Tech Note: Scheduled Tweeting With LGF Connect

Auto-tweeting at the time of your choice
LGF • Views: 32,962

Our LGF Connect Twitter client app has a nifty new feature today: you can now schedule tweets to be sent at a later time and date. I’ve been testing this for a few days, and it’s now ready to roll out for registered LGF users who have gone to Account Settings and linked their LGF and Twitter accounts.

Setting the time for your scheduled tweet is very simple; when you click one of our tweet buttons (or type Control-Y) you’ll see a new checkbox labeled “Schedule” in the LGF Connect dialog box:

When you click the Schedule checkbox, an input line appears next to it with the current time/date filled in, and our time/date picker pops up to let you choose your scheduled time.

Notice that when the Schedule checkbox is checked, the “Tweet” button has an asterisk to remind you that submitting this tweet will schedule it for later posting, instead of sending it to Twitter right away.

Notice also that the time/date picker won’t allow you to choose a time earlier than when the dialog box popped up. (There’s no upper time limit.)

Scheduled times and dates must be set according to the US Pacific time zone. (On the to-do list: time zone localization.)

Final note: our scheduling script runs every five minutes on the server, so the Scheduled time is not exact. It will be posted sometime within the five-minute window that includes your selected time.

Allow me to display my complete lack of tech savvy with one question:

Why would I want to use this feature?

re: #1 researchok

I'll use it to post things on Twitter when I'm traveling or away from the computer, the same way I sometimes schedule LGF articles to appear later.

It's a feature that you may not realize you need, until one day you do.

Understood.

I have a question along the same lines- would it be possible to post/schedule pages in the same way?

I do understand the downsides- you might be inundated with page posts and that might be hard to monitor.

I love how the lunatics who constantly stalk me on Twitter like to pretend they're not stalkers - while they use pictures of me for their avatars, use variations on my name and LGF readers' names for their names, post endless screenshots of LGF, harass everyone I talk to and follow, and tweet about absolutely nothing except how much they hate me, all day long, every day of the week.

Oh, no, they're not obsessed stalkers at all. They're just conservatives engaging in discourse.

Yes, actually - I'm planning to add that feature for Pages too.

Elizabeth Warren's profits from flipping houses may not have been as high as reported in the Boston Herald.

A useful corrective article, though it does not undercut the fact that she did indeed flip houses. If she attacked such practices while engaging in them, then she has shown herself to be a hypocrite. The "Fauxcahontas" label would indeed fit her well in that case.

Better to call it CJDS, I think. The letters stand for "Charles Johnson Derangement Syndrome". It's a similar affliction to BDS and ODS, and those who caught BDS during George W. Bush's presidency often caught CJDS as well. Since Charles' break with 'the right', a similar CJDS-ODS connection has been noted. In all such cases the hatred exhibited is fully irrational and extremely dishonest.

a) at least three people confirmed that Warren's self-identification did not play a role in her hiring at Harvard;

b) nobody refuted her statement that this was her family's lore.

I don't know if she was hypocritical.

Let's say she embellished her background.

Once it's out there, it's out there. She has to live with it. Remember, she is a politician. Even if she wanted to come clean (after being called out) her political handlers would probably not have allowed it.

As is always the case, it's the cover up. Had she come clean this would be another nontroversy.

It's just not that big a deal, IMO.

Elizabeth Warren lands party endorsement with record 95 percent support at Massachusetts Democratic Convention

"We've been endorsing candidates this way for 30 years and we've never had a candidate get 86 percent of the delegates votes," said party Chair John Walsh, referencing the minimum15 percent support threshold Marisa DeFranco needed to appear on the party's primary ballot.
With Warren shattering the record and preventing DeFranco from getting the votes she needed, the immigration attorney's candidacy now effectively ends as Warren can focus solely on Brown.

this is why they're scared. The entire party is behind her

As Charlie Pierce noted, this nothing-burger continues to get attention because half the media's in the tank for Brown while the other half lives in constant fear of being seen as in the tank for Warren. Add to that the overarching media desire for every race to be a horse race and you get a dedication to finding any and all "flaws" possible in Warren's background.

Also, the real-estate flipping thing happened during the 1990s, not the recent financial crisis, and never involved any of the fraudulent and unethical activities predatory lenders like Country Wide engaged in.

And did I mention sleazebag Scott Brown supported the Blunt amendment to blunt women's reproductive rights, giving their employers panty-sniffing-level privacy-violating powers?

Who gives a fuck about Warren's so-called past - I'd vote against Brown for the above reason alone.

39 Lord Baron Viscount Duke Earl Count Planckton  Sat, Jun 2, 2012 1:57:35pm

Even if it was established that Warren slipped up on this one minor point - and it hasn't been - the question would be, does it matter in light of her significant accomplishments?

Most of the historical heroes were extremely flawed people. They're still heroes because their accomplishments significantly outweigh their flaws. Warren is no hero, but her record should be judged as a whole.

(And when it happens that she is slimed because of the claims that have not been proven...)

Their feelings about birth control should have no effect anyone's else's use of birth control or any other legal medication. The Blunt law allows employers to control coverage of these meds for their employees at a level for which 'panty sniffing' is a pretty accurate descriptive. It is none of their business and the Blunt law makes it so to a disturbingly intimate degree.

Medical insurance is a part of an employee's compensation package just like the paycheck. Exactly the same. For an employer to be able to make demands on how that compensation may be used, in this case for birth control purposes, is no different than being allowed to tell employees how they may spend their paychecks. The difference between "you can't do that" and "I'm not going to pay for that" is essentially nil.

Kinda related to the wingnut font, I started new position in the more male-dominated side of construction estimating & the guy training me tried to set up my computer print out with my name in comic sans. I told him to his glassy stare, that that font is evil. His next selection was cursive. Sigh. I matched it to the company's generic.

Go placidly amid the noise and waste,
And remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.
Avoid quiet and passive persons, unless you are in need of sleep.
Rotate your tires.
Speak glowingly of those greater than yourself,
And heed well their advice, even though they be turkeys.
Know what to kiss, and when.
Consider that two wrongs never make a right, but that three do.
Wherever possible, put people on hold.
Be comforted that in the face of all aridity and disillusionment,
and despite the changing fortunes of time,
There is always a big future in computer maintenance.

Well, if Elizabeth Warren is being punished for using family lore on Indian heritage then I guess most people from Oklahoma could never run for Office.

I discovered that my grandmother's grandmother was full blood Indian because she had some letter's and a picture of her. Seems that the Indian grandmother was forced to separate from her family to go to one of those schools they made Indian children go to be 'civilized.'

I asked my grandmother's brother about the letter and he said yes, his grandmother was Indian and that his grandfather met her when he moved to Oklahoma and married her. They weren't on any Indian roles and he was really old at the time and he couldn't even recall what tribe she was from.

So Elizabeth Warren's story is not that unusual at all.

re: #67 Dark_Falcon

There is a large difference between saying "You can't do that." and saying "I'm not going to pay for that.".

You're being dishonest though, and blatantly so. The employer pays more for insurance coverage that doesn't cover birth control, and thus forces the employee to contribute more for less coverage. Don't forget that the insurance is part of the employees total compensation and since the employer can't place conditions on what's done with salary mandating that they receive more expensive and less effective insurance coverage is completely out of bounds.

It has also been explained to you many times that birth control pills are prophylactic against more than just pregnancy, that they help to prevent things like endometriosis, ovarian cysts and tumors. That's why the insurance that covers less costs more, because it bans preventative treatments. The fact that this has to be explained to you again and again, and is never acknowledged is just another indicator of your near total lack of personal integrity.

re: #152 Dark_Falcon

To be clear: When I used the "Fauxcahontas" line it was in reference to her having previously flipped houses, but now railing against the practice. I did not aim it at her heritage, though the line was originally designed to do so. But I could hardly use the line as originated, since I'd be insulting myself (I am part Cherokee, too).

Do you have a single quote of Elizabeth Warren "railing against" house flipping per se? I see that she was involved in lending money to several of her family members for sales in the mid 1990's and then ten years later criticized the dishonest widespread lending and foreclosure practices that destroyed the market in 2008. These events are somehow linked in the conservative mindset because the conservative mindset is incredibly lazy, dishonest and stupid.

However, O'Mara argued that the second passport was found while Zimmerman and his wife were cleaning out their house. The document was immediately given to O'Mara, who accidentally let a month pass before revealing he had the document.

This implies the lawyer had the pass for a month, right?

Yet the talk between Z and his wife indicating she had the passport happened on April 17, while the hearing was on April 20.

The arguments of ignorance are totally ringing hollow. The judge made clear yesterday that he wants not just Georgie, but the wife as well before his bench, explaining themselves. Sex, drugs and rock-n-roll, restaurant style.

224 dragonfire1981  Sat, Jun 2, 2012 3:38:04pm

Also, OT but I've been working on a writing project that's been really fulfilling to me lately.

It's a story centered around illegal immigration seen through the eyes of several different people:

- Hispanic U.S. citizens who are unfairly targeted and harassed as "illegal immigrants"
- A young Mexican man whose family has been killed by drug violence and now yearns to go to America, but resorts to attempting to cross illegally
- A (Legal) Canadian immigrant who ends up in Arizona working alongside law enforcement in one of the border counties
- A border patrol officer stationed at the crossing in Nogales, Arizona.

As I am an immigrant myself, the story holds a lot of meaning to me. It's coming together nicely.

I've debated adding another character somewhat based on Joe Arpaio, but I'm not sure yet it I'll do it.

I'm thinking IF I can manage to bring it together I could have a very marketable product.

I've learned a lot in doing research for the story and, among other things, I stumbled across a National Geographic series called "Border Wars" that follows Border Patrol officers all along the U.S./Mexico border and sheds some light on how they do what they do.

For example, I didn't know before watching it that they used predator drones to help catch people trying to cross illegally. I also didn't know that generally you are NOT jailed unless you get caught trying to cross three times (First time you are banned from the U.S. for 5 years, the second 20 and the third time, you go to jail).

One interesting thing, they showed a clip of a border patrol officer talking about all the different documents that can be used to cross the border. She said there is currently over 8000 (no that's not a typo) different documents someone can use to cross the border.

My first thought was: That is completely insane, there MUST be a way to whittle that down a little to a more workable number.

Can you imagine having to keep track and understand that many documents? It makes spotting fakes a real pain in the butt.

What I laugh at is the shock on their face when they know good and well those are live cameras on and they lie when you call them out on it for something they have done.

Or the customers that get all busy in their cars. They must be too cheap to make it to the hotel right next door.

While you can have several emails on a paypal account, my experience with it is that the alerts will be sent to only one email, the primary one. So it would depend on who was managing that account and what email was set as the primary email for the account.

At night in the back parking lot may look like a pretty secure location to them at 2 or 3 o'clock in the morning. I thought most of my customer were aware of the 3 cameras back there. We had to do it, because one of my cooks was beat up by a gang of teenage white girls. And he's a big guy too and they beat the living sh** out of him. I bought the one recipe book. Read through it. Then bought a copy for my brother. :)

Reading the descriptions of how they tried variations to get the effect they want, and why they chose certain ingredients or techniques, is a bit of a cooking education in and of itself.

Another problem that turned up is that when Oklahoma tries to forbid the use of other nations' laws... that fucks with existing United States treaty obligations to the Cherokee, Cheyenne, Arapaho, Chickasaw, Choktaw, Creek, Kickapoo, Kiowa, Comanche, Pawnee, Potawatomi, Seminole, Seneca, Shawnee and Wichita nations, all of whose lands are located within Oklahoma.
