Mitt Romney Meets the Wingnuts

Esquire’s Charles Pierce on Mitt Romney’s meeting with right wing media and wingnut bloggers like Dan Riehl: In Which Mitt Romney Charms the ‘Base’.

It seems that they rolled out the Romneybot 2.0 for a meeting with some of the true conservative cognoscenti, intelligentsia, and pudding-fondlers. OK, all things considered, I can see him having to meet with the crew from NRO or even Human Events. But, god help us, this guy? Or this guy? Corndog and Buttmissile from Minnesota? These are the people you have to charm to be the Republican nominee? If this meeting wasn’t held in a belfry, I’m going to be the most disappointed guy in town.

If I post a bunch of stoopid racist shite on a website somewhere, can I rub noses with Romney too?

If I post a bunch of liberal propaganda on a website somewhere, can you promise that I"ll NEVER have to rub anything with Romney?

Charles Pierce's "Idiot America: How Stupidity Became a Virtue in the Land of the Free" is one of the most entertaining things I've read recently, and I highly recommend it. He writes well, and with a particular sense of humor that I admire a lot.

However, it's "entertaining" in the sense that something as unimaginably destructive as a mushroom cloud could be called "beautiful". Sometimes you laugh because that's all you can do.

Well, the chapter on the Terri Schaivo business wasn't entertaining. I'd forgotten just how depraved that whole episode was.

Another example of moderate Mitt moving towards the center.

Romney is pretty optimistic that this group won't be involved in anything this year that he'll have to distance himself from.

Every time I think of Mitt's ability to evolve a position, I think of electric tabletop football.

To take one GOP lesson to heart, I won't vote for any republican based on the fact it would enable the whackjobs at other levels of government.

No, what's really terrible is an electric football set that has been crushed under the weight of other things for decades so that the surface is now concave. If you thought it worked badly before, you won't believe how it is when all the players just sort of slide towards the center of the field.

Its got to be at least as entertaining as a real NFL game.

Anti-Tank Grenades Found At Ariz. Neo-Nazi Massacre Site

Six anti-tank grenades designed to be fired from a launcher were discovered on Wednesday at the scene of a horrific Arizona mass murder-suicide, which authorities said was carried out by well known white supremacist JT Ready.

The discovery helped expand the probe of the killings to the federal level and has led investigators with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to begin looking into how Ready was able to obtain the illegal explosives, according to ATF special agent Tom Mangan.

Mangan described the bombs as 40mm armor-piercing projectile grenades, the same type used by the U.S. military in combat. The grenades are generally fired from some sort of launcher, but Mangan said no such weapon was found at the scene.

The wingnuts are a problem, but not as much as the Paultards could be if Mittens isn't careful:

Ron Paul’s Delegate Antics Could Spell Trouble For GOP Convention

If Paul can secure a plurality of delegates in just five states, they can try to nominate him from the convention floor in accordance with the convention rules — potentially providing an embarrassing distraction just at the moment the party is supposed to unify on the public stage. According to Josh Putnam, a professor of political science at Davidson College and expert on delegate procedures, Paul’s supporters should “easily” reach that threshold with likely pluralities in Minnesota, Massachusetts, Colorado and Iowa, in addition to Louisiana. And that could just be the tip of the iceberg.

Scott Walker Blames Labor Protests for Job Losses, Boasts of 'Pro-Women' Policies

Walker boasted of supporting “pro-patient, pro-women” policies. However, Walker made it more difficult for women seeking justice as a result of pay discrimination lawsuits by repealing provisions of the Equal Pay Enforcement Act, made it more difficult for women seeking an abortion and birth control, and defunded Planned Parenthood, which “cuts off 12,000 women who do not have health insurance from getting preventive health care” and hurts a program that saved the state money by focusing on preventative care.

Walker: In our state it is today, and will continue to be as long as I am governor, against the law for any employer to discriminate against a woman for employment or a promotion or anything else to deal with the workplace. It has been and it continues to be and it will be as long as I am the governor. They just love trying to make things out of nothing out there. When it comes to the pro-life legislation we passed, I would argue the things that we did are pro-women.

They’re pro-patient, they’re pro-women, they’re making sure that patients get all the facts at their disposal. And for those who claim to be about giving people a choice, shouldn’t it be an informed choice? Shouldn’t it be a choice without pressure from others out there?

Nothing would be funnier than to see Mittens spend the summer treating Ron as being of no consequence...and the the Paulians staging a coup on the floor of the convention.

In the GOP it's the far right side of the field they're sliding into.

The entire right blogosphere would explode if that happened.

I doubt it will, since the RNC will do everything in its power to prevent a coup from the floor from happening, but if a bunch of Paultards want to try and nominate him from the floor I'd laugh.

Scott Walker Blames Labor Protests for Job Losses, Boasts of 'Pro-Women' Policies

The polls as of yesterday have Walker in a statistical dead heat with Barrett, with a week to go before the primary. It's already got him out there telling folks that if he gets removed from office, or if the state GOP lose their legislative majority, it will spell doom for the state.

Border Vigilante Group On Extremist Reportedly Involved In Mass Murder-Suicide: ‘God Bless You’

While Ready’s most prominent past supporter, former Arizona Senate President Russell Pearce distanced himself from Ready after his association with the neo-Nazi became widely known, a border vigilante group he helped found called the U.S Border Guards expressed their condolences and said he would be sorely missed. A message posted on their website today read, “God bless you, J.T. You will be fiercely missed:”

Other activists of the same far-right ideological ilk as ready expressed a mix of denial and conspiracy theorizing. As the Southern Poverty Law Center’s blog reports:

In general, the theories surrounding Ready’s death follow a few expected narratives: that Ready was killed by drug smugglers; that Jews running the federal government had come calling; even that Ready was acting in self-defense when he was killed. Whatever the flavor of conspiracy, it’s not surprising that Ready’s death should garner such a response. He was a darling of the movement – a well-spoken and husky presence on the border, almost always armed as if he were going to war.
