REPORT: Aaron Walker Arrested After Maryland Hearing on Kimberlin Case
Posted on | May 29, 2012 | 96 Comments and 409 Reactions

FROM AN UNDISCLOSED LOCATION
Aaron Walker, whose complaint against convicted terrorist Brett Kimberlin became a conservative cause célèbre this past week, was reportedly taken into custody today after a court hearing in Rockville, Maryland.

One person who attended the hearing in Montgomery County District Court said that Kimberlin asserted that Walker’s continued blogging represented a violation of a “peace order” Kimberlin had obtained against the Virginia attorney, who says Kimberlin tried to “frame” him for assault earlier this year.

During the course of the hearing — which reportedly lasted about an hour — Judge C.J. Vaughey appeared to become increasingly hostile toward Walker, who was taken into custody when the hearing concluded.

On Thursday, May 17, Walker published a 28,000-word account of his experience being targeted by Kimberlin, which soon caught the attention of leading figures in online New Media, including University of Tennessee law professor Glenn Reynolds, who writes the popular Instapundit blog, and bestselling author Michelle Malkin, who warned her readers, “Please remember: Kimberlin is a radical, violent, lying, dangerous felon.”

UPDATE: According to a source, Kimberlin claimed during the hearing that he has received death threats as a result of Walker’s violation of the peace order. In 1981, Kimberlin was sentenced to 50 years in federal prison for his crimes, including the 1978 terrorist bombing that brutally maimed Vietnam veteran Carl DeLong.

UPDATE II: A copy of the “final peace order” (time-stamped 10:52 a.m.) states that Kimberlin is “in fear of imminent serious bodily harm” as a result of a “countless number” of death threats, and that “there is clear and convincing evidence that [Walker] is likely to commit a prohibited act in the future against [Kimberlin].”

UPDATE III: To understand what is going on here, please see my column today at The American Spectator

Mitt Romney’s losing gamble on Donald Trump

"Donate today and you are eligible for a chance to win: Airport transportation in the Trump vehicle;” a “stay at the Trump International Hotel & Tower New York;” a chance to “tour the Celebrity Apprentice Boardroom;” and an opportunity to “dine with Donald Trump and Mitt Romney,” reads the message on the Romney campaign Web site.

But wait, there’s more! Romney will also join Trump tonight in Las Vegas at a fundraiser.

All of this Trump talk begs a simple question: Why is Romney associating himself with a man who is the public face of the debunked idea that President Obama wasn’t born in the United States and, perhaps more importantly, a man whose sole principle in life is self-promotion?

The Obama campaign quickly sought to make political hay out of the Trump-Romney connection.

“Mitt Romney’s continued embrace of Donald Trump and refusal to condemn his disgraceful conspiracy theories demonstrates his complete lack of moral leadership,:” said deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter. .”If Mitt Romney lacks the backbone to stand up to a charlatan like Donald Trump because he’s so concerned about lining his campaign’s pockets, what does that say about the kind of President he would be?”

The Romney team tried to downplay the Trump tie. “Governor Romney has said repeatedly that he believes President Obama was born in the United States,” said spokeswoman Andrea Saul. “The Democrats can talk about Donald Trump all they want — Mitt Romney is going to talk about jobs and how we can get our economy moving again.”

The argument forwarded by defenders of the Romney-Trump alliance is centered on two ideas: money and the base.

[Link: www.theblaze.com...]

The Blaze spoke to a clerk at the District Court of Maryland for Montgomery County who confirmed that Aaron Walker was in fact arrested following his hearing with Brett Kimberlin. According to the clerk, he was arrested on second degree assault charges that were previously filed by Kimberlin when Walker, following a separate court hearing, took and held at bay Kimberlin’s iPad. Other reports on the web indicate that Walker was instead arrested for violating the “peace order” for which he was appearing in court.

Shitty move. However at least "UNWTO said it had not appointed Mugabe to any formal position".

Also:

UNWTO, which has headquarters in Madrid, insisted that it had not awarded Mugabe an official title. Sandra Carvao, its co-ordinator of communications, said: "Correct would be to say UNWTO has presented both presidents with an open letter which calls for them to support tourism as a means to foster sustainable development in their countries to the benefit of their people and consequently ask them to support the sector in this respect."

She added: "UNWTO does not have an ambassadors programme and the receiving of the UNWTO/WTTC [World Travel and Tourism Council] open letter implies no legal commitment or title attribution to the country or the head of state or government in question."

Lots of people talking about how "street justice" needs to be applied to the judge and Kimberlin...or talking about how "unnamed ones" are going to get Kimberlin etc, along with comparisons between the "lefties" in the country and Nazi Germany.

So, if I understand, these people want to resort to street violence (just like the brown shirts in the Weimar Republic) while saying they are fighting the (oxymoronic) lefty Nazis.

I need a fucking Scotch after reading that.

63 Lord Baron Viscount Duke Earl Count Planckton  Tue, May 29, 2012 2:33:18pm

re: #57 sattv4u2

Well, this seems to be confirmed by an older item:

[Link: media.unwto.org...]

As part of the Global Leaders for Tourism Campaign, UNWTO and WTTC are jointly presenting heads of state and government around the world an Open Letter which calls on them to acknowledge tourism’s key role in delivering on sustained and balanced growth and to prioritize the sector high in national policies in order to maximize its potential. The Open Letter outlines Travel and Tourism’s value as one of the world’s largest generators of sustainable enterprises and decent jobs, a powerful driver of socio-economic growth and development and a key player in the transformation to the Green Economy.

It's a "campaign". One can ask whether it's wise to not be selective in who to invite for participation in the campaign. Still, it doesn't seem like a huge thing.

Possible Human Foot sent to Conservative Party Headquarters in Ottawa

Ottawa police are investigating after a suspicious package possibly containing a human foot was delivered to the Conservative Party of Canada's headquarters in the capital.

In a short news release, Ottawa Police said they were called to 130 Albert St. around 11:20 a.m.

"Upon arrival, officers noted that the (box) package possibly had blood stains on it," the news release said.

"The Hazmat Unit and Emergency Operations Section were called and upon further inspection of the package it was determined that there was possibly a human foot in the box."

Sgt. Steve Hodgson, who was at the scene, told The Canadian Press that a receptionist at the party's 12th floor offices had only partially opened the package before calling police.

"The initial package was opened and it was deemed suspicious," he said.

"It wasn't opened any further. It was our Hazmat Team that eventually took a look at it."

CTV's Richard Madan reported Tuesday evening that the 12th floor was put under lockdown and reporters were sent away from outside the party's headquarters.

Dirty Tricks In Wisconsin: Secret Group Shuts Down Phones Of Scott Walker’s Democratic Challenger With Spam Texts

One week before Wisconsinites vote on whether or not to recall Gov. Scott Walker (R-WI), a conservative group is engaged in dirty tricks that have shut down the Democratic challenger’s campaign phones.

According to multiple reports, independently verified by ThinkProgress, the following spam text message is being blasted out to many Wisconsin cell phones:

FRM:WI@obamasaliar.com
SUBJ:Union Puppet
MSG:Tom Barrett is a Union Puppet who will give Union Thugs everything they want. Call & ask why xxx-xxx-xxxx

The phone number is that of Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett’s campaign headquarters. The influx of calls following this spam text message has shut down phones at Barrett’s campaign, just seven days before Election Day and right as get-out-the-vote efforts are ramping up.

As someone said on on the JREF msg boards about troofers back when Loose Change first came out:

I wish the media would do this, and put it in those words exactly.

I'm beginning to lean that way myself, seeing as most of the non-political people I know tend ignore birtherism.

My only challenge to your statement is that the probable GOP POTUS nominee is openly embracing a celebrity birther, while making almost minuscule attempts to repudiate said birther. That, IMO, is worth a few news reports.

That will happen when the Stanley Cup Finals are played in Hell. However uncomfortable Romney may be with people like Trump as allies, he knows that if he were to ditch Trump, the nutjob right would ditch him, and his relationship with the right is already tenuous.

Romney's fate will be tied to people like Trump.

Vandals smash 1,600-year-old mosaic at synagogue in Tiberias, Israel

Vandals badly damaged a rare 1,600-year-old mosaic in the northern Israeli city of Tiberias that formed the floor of an ancient synagogue, smashing parts to rubble and scrawling graffiti, antiquity officials said Tuesday.

Experts suspect extremist Jews who object, sometimes violently, to excavations they claim involve ancient grave sites. There was no claim of responsibility. Police are investigating.

State-level GOP craziness gets more attention:

Another View - A letter to the good people of Iowa: Are you crazy?

Dear Iowa,

I used to think you were a pretty straight-ahead place, what with all that flat land and healthy vegetables and honest living. I mean, Iowans rejected slavery 20 years before the Civil War and they approved interracial marriage a century before the U.S. Supreme Court. Homosexuality was decriminalized almost 30 years before the 2003 Lawrence vs. Texas decision did so nationwide. Today, control of the state’s Legislature is split between Democrats and Republicans and, a few characters aside, it is not known for political extremism. Like the corn it produces in such copious amounts, Iowa generally seemed a healthy and sensible place.

That idea of the state ended for me last week when I read the proposed platform released by the platform committee of the Republican Party of Iowa.

Are you people totally insane?

The ethics, values, and decisions that a candidate makes during a national campaign is a reflection of the choices that he/she will make if elected.

The fact that Mitt can't see the folly in embracing Trump -- solely because he naively believes that The Donald can help him win in November -- is indicative of the poor judgement that is at the core of Romney's psyche.
