Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the defacto leader of the GOP.

Limbaugh wouldn't know science if you tied it to the end of a stick and bashed his head in.

Why do you always insist that we do the impossible?

The funniest part of this comes in the first few words: "You young people who are new to this program"... What? Both of them?

7 Romantic Heretic  Mon, Apr 30, 2012 2:03:40pm

Mr. Limbaugh, you can't tell the difference between history and mythology. And yes, you were trying to be insulting, you boneheaded, overweight, nasty lump of hate.

8 CriticalDragon1177  Mon, Apr 30, 2012 2:04:54pm

Charles Johnson

What's really upsetting about Rush is that some people take his arguments seriously and that's not a joke.

9 Schadenfreude 'r' Us  Mon, Apr 30, 2012 2:06:36pm

No, let's say it's 314,159 years old. That number sounds more scientific.

They're stuck with grandpa for the day while mom runs errands. A long, long day of Limbaugh, microwaved hot dogs, and wondering why they have no wi-fi connection.

11 Amory Blaine  Mon, Apr 30, 2012 2:10:06pm

Isn't it heresy to speculate that the earth is that old?

12 Mattand  Mon, Apr 30, 2012 2:19:52pm

Well, Rush didn't say between six to ten thousand years old, so there's that. I guess.

I just can't wait for the religious wingderps to phone in and call him an elitest because he went over that figure.

How's the grandbaby?

My wife and I spent from 11pm til 6am with him and my daughter at the hospital. All we got out of the doctors was my daughter has to breast feed. Big frikkin' help.

It looks like it was a combination of things. He appears to have a reaction to latex, the silicone nipples don't seem to cause a rash, and my daughter was giving him too much milk. She was told originally he needed 2oz at a time. She was told this morning 1oz is plenty. I guess he was throwing up because his stomach was too full.

She's now giving him just a taste of milk from a bottle to stop him from crying and then breast feeding. He seems to be latching on better now so maybe she'll start producing enough to carry the little guy.

Incorrect info can be a bugger.

Past temps really don't mean anything right now, they're used mostly as a gauge for atmosphere sensitivity to CO2. What science tells us about the effects of GHGs on temps and how those temps will effect the ecology is what is important. Try to explain that to a denalist and all you'll get is a brief quizzical look and then an avalanche of predigested regurgitated talking points.

I was just responding to Rush's statements. Of course past temps won't tell us what climate should be like now. But, as you say, it will help us understand the effects of things like atmospheric chemistry on climate and help us control for those factors in the models. Rush was making a classic argument from ignorance, in all senses of the phrase.

Obiwan Kenobi arrested on charge of hit-and-run

Obi-Wan Kenobi was always a bit of a rogue Jedi, even lamenting his own former lack of patience during a dramatic exchange with Yoda in "The Empire Strikes Back."

But a California man who legally changed his name to match that of the fictional "Star Wars" hero may have given in to the temptations of the dark side of the Force, as he was charged with a hit-and-run.

According to the Auburn Press Tribune, Obiwan Kenobi was allegedly responsible for a five-car accident and is charged with leaving the scene after the wreck occurred.

And as Yoda warned the fictional Kenobi, "Told you I did. Reckless is he. Now, matters are worse."

The force wasn't with him.

Police Remove Muslim Women From Pam Geller’s ‘Human Rights Conference’

Geller claims that she wants to help Muslim women and that the conference was in defense of the human rights of Muslim women. But surprisingly, Muslim women found themselves denied entry to the conference and, after patiently waiting in the corridor after being told to wait, were removed from the Hyatt Hotel by the Dearborn Police Department and Hyatt security.

... and another woman expressed surprise that Geller, who has asked to hear from more Muslim voices on human rights issues, was denying Muslims access to her event. “I watched an interview with her [...] and she said, ‘Where are the Muslims?’ Well, we’re here!”

WTF?

SC teacher facing charges over 'Jew' comment

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Police in South Carolina say a middle school teacher has been accused of dragging a student under a table during class, telling the boy "this is what the Nazis do to Jews."

The 12-year-old student told police he got up to sharpen a pencil at Bluffton Middle School on Wednesday when the teacher grabbed him by his collar and said, "come here, Jew."

The seventh-grade teacher, Patricia Mulholland, claims she was trying to teach the students a lesson about the Holocaust. Attorney Robert Ferguson says the teacher's attempt to teach about World War II and the Holocaust has been taken to mean an anti-Semitic rant and it was nothing like that.

Mulholland turned herself in to face charges of assault and battery and public disorderly conduct.

Asteroid mining could be against the law

Leave it to lawyers to ruin the party. Just a week after James Cameron and Google announced their plans to extract water and precious metals from nearby asteroids comes a warning from a space law expert who says the paperwork isn't quite done yet. We need to improve the legal framework, he says, before we start drilling rocks in space.

In a press release issued by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, space law expert Frans von der Dunk warned that the applicable legal systems, both in terms of U.S. and international law, must be improved and expanded upon before any space-mined products are brought back to Earth and sold.

Planned Parenthood wins preliminary injunction in women’s health case

U.S. District Judge Lee Yeakel today issued a preliminary injunction saying the state can’t bar Planned Parenthood from offering services through the Medicaid Women’s Health Program, pending his final decision in the case.

Yeakel set a scheduling conference for May 18, at which he expects parties to be prepared to discuss a trial date.

Planned Parenthood is suing over the state’s decision to exclude clinics associated with abortion providers from the program, even though the clinics themselves don’t provide abortions.

Planned Parenthood, which has been a big part of the program, said the provision violates its constitutional rights.

The state disagrees. Solicitor General Jonathan F. Mitchell said during a hearing on the case that the state would have to end the program if Planned Parenthood won its legal battle to keep participating.

Yeakel, in his order granting the preliminary injunction, said Planned Parenthood affiliates had satisfied the legal burden necessary “to be entitled to maintain the status quo that exists between them and the State of Texas, pending this court’s determination of the merits of Plaintiffs’ allegations.”

That legal standard includes proving “a substantial likelihood of success on the merits of their claim.”

“In balancing the relative harm to the parties and the court’s concern for the interest of the public, the court is particularly influenced by the potential for immediate loss of access to necessary medical services by several thousand Texas women,” Yeakel wrote.
