Ann Romney: ‘Why Should Women Be Paid Equal to Men?’ - Update: It’s a Parody

Politics • Views: 31,526

Correction: the original article turned out to be a parody, even though there’s nothing about the article that hints at it. I’ve deleted my post to avoid spreading misinformation. Sorry for the false alarm; Ann Romney did not say this.

I mean really, all this wanting to be equal nonsense is going to be detrimental to the future of women everywhere.

lolwut?

Now, see, this is exactly why Mittens turns to Ann when he needs to get a feel for "wonen's issues".

Brilliant!

Phew. It seemed massively over the top.

Pretty sure Freewood Post isn't a real news site--their banner says "News That's Almost Reliable", and the front page post is about Santorum holding a funeral for unsuccessful sperm.

Not that Santorum wouldn't do that.

OK. BBL

I updated the post. It's frustrating to see parody sites that don't make it clear that the news they're reporting is fake. There's nothing in this article that seems at all like a parody. Sorry for the false alarm.

Latest Story...
Santorum Holds Funeral for Unsuccessful Sperm

When asked about their decision to hold a funeral, Santorum stated that it would help their children cope with the “deaths”.

It is so difficult these days to discern between reality and parody when it comes to the RWNJ. They are damn near interchangeable.

re: #11 allegro

Oooh, that gives me an idea for a page. Maybe later.

13 Charles Johnson  Sun, Apr 22, 2012 10:29:52am

I'm going to delete this article, to avoid spreading this false story any further.

I have lost the ability to distinguish between satire and reality when it comes to American politics...

Free Wood Post is a news and political satire web publication, which may or may not use real names, often in semi-real or mostly fictitious ways. All news articles contained within FreeWoodPost.com are fiction, and presumably fake news.

Any resemblance to the truth is purely coincidental, except for all references to politicians and/or celebrities, in which case they are based on real people, but still based almost entirely in fiction.

FreeWoodPost.com is intended for a mature, sophisticated, and discerning audience

To make it clearer that you withdrew it probably better to make the text into the "strikethrough" mode.

They try to cover themselves with a blanket "this whole site is fictitious and satire" satire statement link in the header, but it's still pretty much a scam to get hits from politics since the RSS feeds etc do not carry the disclaimer.

23 Obdicut  Sun, Apr 22, 2012 10:35:31am

This is my favorite parody site story ever:

The formatting of rawstory always fucks up in Chrome.

24 thecommodore  Sun, Apr 22, 2012 10:36:04am

What makes parody and satire work, though, are elements of truth. Though a joke, this article does echo what some on the right actually believe, methinks.

They've also gotten their stuff circulated as straight news stories from time to time. The "gay agenda" one, most commonly.

Agree with Sergey, better to strikethrough, and maybe move the 'this is a parody' note to the top. That will make the record clear on what happened.

It's good that you got the correction up quick, and that you aren't just "disappearing" the post as most RW hacks would do.

Or, insisting that it's still a valid story, because it COULD be true.

I've seen 'em do that.

re: #25 SanFranciscoZionist

The strikethrough tag has no semantic meaning, though, and search engines will still grab the text with no indication that it's been "canceled." It's far better to remove it, otherwise it ends up being perpetuated.

Probably better to remove the content of the post, but leave the thread up...

re: #29 Charles Johnson

Heh. I just had that crop up in a bunch of recording scripts; the producer thought striking out unwanted lines would remove them, but the audio interpreter doesn't care about strikeout.

See Shlafly, Phyllis et al. It's dead on.

They recently had Schlafly as a guest speaker at the Citadel. She told the students that they should avoid dating feminists, and be careful, because they don't all look like Bella Abzug.

I'm sure the young military men in the audience were suitably impressed by the lady who is older than their grandma, who they've never heard of, telling them not to date feminists, and that they don't all look like some other woman they've never heard of.

Or at least, I am sure that they applauded nicely when she was done.

Who chooses the guest speakers for the Citadel, anyway?

33 Mostly sane, most of the time.  Sun, Apr 22, 2012 10:44:40am

No, Charles you aren't supposed to admit a mistake.

Find someone else to blame it on.

It was planted.

It was part of a conspiracy.

It's not nearly as bad as what parody sites say about Michelle.

Look! Something shiny.

Thanks for being honest and forthcoming.

Smart enough to get into the Citadel, but not smart enough to assess the character of a girlfriend? Sheesh.

When I was there the only admission requirements I noticed were that you had to be male and have money. And you had to be willing to put up with the military training.

Of course, Phyllis Schlafly leaves her son as her only enduring legacy. Money or not, he may not be Citadel material.
