When Wingnut Bloggers Attack

The leading lights of the right wing blogosphere rave at me like lunatics on Twitter
Wingnuts • Views: 28,470

Here’s the background on this amazingly lengthy series of diatribes spewed at me on Twitter in the past day or two: In Which CNN Contributor Dana Loesch Falsely Accuses Me of Using a Racial Slur.

After I posted that article, Loesch went nuts — tweeting insults at me over and over like a deranged parrot. It was impressive.

Yeah! Now that’s some good old-fashioned wingnut hatin’, and nobody hates like Dana Loesch! These are apparently the tweets that set her off:

After Loesch’s tirade, breitbart.com “investigative journalist” Mandy Nagy (@Liberty_Chick) got into the act, retweeting some even sleazier posts by one of the people from the website described in this LGF article: Rodan Exposed: The Shocking Audio.

One of the things genuine stalkers do, of course, is to accuse their targets of being stalkers themselves. Notice also that the person who Mandy Nagy is retweeting has used a name similar to a frequent LGF commenter, ‘iceweasel.’ They just can’t help revealing how obsessive they are.

Then, of course, the always effervescent Dan Riehl contributed his own special brand of creepiness to the mix:

Dan is completely made of class.

But this wasn’t the end of the venom! Next, the Daily Caller’s “Obama Ate Dog” guy, Jim Treacher, went into auto-spew mode (asking me over and over when I was going to “apologize to Dan Rather” for some reason that I’m sure makes sense to a wingnut). Notice that I wasn’t even directing my tweets to him — I was talking with @AngryBlackLady — but Treacher just kept on ranting:

Just another day in the life of Mr. Irrelevant.

One funny thing:

ElSuerte @el_suerte 24 Apr 12

@giantcu92 @Lizardoid @DLoesch @DanRiehl It was a mixed metaphor, and not terribly coherent, but not racist.

Dana Loesch @DLoesch

@el_suerte No, no, noes. Charles previously classified it as a slur. According to his own rules, it still is one.

This ElSuerte guy was actually writing about the 'tar baby' not being racist in Bachmann's case, but in her rage dumb Loesch thought he was writing about 'uppity'.

Well the whole thing reads like a MBF gone terribly wrong. There's a big difference between Charles calling a group of nuns uppity and Limbaugh calling a black woman (the first lady) uppity. To me, it looks like more of the childish behavior we're accustomed to from Loesch, Riehl, etc.

15 Feline Fearless Leader  Wed, Apr 25, 2012 12:02:40pm

Humpty in _Through the Looking Glass_ pretty much does sum it all up.

“I don’t know what you mean by ‘glory,’ ” Alice said.
Humpty Dumpty smiled contemptuously. “Of course you don’t—till I tell you. I meant ‘there’s a nice knock-down argument for you!’ ”
“But ‘glory’ doesn’t mean ‘a nice knock-down argument’,” Alice objected.
“When I use a word,” Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, “it means just what I choose it to mean—neither more nor less.”
“The question is,” said Alice, “whether you can make words mean so many different things.”
“The question is,” said Humpty Dumpty, “which is to be master that’s all.”
Alice was too much puzzled to say anything, so after a minute Humpty Dumpty began again. “They’ve a temper, some of them—particularly verbs, they’re the proudest—adjectives you can do anything with, but not verbs—however, I can manage the whole lot! Impenetrability! That’s what I say!”[15]

He even understand adjectives as being the most flexibily used.

John Hagee Claims Saudis are 'Poisoning the Minds of America's Young People' by financing 'Secular Universities'

Televangelist John Hagee stopped by WallBuilders Live today where the preacher and conservative activist told hosts David Barton and Rick Green that universities are “poisoning the minds of America’s young people” as a result of Saudi financing of “anti-American” professors. He went on to claim that the US is facing decline because of prohibitions on public school-organized prayer and legal abortion as America “in the ’60s turned our back on the very foundations of spiritual and moral greatness that established this nation and we have been going downhill ever since”:

Burger King to use eggs from cage-free hens

The nation's No. 2 fast food chain announced an agreement Wednesday with the Humane Society of the United States to switch to eggs from hens not kept in cages, and to only use pork products from pigs also not kept and bred in small cages.

While rivals McDonald's, Wendy's and other food-service companies already have policies or agreements with the Humane Society on the humane treatment of pigs, Wednesday's announcement was the first by a major chain that it would switch to cage-free eggs.

"What this does is send a clear message to these industries that their customers and the public don't want animals confined for their entire lives in cages. They will have to make changes," said Matt Prescott, food policy director for the Humane Society.

That is excellent news. If you have ever seen a commercial, "factory farm" egg producing operation you would never buy one of those eggs again. They are horrific and heartbreaking. Buying eggs laid by cage-free hens is so worth the extra buck or less. With major buyers going this route, the price will come down as well.

59 A Sockpuppet's Sockpuppet  Wed, Apr 25, 2012 12:37:57pm

Let's see if I can translate reality into RWNj derpspeak.

This is primarily for Dana Loesch because I'm pretty sure Dan Riehl is nothing more than a poorly configured rebeatbot.

First some background for you Loesch. There is something called context that determines which definition of a word with more than one meaning or use is the one intended by the speaker. Generally, it's the speaker who determines the meaning of the word by placing the word within a group of other words with a common idea or theme. From there the intelligent listener understands what was intended by the speaker.

Do you understand?

In the case of uppity, which has the general meanings of "Taking liberties or assuming airs beyond one's station; presumptuous: " and "not yielding easily to persuasion or control" as given by "The Free Dictionary dot com" the actual use within its context will give us the meaning.

In the case of racist use, there is an implied or explicit, depending on the sophistication of the speaker, imposed, artificial positioning of one race above another, most usually black Americans placed below white Americans, generally due to their respective historical relationship. The term 'uppity' is used by the supposedly superior group to denigrate, (that means 'put down') the supposedly inferior group.

That's a bad thing.

There is another piece of background information you need, and that is called sarcasm. Sarcasm is a rhetorical tactic using facetious irony to make a derogatory comment about someone's actions or words. In many cases it is used by placing words in the virtual mouth of the the opponent that can give insight into the opponent's beliefs. The words are intended to represent what the opponent believes, not what the speaker believes. This needs to be stressed - the words are intended to be from the opponent, not the speaker. This should be easy for you to understand because it resembles your own understanding of words.

In the case of the nuns, the use of the word was reflective of the inferior/superior position of the nuns and their bosses, developed not by Charles, but by the church. Charles also used the word sarcastically to imply the church heads view the nuns as being disobedient and stubborn, as well as trying to act above their station. Remember the inferior/superior relationship in this case is not artificial, nor is it imposed by Charles. It is a real relationship built and supported by the church.

Surely even you can see the difference in usage of the word.

If you can't, I suggest you look the word 'context' up in a dictionary.

Burger King to use eggs from cage-free hens

Potentially great news. In principle, though, the lack of a cage doesn't necessarily imply greatly expanded space for the chicken. I've seen some pretty horrifyingly cramped conditions for technically 'free-range' chickens. As I see it, the space to move around is a much larger issue of humane treatment than is the cage itself; the two are often correlated but it should not be taken to be a 1:1 correspondence.

Of course, even 8 years later, the mythical typewriter that could have written the memo has failed to appear. [Link: www.amazon.com...]

And the description:

This memoir by Dan Rather -- one of the most pre-eminent journalists of our time -- is told in a straightforward and conversational manner so that you hear his distinctive voice on every page. Rather, -- who has won every prestigious journalism award in his distinguished career -- discusses all the big stories from his decades of reporting. This very personal accounting includes (but is certainly not limited to) his dismissal from CBS, the Abu Ghraib story, the George W. Bush Air National Guard controversy, his coverage of the JFK assassination, the origin of "Hurricane Dan" as well as inside stories about all the top personalities Dan has either interviewed or worked with over his remarkable career.

The book will also include Dan's thoughts and reflections on the state of journalism today and what he sees for its future, as well as never-before-revealed personal observations and commentary.

I wouldn't doubt for a minute if the Killian memos debate starts heating up again in a few weeks after the book comes out.

re: #57 Charles Johnson

That article claimed that they had a lawyer who said that they tracked down typewriters that could produce results:

In any case, MacDougald’s arguments about the documents turned out to be inaccurate. He acknowledged as much in an interview with me in 2008. And in a speech given that same year, Mike Missal, a lawyer for the firm that CBS hired to investigate its own report, said, “It’s ironic that the blogs were actually wrong. . . . We actually did find typewriters that did have the superscript, did have proportional spacing. And on the fonts, given that these are copies, it’s really hard to say, but there were some typewriters that looked like they could have some similar fonts there. So the initial concerns didn’t seem as though they would hold up.”

IIRC, research into whether there were typewriters that could create the memo found that there were some typewriters that could do what was found in the memos, but none of them could or would have been in the employ of the TANG because they were cost prohibitive or were so newly introduced that they couldn't have been contemporaneous to the time of the alleged memo (and please correct me if my memory is faulty on this).

And as you showed with the throbbing memo, someone with MSFT (which we all know didn't exist at the time the memos were supposedly written) could create the document with no problem - right on down to the spacing, typeface, and all the other related data points...

That plus all the other experts who weighed in and found that the memos were bogus.

The rest of that article is suspect and seems geared towards rehabilitating Rather's image, rather than trying to put out new facts.

These people are acting like jilted lovers, completely irrational. A few days ago Treacher tweeted this at me suddenly:

@Lizardoid You know how you've betrayed everybody who stood by you for years, and now none of your new pals can trust you? Yeah. That.

[Embedded content]

Sorry, Treacher, I still stand by Charles, as I have since the dark days right after 9-11, and I still trust him.

Btw, I am still very proud of the role this site in exposing memo-gate, though it could conceivably have kept John Kerry from becoming president. Fraud is fraud no matter who it benefits.

I think it's unlikely that Rather can make a comeback but it is possible. I think journalistic ethics (with much help from Fox) have degraded considerably since Rathergate. I doubt MSNBC would give him a job but if they did I don't think many viewers would object.

re: #69 lawhawk

That article claimed that they had a lawyer who said that they tracked down typewriters that could produce results:

The fact is that the font in the memo from my animated GIF simply did not exist in that form in the 1970s. Font design is very much like a fingerprint -- different versions of the same font will always have tiny differences in spacing, kerning, letter shapes, etc. They're unique.

That means that even if you found a 70s typewriter or typesetting machine that could do superscripts and a Times-like font, there's absolutely no way you would ever be able to produce an exact duplicate, like I did with Microsoft Word.

77 A Sockpuppet's Sockpuppet  Wed, Apr 25, 2012 1:04:56pm

From this Treacher fellow I'm seeing a belief that right and wrong is determined by group membership and not through actions.

I suspect it's because of his upbringing.
Or perhaps his soul is dirty.
Maybe it's in his DNA.
Then again, it's probably a lifestyle choice.

I'm not ruling out that he's just pretending to be obtuse.

Meanwhile, Sarkozy may lose the presidency due to French anger over austerity there, while Holland's government is in the middle of a break-up over a proposal for further budget cuts.

85 Charles Johnson  Wed, Apr 25, 2012 1:17:43pm

Obama's Fallon Appearance Violated Campaign Law

The equal time rule states that if a licensee permits a person “who is a legally qualified candidate for any public office to use a broadcasting station, he shall afford equal opportunities to all other such candidates for that office in the use of such broadcasting station.”

There are exceptions to the rule: appearances on (1) a bona fide newscast, (2) a bona fide news interview, (3) a bona fide news documentary, or (4) on-the-spot coverage of bona fide news events.

Only the second provision could be construed as saving NBC from giving Mitt Romney equal time. But this was not a bona fide news interview. In fact, it wasn’t an interview at all – no questions were asked, no answers were given. It was literally Obama reading a campaign speech over a guitar, a horn, a keyboard, and some drums.

Not only was this appearance in violation of equal time law, it was clearly an in-kind contribution by NBC to the Obama campaign. As the Federal Elections Commission states, “A donation of services is … considered an in-kind contribution.” Under applicable law, contribution of broadcast time is considered such a service. This was a campaign commercial for Obama, and the Obama campaign was not charged for it. A minute of network time can cost up to a couple million dollars; this segment ran a full five minutes. There is no doubt that Obama was given millions of dollars of free advertising time, and the Romney campaign should invoke all available law to make that clear.

NBC should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. Mitt Romney should be given equal time, and an equally sycophantic propaganda piece by Fallon. Obama should be ashamed of himself (though, of course, he has no capacity for shame).

Punish them! Burn them with fire!

One of the tests I did with the Rathergate memo, by the way, was to try to recreate it with other programs using the same font and tab/margin settings. I quickly realized that I wasn't going to be able to do it without a LOT of messing around, and maybe not at all.

So it's not only the font itself that is unique, but the device used to create the document. It looked radically different in Apple's TextEdit program than it did in Microsoft Word - and the MS Word version was a perfect match.

I'd bet the original was actually done on a Mac, with the same version of MS Word I used, because other versions would also result in different-looking documents.

Lawyer Calling for Sharia Courts to Be Checked for Extremism

Dagir Khasavov said in an interview with Ren-TV on Tuesday that any attempts to prevent the creation of Islamic law courts would end in "bloodshed" and a "second Dead Sea."

"Muslims don't want to get involved in the court system," Khasavov said. "You think that we come here to Russia as to some foreign place. But we believe that we're at home here. Perhaps you're foreign and we're at home. And we will institute rules that suit us, whether you want that or not."

"Any attempts to stop this will end in bloodshed. There will be a second Dead Sea here — we will fill the city with blood," he said.

Khasavov's words were reported by other media outlets Wednesday and discussed in the Russian blogosphere. Police said the comments would be checked for signs of extremism and inciting ethnic hatred, Interfax reported.

Moscow's Islamic Clerics Reject Creation Of Shari'a Courts

Talgat Tadzhuddin, head of the Central Religious Directorate of Muslims, and Moscow's Chief Mufti Albir Krganov said such Islamically inspired courts would violate Russia's legal separation of church and state.

They were responding to a proposal by Daghestani lawyer Dagir Khasavov, who said in an interview that Muslims in Russia want Shari'a courts because they do not trust the existing secular courts.

The opposition Yabloko party says it will sue Khasavov for "inciting hatred and extremism."

The Russian Interior Ministry is investigating whether Khasavov's remarks included extremist words.

But a spokesman for Russia's Orthodox Church, Vsevolod Chaplin, said that Muslims in Russia should not be deprived of their customs -- and that Shari'a courts could be established under the law.

Well, taking a breather from interacting at Breitbart.com. Here's the story so far:

Romney appearing on the Tonight Show last month as a GOP candidate for POTUS does not violate equal time requirements because he talked about how he would handle health care and the tax code if elected President.

On the other hand, Obama's appearance on Late Night violates the equal time requirements because he gives a campaign speech in which he talks about student loan legislation. That Romney agrees with.

NBC and Comcast, despite have thousands of lawyers at their disposal, have not announced that Romney was extended a rebuttal, for want of a better word, in response to Obama's Fallon bit.

Therefore, Obama violated equal time requirements.

I hope you're taking notes, 'cause I ain't repeating that.

Keller: A Vote for Romney will Lead 1 Million Plus Souls to Hell

"Christians have a real dilemma this November. It is like Satan flipping a two-headed coin with his head on both sides. How can anyone who claims to be a follower of Christ vote for our current President who in every word and deed has proven to be a true enemy of God on every major spiritual issue of the day. He has been a staunch advocate for the legalized slaughter of babies, promoted the radical homosexual agenda, and been a friend to the enemies of Israel."

Keller went on, "The Republican choice will be a member of the satanic Mormon cult who will never have to say a word for his cult to take advantage of their ultimate goal since they were founded 200 years ago, and that is to gain mainstream acceptance, giving them all the ammunition they need to aggressively seek converts to their cults beliefs. Conservative estimates are that they will gain at least 1 million new converts, meaning a Romney election will help insure at least 1 million souls will burn in hell for all eternity! Any 'Christian leader' who supports Romney obviously cares more about politics than souls!!!"

Keller concluded, "For Christians to vote with a clear conscience, they will have to pray hard about ALL candidates for President, meaning looking at the third party candidates as well. In the end, as I shared last November a Romney/Obama match-up means that God has finally taken His hand of protection and blessing off of this nation for our gross sins and wickedness. The reality is, NO politician has the true answers this nation needs, since our true problems are spiritual and not political, and the only hope for the United States is to repent of our sins and turn back to God and Biblical Truth."

Maybe they should all build an ark.

As an exercise in debating, mostly. Plus, I generally don't peruse that many conservative sites. Can't hurt to familiarize myself with what I'm criticizing.

Besides, when the insects normally talk to me, it's usually to exhort the values of day old cheese and commands to burn things.

On another note, the last time I consciously sought out a conservative site to read, I heard there was a popular one called Little Green Footballs. Interesting how things turn out.

Right now it's ~90.1 °F. Fifteen degrees higher than the "normal" temperature, and three degrees higher than the previous record high, which was set last year. Gonna be a long summer.

If I had sought out and registered for the conservative LGF, it would not have been productive, given all the ways in which the old guard would have automatically despised me, I only started paying close attention to LGF after the Vlamms Belang stories

seriously, it ain't worth it, you're giving your time to terrible and/or stupid people on BB, it's pointless

then again, I don't have a facebook account, so I may be outside the mainstream of this whole social networking scene :D

Agree to disagree, I guess. 15 years ago, I had a co-worker ask me to tape some show on PBS that was dealing with El Rushbo. When I asked why he'd waste his time watching that, he smiled and said, "It's good to know the enemy."

As far as LGF: I've only been hanging here for about 2 years or so. Like you, I would not have been popular in the "olden times." But, so what? You never know what you'll find by going down that street you normally walk past.

It may contain the best brew pub in the world. Or you could get mugged with a garden weasel. Always good to keep on your toes.

Heh. I notice one thing about these embedded tweets. If there are a lot of them, like in this article, as the page is loading it just scrolls further down as each one of them is rendered by the Twitter Javascript code, because the embedded tweets take up more vertical space when rendered.

partial rendering is the root of all evil

Do any of the other respected "journalists" on CNN get into these Twitter flame wars? Loesch sounds like a developmentally disabled 4-year old lashing out uncontrollably.

Seriously, I don't think CNN employs anyone else who does this. Liberals like Carville, Begala and Brazile don't engage in this, do they? Nor do the other conservatives on CNN: Castellanos et al. Maybe Erickson does too. But it's an embarassment for CNN.

I'm not even sure that the more clearly partisan Fox and MSNBC have trash like Dana puking all over the blogosphere with the most mindless of personal attacks.

And of course:

I don't think it really does you any good to roll around in the mud with these people....which is what you are doing by posting the play-by-play.

Two quotes come to mind: "Never argues with an idiot, for he will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience". There's also "“Never argue with a fool, the onlookers may not be able to tell the difference".

There's also: "Smile. It really irritates those who wish to destroy you."

By posting all of this stuff, you're giving them the recognition they seek.
By ignoring it, and not even justifying it with a response...you get to look down into the sty from above, while they roll around in it.

Just a thought.

It's "Just a thought" because it is his blog, not mine. Can't tell him
what to do.

It is the "absolute truth of the matter", because it simply is. Getting into tit-for-tat, he-said-she-said stuff at that level, does nothing for you. Reposting it here only validates it, and plays into the hands of the people who playing such childish games on twitter. Getting the last word on twitter doesn't make you the winner...it just proves to these people that they can suck you into their game....which is exaclty what it is to them....fun.

Posting my opinion of Jim Hoft (which you so creepily bothered to dig up)
isn't the same as engaging in a twitter war with him, and posting it for all my readers (if I had a blog) to see.

I was getting downdinged by all the right wing put bulls here before they were all banned. Might as well take it from the new self appointed protectors of LGF as well.
