The Advocate Magazine published a post today pointing out CNN contributer Dana Loesch’s defense of some questionable comments from a teenager on YouTube. During a YouTube rant Caiden Cowger said, among other things, that he used to be friends with other teenagers but when he found out that they were gay he was “sickened.” He also said that homosexuality is a “perverted choice” and that President Obama and Vice President Biden were “making kids gay”.

In response to these comments, Loesch said via Twitter:

Another conservative teen under attack for being … a conservative teen: @caidencowger. Remember when adults praised civic participation?

Of course, Loesch is now trying to claim that she was just defending free speech, but no one was questioning whether Cowger had a right to say what he did. By saying that his comments were just part of “being a conservative teen,” Loesch was suggesting Cowger’s views were more than just legally protected and, in fact, that they were just a natural part of being conservative. While the country is going to hell in a handbasket in a lot of other ways, I think we can at least say we’ve reached a point where even many conservatives are no longer attacking homosexuality and certainly not ending friendships with people just because they’re gay, and this behavior should hardly be considered the norm.

Loesch’s “evolving” stance on LGBT issues is symbolic of her career in general. She used to be publicly supportive of the LGBT community, and supposedly still is privately. However, as long as she’s getting paid to be a shock jock and trying to increase the knuckle-dragger share of her audience, she’s happy to bash any and all liberal gay rights advocates and to throw red meat to bigots. Just as she voted for Romney in the 2008 primary before figuring out it was more profitable to be a “radical conservative,” she was cool with equality before she realized it paid more to pander to far right extremists.
