Breitbart Blogger Dan Riehl on the Trail of a Bombshell Obama Photoshop Phraud

This looks shopped, I can tell from some of the pixels
Wingnuts • Views: 48,567

Today, breitbart.com ace blogger Dan Riehl tweeted the latest conspiracy theory to hit the wingnut blogosphere:

The link goes to “Pundit Press,” where “Aurelius” is analyzing the pixels in a photo tweeted by the White House…

The Kenyan impostor can’t slip such an obvious fake past the “I AM BREITBART” army, of course.

“Aurelius” zooms in on his screenshot of this tweet (which measures, by the way, 471 x 318), and discovers … yes, the dreaded PIXELLATION! Proof of photoshop doctoring!

Why would the President want to fake a photo like this? Well, that’s not what Aurelius is interested in - he’s just asking questions!

Note the pixelation that occurs around the entirety of the President’s head. Such deterioration does not exist anywhere else (at least so obviously) in the photo. Also note Mr. Obama’s oddly large eyes. Additionally, President Obama is inexplicably looking upward, unless his target is sitting somewhere in the cheap seats 100 yards away. …

So, is this picture doctored? It’s up to you to decide. However, the fact that the White House may have altered a picture of the President throwing a football speaks to how despereate [sic] they are to perfectly manicure his public image.

Rather than post a lesson in how JPEG compression works and why a freaking screenshot of a low res image on Twitter would be expected to have exactly those kinds of compression artifacts, which would be wasted effort, I’ll just direct any wingnuts who really want to search for an EXCLUSIVE BOMBSHELL SCOOP to the original photograph from the White House in their Flickr photostream, at a resolution of 4000 x 2760. (h/t: Gus.)

At the top of this post is a somewhat zoomed-out clip of the section in question, saved at fairly high quality. Happy pixel-hunting!

Who's to say that Obama wasn't just whirling around like an out of control android on that playing field and they photoshopped the ball in to make him look normal? Also the man standing on the left is the wrong size

21 simoom  Mon, May 21, 2012 4:49:04pm

I'm guessing this explains the photo BTW. From the twitpic caption:

President Obama throws a football @soldierfield after the @NATO dinner in Chicago

And from Pres. Obama's press conference this evening:

[Link: abclocal.go.com...]

President Obama said he "could not have been prouder" of his hometown. He's sending NATO attendees home with a few mementos.

"We gave each leader a Bean, a small model for them to remember, as well as a football from Soldier Field. Many of them did not know what to do with it," Obama said. Obama took world leaders down on to the grass of Soldier Field and some visited Millennium Park's Cloudgate sculpture, commonly referred to as The Bean.

A demonstration? :P

[edit: looks like the Official White House Photographer, Pete Souza took it, whose almost always about snapping up candid photos for the flickr feed]

re: #15 Be Zorch, Daddio

I think the preferred term among wingnuts is "Pundit"

It's such a joke. At first they were just bloggers. Suddenly they became pundits and now many of them are either calling themselves reporters or journalists. On the last two they rarely if ever have the credentials, education or experience in the fields. More importantly they are not even remotely engaged in real journalism or reporting. Copying and pasting what you see at Michelle Malkin's site does not make one a reporter. They remind me of these religious nuts that just start calling themselves reverend. It's a bit of a scam really.

24 ReamWorks SKG  Mon, May 21, 2012 4:52:48pm

It's such a great portrait. The White House employs some very talented photographers.

You'd have to be an idiot to find fault with a portrait of the President of the United States for political reasons. Can't you just appreciate it on its aesthetic merit?

31 BongCrodny  Mon, May 21, 2012 4:56:44pm

Dear Dan,

The nation owes you a debt of gratitude for the tireless work you and like-minded patriots have done in your relentless drive to prove how unfit for office this President is.

Thanks to you, I now believe that Obama is a James Bond villain and the Antichrist. Everything he has ever done in his life, every place he has ever visited, everyone he has ever crossed paths with -- there isn't a single thing Obama has ever done since day one (and I'm talking August 4, 1961, not January 20, 2009) that hasn't been marked with suspicion and sinister underpinnings.

Thanks to you, I am now convinced that Obama is worse than Mao, Mussolini, Machiavelli, Moriarty, Mordred, Marx, Michael Myers and Ming the Merciless rolled into one. It is more than obvious that Obama is merely paving the road for the day when he leads his master, the Infernal Lord of Hell, straight to the Oval Office.

Thanks to you, I anxiously read great newspapers like the New York Post and Washington Times searching for the clues that will prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that Obama takes his marching orders from the Mad Mullahs, Occupy Wall Street and the Gay Agenda.

Thanks to you, I now know that if Obama is elected to a second term, he will simultaneously bring about Nuclear Winter, Global Warming and a Socialist Paradise.

There, I said it. Are you happy now? Now that I am on record as formally agreeing with everything that you write, will you go far, far away until, say, 2012?

And then when you and your fellow true believers come back in four years dragging Rick Santorum's sorry ass as the standard-bearer of what used to be the proud Grand Old Party, I promise I'll say the same thing about Hillary.

Of course, if naming such buffoons, we must not forget the leader of the Stalkers, whose original handle was 'Trajan', soon after mocked as 'Twadjie'. Here and later on the 'Blogmocracy', he called/calls himself Rodan, though on the site reserved solely to hate on Charles and LGF, he calls himself Daedalus, which I have come to mock as 'Dorkus'.

Looking at it, about 24 km W of Sofia.

So Sofia just got clocked. But it didn't happen near Turkey, which could have been a catastrophe. Because Istanbul has alot of unauthorized construction. An earthquake of strength there would be catastrophic. Also, the elderly monuments could have trouble.

It's not just the unauthorized construction, its the ability of builders to avoid earthquake safety standards. Los Angeles would be far less damaged by a significant quake, because the rules are enforced and builders who do skirt them can be sued. In Turkey, the courts are corrupt, which means that well-connected builders simply skate without punishment.

That should be at best the 3rd thing. The first thing is to demand that the Greek government open up the 'closed professions' (which includes lawyers and taxi drivers). This should simply demanded of Greece as an ultimatum, with ending of bailout the consequence of defiance. Th object of this would be to force Greece to truckle under to a reasonable demand, and the humiliation it would entail is deliberate. From the movie Head Office:

Max Landsberger: Since the 1984 oil discovery in New Guinea, we have sold the Bu!kais hill tribesmen 20 of our S-24 fighters. At $21 million per unit, that's $252 million. This has started a local arms race between the Bu!kais, and their local neighbors the Kla!klalas. Now the Kla!klalas also happen to be sitting an a large amount of oil. And now the Kla!klalas want to buy 20 of our new Slash X-Ray Ultra Pursuit fighters for a total of $480 million.

Pete Helmes: What are the chances of war between them?

Bob Nixon: Very good sir. Our spare parts replacement contracts could be very lucrative.

Pete Helmes: Who trains their flight personnel?

Max Landsberger: Well, as near as we can assess it... well, they don't actually fly the planes. They sort of roll them down hills, crashing them into each other.

Scott Dantley: Personally, I think that it's a shameful waste of incredible kill power.

Pete Helmes: Make the deal.

Bob Nixon, Scott Dantley: Absolutely.

I love this.

Pyrrhic Victory for Foes of a New Lucasfilm Project

...after spending years and millions of dollars, Mr. Lucas abruptly canceled plans recently for the third, and most likely last, major expansion, citing community opposition. An emotional statement posted online said Lucasfilm would build instead in a place “that sees us as a creative asset, not as an evil empire.”...

If the announcement took Marin by surprise, it was nothing compared with what came next. Mr. Lucas said he would sell the land to a developer to bring “low income housing” here.

“It’s inciting class warfare,” said Carolyn Lenert, head of the North San Rafael Coalition of Residents.

Mr. Lucas said in an e-mail that he only wanted “to do something good for Marin,” waving away accusations of ulterior motives...

I've heard some good things about the noise reduction on the German Subs. We should at least keep them to poke at them and see if we can learn something.

And, I would think about selling them to the Philippines and Vietnam. They are already having trouble with the PRC. Especially the Philippines.

The thing is that those nations don't have programs to train submarine crews, nor submarine bases (Taiwan has both). They also have serious corruption problems, and the subs tech might thus find its way to China, thus turning the whole exercise into a Chinese victory.

He was saying that it might not be the wisest plan and might not play well with the public. What he failed to account for was his criticism served as a better parry than the tactic he was criticizing. His apology tour is a little too little too late. Forced apologies always stink. Right now, the people of those 'closed professions' are proud beyond their station, as is Greece as a while. The nation must learn its place, then we can talk about giving them concessions.

It's not a lack of empathy, I understand how they feel. But I also think they've got a bad attitude and they need an adjustment. They are a sovereign nation, so it would not be right to use actual force to try to impel that adjustment, but there is nothing illegal about requiring that a genuine change be made before they are given any more money. It can be demanded in a non-hostile fashion, but it should be demanded, IMO. Instead of a ultimatum, it should given something like "If we are to keep funding you, we need a sign that you are serious about reform." My original comment said no such thing because it meant what it said. I've changed my mind since writing it. I've also calmed down since my Air Conditioning is working again.

As for the attitude adjustment part, I don't think that problematic. It's my right to say that I think someone else has a bad attitude, its not putting on lofty airs. It's saying "You need to correct your thinking or you'll keep hurting yourself".

OMG, a couple of Dems--Booker and Ford--disagreed with Obama...and they're black!

Maybe we should all rewind 3 months and put this in some context: Gingrich, Santorum and Perry (not exactly socialists) accused Mitt of "vulture capitalism" and "predatory capitalism", among other things. We all knew at that point that the Dems would most surely use the same line of attack later on in the race.

Booker's a medium sized city mayor, Ford's a cable news commentator...so what?...there are plenty of other surrogates in the party, of all races, genders, etc. who are actually more equipped to persuasively and articulately help Obama make his argument about Bain.

Agreed. And it's infected a significant minority, if not an outright majority, of your party.

Only 20% of your fellow Republicans in TX think Obama was born in America.
Same thing through most of the South among GOPers. Also true among Republicans in the rest of the country, though the numbers aren't as lopsided.

Point is: it's not just Riehl and Limbaugh and 5 other assholes on the radio/internet. It's a poisoned culture that now dominates the GOP in some regions and at least has a strong influence nearly everywhere else.

re: #267 Dark_Falcon

My original comment said no such thing because it meant what it said.

It's true that there are several structural problems in Greek society, but one of the most major is shared in many places - an entrenched elite upper class fed by a government that is at turns either corrupt and complicit or deliberately hobbled by the powers that be. These elite forces profit off of graft from public spending, exemplified in the German submarine fiasco mentioned upthread:

“We paid double for three submarines from Germany,” says an Athenian source who has lodged several incriminating documents with The Slog. Most of this, once again, seems to involve the near-ubiquitous role in German engineering and arms supplies of the multiply corrupt company Ferrostaal. Looking at the numbers, some of this appears to have been German profiteering connected to payoffs: “we give you 3 million euros, you lets us stuff the invoice with another 20 million” and so forth. And always in this farrago of filled pockets lurks the presence of numerous company acronyms MFI, MIE (Marine International), PDM, Zelan etc….all odd joint ventures and often registered in Liberia or Cyprus. All of them have obvious attachments to Greek elite members, and most of them in turn have connections to civil service procurement officers and/or senior politicians.

Compounding this is rampant tax dodging, endemic through all layers of society:

Tax dodging in Greece is so rampant that the Bank of Greece estimates the country could be losing as much as five billion euros a year. While that's a far cry from the €54 billion needed for 2010, it could result in much harsher cuts as the country tries to get out from under its crushing debts.

Also Greece's retirement age is the lowest in the EU and Eurozone, which the German psyche simply can't look at as anything other than an insult.

At the same time the Germans should have a sense of the past, and the rise of the far right in Greece should reinforce a lesson they learned in the aftermath of World War I. Forcing unsustainably huge debt payments and austerity is what the Allies did to Germany in the Treaty of Versailles, and all that did was foster hatred and resentment creating a perfect incubator for national socialism.

re: #295 wheatdogg

Well, good thing it wasn't him kicking a European football. All hell would break loose.

Yeah, Obama probably won't be going back to Berlin to make a huge speech in front of cheering crowds of Europeans. Funny thing about that speech: it made him more popular in the rest of the world, but had a different impact here, such is the US's paradoxical relationship with Europe.

On one hand, many Americans, particularly conservatives, are effusive with their praise of European contributions to culture, religion, etc, sometimes even bleeding into white supremacy. OTOH, many Americans now see the Euros as a bunch of lazy welfare queens who are now insufficiently warlike and have been pussified by liberal values.

re: #297 goddamnedfrank

I see your point, but avoiding that does mean that reforms have to be insisted upon. The difference between this situation and the Wiemar Republic is that Greece is getting its bills paid by other nations. Those nations do, I think, have the right to tie those monies to reform, so that they do not simply have shell out money without end.

Weirdly, but Kim Kardashian's family bears that out. She and her elder sister are fairly short, but their half-sisters Kendall and Kylie (Kim's mothers daughters with Bruce Jenner) are considerably taller. The younger two also have the long legs you might expect to see on the children of an Olympic gold medalist runner's offspring.

The wee one is doing really well right now, he's incredibly aware and curious.

I'm not sure what your other question is though, unless it's about the idea a woman's ova are actually from the mother. Or are you talking about mitochondria?

Both concern DNA. Where did the question come up?

Mitochondria from the mother is the only mitochondria that survives, the father's usually gets destroyed. That's why mitochondrial DNA is used to trace back to our last common female ancestor (usually called Eve).

aurelius updated his hardhitting expose with this gem:

Update: An intrepid commenter posted a link to a better quality image of Mr. Obama throwing the football. It proves that the photo was probably not doctored, but simply staged (poorly).

The link takes us to White House flickr photostream linked above here. Note that he didn't bother to either spike the post or rewrite it to reflect the obvious fact that HE WAS WRONG. No, instead he adds a wussy update to the bottom of the story.

So, will Dan Riehl also update his drivel? I kinda think not.
