In 2008, when Barack Obama was elected, the turnout was 18%.

That’s still kind of depressing to think about. Low voter turnout bums me out.

On a related note, Michael Medved has an article over at Townhall lamenting how the GOP is missing the college graduate demographic:

Gop Will Lose the Future by Dissing College Grads

From the looks of the comments Medved wasted his words.

How come none of the ‘conservative’ columnists at Townhall have mentioned the ‘800 lb. gorilla’ in the room- Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s very specific allegations? Could it be that Townhall is just a ‘conservative flavored’ version of the MSM? It’s kinda starting to look that way….

Notice that in 1996 when Bill Clinton was running unopposed, the turnout was even lower.

If these numbers hold for the national turnout, the GOP is in for a massive fail this November.

It’s why they keep praying to Free Market Jesus that he sees fit to bless them with an economy calamity between now and November to run upon. Because if they have to run on dragging the country back to the Ante Bellum days, then they’re gonna make Mondale’s defeat look good.

Meh…too early to assume that. I’m fine voting Romney—though I’m not really excited by him. That’s the sentiment of most of the right.

The youth turnout stats in Illinois aren’t all that good of a comparison, though. It was Obama’s home state after all, and Clinton also had Illinois roots. Other states may show similar data, and that would be noteworthy. But Illinois comparisons don’t mean anything. If Obama doesn’t carry Illinois by a mile, he’s not able to win.

At this point, I’m assuming that the GOP clown show goes on until June. Last I checked, Santorum is leading here in Texas by a near 3-to-1 margin over Mitt and the primary here isn’t until late May. The longer it drags out, the more people get turned off to Mitt and to the GOP, especially with this bullshit war on women they’re fighting.

They really are praying for an economic collapse, or for a brokered convention, at least in the blogosphere. It’s not good.

That’s not to say that Obama will cruise to re-election. It’s going to be hard fought. But right now the GOP are doing their damndest to piss people off.

Don’t think there’s a group of voters they haven’t made every effort to piss off. That the base is now praying for a brokered convention, in the hopes of having a “do-over” or bringing in some “white knight” to save the party from itself, is a sign of just how fraked things are. Willard may very well be “inevitable,” but he’s certainly not making a good show of being so.

Pure politics opinion here, but I don’t think the war on women meme is doing anything other than firing up Obama’s base. The right has also gotten fired up on the opposite side over the same issue. All things equal, I call that a wash.

For now, it is clear that Gingrich is out—which really wasn’t all that clear until Gingrich failed to win in his next strangest states after Georgia and S.C. Gingrich may not have formally dropped out, but practically he is out. The GOP is now down to two, and already there is a slow rumbling chorus growing that will rally around Romney (Jeb Bush endorsement, Bob Dole calling for Santorum to drop out). Those calls will continue since the math would require Santorum to get 70% of the remaining delegates to win.

Facts have a well-known liberal bias.

When a Wall Street Journal-NBC News survey asked in the summer which party should control Congress, 46 percent of women favored Democrats and 42 percent preferred Republican control.

But in a survey released Monday [3/5/12], compiling data since the beginning of the year, that figure had widened considerably to a 15-point advantage for the Democrats

Chorus or no chorus, I doubt Rick’s gonna drop until the very last vote is counted in the primaries, if not dragging it to the convention. The goal doesn’t seem so much to win the nomination now as to deny it to Romney until the convention, when they can each make their cases before a brokered convention about why they should win the nomination despite losing so badly in the primaries. That’s Newt’s stated goal, very like Paul’s, and Santorum likely is working on the same wavelength.

[Link: www.washingtonpost.com…]

And one datapoint that was pretty curious (though not trended, so we couldn’t draw conclusions about recent events) is that the Dems lost ground while GOP gained ground on the question of supporting issues important to women over hte past couple years:

34. On another subject, which political party would you say cares more about issues that are especially important to women - the (Democrats) or the (Republicans)?

Both Neither No
