Video: IL State Rep. Mike Bost in Epic Freak-Out

Youtube Video

And now, I give you Illinois state Rep. Mike Bost (R-Murphysboro) in today’s moment of something that is definitely not Zen.

A YouTube video of state Rep. Mike Bost, R-Murphysboro, angrily screaming and throwing a ream of paper into the air on the Illinois House floor the other day has garnered more than 21,000 views so far.

(Warning: Some of what Bost says in the video is incomprehensible, but sounds like what could be pretty high-level obscenity.)

At issue was Bost’s claim that the floor rules imposed by the Democrat-run House were preventing Republicans from properly serving their constituents. It’s a bit of inside baseball, but worth watching for an indication of how frayed tempers have become in the final days of the legislative session.

Bill banning ‘sex-selective abortions’ fails in the House

A measure to ban abortions based on the sex of a child failed Thursday to earn enough support in the House, and abortion opponents said they plan to use the vote to paint Democrats as disingenuously supporting women’s rights because they voted against a bill protecting unborn baby girls.

Lawmakers voted 246 to 168 on the Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act (PRENDA), which would punish doctors with up to five years in prison for performing abortions because the parents are seeking a child of the other sex. But the bill failed to pass as House Republicans brought it up under a suspension of normal rules that required it to earn a two-thirds majority vote. Twenty Democratic lawmakers voted for the bill; seven Republicans voted against it.

The bill’s chief sponsor, Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.), said his legislation would help fight “a war on unborn little girls,” noting that roughly 200 million abortions around the world can be tied to the practice of “sex-selective abortions,” which are more common in Asian and Eastern European countries.

Ahead of the vote, the White House said President Obama opposed the bill because it would intrude on a women’s abortion rights and would be hazardous for doctors who perform abortions.

Downstate Lawmaker Screams, Throws Papers Over Pension Reform Bill

A state House pension reform bill endorsed by Gov. Pat Quinn and House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago) cleared a House committee Tuesday morning.

The bill would reduce annual cost-of-living increases for public employees, such as state workers, university staff and downstate teachers. It also gradually makes public schools and universities pay the cost of retirement benefits for their employees, as Chicago schools already do.

It would also shift pension costs for public schools from the state to local school districts, which would be forced to raise property taxes to fund pension costs that are now picked up by the state. That provision is not sitting well with some Republican and downstate Democratic lawmakers.

Or simply creating smoke that they can point at and yell "FIRE" about. This seems more the case - create a bill that is fairly trivial in scope but easily twisted to fit the desired narrative. Pretty much standard politics now, and was also done in the past. Certain facets of a relatively ignorant electorate never change.

AFA on NATO conference: "We are living in the last days"

This past weekend, there was a NATO conference, a summit, in Chicago. There was heightened security in ways we are not accustomed to here on American soil. Shoot to kill orders for any planes flying over Chicago this weekend. Evac orders on standby and the Red Cross being told that it might get violent and the City may have to be completely evacuated. We Americans are not used to having these European style tactics executed in our backyard. Many wonder if the government is up to something, like training for a larger, similar exercise in the future. At the risk of sounding like a doomsday prepper or a conspiracy theorists, let me say, “I wouldn’t be surprised at all if it were”. We are living in the last days and about those Paul said they would be perilous times. But we know how to pray, walk in faith, and trust in the name of Jesus! Our hope is real and it is NOT in man or NATO.

re: #40 WINDUPBIRD DISEASE [S.K.U.M.M.]

Much of my family is Mormon. Broad brush attacks on the religion offend me. There are more than 50,000 Mormons that are black. Some African American, some in Brazil...

From Wiki
However, the LDS Church has always had an open membership policy for all races, but few black people who were aware of the racial policy joined the church.[1] In 1978, church leaders ceased the racial restriction policy for black men, declaring that they had received a revelation instructing them to do so. Today's church opposes racial discrimination and racism.[2]

In 1997, there were approximately 500,000 black members of the LDS Church, accounting for about 5% of the total membership; most black members live in Africa, Brazil and the Caribbean.[3] Since 1997, the black membership has grown substantially, especially in West Africa, where two temples have been built.[4]

"Birther" is the "new 'N' word"

According to a Scottsdale gun-law author, the word "birther" is a derogatory term "equivalent of the 'N' word."

Perhaps it's not surprising to hear something a bit nuts coming from the author of After You Shoot: Your Gun's Hot. The Perp's Not. Now What?, but Alan Korwin actually got this on the East Valley Tribune and Arizona Republic websites.

"'Birther,' used by the media with impunity, is a derogatory slur, the equivalent of the 'N' word used for another group to cast them as sub-human," Korwin writes. "You apply this new 'N' word to a huge group of politically-active Americans who've raised legitimate questions on a legitimate topic."

Subtle master of subtle subtlety.

I have to say, I am amazed at the insight so many of you showed as you deciphered this painting. I have many subtleties hidden in this painting that have not been shared, but several of those were divulged in this Facebook contest. I think I will wait longer before I validate some of them. But, the contest’s purpose was to see who could be the first to hit at least four of the main symbols I was thinking of in the painting, “One Nation Under Socialism.” As I expected, some of our liberal friends jumped on at the end and had a little fun mocking the painting. I suppose it would be hilarious if it wasn’t so tragic.
My thanks to everyone who took the time to enter the contest.

Jamie Fitzgibbons is our winner! He wrote the following:

“1) the Constitution is crumbled up representing his blatant disregard for it and a lack of interest in preserving it. 2) pointing at the Constitution represents that he is acknowledging it is still the rule of law and he is telling the American people that he feels he isn't doing anything unconstitutional. 3) the Constitution is on fire representing our rights and liberties being destroyed under his administration. 4) He is not looking at the Constitution on fire which represents that he is either ignorant or deceitful about destroying our right and liberties.”

In addition to this he is covering the words, “United States of America.” His color of tie has meaning and much, much, more…

Ron Paul!

Renee' asked me the following question:

"I know this is personal, but curious if you would answer. Do you have a candidate in mind to vote for? I am very confused about my decision of who to vote for. Just like last time, I find myself looking at the people running for office, and I am tormented to make the right choice. Would respect your input!!"

My response:

Renee',

Ron Paul is the most constitutional, (which I really like) but the least political. Some may say that is an asset, but I'm afraid he would have a difficult time getting things done with all the obstacles he would face in Washington.

Each of the other candidates have something of value and something that makes me doubt. I keep having debates with my son about voting for Ron Paul. We talk about the issues of Iran, abortion, illegal immigration. If I lined up each candidate based on how they meet my personal ideals, Paul is first. But then there is the argument: is the goal to vote based on ideals or to vote to "remove" Obama and begin the process of reviving our country? I think Paul may only get the strongly conservative voters.

When all is said and done, I will vote based on my conscious.

I would be interested in any strong arguments why I should vote for any particular candidate. This I know...Obama must be voted out of office!

I would think of him better if he went by "Betty Bowers' Personal Artist".

re: #77 I'm back in the USSR (sigh)

An apparent self-description: "America's Most Patriotic Artist".

You should leave that criticism for the man, and not generalize a whole religion. Just because Romney is a dick, and happens to be Mormon it need not be open season on the religion.

That's not the official picture of Christ and the Children that the LDS church stocks in the library and uses.

The guy comes off as a wussy having a hissy fit. If there was any reason to be scared of him for being an unpredictable snapped nutjob, then the people sitting around him would at the very least appear uneasy. But they were all like, aw geeze, this f-ing idiot is gonna have another one of his tantrums for the cameras, here we gooo, sure as hell, throws the papers... think I'll catch some zzzz's.

The guy on his right seems kind of bored by the performance, like it happens all the time from the same person, and the one on his left seems to think the speaker is a raging lunatic - who he later finds completely boring.
