Was Richard M. Nixon a Closet Marxist: Forward Together

46th Inaugural Theme, ‘Forward Together’ and its Marxist-Socialist-Communist origins reveal
Humor • Views: 40,322

In an exclusive to Little Green Footballs this intrepid reporter has located what seems to be evidence of the phrase “Forward Together” used for the 46th Inaugural of America’s president in 1969 and being none other then the alleged anti-Communist, Richard M. Nixon. The inaugural slogan, utilized the word “Forward” — “a word with a long and rich association with European Marxism” and Mao’s “Great Leap Forward” which spanned the years 1949 to 1976. The Washington Times further explains:

Many Communist and radical publications and entities throughout the 19th and 20th centuries had the name “Forward!” or its foreign cognates. Wikipedia has an entire section called “Forward (generic name of socialist publications).”

“The name Forward carries a special meaning in socialist political terminology. It has been frequently used as a name for socialist, communist and other left-wing newspapers and publications,” the online encyclopedia explains.

What follows is a selection of images from the “Forward Together” inaugural theme which begs the question? Was Richard M. Nixon a closet Marxist? What about the use of “Up With People” combined with the “Forward Together” in the inaugural float? Here we not only combine the Marxist “Forward” but “People” as in the People’s Republic of China.

Vicki Lynne Cole (right) with her “Bring Us Together Again” sign on the “Forward Together” theme float.

Nixon Portrait: “Forward Together”

Forward Together: Welcome 46th Inaugural

Was Richard M. Nixon a closet Marxist? This could perhaps explain his eagerness to meet Mao in his famous visit to the People’s Republic of China and the ease with which he approved the communistic government agency, the Environmental Protection Agency. This is a rather disturbing revelation and may prove that Richard M. Nixon was the first Marxist president ever to be elected in the United States of America — a Republican-Marxist no less. It might also explain the ease with which Nixon handed over South Vietnam to the Red Chinese!

Not to mention the Forward for Freedom speech of "Red Ronnie" still beloved by marxist conservatives to this day.

The entire concept of moving the ball 'forward' in football was obviously planted in there by red agitators. The real original game of patriotic American football involved standing on the ball with one foot (hence, football) while punching the lights out of anyone who dared come near it.

Once you've fallen for the lie that Obama is a socialist, then everything becomes further evidence of his socialism. Even the use of an innocuous and completely neutral word like forward becomes socialist code. But when a guy like Nixon used forward it was OK because we all know he wasn't a socialist. The argument is a logical trainwreck.

It's kinda like the controversy over Obama bowing to a foreign leader. When other presidents bowed, it was OK. But when Obama bows, it means he hates America.

Another Marxist exposed! It turns out that St. Ronald of Reagan's own Vice President, George H. W. Bush, was a closet Marxist too. Here's his 1988 campaign biography for proof:

Forza Italia[3] (Forward Italy, FI) was a liberal-conservative,[4][5] Christian democratic,[2] and liberal[6] political party in Italy, with a large social democratic minority,[2] that was led by Silvio Berlusconi, four times Prime Minister of Italy.

I am sick to death of this garbage. Not voting for Romney does NOT equal voting for Obama.
In 2008 Obama was funded by Russia.
Wikileaks got emails that there was massive vote fraud, McCain knew it and did nothing.
Spain is going to "count" our votes. Can you say RIGGED?

Romney cannot and will not win. Just as McCain didn't.

Esa to decide on Juice mission to Jupiter

Delegates to the European Space Agency are expected to approve a billion-euro mission to Jupiter and its icy moons when they meet in Paris on Wednesday.

The probe, called Juice, would be built in time for a launch in 2022, although it would be a further eight years before it reached the Jovian system.

Facebook will go public on May 18, a published report says, in one of the most highly anticipated tech initial public offerings since Google went public in August 2004.

The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday that the social networking company is set to start its roadshow on Monday, according to people familiar with the matter. The roadshow, a series of meetings with prospective institutional investors, is designed to stir interest in the company's stock.

Jews have been leaders in imposing socialism on nations and mostly socialist for generations. By the same logic AD is not different from CE, since they denote the very same supposed event.

Moreover, by the same logic then it would make no difference if he spelled it out further: "in the year of our Lord and God Jesus Christ".

The simple fact is that words employed do matter, and specific phrasing can add to the meaning. I think those who think otherwise are deluding themselves.

Uhm, no. CE does not enclose any notion of deference or reverence.

Moreover, by the same logic then it would make no difference if he spelled it out further: "in the year of our Lord and God Jesus Christ".

Again, no. Totally different semantical issue. And please don't throw around the phrase "by the same logic" if you do not, in fact, apply the same logic or treat content indifferently.

The simple fact is that words employed do matter, and specific phrasing can add to the meaning. I think those who think otherwise are deluding themselves.

Uhm, no. CE does not enclose any notion of deference or reverence.

But it does, by the very fact of choosing to count from the supposed date of birth of that guy, and not any other guy.

Again, no. Totally different semantical issue. And please don't throw around the phrase "by the same logic" if you do not, in fact, apply the same logic or treat content indifferently.

AD is not equal to spelling out the middle version, yet you claim it is. Just the same, then, mentioning Jesus by name is even more divisive than mere "Lord" (even though they narrate the same thing), but if AD and the middle version are the same in impact, what's the diff between the middle version and the long one?

The simple fact that the WH chose to drop the middle version from the Jewish heritage month declaration shows they understand that its use is not entirely secular. I think they should be consistent and drop it everywhere.

You are being very intellectual dishonest if you think that counting from a certain date is somehow equivalent or even remotely comparable to worship.

AD is not equal to spelling out the middle version, yet you claim it is.

Uh, yes it is equivalent. It means the same thing. Anno Domini means "in the year of our Lord". The fact that it is conventional to ignore that doesn't change that fact. The fact that you like that conventional ignorance does not suggest another conventional formula is more or less secular.

if AD and the middle version are the same in impact, what's the diff between the middle version and the long one?

You don't really want me to explain to you what "our God Jesus Christ" means, so you are being disingenious. And no, that does not "narrate the same thing". Affirming the reality of Christianity having reigned supreme over historical chronology is not the same as affirming Christianity.

re: #82 Unlike Some People

You are being very intellectual dishonest if you think that counting from a certain date is somehow equivalent or even remotely comparable to worship.

Except of course I made no such claim. What I said is that your claim of no deference is false. You're forced to use this system which can never be entirely secular due to its roots, so you're showing deference in any case. You're counting from this date and not from any other date whether you like it or not, and this date has purely religious roots. So the aim is not to achieve some super-secular solution, but to use the sufficiently neutral language. While I myself prefer CE/BCE, AD/BC (in such form) are neutral enough for my tastes (you asked about my preference, remember?).

Uh, no, in no way it is equivalent to use "AD" and to spell out the whole middle version (or even just to spell out the abbreviation). You once again ignored the fact that word usage matters. It matters e.g. whether one writes "BC" or insists on spelling out "before Christ". "The medium is the message". The middle version is not anywhere as common as AD. You will see even atheists using AD/BC, but hardly the middle version.

You don't really want me to explain to you what "our God Jesus Christ" means, so you are being disingenious.

Except it's the same as saying "in the year of our Lord", since that Lord (and God) is Jesus. So you insist that AD and the middle version have the same meaning, but object to explicit unpacking the middle version, which makes my point. Also, you're being inconsistent, and thus disingenuous, not to mention willing to engage in name-calling over smallest things.

BTW, "the year of our Lord Jesus Christ" is listed as an alternative form of "the year of our Lord".

And no, that does not "narrate the same thing". Affirming the reality of Christianity having reigned supreme over historical chronology is not the same as affirming Christianity.

Except that's not what CE denotes at all. CE is just a fig leaf over AD anyway.

I'm going to go ahead and break Godwin's Law here for a minute.

It's been interesting to see conservatism in America collectively lose its freaking minds over the last 4-5 years or so. It's interesting because I've seen individuals and close acquaintances, some of them quite intelligent people, willingly follow the march of the cliff lock and step with the collective insanity of today's Right.

Now, of course, what we have on the right wing of the Republican Party is nowhere remotely close to what the Nazis were, heaven forbid, but seeing the lockstep movement of an ideology has been fascinating, from a morally neutral, sociological point of view. Therein lies the danger of embracing an ideology "X" and sticking by the view that being more "X" is better than getting anywhere near the opposition "Y". Once the human brain classifies "X" as a virtue, there seems to be no pulling back on most people, and I'm beginning to see how some of the most extreme political movements that ever existed, Left and Right, found their feeding grounds.

A terrifying aspect of human nature.

I think we will probably differ on the conditions which created OWS. As the economy improves the economic purpose of OWS will become less important. They pretty much abandoned their economic cause anyways. What I think is driving the momentum is that OWS is willing to partner with pretty much anyone else on the "left". Unions, Immigration activists, anti-war, anti-globalization groups, anarchists, etc. That's why I think May Day was a good choice for relaunch. It's a generic expression of leftiness with lots of groups participating. The NATO summit will attract lots of anti-globalization moonbats so that will be a good opportunity too.
I think the increasing violent nature of Occupy and tacit support for the resulting terrorism will prevent OWS from becoming widely popular but the left doesn't seem bothered and will continue to support it.

Well, it's not true that people on the left are not bothered by it. I'm certainly bothered by parts of it. But I think what gets it some level of support by "the left", myself included, is the fact that it has really been decades since anything resembling a left wing moment has actually existing inside the U.S. In many ways, OWS is something that the desire for such an organized moment can, rightly or wrongly, be projected upon. We're a bit tired of simply being punching bags for the various radical right wing moments.

Police seize 70 items from protesters

Following an emergency order from Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn, Seattle police said they seized about 70 items from protesters which could have been used to damage property or wielded as weapons.

According to a post on SPD’s online “blotter,” the items included metal sign poles, sharpened wooden stakes, screw topped wooden staffs and a corrugated metal barrier with jagged edges. One device appeared to be built of a bunch of cigarette lighters taped together.

The items were taken after McGinn issued a civil emergency proclamation Tuesday afternoon, giving police the authority to confiscate weapons or anything that could be “reasonably perceived” as a weapon from people in the downtown area.

The SPD has posted photos of some of the seized items here.

Since some were questioning the use of FBI informants and fake explosives...
[Link: ktar.com...]

The FBI said suspects bought fake explosives from an undercover employee and put them at the base of a highway bridge over the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, about 15 miles south of downtown Cleveland, on Monday. After leaving the park, they tried to initiate the explosives using a text-message detonation code, and they called the person who provided the bombs to check the code when it failed, according to the FBI affidavit.

This is why the FBI handles investigations this way. If the FBI just watched and let them acquire real explosives there's no way to know if they really intended to use them. It makes a much stronger legal case to have then actually go through with the attack plan without endangering the public.

Well, it is a relatively slow news day. Other than the fact that Assad continues killing Syrians (and the rebels keep fighting back) but Assad has time to talk chess with a grand master as his nation is embroiled in open revolt.

Egyptian security forces clashed with protesters leaving around 10 people dead. Fatouh suspended his campaign in protest.

Islamist presidential candidate Abdel-Moneim Aboul Fotouh announced on his Twitter account that he was suspending his campaign, and said the state “must protect peaceful demonstrations.”
Police and military forces were deployed to halt the violence hours after the clashes erupted, Nile News reported. Many of the protesters were supporters of Hazem Abou Ismail, the Salafi lawyer-turned-cleric who was disqualified from the presidential race because his mother held U.S. citizenship before her death. Abou Ismail has criticized the move as an attempt to sideline him from the race.

Seif Abu Samra, the head of the prosecutor’s office in the Cairo neighborhood of Waili, said that many of the dead had gunshot wounds.
Mursi’s comments reflect the Brotherhood’s ongoing battle with the military council over who is to blame for the country’s woes. The showdown has mired Egypt in political paralysis, with a panel to draft the new constitution disbanded, a $3.2 billion loan from the International Monetary Fund delayed by political wrangling and the constitutional court due to rule May 6 on the legitimacy of the parliament.

It's just a straw man. OWS is presented here as way of throwing these violent acts in our face and then expecting us to respond automatically. This was due to our initial support of OWS. Then these same people will say "if we're silent then we must approve." It's not really about OWS and instead is more of an internal LGF power struggle being pushed by a once popular LGF member that finds himself on the fringes for pushing contrarian views not on principle but as a form of social sport.

South Korea blames North Korea for jamming GPS signals affecting flights in and out of Incheon Airport.

Jamming signals thought to be from North Korea have affected GPS navigation on at least 250 flights, South Korean officials say.

Nine South Korean and nine foreign airlines have been affected since Saturday, the Transport Ministry said.

The flights had to rely on alternative navigation systems but were in no danger, the ministry added.

The South has accused the North - with which it remains technically at war - of similar incidents in the past.

"We've confirmed the GPS [global positioning system] jamming signals have been stemming from the North," Lee Kyung-woo, deputy director at Seoul's Korea Communications Commission, was quoted by Agence-France Presse news agency as saying.

The transport ministry has not set out who was to blame. But director Kim Choon-oh told the agency the GPS disruption was noticeable at Incheon international airport.

It’s not easy being a Wall Street gazillionaire these days
By Greg Sargent

Nick Confessore of the New York Times has a big story in the forthcoming Sunday magazine about Obama’s sour relations with Wall Street and the impact it’s having on fundraising.

Buried in the story is an extraordinary anecdote: Wall Streeters are so upset about Obama’s harsh populist rhetoric that they privattely called on him to make amends with a big speech — like his oration on race — designed to heal the wounds of class warfare in this country.

Obama campaign manager Jim Messina recently met with a group of Wall Street donors, and they gave him an earful:

For the next hour, the donors relayed to Messina what their friends had been saying. They felt unfairly demonized for being wealthy. They felt scapegoated for the recession...

Greg clinches it...

Where to begin? Wall Street excess helped lead to the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression, inflicting untold economic suffering on millions and millions of Americans. In both rhetorical and substantive terms, the Obama administration’s response was by any reasonable measure moderate and restrained. Indeed, Obama clearly viewed himself as a buffer between Wall Street and rising populist passion, telling a group of bankers in April of 2009: “My administration is the only thing between you and the pitchforks.”

There are more than a few folks here in Madison that would love an opportunity to teach Wall Street what the words Decimation and Defenistration actually mean. I don't think they understand just how deep the hatred runs out here in the rust belt. Ugh. I used to argue with a guy who was a dyed-in-the-wool Paultard and devotee of the Mises Institute. He'd post endlessly about praxeology and about how the only function of government was to protect the borders, but that everything else, including police, the courts, and all emergency services should be privatized.

He also thought Somalia was a model system because they don't have a government and they're still around because of an innate social contract or some shit. I had to consistently point out that a bunch of people living in fear of a bunch of tribal warlords with guns aren't actually free.

Idealistic and stupid in equal measure. They're convinced that if you privatize everything, go back on the gold standard, and "let the market decide" that we'd all end up right where we are now, or that we'd magically live in a place where everyone is rich and the world doesn't have any problems.

I personally think that some sort of "happy" equilibrium has to be reached. Total idealism seems to drift in fanaticism and/or completely losing touch with reality into some sort of fantasy of how things should be "if only...". On the other extreme total realism (or at least a sort of realpolitik outlook) are some of the worst people you can encounter. Living life as a zero-sum game* is something I don't really contemplate well. Too many social relationships there where trust and goals for general improvement are helpful to both the society and the personality.

Pig poo power the answer to China's porky poser?

(Reuters) - Seven hundred million pigs produce a lot of poo.

China's love of pork presents a mountain of a problem for the environment, 1.4 million metric tons (1.5 million tons) of pig poo a year to be precise, but an Australian company believes it has part of the answer.

Why not turn the pig poo into power?

Using a bioreactor called "PooCareTM" and other technology, the pig manure is converted into biofuel for cooking and heating while the residual goes to farmers as nutrient-rich fertilizers.

"The benefits are energy and fuel for farmers as well as preventing further contamination of the environment," said Ravi Naidu, chief scientist at CRC for Contamination Assessment and Remediation of the Environment (CRC Care), a South Australian-based firm involved in drawing up the technology.

"So it's really a green technology from that perspective," Naidu, a University of South Australia professor, told Reuters.

Tim Pawlenty, national co-chair of the Romney campaign, said on CNN Wednesday morning that Mitt Romney would not have laid out a timetable for withdrawing from Afghanistan, as President Obama detailed Tuesday.Obama announced from Afghanistan that he and Afghan President Karzai signed an agreement detailing the U.S.’s role in Afghanistan after the departure of U.S. troops in 2014.

“Well, Gov. Romney said 2014 may be an appropriate timetable, but let’s not announce it ahead of time for those who don’t have America’s interest at heart,” Pawlenty said. “That’s what President Obama has done. Gov. Romney would have taken a different approach and planned and executed those plans in private.”

The deals can be extended upon mutually agreed upon terms; it's similar to the way the US entered into status of forces agreement with Iraq. The deadline was set by the Bush Administration, the Obama Administration entered into negotiations to extend the time, but refused to give up exclusive rights to try criminal acts by military personnel (the Administration wanted immunity from prosecution in Iraqi courts for its forces operating in Iraq). When they couldn't come to terms, the deal in place holds the withdrawal date.

2014 may be a reasonable time frame and both sides can revisit the deal thereafter.

Cuba May Be the Most Feminist Country in Latin America

NEW YORK — Cuba may just be the most feminist country in Latin America.

It ranks No. 3 in the world when it comes to the political participation of women in Parliament, according to a United Nations survey on women in politics. And it’s the only nation in Latin America to rank in the top 20 in the World Economic Forum Global Gender Gap Report 2011.

In sheer numbers and percentages, Cuban women’s advance is notable. Cuba has a high number of female professional and technical workers (60 percent of the total work force in those areas) and in Parliament (43 percent), as well as high levels of primary, secondary and tertiary education enrollment, according to the Gender Gap report.

Beside the beatings, torture, and firing-squads Cuba is a swell place for women to live!

Unearthed: George Zimmerman’s MySpace Page

The page was unearthed Wednesday by the Miami Herald, which confirmed its authenticity with Zimmerman’s attorney, Mark O’Mara.

On it, Zimmerman went by the alias Joe G. and username onlytobekingagain. The newspaper noted that this account is different than another one that was disabled last month, which had the username datniggytb.

In a long, rambling “About Me” section of the site, Zimmerman, who would have been in his early 20s when the site was active, wrote that he missed his friends in Manassas, Va., where he grew up and went to high school. But there were things he said he didn’t miss.

“I dont miss driving around scared to hit mexicans walkin on the side of the street, soft ass wanna be thugs messin with peoples cars when they aint around (what are you provin, that you can dent a car when no ones watchin) dont make you a man in my book,” Zimmerman wrote. “Workin 96 hours to get a decent pay check, gettin knifes pulled on you by every mexican you run into!”

Amendment One Pastor: "‘Crack’ Your Four-Year-Old Son’s Limp Wrist" says he was misquoted, taken out of context

By now you may know that my words, from Sunday morning's sermon, about effeminate behavior in children are being completely taken out of context by those in the LGBT community. (Nearly every article is misquoting me.)

Clearly, I would like to have been more careful with exactly what I said, but sometimes I say things without enough clarity. I trust you understood my intent in the context of my total preaching ministry. If you did not, I would be more than happy to meet with you privately to provide clarity. Just reply to this email. I provided clarity to the Fayetteville Observer today, but I cannot be sure they will accurately report my words.

For the record, I want to ensure everyone that I do NOT believe physical force is capable of fixing effeminate behavior or homosexual behavior. Parents should not punch babies or children. (Ultimately only the gospel of Jesus Christ has the power to deliver one from sexual immorality and behavior including effeminacy; )

Transcript of his original statement:

"So your little son starts to act a little girlish when he is four years old and instead of squashing that like a cockroach and saying, “Man up, son, get that dress off you and get outside and dig a ditch, because that is what boys do,” you get out the camera and you start taking pictures of Johnny acting like a female and then you upload it to YouTube and everybody laughs about it and the next thing you know, this dude, this kid is acting out childhood fantasies that should have been squashed.
Can I make it any clearer? Dads, the second you see your son dropping the limp wrist, you walk over there and crack that wrist. Man up. Give him a good punch. Ok? You are not going to act like that. You were made by God to be a male and you are going to be a male. And when your daughter starts acting to Butch you reign her in. And you say, “Oh, no, sweetheart. You can play sports. Play them to the glory of God. But sometimes you are going to act like a girl and walk like a girl and talk like a girl and smell like a girl and that means you are going to be beautiful. You are going to be attractive. You are going to dress yourself up.”
You say, “Can I take charge like that as a parent?”
Yeah, you can. You are authorized. I just gave you a special dispensation this morning to do that."

Transcript of his original statement:

Look, I don't care what the context was for his statements (Although I do admit I was somewhat bothered by the lack of one), what he said can only be taken as, at best, bigoted, sexist, and utterly heteronormative.

re: #67 Unlike Some People

I don't know why you think that. If you think that the formal use of "in the year of our Lord" is any less secular than AD, I think you are fantasizing.

Kinda reminds me of the people arguing that the symbol denoting a date of death in encyclopedias is a dagger and not a cross, so it shouldn't offend Muslims or Jews.

It's simply another way that Christianity is deeply woven into the entire culture of the Christian world. I wouldn't say that "AD" is secular, it's simply used in a secular way because if we didn't, we'd have to use that bizarre calender the French revolutionaries put together.

What I actually dislike deeply is "BCE", "CE". Cool, we will still start history from Christ's birth, but we will call it something else to make it sound more inclusive and shit. I use it, but I don't have to like it.

My son loves Twitter, but he's 15. I think most of the stuff on there matches his maturity level pretty well.

It depends on how you use it. Twitter has a lot of reach in terms of business in terms of getting a conversation going about your product or service, or in getting traffic to a site or whatever, but it's not an easy road to navigate. Most users are savvy enough to know when they're being sold to and it's extremely easy to lose the plot of your conversation to others.

She added that she's been afraid of her son for some time, but did her best to guide him.

"I've tried to minister him, just talk to him and say, 'Josh these people are going to get you into some really bad stuff.'"

His mother said that she took Stafford to and from Occupy movements and that her son was a self-proclaimed anarchist.

"He felt like [with Occupy Cleveland] he was part of a group, something bigger than himself." She describes her son as being violent, at times abusive.

re: #98 Killgore Trout

Well, It looks like my prediction about the end of OWS might be wrong. Early reactions seem relatively positive. Lefty blogs seem unbothered by the terrorism and the national MSM is reporting even the more violent protests in Seattle and Oakland as "mostly peaceful" but local press is a bit more unkind. Crowd sizes were respectable. Looks like OWS may continue.

Occupy Oakland has simply become a rallying point for a loose coalition of folks ranging from normal community activists to baby wannabe anarchists who would have made Emma Goldman lose her lunch, with a lot of more sinister people packed in.

They have no control, and they have no taste. They've become other people's rallying cry.

Here, it's basically over, unless they can come up with a new schtick. Trashing small businesses on May Day does not count as a schtick. The Black Bloc does that just sort of reflexively.

Elsewhere in the country I do not know.

re: #102 lawhawk

Anarchists are not interchangeable with OWS. Some anarchists might be using OWS as cover, but not all OWS are anarchists.

It's a significant distinction.

Its sort of not, unless OWS can find ways in which to distinguish themselves and their agenda from the people clustering around them.

It could happen, but not, I'm going to guess, in the Bay Area.

I'll just call it advocating for child abuse and move on. My kids grew up doing kid stuff. My son loved to skip and pick flowers when he was little, and my daughter loved to read and play with books and stuffed animals, but wasn't ever into dolls. Both my kids loved the toy kitchen and fake food.

Both are now happy, well adjusted teenagers. Shockingly, neither is homosexual...of course if one was, I wouldn't care.

But this guy is preaching child abuse and probably influencing a lot of parents to mistreat young children for acting like young children.

Assault with a deadly instrument!
Police Looking for Man Who Hit Officer With a Drum

The suspect stepped past the officer then swung what appears to be a metal snare drum into the back of her head. The suspect then “disappeared into the crowd,” Smith said. "But what a despicable act, for someone to pick the smallest officer out there and hit her from behind with a drum."
Police Chief Charlie Beck plans to address the incident at a 3 p.m. press conference today. The suspect is wanted for assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, Smith said.

With bonus bomb threat....

There was one arrest Downtown, of a 34-year-old woman who allegedly made a false bomb threat outside the Bank of America at Seventh and Figueroa streets, said Lt. Paul Vernon.
After the Bomb Squad determined that the woman did not have a bomb, she was arrested. Bail is set at $20,000.

Wife Of NC Amendment One Supporter: Husband Wrote Bill To Preserve ‘Caucasian Race’

The wife of a sponsor of North Carolina’s Amendment One, a proposed change to the state’s constitution that would ensure legal recognition only for marriage between a man and a woman, reportedly offered an eyebrow-raising explanation for her husband’s support of the measure.

Jodie Brunstetter, the wife of state Sen. Peter Brunstetter (R), has found herself embroiled in controversy after suggesting that her husband’s role in writing the bill — which passed the Republican-controlled general assembly last fall — was racially motivated.

According to the alternative Yes! Weekly, which picked up the remarks from freelance journalist and activist Chad Nance, Jodie Brunstetter told a poll worker in Winston-Salem, N.C. Monday that the reason her husband “wrote Amendment 1 was because the Caucasian race is diminishing and we need to uh, reproduce.”

Supposing this were a thing that needed to be done, how is this bizarre? Let me count the ways:
1) There are obviously no non-heterosexual non-whites.
2) Obviously, additionally illegalizing gay marriage will make all homosexual people enter heterosexual marriages, since life-long unmarried people do not exist.
3) Obviously, all heterosexual marriages result in children.

Jesse Nesbitt, Accused Occupy Brick-Tosser, Previously Arrested for Bottle-Tossing

Nesbitt, 34, was arrested yesterday and booked for felony aggravated assault among other charges following the alleged brick-tossing escapade. If he is indeed the man who winged a heavy object at a city employee, it apparently isn't the first time. Back in November, a 34-year-old Jesse Nesbitt was arrested after allegedly flinging a bottle at a Department of Public Works employee steam-cleaning the occupied bocce ball courts, and informing the worker that "You are not coming in here."

Police claim Nesbitt admitted to hurling the bottle at the DPW employee, stating that occupiers could do their own cleaning up. He was booked on assault charges and for an outstanding warrant for an undisclosed transgression.

Except of course I made no such claim. What I said is that your claim of no deference is false.

Which is false. There is no "deference".

You're forced to use this system which can never be entirely secular due to its roots, so you're showing deference in any case.

So, no purity = deference. Gotcha.

You're counting from this date and not from any other date whether you like it or not, and this date has purely religious roots.

No, it is not "purely religious".

So the aim is not to achieve some super-secular solution, but to use the sufficiently neutral language.

Yeah, and your criteria are way off.

Uh, no, in no way it is equivalent to use "AD" and to spell out the whole middle version (or even just to spell out the abbreviation). You once again ignored the fact that word usage matters.

I did not ignore it at all. I explicitly and specifically called that usage conventional ignorance, one which, btw, you seem to like in this case, for some weird reason. Other than for this factor (which you haven't sufficiently demonstrated, btw), there is no difference.

It matters e.g. whether one writes "BC" or insists on spelling out "before Christ". "The medium is the message". The middle version is not anywhere as common as AD. You will see even atheists using AD/BC, but hardly the middle version.

And it's bullshit windowdressing.

Except it's the same as saying "in the year of our Lord", since that Lord (and God) is Jesus. So you insist that AD and the middle version have the same meaning, but object to explicit unpacking the middle version, which makes my point.

You don't seem to understand the difference between an acronym and an omission. Fine by me. Doesn't "make your point", however.

Also, you're being inconsistent, and thus disingenuous, not to mention willing to engage in name-calling over smallest things.

I didn't call you a name anywhere. And no, I wasn't being inconsistent nor disingenious. You just seem to have trouble comprehending what I wrote and you seem to play dumb.

BTW, "the year of our Lord Jesus Christ" is listed as an alternative form of "the year of our Lord".

That's nice.

Except that's not what CE denotes at all. CE is just a fig leaf over AD anyway.

You must be intentionally obtuse. That is what I said.

re: #226 SanFranciscoZionist

It's simply another way that Christianity is deeply woven into the entire culture of the Christian world. I wouldn't say that "AD" is secular, it's simply used in a secular way because if we didn't, we'd have to use that bizarre calender the French revolutionaries put together.

What I actually dislike deeply is "BCE", "CE". Cool, we will still start history from Christ's birth, but we will call it something else to make it sound more inclusive and shit. I use it, but I don't have to like it.

Atheists are just mad that they don't have any tradition that dates back thousands of years.

That's a plain lie, so you can continue to play your silly gotcha game alone.

Seriously? I'm not mad. I could care less about make believe dates and years. Personally I refuse to date anything AD, CE, EIEIO. It's 2012 and that works for me.

Don't bother. Projection.

You may demonstrate where I called you a name. Otherwise I would prefer you stop making false claims about me, thank you.

Hey, it's fine. If I was too broad there with my statement, too bad. I was obviously refering to cranky atheists who are bent on making it an issue whether it's better to pretend that AD, Anno Domini, or CE refers less to Jesus Christ than the other ones, involving unsubstantiated claims about securalization qua usage.

Not a Christian or Theist myself, btw.

Also known as the "I know what you are but what am I" defense. Pathetic.

That's your response to a simple explanation of your obviously false "Atheists are just mad that they don't have any tradition that dates back thousands of years" statement, which you also quite obviously made while being mad about something, thus it being a case of projection? Pathetic.

Oh spare me. I don't care for your excuses for "You are being very intellectual dishonest if", "you are being disingenious" not being name-calling, which it is in my book, since it needlessly impugns my honesty and integrity out of the blue. (I don't care about the first one being a conditional too, since it's uncalled for even if the condition held true: there are other explanations beyond intellectual honesty and dishonesty (and "very" one at that), yet you intentionally chose the worst one).

I enjoy an occassional verbal bullshit sparring as much as the next guy. But dude, that chip on your shoulder, wherever it came from - you gotta get rid of it before we ever engage in productive conversation again. You took a bullshit banter that was not even about any fundamental issues and turned it into a war of words, starting with mildly hostile "fantasizing", and escalating it beyond measure (not without my help, but I'm usually obliging in such matters). I don't know why, but I know I don't enjoy receiving such invective from an otherwise supposedly friendly source over things that don't really matter.
