Vetting Themselves: Breitbart Gang in Yet Another Ridiculously Massive Fail

Their own founder declared he was “proud to be a teabagger”
Wingnuts • Views: 29,809

OK, I’m now nearly convinced that the breitbart.com gang are just trolling the Internets with these mind-bogglingly ridiculous VETTING articles. I mean, nobody could possibly take this kind of absurd, over the top propaganda seriously, could they?

EXCLUSIVE - THE VETTING - BARACK OBAMA, THE FIRST TEA PARTIER.

Well, it may be damned hard to believe anyone could be this strange, but they really are serious about this stuff.

Breitbart blogger John Sexton’s EXCLUSIVE BOMBSHELL: a photo that’s been available to the public for 15 years, showing Barack Obama leading a Fourth of July parade in 1997, in a Revolutionary War era costume.

Sexton wants his audience to believe that the costume makes Obama exactly the same as a Tea Party member. Let the sheer stupidity of that one sink in for a minute.

The rest of Sexton’s hilarious derp-filled piece is basically an extended whine about those monstrous liberals who mocked the Tea Partiers by calling them “teabaggers.”

Monstrous liberals like, oh, for example, their founder Andrew Breitbart, who declared in May 2010 that he was Proud to Be a Tea Bagger.

A screenshot of Andrew Breitbart’s brave, forward-thinking declaration of teabaggishness:

Breitbart’s post still exists on the new breitbart.com, but oddly enough, they seem to have removed his byline from it: I’m Proud to Be a Tea Bagger.

Oh dear. I must be a Tea Party dupe as well. I looked in my kitchen and I have Revereware bowls. And we all know Paul Revere wore a tri-corner hat. So he must have been a Tea Party supporter and so must I.

Woe is me. All this time supporting Obama, Democrats and left-wing and progressive causes for nothing. How can I atone for my transgressions?

No more LGF for me. It's time to embrace my Obama hatting, right wing brothers and sisters. It's off to Fox News to leave some lefty-bashing words of wisdom.

This is a joke, right? Everyone is aware that us dirty hippy moonbats are perfectly okay with things like the Gadsden Flag, and in fact are irritated by the movement that almost completely co-opted that imagery? Not by the imagery itself?

For fuck's sakes, nobody's offended by the fact that CVN-65 flies the First Navy Jack, which dares to have a snake on it. OMG MILITARY SUPPORTS THE TEA PARTIES!!!1

Of course, there are some commenters to the "vetting" story complaining that President Obama isn't doing a proper job with the re-enactment, and should be wearing chains instead since slavery was still in force in the 1700s.

For the intended audience, it's not actually necessary for the article to make sense. The Conservative cult is heavily conditioned to respond with anger to certain words, and including those words is enough. Words like 'Obama', 'United Nations', 'liberal', 'media', and so on. It's Pavlovian politics.

29 jaunte  Wed, May 23, 2012 4:07:33pm

Breitbarters apparently can't distinguish between wearing an 18th century costume and supporting 18th century policies.

30 Mattand  Wed, May 23, 2012 4:08:15pm

This is the third Vetting article I've read. They're becoming less coherent with each new post. The majority of this one is a massive whine that they can't describe themselves with a term that has sexual connotations.

In addition, how is it hypocritical that Obama dressed like this 15 years ago? He would have literally have to known beforehand he would be elected President, and that a political group that hates him would dress like this.

Love the final paragraph complaining about juvenile insults from the left. Priceless.

WaPo runs a story just a bit ago about the surprise winner of DWTS:

‘Dancing With the Stars’: Donald Driver pulls out surprise win

And sure enough, the first comment:

Erskine41
4:11 PM PDT

It was no "surprise" that Driver got the affirmative action trophy while more talented contestants were robbed & side-lined. In fact, it was totally predictable.

This is what years of hatred brings - the inability to detach oneself from it. It becomes part of the person.

Fact is simply this: Driver had a couple of truly outstanding performances during the season, the best of which was his Freestyle, which just happens to be thought of as the most important dance of the season, and Driver's Freestyle was the best of the three on the night.

The other two contestant finalists were better dancers technically, but they were also quite understandably cover model types, beautiful, talented, but also seemed a bit too glamourous.

Driver seems like a "regular Joe" who happens to be an very well trained athlete.

And, as others have pointed out, he is the 7th athlete to win DWTS, out of 14 seasons.

Americans love their athletes, and during this season the clips that were shown portrayed Driver as someone who was very dedicated and working hard.

Anyway, there are many reasons why viewers would vote for Driver.

But the commenter at WaPo pulls out a race-war card.

New conservative mantra: "The real racists today are the blacks."

Then take a look at the comments on Yahoo, AOL, etc. on the Trayvon Martin case and what you'll find is a giant rebuttal to the quoted assertion above. There seems to be a fair amount of racially tinged commentary among the sizeable number of fervent Zimmerman supporters.

True, hitting the ground at or near terminal velocity is, well terminal. You're right, and the whole idea that Obama is the most divisive president in history is of a piece with this kind of commentary.

Obama hardly ever even talks about race, and on those rare occasions when he does it's usually to say something pretty tepid, like "If I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon."

The real divisiveness is another RW fantasy and motivated by the mere fact that Obama is PWB, President while Black. (and Muslim, Kenyan, etc.)

Looks like potassium deficiency.

I've been told they could possibly have been cross-pollinated with some squash. But I have no squash, and none of my neighbors do either (no one nearby, anyhow). I used plant food. Maybe too much?

Damn, What did you do to them? Lol. I'm not a cuke grower so I don't have a a whole lot of experience. I do know they're sensitive to overwatering so maybe try cutting back on the water.

Our America, 23 May 2012:

Science standards approved for schools

The first public draft of Georgia’s new science standards were made available for public comment last week, and one Carroll County church disapproves of some of its content.

The Next Generation Science Standards include ideas, practices and concepts that instruct students about natural selection and evolution. Students will learn about the evidence of adaptation and common ancestry and diversity.

Bob Staples, a member of Villa Rica Church of Christ, said he doesn’t think the teaching of evolution is good education.

“I ask that it be removed from the classroom because it is not actual science,” Staples said. “But that’s not going to happen; I know that.”

The church sponsors the Web page Christians4Science, which contains text and videos that reprehend the teaching of evolution in public schools.

“I like that they’re making the effort to improve science education,” Staples said. “My position on the teaching of evolution as a fact is that it needs to be critically analyzed. There are scientific problems with evolutionary principles.”

[...]

This talking point - that evolution isn't True Science - is one of the more absurd creationists murmurings. Yet it is quite popular to espouse.

I remember seeing teens doing it in a big beach parking lot on Marthas Vineyard about 30 years ago

We had a fun (dangerous) game we used to play here in PA in the winter. Bumper dragging. Hard sole shoes, snow covered parking lot, 3-5 guys holding the bumper trying to push the person(s) next to them off, who can hold onto the bumper of the car longest while skating on the snow with your shoes. There were a few sprained ankles and sore elbows.

I do know that the same guy that invented the train engine in England invented a long glass tube for forcing cucumbers to grow in a straight shape; it may be that their natural shape is more gourdlike, and that's it.

But you say they don't taste like cucumbers either? What variety are they?

We used to do the school buses (spent a few hours in detention the few times caught, ooops). You had to remember to bail before hitting the open street at the end of the school drive. Of course that turned into a contest to see who could ride it out the farthest. Good times, I'd probably break a hip if I tried that now.

Well, some cucumbers are specifically made for pickling into pickles, and I'm not sure how they taste as cucumbers. That might be what you got ahold of, or it's just some more wild variety.

They look neat though. Maybe try picklin' 'em. My wife pickled a peck of jalapeno peppers and they're my favorite thing in the world right now.

Meanwhile, in San Diego, the reality of austerity digs in:

One of Every Five Teachers to Be Laid Off at City Schools

[...]

The board voted 4-1 Tuesday night to approve sending final layoff notices to 1,534 employees, bringing those layoffs a big step closer to reality. Board Vice President Scott Barnett cast the dissenting vote, urging his colleagues to instead rescind the layoffs and send the district into insolvency and state takeover.

The vote, the latest move in a long process that began in March, showed the board isn’t backing down on its plan to start the next school year with more than 1,500 fewer teachers, counselors and nurses in city schools. The district says the layoffs are required to close a budget deficit of between $80 million and $122 million next year.

All but about 100 of the laid off workers are teachers. That means about 1,400 of the district's 7,000 teachers — or one of five — are slated to be let go.

[...]

This goes along with the trend ever since the 2008 recession - public employment (locally) is shrinking, and that is one reason why unemployment is still so high.

The point of racism is that you don't have to make judgements on behavior and character, you just make judgements about people living and breathing while black. His blackness is what agitates them, nothing he has actually said or done. Smart people get this, but half the country is stupid.

Well. My new ones should begin to grow within the next week. I'll see how they do. It could just be something odd about this particular variety in the growing conditions I've got them (in a large bucket on my patio). The seeds I bought are for some small cucumbers; maybe they'll do better.

Well, I've now been to the Great Shrine to the Great American Pastime. Nice place, but since I'm not a baseball fanatic I feel no desire to return. Timed it well since I got to park nearby, walk in, and not have to deal with crowds or much of anything. Took photos of a number of exhibits and a bunch of the player plaques.

Spent the rest of the day car touring rural central NY via US-20 and NY-5S. That included working far enough east to stop into Albany. Walked around the State Capitol, Empire State Plaza, and even down the hill to the Hudson River waterfront - where I got to tour a WW2-era destroyer escort (USS Slater).

Lunch was a stop in a roadside parking area to eat baquette with hummus and drink apple cider. New York cuisine all the way.

Also neat to be driving along US-5S near the Mohawk River and suddenly there's a church or other building there from the 1760s. The river itself is not so charming since it's essentially been turned into the New York State Canal. (Though I did cross the original 1819 "Clinton's Ditch" a few times as well. About a 12' wide swampy stream - but straight!)

Tomorrow's travels are still being planned. Saving Fort Stanwix and the Oriskany Battlefield Momument (both near Rome) for Friday morning before I head for points west.

Trainer filmed abusing horses banned from show for life

The ban stems from a practice called "soring" in which the front legs of a walking horses, known for their high stepping gait, are smeared with chemicals to induce pain and cause the horse to kick high in the show ring.

Last week, ABC news broadcast footage of a Tennessee Walking Horse being tortured by McConnell and employees to "teach" it to perform the award-winning high-stepping gait. The video was filmed by an undercover Humane Society activist.

After the broadcast, soft drink company Pepsi said it withdrew sponsorship of the Celebration, the annual grand championship of the walking horse industry.

McConnell was charged with 52 counts of transporting and showing abused horses but he reached an agreement with prosecutors to plead guilty to a single count. His plea was entered in court on Tuesday but still must be approved by a judge.

"This whole ban and all those things we did to Mr. McConnell is indicative of our thoughts about soring or any other abuse of horses," said Doyle Meadows, CEO of the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration.

McConnell will be removed from the Hall of Fame. All written and photo mentions of him will be removed and any horses he has trained will be banned, Meadows said.

WaPo runs a story just a bit ago about the surprise winner of DWTS:

‘Dancing With the Stars’: Donald Driver pulls out surprise win

And sure enough, the first comment:

May Donald Driver enjoy his DWTS win greatly, and may the Green Bay Packers get clobbered by the Chicago Bears come September.

I mock the Tea Partiers for being ignorant of American history in chossing their moniker. The original Tea Party was a revolt against taxation without representation, but the modern version of the Tea Party can not claim they their taxes were imposed by politicians who they did not have a chance to vote either for or against.

They were either too dumb or too lazy to help elect politicians who espoused their own views. So now they wrongfully adopt the taxation without representation battle cry.

City Journal's Steven Malanga takes on redistricting (and does not leave out Texas):

Redistricting Wars
The hidden story of the 2012 elections

Every ten years, after the U.S. Census releases its latest population reports, most of the 50 states begin the complicated process of drawing new election districts. As you might expect, partisan bickering and maneuvering inevitably distort things. So a decade ago, Arizona voters decided to end the partisanship by removing the redistricting process from the state legislature and placing it in the hands of an independent commission. Last year, the new commission, consisting of two Democrats, two Republicans, and a nonpartisan chair, got to work on its first set of maps after the 2010 census.

Unfortunately, the results were anything but nonpartisan. The independent chair sided consistently with the two Democrats, essentially giving them control over the makeup of the congressional and state legislative maps. Lawsuits were launched, along with a push by Arizona’s Republican governor, Jan Brewer, to impeach the chair. The new maps, if let stand, “could reshape the state’s political landscape” in the Democrats’ favor, the Arizona Republic reported. Already, state lawmakers are looking at doing away with the commission or significantly changing it.

Arizona isn’t alone. In many states, including those where reformers had tried to make the process less political, redistricting has already determined the outcome of this year’s races for Congress and state legislature. In part, blame naivety for the reformers’ failure: redistricting isn’t easily drained of partisanship. But federal election law—especially the Voting Rights Act, which mandates a certain amount of legal gerrymandering to reach preferred racial outcomes—shares some of the blame. Though some states are inching toward ways of carving out fairer, less politicized electoral maps, reform is slow, and scheming over election districts remains nearly as important as it ever was to politicians’ fortunes, the composition of state legislatures, and even control of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Controversy over redistricting is almost as old as America itself. The word “gerrymander,” which describes an oddly shaped district drawn to gain electoral advantage, first appeared in print on March 26, 1812, in the Boston Gazette. The paper used the term to describe a district in Essex County, drawn by Massachusetts’s ruling Democratic-Republican Party, that looked like a salamander. Governor Elbridge Gerry had signed into law an electoral map incorporating the strange district—hence the portmanteau word.

The point of racism is that you don't have to make judgements on behavior and character, you just make judgements about people living and breathing while black. His blackness is what agitates them, nothing he has actually said or done. Smart people get this, but half the country is stupid.

It's a sickening form of resentment I've had to hear my whole life, having lived so much of it in TX. A lot of whites actually think that blacks get "special rights" and overall live better than whites do. I think it's the kind of warped thinking that results when one group (reactionary white Christians in this case) loses even a small part of the dominance and privilege they grew accustomed to 30, 40, 50 years ago.

Mitt Romney and the GOP's War on Women..

They really hate public school teachers. To listen to Mitt et al talk, a typical kid would be better off with mama teaching them trigonometry across the kitchen table. Funny, but when politicians from the Tea Party/GOP attack teachers' unions for supporting things like seniority rights, job preferencing, and workplace safety they always leave out criticism for other unions that support similar initiatives such as the unions representing police officers, fire fighters, rail roads workers, truckers, road crews, etc.

They pick the only union with a majority of female members and single them out for all the nasty attacks.

But of course there is no Tea Party/GOP war on women.

No, you're not a wingnut. But you seem to think they're just a small fringe in your party, when that's far from the case. And your attempts to minimize their numbers and influence fly in the face of reality.

The AG of AZ (demanding Obama's birth cert until today) isn't some fringe militia doofus living in a white supremacist camp in Idaho. Neither is Jan Brewer, Gov of said state. Neither are the members of Congress and state legislatures who think Obama isn't a real American, real Christian, whatever.

It would help your case if the right really had few wingnuts with little power. But Limbaugh, Coulter, Malkin, Riehl, Trump, Savage, Beck, et al. are hardly marginal; on the contrary, they are mainstream. And they have incredible influence shaping public opinion. How else do you explain the huge numbers of your fellow Republicans who believe Dems are socialists and Obama has a Muslim-Kenyan worldview but no birth certificate?

I worked really hard on this --well, for me anyway. Can I share?

Please go "oooh, ahhh" Yes, it's Princess Dog and the Pheasant is one that is on our wall.

How is the evening going.

I've been enjoying creativity.

That .30-30 just might be the most Bubba'd out abortion of a firearm I've ever seen in my entire life. I know lever actions have taken a huge sales hit in the last few years but somehow I doubt that Call of Duty: Tactical Cowboy is the answer.

Hey, I grew up with .30-30s and still have a lovely lever action .44-40 which has never and will never let me down...multi-round clip semi-automatics are for poser pussies who don't know how to aim and shoot straight.

The more and more I listen to The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich by William Shirer, the more the GOP Whacko's sound like Nazi's.

Germany only for the Germans!

Listening to books is what I do while being creative.

Got thru many a book while quilting, beading, crocheting, wallpapering . . .

This is why EmmmieG's boys are not yet allowed to get it.

I bought it back early last year, when it was still in beta and thus half-price. Even back then, it was one hell of a time killer. But now, it's not only a full game, but the mods that are being built for it are like switching crack for pure cocaine.

I love lever actions too and collect Marlin 39-A's. But lever actions should have wood furniture and look like something your Grandfather might have used to put food on the table. God forbid you actually do have to shoot someone, which gun would you rather put in front of a jury, a nice farmhand looking Marlin 336 / Winchester 94 or that blackened tactical monstrosity with its three Picatinny rails?

'Tactical' is defensible, in its place, but when you 'tac-up' a gun that's clearly not meant to be 'taced-up' you end up looking like a particularly dumb kind of Rambo.

Obama was out golfing while the OBL mission was unfolding, and the administration needed the Situation Room photo op for public perception -- to give the illusion that he's presidential.

I think I remember that, didn't the president say "Now watch this drive".

Hola Lizards!

The job quest continues. I had my second interview at the company I want to work for. I made it through, and I've got what looks like one last follow up. I still have to meet the heads of two other teams, since it looks like my role would be a hybrid -- sales part of the time, including travel, and something else on top of that, such as business analysis or project management. We talked a lot about my translation skills, my experience with contracts, and my ability to read and write in Spanish, so I'm guessing they're leaning in a business analyst direction. I don't know.

The best I can tell, the recruiter wouldn't be setting up these meetings and they wouldn't be talking about follow up meetings if they didn't want me. There's just no immediately defined role ready so it's having to be carved out, hence the drawn out process.
