Breitbart.com Calls Me a ‘Liberal Non-Entity’ - on Their Front Page

Nice picture, too
Wingnuts • Views: 39,271

I always love it when the first thing I see on Twitter in the morning is a gaggle of wingnuts, all retweeting gleefully that I’ve been “beclowned.” Apparently breitbart.com “editor” Larry O’Connor has a devastating reply to my post pointing out that they’ve broken every single existing link to their “Big” sites, on every search engine and website in the world. Here’s one of the wingnut tweets:

This is where it starts to get hilarious again — because the link they’re all gloating about leads to … this:

Yes, really. A broken link! And not only that — you can see from the URL of the broken link that Larry O’Connor actually misspelled the word “falsely” and the word “failure” in his own headline:

critics-falesly-proclaim-breitbart-redesign-failiure

Amazingly, one of the geniuses over there apparently noticed these obvious misspellings, and deleted the post — again, without redirecting to anything. It’s hard to express the sheer quantity of fail in this kind of fumbling.

But wait, it gets better — the mysterious vanishing article has reappeared! Now on the breitbart.com front page: Liberal Non-Entity Falsely Proclaims Breitbart.com Redesign ‘Failure’.

Because isn’t that what every media site does — post articles ranting about “non-entities?”

What was the problem? Did Johnson not like our new color-scheme? Does he have an issue with the new comment section being too hard for his trolls to infiltrate? It turns out, not surprisingly, Johnson and his once readable website were claiming that Andrew’s hand-picked team had ruined his site by re-directing traffic to our main URL and thus killing all of our traffic.

As evidence of our failed strategy he provided his 17 readers with a graph to show how our traffic had tanked. According to the expert on Internet traffic (HA! more on that in a moment) Johnson proclaimed: “Alexa’s statistics are not the most accurate, but their graph of biggovernment.com’s traffic shows what happens when you totally screw up all incoming links to old articles.”

Now, let’s think this through for a minute… our traffic is in the toilet because we have re-directed all traffic from the “Bigs” to our main URL as evidenced by a graph showing little or no traffic going to biggovernment.com. But, if we have re-directed that traffic, doesn’t it mean it went somewhere else?

Apparently, O’Connor believes I’m a non-entity with an invisible army of infiltrating trolls, planting ugly racist comments on every post at his sites.

But consider his excuse for just a moment. Larry O’Connor isn’t even trying to deny that they’ve broken ALL existing links on every website in the world — in fact, he’s admitting they did this deliberately!

It’s simply not possible to fail any more than this in web design. One of the first things any web developer learns is that if you change URLs you set up 301 redirects, so that search engines and existing backlinks will not break. This isn’t rocket surgery — it’s Web Design 101, and it’s extremely trivial to do.

But at breitbart.com, they see those millions of broken links as a good thing.

For just one small example out of a huge number, see for yourself what happens when you search Google for articles at “Big Government” containing the word “Obama:” Google returns 91,900 results — and every single link leads to the front page of breitbart.com.

O’Connor continues by claiming that their traffic is just soaring. But according to Quantcast’s “directly measured” statistics (which means the Quantcast code is in their pages, in order to get the best measurement possible), their traffic has completely flatlined since the redesign:

That’s a graph that would strike fear into the heart of any decent web designer. But the geniuses at breitbart.com say it’s good. They meant to do this.

I try not to use this acronym, but … LOL.

It can't really have just flatlined, can it? Maybe they just totally fucked up putting the Quantcast code into their webpages?

I really don't get what their brilliant master-plan is for breaking all their old links, though. Are they saying they're purposefully trying to redirect people to their new front page?

Not only that, but the graph he showed to "prove" Charles wrong was breitbart.com, not biggovernment.com. And the commenters are confirming that everything is broken and that they don't like the new site.

Well, they shut down biggovernment.com, so that's fair. It's just that they're using Alexa's predictive stuff, which is very inaccurate. There was no explanation of their Quantcast stuff, which leads me to believe they've just fucked up that embedded code somehow or something.

But yeah, the first post there basically says the new site sucks.

So this is where Jesus gets his energy...

Jesus Power: Woman Spots Jesus Image on Power Meter

Jesus lives! In the power meter of w woman from Clermont, Florida, just northwest of Orlando. WKMG Local 6 News reports the woman, whose name was not released, said she noticed the image of God;s son on the metal and glass box close to her mobile home.

She said, "I have heard that he does appear in many places at many times. Maybe it's a sign of his soon-coming."

She called the discovery a blessing, with Easter Sunday right around the corner. (April 8)

The woman saw the image while she was praying on her porch at the Torchlite RV Park off U.S. Highway 27. "I came out on the patio and I was praying and I just looked over back towards the woods and I seen this here," she said. "And it was like a comfort to me."

While the idea of God's offspring appearing in a non-working power box may seem comforting to us sinners looking for a jolt to heaven, the fact is Jesus wasn't the first person we thought of when we saw the image. George Clooney with a beard? Wayne Newton, maybe?

The man on the power meter looks like he has a handle bar mustache. Did Jesus have one of those?

Nonetheless, handle bar mustache Christ drew in a frenzy of neighbors who took photos with their cell phones.

Heh.

I love the new design. It is much easier to peruse. Before the new design I spent a good portion of my time on Drudge (and still do), but now I spend equal amounts - sometimes more - here. Thanks Brietbart, keep up the good work and I look forward to the tweaking.

29 Charles Johnson  Thu, Mar 22, 2012 10:33:37am

Even if there's some kind of explanation for that flatline graph, the fact is that you just DON'T casually break all of your existing backlinks if you have even the slightest clue about web development. Whether the traffic is really flatlining or not, this is an epic Internet fail. I've never seen this level of incompetence at a well-known website before.

More See “Too Much” Religious Talk by Politicians - Santorum Voters Disagree

Why of course they do.

Nearly four-in-ten Americans (38%) now say there has been too much expression of religious faith and prayer from political leaders, while 30% say there has been too little. The percentage saying there is too much expression of religious faith by politicians has increased across party lines, but this view remains far more widespread among Democrats than Republicans.

Slightly more than half of the public (54%) says that churches should keep out of politics, compared with 40% who say religious institutions should express their views on social and political matters.

Boehner Backs Out Of Debt-Limit Deal

House Speaker John Boehner lent his full support Thursday to undoing a key part of the debt-limit deal he struck with President Obama and the rest of the congressional leadership last summer.

Republicans in the House, Boehner confirmed, will advance legislation to replace automatic cuts to the defense budget from taking effect on Jan. 1. Those cuts are part of an enforcement mechanism he and a majority of his members agreed to accept, but that would only be triggered if Congress was unable to pass a significant deficit-reduction bill. They included the defense cuts, intended to force GOP cooperation and domestic-spending cuts, intended to force Democratic cooperation.

The GOP’s unwillingness to accept higher tax revenue doomed that effort, and so the automatic cuts — known technically as “sequestration” — are locked in. Now Boehner and the GOP are accelerating efforts to undo the one part of the deal that they don’t like.

What climate change?

U.S. Intelligence Says Water Shortages Threaten Stability

Competition for increasingly scarce water in the next decade will fuel instability in regions such as South Asia and the Middle East that are important to U.S. national security, according to a U.S. intelligence report.

An all-out water war is unlikely in the next 10 years, as nations will be more likely to use water as a bargaining chip with each other, according to the report from the Director of National Intelligence released today.

As shortages become more acute, “water in shared basins will increasingly be used as leverage; the use of water as a weapon or to further terrorist objectives also will become more likely beyond 10 years,” according to the study. The report was requested by the State Department and drawn from a classified national intelligence estimate.

The report, drafted principally by the Defense Intelligence Agency, reflects a growing emphasis in the U.S. intelligence community on how environmental issues such as water shortages, natural disasters and climate change may affect U.S. security interests. It assumes no major changes in water-management practices.

30% and 40% for theocracy (whether they understand the word or not), is far too much for comfort. These people used to be marginalized when we had rational party leadership, now they are emboldened and encourage by presidential candidates. This is going to be the future of American politics for a long time and I find it depressing.

Ah. This is nice. Mitt Romney from 2002.

Highlights:

On Gay Rights

All citizens deserve equal rights, regardless of their sexual orientation. While he does not support gay marriage, Mitt Romney believes domestic partnership status should be recognized in a way that includes the potential for health benefits and rights of survivorship.
On Abortion Rights

As Governor, Mitt Romney would protect the current pro-choice status quo in Massachusetts. No law would change. The choice to have an abortion is a deeply personal one. Women should be free to choose based on their own beliefs, not the government’s.

On Minimum Wage

The minimum wage is important to our economy and Mitt Romney supports minimum wage increases, at least in line with inflation.

On Gun Control

Mitt Romney supports the strict enforcement of gun laws. He is a supporter of the federal assault weapons ban. Mitt also believes in the rights of those who hunt to responsibly own and use firearms.

Maybe, but Manning doesn't "Prayer Pose" whenever the cameras are on him, nor does he end every sentence with "... my lord and savior, Jesus Christ", so naturally Old Pat has to wish pain on him.

Blood Boiling..
You know years ago I read the book the Mannings wrote about the family..Great read..A pretty much normal family of values, love, Faith, Strength and Athletics. And even during the Trials of Cooper and the thousands of prayers at night and the stress on the family the Manning's do not wear their religion on their shoulders.. It is deep waters.
And deeds? Peyton built an entire Children's Hospital in Indy with his own money..Maybe because of those prayers for Cooper.. But he will never tell..

Each day Senator Santorum continues to march up this steep hill of improbability is a day we lose to unite in our effort as Republicans to defeat President Obama. So as Senator Santorum continues to drag out this already expensive, negative campaign it is clear that he is becoming the most valuable player on President Obama’s team.

Cameron: Secular Humanists are Imposing Their Faith on Everybody

You know what's interesting is that faith is always involved in politics, it's just not always a Christian faith. If you think about it, even those who are secular humanists, they are importing their secular humanist faith and religion and morality and imposing it on everybody else through the laws that they make. So the idea of faith in government is inescapable; it's always going to be somebody's faith, even if it's faith in atheism.

Even the most ardent atheist has faith that there is no God - and that's a blind faith; you have to ignore all of the evidence - but he nevertheless holds his position by faith and that faith informs his decisions. So don't let anyone ever tell you that faith doesn't belong in politics because you can't get away from it even if your faith is atheism.

It's just a question of which is the best faith to have. Do you put your faith in the idea that we all evolved from slime? Or do you put your faith in the revelation that we were created by God in his image and he loves us and has given us a life manual called the Bible?

Yeah, why pay attention to things like fact and reason when you can simply read 2000 year old folktales?

Trayvon Martin case: Anthony Raimondo, first officer in charge of scene, involved in previous cover-up

Sergeant Anthony Raimondo, the patrol officer who was initially in charge of the scene on the night Trayvon Martin was killed, was also involved in an alleged police cover-up in 2010. Raimondo was at the center of a controversy that ensued when Justin Collison, the son of a Sanford police lieutenant and part of a prominent family, punched a homeless black man but was not arrested.

Local news station WFTV broke this story, which revealed that preferential treatment had been given to Collison by police after he attacked and broke the nose of his African-American victim, Sherman Ware.

No, it's not an indication either way. The law, as it exists, protects the right of someone to use lethal force if they 'reasonably' believe they have to to defend themselves against an attacker anywhere that they have the right to be.

The fact that Zimmerman pursued Trayvon is immaterial to the law, unless you're contending it was illegal for him to do so under some other law or it took him somewhere he had no right to be.

The law is about what the person is allowed to do when attacked.

Are you contending Zimmerman had no right to be where he was when he shot Trayvon?

Just another indication the stand your ground law was abused, not applied.

In mutliple threads I've posted about other stand-your-ground cases. Go read some of them and try and discern when it's "applied" versus "abused."

The two concepts aren't dichotomous if it's a shittily-written law that fails to clarify important terms.

Futhermore, the police's actions in this case are a seperate and equally worrying problem. Even with procedure followed correctly, Zimmerman could argue "Stand Your Ground applied," as his following (on foot and car) may not be deemed by a grand jury to impact the act of shooting Martin after/during a scuffle. There's already precedents of people getting away with fatal shootings with less justification.

I won't argue that such things don't exist in our world, because it's plain for all to see that they do. I just don't think that's the case with this story. Maybe a victim with a skin color that is less pleasing to the police force? Or maybe rank incompetency?

"Reabsorbed into the body of the GOP" is perhaps more accurate than dead. The entities funding Tea Party candidates and circulating materials are certainly still churning out stuff. Also consider that Tea Party rhetorical flourishes-- paranoia, conspiracy theories, open insults--are now incorporated into basically everything the GOP puts out.

OT: I'm googling furiously.. In the next few hours I have to come up with a place to go with my new GF this weekend..There just isn't a lot of places to go.. Everybody goes to Brickyard in OKC..I want to do something different with her..Since there are a million Casino's here I guess we'll drive for hours to one with a great band..( Riverwind is 5 minutes away..How exotic is that? )
I need to make reservation within hours..We meet for dinner tonight for a chili tasting contest..F*ck! It's what they do in Oklahoma on a Thursday night.. Chili Tasting..I would never do this unless I was in Love.. Chili..Really?

I googled OKC, as you probably did, and thought Rococo Restaurant looked good with live music on Sat night. Good luck.

Aide causes stir with resignation over women's health

AUSTIN — It's not often that the resignation of a part-time legislative staffer makes a splash, but it's not often that an aide writes a letter like Allison Catalano did.

Catalano, 26, went to work for state Rep. Myra Crownover, R-Denton, in August after graduating from the University of North Texas. She started as an unpaid intern and became a paid staffer.

It was a promising start to what she calls her “first ‘big girl' job after graduation.”

Then she saw something she couldn't stomach — GOP-led cuts and restrictions in family planning programs “announced as a victory.” That's where her letter came in.

re: #172 Obdicut

No, it's not an indication either way. The law, as it exists, protects the right of someone to use lethal force if they 'reasonably' believe they have to to defend themselves against an attacker anywhere that they have the right to be.

The fact that Zimmerman pursued Trayvon is immaterial to the law, unless you're contending it was illegal for him to do so under some other law or it took him somewhere he had no right to be.

The law is about what the person is allowed to do when attacked.

Are you contending Zimmerman had no right to be where he was when he shot Trayvon?

"Are you contending Zimmerman had no right to be where he was when he shot"

No. He had no right to pursue and initiate the confrontation. Am I clear now?

You know from the recent posts between us what I think, and it is not what you wrote in that last line. I'm puzzled that you would even write that given what you read from me yesterday. You have your read and I have mine.

My contention as i thought I had made clear is he followed/pursued/stalked the kid. All of which is beyond the scope as I read it, and as the sponsor says he intended. BTW since we last chatted about this I sent some emails out to some contacts I have in the legal community. So far I got one response and the feeling was either interpretation could prevail in a prosecutors office.

Under what law? Not the law in question, right?

I'm sorry, but your read isn't of the law. Your read is of some law that says something about a requirement to be standing, and this law has so much requirement.

My contention as i thought I had made clear is he followed/pursued/stalked the kid. All of which is beyond the scope as I read it, and as the sponsor says he intended.

But the law doesn't consider those eventualities. It's not there at all. The law simply says if you're in a place where you have a right to be and are not committing a crime. It doesn't say you have to be not pursuing someone.

Your read of it would mean that someone couldn't claim self-defense if they ran after a purse-snatcher who then turned and attacked them. Is that your contention?

Yes, I'm referring to the law at hand. It's interesting to me that you deny something being in it that I can see, and the sponsor can see. The law does not cover any unimagined eventuality. So what. We have prosecutors and courts for that.

What makes your read any better than mine? Do you have some legal training in this field? I do not so I'm after that advice. Your purse snatch scenario is very different than the case at hand. Unless the kid stole something anyway. But to indulge your question, with the previous caveat-Again as I thought I made clear the law does not cover you going to the threat to your life. I see nothing in it's text about defending property. My thought is that would not be covered.

You may be able to see it, but you can't cite it. And if the claim is that the law is badly written, the sponsor is hardly a credible witness in its defense. I don't know why you think he is, especially since the law is based off of a model law composed by ALEC.

What makes your read any better than mine? Do you have some legal training in this field?

I'm citing the actual words.

Again:

(3) A person who is not engaged in an unlawful activity and who is attacked in any other place where he or she has a right to be has no duty to retreat and has the right to stand his or her ground and meet force with force, including deadly force if he or she reasonably believes it is necessary to do so to prevent death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another or to prevent the commission of a forcible felony.

There is no requirement to 'stand'. As long as Zimmerman had a right to be where he was when he claimed he was attacked, and he was not engaged in anything unlawful at the time, then this law defends him if he had a reasonable belief that he was going to suffer great bodily harm or Trayvon was going to commit a violent felony.

The only point you have that is relevant is that he may not have reasonably believed it was necessary, but that is so vague as to be basically useless.

This same law has led to decisions in the past that highlight its flaws. This is just the latest.
