Breitbart Coroner’s Report: Heart Failure

Caused by hardening of the opinions
US News • Views: 33,488

The Los Angeles County coroner’s office announced today that Andrew Breitbart died of heart failure caused by hardening of the arteries.

The office ruled that the cause of Breitbart’s death was heart failure and hypertropic cardiomyopathy with focal coronary atherosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries.

Coroner’s officials deemed the death “natural,” and toxicology tests detected no illicit drugs in Breitbart’s system. His blood-alcohol level was 0.04%.

Jesus, the man was five years older than I am.

Was he being treated for the atherosclerosis?

Waiting for a Friday afternoon to release the results?

I question the timing.

Be careful haters. He left kids.

Using Ockham's razor, we can deduce that Obama controls the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.

Well, did anyone expect any different finding to be released?

If an entire nation can be fooled and intimidated, a coroner in LA ain't no problem.

We will never really be sure.

RIP Andrew.

Had to downding. I don't think attributing the death of someone not a violent malefactor to "hardening of opinions" is funny or in good taste. But that's my opinion, I could be wrong.

11 Dark_Falcon  Fri, Apr 20, 2012 6:10:45pm

I just saw this, and its very cool news:

Bald Eagles Nest in Cook County Forest Preserves:

If you were a kid growing up in the Chicago area over the last several decades, chances are you can’t remember ever seeing a bald eagle. That’s because forty years ago, eagles were exceedingly rare in the Midwest, put on the ecological ropes by the pesticide DDT, habitat destruction, and poaching. But after the chemical’s ban in the 1970s, along with increased habitat protections, bald eagle populations began to increase. Over the last decade, eagle flyovers have become increasingly common. Kids today have the best chance in a generation to see our national symbol where we live—and it may be getting even more common in the years to come, thanks to recent developments.

The Forest Preserve District of Cook County just revealed for the first time that a pair of American bald eagles are nesting on forest preserve property in Palos Township, in the southwest suburbs of Chicago. From a tall tree that juts above the woodland canopy with a commanding view of the slough below, the eagles hunt on surrounding waterways, carrying food back to the hatchlings. While Forest Preserve District wildlife biologists haven’t yet verified the number of young in the nest, in early April the parents suddenly began to show intense interest in the nest contents, suggesting the presence of eggs or hatchlings. Last week, the fuzzy heads of hatchlings appeared to surface above the nest rim.

There's a couple comments there from folks who saw him in the last year, who state that he didn't look healthy even then. So, I guess there is some small slivers of sanity left in the world.

On the other hand, when he was alive, Andrew Breitbart didn't hesitate to smear me using any means at hand, and often incited his thousands of followers to do the same.

"Hardening of the opinions" is the mildest possible criticism I could offer of Andrew Breitbart, who had an incredibly negative influence on the right wing Internet (which didn't need any more negative influences).

Hitchens last words

And then his last words. As he lay dying, he asked for a pen and paper and tried to write on it. After a while, he finished, held it up, looked at it and saw that it was an illegible assemblage of scribbled, meaningless hieroglyphics. "What's the use?" he said to Steve Wasserman. Then he dozed a little, and then roused himself and uttered a couple of words that were close to inaudible. Steve asked him to repeat them. There were two:

"Capitalism."

"Downfall."

37 jaunte  Fri, Apr 20, 2012 6:45:21pm

It's not unusual.

Hardening of the arteries is a progressive condition that may begin in childhood. Fatty streaks can develop in the aorta (the largest blood vessel supplying blood to both the upper and lower part of the body) shortly after birth. In those people with familial history of high cholesterol, the condition may worsen rapidly in the early 20s and progressively become more severe in the 40s and 50s.

In the United States, approximately 1.5 million heart attacks occur annually, and more than 11 million Americans have been diagnosed as having coronary artery disease. According to the American Heart Association 2004 Heart and Stroke Statistical Update, arteriosclerosis accounts for nearly 75% of all deaths from heart disease.

Heart conditions can be genetic, and his children should be aware of this fact.

Wouldn't have surprised me, no. I wonder if that last really weird meltdown--'stop raping people', that one--was because the hardening arteries were affecting his blood flow and screwing him up. In a more peaceable man, it might have been noticed as symptomatic behavior. In him, everyone thought he was just drunk, or wasted.

Earlier today I linked to the story about the NC teacher giving a creationism extra credit task:
[Link: littlegreenfootballs.com...]

The story is getting some coverage around the net. Courtesy of a blog dedicated to the Wake County, NC, school district, we have a link to a PDF of the extra credit assignment:
[Link: www.newsobserver.com...]

What strikes me about the assignment isn't that it is inherently wrong to have students learn about what is essentially incorrect views - learning from others' mistakes is valuable, and discussing controversy is educational - but rather the insight in the last paragraph:

Note: Students should be careful where they find their information on internet. Make sure to use reputable websites and sources, especially on the creation topic. Some good sites to visit are Answers In Genesis, Creation Research Society, and the Institute of Creation Research.

Anyone who thinks AiG, CRS, or the ICR are "reputable" clearly has an agenda. There are creationists with websites who are much more honest and transparent, and include a much more coherent understanding of evolution (e.g., Todd Wood), but instead of recommending them (or any of the myriad of standard science sites that analyze creationists' claims) the teacher recommends the con-men of ICR and AiG.

Thankfully I just read that the little boy I've been praying for all day is safely out of surgery for a shunt to relieve hydrocephalic pressure. He'd been misdiagnosed since birth as having autism but kept having seizures. That was in Alabama. Up in Washington state, they actually did a CT. Gulf seafood deformities alarm scientists

....Tracy Kuhns and her husband Mike Roberts, commercial fishers from Barataria, Louisiana, are finding eyeless shrimp.

"At the height of the last white shrimp season, in September, one of our friends caught 400 pounds of these," Kuhns told Al Jazeera while showing a sample of the eyeless shrimp.

According to Kuhns, at least 50 per cent of the shrimp caught in that period in Barataria Bay, a popular shrimping area that was heavily impacted by BP's oil and dispersants, were eyeless. Kuhns added: "Disturbingly, not only do the shrimp lack eyes, they even lack eye sockets."

Evolution! Oh... wait...

I don't doubt there's a genetic part to dying that young from heart failure. A friend of mine from high school just got diagnosed with pulmonary valve stenosis after her grandmother died of heart disease. She had no clue that there was even anything wrong with her heart. She ended up having to undergo a balloon valvuloplasty a few months back.

Still, you're right. Diet and lifestyle, including stress management, can make all the difference.

My grandfather died of a heart condition when he was 47. My mother and her siblings, of course, reported this to their doctors and two of them have lived into their 60's with medical intervention.

Heart conditions can be genetic, and his children should be aware of this fact.

I have just outlived my father, who died of a hear attack just before his 53rd birthday.

He had some other complicating issues: a previous car accident had smashed his legs and left him with a lot of scar tissue. Also made it hard for him to get out and get excercise, and his diet was that of your typical American working-class male of the late 60's. bacon and eggs for breakfast, burgers for lunch, pot roast for dinner, etc...

Your morning derp:

Secularism in America: Growing American movement raises concerns

WASHINGTON (CNS) -- Arianne Gasser of Canton, Ohio, is proud to call herself a graduate student at a prestigious Catholic university, and she also is proud to call herself an atheist.

The pride she has in her atheist status is part of what inspired her to travel from the Philadelphia area, where she is enrolled at Villanova University, to Washington in March to join thousands of other atheists, agnostics and other nonbelievers for the "Reason Rally," an event that was billed as an assembly to unify secular people nationwide.

[...]

Pecknold, who also is the author of the 2010 book "Christianity and Politics: A Brief Guide to the History," said secularism is a greater threat to humanity than to the Catholic Church because it could lead to great social unrest and fragmentation.

Vilification of Muslims in the United States following the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania can be viewed as an example of secularists' intolerance.

Wow. Did he manage to say that with a straight face?

They're all "well trained." I'm sure we could find most of the propagandists at Fox News saying the same thing. Which is not to say there isn't an atheist element in the butthurt anti-Jihad movement such as Pat Condell, Geert Wilders (who was an alleged atheist). But the obvious conclusion is that since this is a Judeo-Christian nation most of the attacks would come from Christians. They've been "at war" with Muslims for thousands of years. Most of us atheists are rather neutral about these things when you come down to it. Or at least prone towards a more rational way of thinking as opposed to letting some sky-monster do the thinking for us.

Remembering Hitchens -- by David Frum

Before and after the service, the loudspeakers played The Internationale, the old anthem of the socialist movement. (The lyrics were mercifully sung in the original French, so as to spare us all the incongruity of hearing the words, "Arise ye workers from your slumbers; Arise ye prisoners of want" boomed out a ceremony sponsored by Vanity Fair magazine, names checked at the door by attractive young people in all-black clothes.)

Just started reading this.

Right. The reports I read do indicate that a Palestinian was arrested for an illegal home sale. The PA mayor of Hebron, Khaled Osaily, indicates that it was an illegal sale. The IDF ordered the eviction. The eviction took place under the watch of Israeli police. See Hebron mayor: Home sale was certainly fraudulent. All we have after this is a letter signed by Noam Arnon and David Wilder. That letter itself is the only existing "report" that I could see mentioning anything about a death sentence.

The CEO letter is hilarious and sadly true

Dear Fellow American,

Welcome to your Bank of America.

Today, it's time to acknowledge that our Bank isn't working anymore—not just for the market, but for people, our real customers. We've paid $8.58 billion in relief to borrowers and $3.24 billion in fines. We face lawsuits and claims from citizens, companies, and state and local governments. There is even a petition with the Federal Reserve to break up our bank, adding yet more uncertainty to our position. Finally, we've found ourselves front-and-center in the national foreclosure crisis, and deep in unpopular investments like coal, at a time when climate change is a growing societal concern.

As a result, our company’s shares have fallen precipitously, and now trade at one-fifth their 2008 price. Our Bank may, in fact, soon need help keeping afloat—and much as in 2008, you, the American taxpayer, will be asked to provide that assistance.

The institutions you rescued in 2008 have continued much as they always were, engaging in the same practices that brought our economy so close to collapse. To make sure that this time around, things turn out differently, we at Bank of America are launching a forum in which you, the American taxpayer, can prepare for the time that you own us. By sharing ideas, and reading and rating the ideas of others, you can begin charting a course for this Bank—your course.

And when the day comes that you, the American taxpayer, own this Bank, you will be ready to make it a Bank for America—one that brings benefits not to the privileged only, but to all of our customers, and to all of our stakeholders too.

Welcome to your Bank of America.

If we post hateful comments about Breitbart we're just as bad as all the right wing news sites and bloggers who take any chance to spew their racist and hate speech.

Guess that's why there is virtually NO hateful speech here in this LGF thread. It's because left and progressive people are BETTER than right wing and Tea Party people. The constant "it's just as bad on the left as on the right" drone from media (left and right) is one of the biggest lies that is spoken in the past 10 years.

Of course, it's a catch 22 since it's also the reason why liberals and progressives are losing elections even in the face of the reality of right-wing policies. They can neither incite nor follow reflexively the hate speech which right wing and conservatives find easy to say and believe.

It makes me very disenchanted and I find little reason for any improvement in the future. Perhaps Obama will get elected but this will be of little value as more places become even more Republicanized.

There are massage parlors on every block, a million bars, street vendors of every sort and the prostitutes will accost you trying to drum up business but there are no laundrymats anywhere. Evacuating the Ulpana neighborhood in the West Bank settlement of Beit El could lead to the dissolution of the coalition, Vice Prime Minister Moshe Ya'alon said Saturday at a meeting in Be’er Sheva.

"We have said that we must not remove the neighborhood," said Ya'alon, who is also Israel's strategic affairs minister. "This is a neighborhood of 15 buildings with six apartments in each building, of completely normative people, and all of a sudden they are being told off because a Palestinian claimed the land belongs to him."

[...]

The High Court ruled that the state must evacuate the neighborhood by May 1, but on Wednesday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asked the State Prosecutor’s Office to examine whether a request can be lodged with the High Court to further delay the evacuation order.

Of course, Yaalon is the same guy who will be speaking to the awakening yahoos.

OK, let's have some fun looking at their 1990 form 990.

In 2009 the company spent a total of 283,670. Of that amount, 149,750 was spent on Research and Communications. (Part IX)

Schedule L is the interested persons transactions report. In it we discover that Tom Trento owns the corporation to which all $149.750 of research and communications was paid.

Interestingly, Tom is the president of RSA (my abbreviation), and claims he puts in 40 hours per week for the non-profit for which he receives no compensation.

Flashback botnet not shrinking, huge numbers of Macs still infected

Contrary to reports by several security companies, the Flashback botnet is not shrinking, the Russian antivirus firm that first reported the massive infection three weeks ago claimed today.

Dr. Web, which earlier this month was the first to report the largest-ever successful malware attack against Apple's OS X, said Friday that the pool of Flashback-infected Macs still hovers around the 650,000 mark, and that infections are continuing.

Also on Friday, Liam O Murchu, manager of operations at Symantec's security response center, confirmed that Dr. Web's numbers were correct.

Both Dr. Web's tally and its contention that infections are ongoing flew in the face of other antivirus companies' assertions. Kaspersky Lab and Symantec, which have each "sinkholed" select domains -- hijacked them before the hackers could use them to issue orders to compromised machines -- used those domains to count the Macs that try to communicate with the malware's command-and-control centers.

Earlier this week, Symantec said the Flashback botnet had shrunk by 60% and was down to 142,000 machines. Yesterday, Kaspersky claimed that its count registered only 30,000 infected Macs.

Not even close, said Dr. Web in a Friday blog post.

"The number is still around 650,000," said Dr. Web.

Now that its been proven you can successfully compromise Macs, expect a lot more hackers to make the attempt. Welcome to the party.

The abuse of the 501(c)(3) tax exempt status is so widespread and rampant that its hard to imagine how to even fix it. You would think that the IRS would move in for the kill, but then the IRS is run by bureaucrats who ultimately have to answer to politicians. And politicians from both sides have supporters that claim the exemption so there will be no big push to end the abuse. Actually, I do know how to fix it. Restore the IRS agent strength and untie their investigative hands.

Let's take the specific example I found. There are several triggers that should have brought an audit of both the 501(c)(3) organization AND the company that was paid for the work. Two obvious triggers: more than 10% of expenditure went to an "interested party" and both the non-profit and the payee have the same working address.

The rules are actually pretty good (though complex). There are some I actually think need a bit of loosening, but not while the necessary ones unenforced.

Now that its been proven you can successfully compromise Macs, expect a lot more hackers to make the attempt. Welcome to the party.

It has always been just as possible to compromise Apple's O.S. as it has been to compromise Microsoft's O.S.. That isn't the point, the only reason hackers have (mainly) stuck to attacking the Microsoft product is because Microsoft has always controlled about 95% or more of the desktop computing market.

Estimates for 2011 claim that Apple has finally claimed more than 5% of the total desktop market with one estimate going as high as 10.7% (although most IT researchers discount that estimate as wildly inaccurate).

Hackers have not bothered hacking Apple's O.S. simply because so few people used it and there was really no possible payday or glory for them in doing so.

Now that Apple's machines have increased their market share in desktops and even partially taken over specialized niches like video processing/editing expect to see many more hackers paying attention to Apple's O.S. as an easy target. Another reason for the sudden attention from hackers is the large share of mobile computing that Apple now owns due to the Iphone and Ipad markets.

Yes, Apple is finally joining the party, but not because of some new vulnerability in their software, it is just that they have grown enough to attract the interest and avarice of the hackers. Let us hope they are ready for the increased attention...

re: #360 Tiny Alien Kitties are Watching You

Apple's Flashback Trojan tool fixes nothing

For years, I've heard pundits of every kind claim that cybercriminals largely attack Windows over Macs because of the large number of users. One day, should Apple PC market share increase, they argued, Macs would become targets. That thinking is a load of horse poop.

The problem started first by design. Microsoft developed Windows before the popular, public Internet and designed early networking and other features for the corporate network. The simple concept: Make sharing as easy as possible. Years ago, I referred to Windows and supporting productivity apps like Office as Mr. Gates' Neighborhood, playing off the public television kids program Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood. It was a safe place, where people had no locks on their doors or windows and even connected their homes (think of that as Microsoft cross-integrating features). But then the big city -- the Internet -- grew up around the safe neighborhood. Suddenly, those lockless doors and windows and interconnected homes were a liability. Anywhere criminals could get in, they freely moved everywhere.

A decade ago, Microsoft cofounder Bill Gates made security the company's number one priority. Microsoft changed the way it develops software, took an aggressive and proactive approach to security fixes and put in locks, so to speak. But securing the Windows ecosystem was a slow process -- and still is. End users didn't change their behavior right away.
...

As the market slowly moves off XP, Windows botnets are threatened. How much depends on many factors, such as user behavior and development of new attack vectors. Cybercriminals need to look somewhere else, and OS X is easy pickings (same can be said of Android and iOS) since most users don't install anti-malware and a false sense of security leads many to take unnecessary risks.

The Flashback botnet is a huge concern. If not reduced or eliminated quickly, it will spread more Mac malware and lead other cybercriminals to increase their attacks against the OS X platform. If you look at the rise of cyber attacks against Windows there is more correlation to botnets' reach than number of Wintel PC users (that's hard data I'll put together some other time -- it is Saturday!).

This is the turning point, if Flashback is unchecked. Not because Mac market share has increased or OS X is any more vulnerable to exploitation than Windows 7. It's the successful creation of a viable Mac botnet and promise of others.

My grandfather (raised on a farm in Kansas, born in the late twenties, you do the math!) was once being quizzed by a doctor about his breakfast habits. "How many eggs?" "Half a dozen," said my grandfather.

"OK, six eggs a week isn't that bad."
