re: #25 SanFranciscoZionist

Friends of my dad's used to breed these, may still. They are scary bright. (I was once elaborately psyched out by a baby mini-pig, and have respected pig intelligence a lot more since then.)

Here comes another story.

When I was 17, my mother moved herself and her dogs to an 80 acre lot just outside of one of our larger cities. She ended up raising toy poodles, German Shepherds, and horses while her husband raised a few pigs and a steer or two. A few years after she moved out there, a few of their sows gave birth and one of the piglets was a sickly runt. Normally, my mom's husband, being brought up on a farm, would simply have disposed of the runt, but my sister was too soft hearted to allow it, so the piglet ended up growing up in the house.

There were two older Toy Poodle females living in the house at that time and a cat who had just given birth to a number of kittens. Being the mothering type, both dogs had had several litters of pups over the years, the one mother poodle decided the kittens needed more care than the mommy cat could give them, so she would grab a kitten and carry it off to the bedroom and under the bed for cuddling. The mommy cat would retrieve the kitten and try to hide it.

Nothing unusual in that, it happens when you get different animal groups in one protected area where food is plentiful. What was strange was the relationship between the other motherly poodle and the runt pig.

The dog, although she was past the age she should have pups, started lactating to feed the kittens, and the piglet took that as an invitation to suckle. Even after the cat and her kittens were taken out to the barn, the piglet continued to suckle from the old dog for months.

It was pretty strange and strangely entertaining to watch the interaction of the two dogs, the cat, her kittens and the piglet.

My takeaway = piglets are NOT bacon.

After spending time with a number of animals, and learning how bright they really are, I do have a difficult time sometimes rationalizing my love of meat. Then I remember; the cats, the dogs and the pigs would have no problem eating me if I were to die and stay available to them for lunch (although dogs do have trouble eating humans they know and can get depressed when forced by circumstances to do so), and I'm not strong enough to overcome my own omnivorousness.

I'm not sure how much rot he's actually spreading, but at the very least his Church needs to lose their tax exempt status since they're clearly violating IRS 501 (c) (3) requirements. In paradise, fast by the tree of life,

To heaven removed, where first it grew, there grows,

And where the river of bliss through midst of heaven
Rolls o'er elysian flowers her amber stream:
With these that never fade the spirits elect

After the way the Democrats have acted there, one can hardly blame Indiana voters if they fling the Dems out. The Ind. House Dems repeated decision to leave the state rather than let bills they don't like pass is an asshole tactic.

I just hope Illinois elects a Republican Governor in 2014. Then the Dems from neighboring states won't be able to run to here any more, because a GOP Gov. would use the state police to send them back.

Israeli journalist beaten by Greek mob for photographing attack

A Jerusalem Post reporter — on assignment to cover the rise of a Greek neo-Nazi-like political party — was viciously beaten in Athens Tuesday for filming a mob that was attacking immigrants, refugees and homeless people in the street.

About 20 men wearing masks and helmets were beating people with batons outside the National Archaeological Museum, a popular tourist spot in the capital city, The Jewish Journal reported.

The assaulted reporter, Gil Shefler, saw the mob attack and instinctively grabbed his camera to start shooting, he told the Athens News.

“I snapped a photo, and one guy came up and told me ‘Listen, don’t take a photo. They’ll beat the hell out of you,’ ” Shefler told the paper. “Seconds later, I was being chased by five of these people. They caught me and beat me with sticks for around five minutes, I reckon.”

Shefler was in Greece on assignment covering Golden Dawn, the right-wing extremist political party that’s been compared to neo-Nazis. The group has tried to distance itself from the Nazi label, but employs a Greek symbol that resembles a swastika as its logo. Their offices are also stocked with literature promoting Aryan supremacy, Reuters reports.

Secondly, fascism didn't start in Germany. Interestingly, some historians trace the roots of fascism back to.. ahem... ancient Greece.

You said that, but my mind's eye saw 'repeats' until after I'd already posted.

Mickey Spann, who died in a Taliban prison riot in 2001, is one of very few CIA agents whose star is named. But his death was public and honorable, so there was no blowback from the CIA admitting he was one of their own, quite the opposite in fact.

Hatcheries release fish back into the wild. Grew up near two of them...weren't allowed to fish within a half mile of their fish ladders.

Farms feed their fish pellets that contain everything from corn meal (not normally found in the pacific or atlantic oceans) to animal parts discarded by chicken processors (also not something fish eat in the wild).

Farms feed their fish pellets that contain everything from corn meal (not normally found in the pacific or atlantic oceans) to animal parts discarded by chicken processors (also not something fish eat in the wild).

Fish farms I have not been to.

I grew up near the Pacific ocean (relatively).

I've been to both (hatcheries and farms)

Grew up in Boston and vacationed on the Maine and New Hampshire shores, so fresh seafood was never an issue until I moved to Georgia (outside of Atlanta ,,,, 6 hours to the nearest salt water)

Farmed fish tastes like shit and they feed them chemicals to make the flesh look bright orange. I had a fresh salmon last week out of the pacific ocean...flesh is a beautiful red.

And I got to use my new fillet knife.

I've just got to post this one:

Hungry Jack syrup truck spills onto Buttermilk Pike

A highway truck accident never sounded so delicious. A semitrailer hauling Hungry Jack pancake syrup collided with a highway median at the Buttermilk Pike overpass in northern Kentucky, causing the truckload of syrup to spill all over the highway.

"Every lane of southbound I-75 was covered in pancake syrup," Fort Mitchell Police Officer Mark Spanyer told the Kentucky Enquirer. "It was a royal pain in the butt."

The semitrailer dumped hundreds of boxes of Hungry Jack syrup bottles.

Thankfully, no one was seriously hurt in the accident, including the driver. Spanyer said the incident occurred on Thursday when the Hungry Jack driver maneuvered to avoid a car on the highway with a blown-out tire. While the driver was able to avoid the car, he then crashed into a median on the Buttermilk Pike overpass.

Sadly, cleanup crews were forced to use sand, rather than giant pancakes, to clean up the mess.

Just add pigs for bacon and chickens for eggs, plus some orange juice and you've got breakfast!

Well, at least it wasn't good real maple syrup. It could probably be considered a good thing that all that high fructose corn syrup based ... stuff ... was spilled ;)

Actually, many maple-sugar syrup mixes use cane sugar instead of corn syrup. But you need to remember to look at the ingredients to make sure you get the good stuff. Either pure maple syrup or else mixed with cane sugar; Save the high fructose corn syrup for your soda with lunch.

Texas feels The Need For Speed:

Can't drive 55? … 65? … 75? How about 85?

A stretch of Texas highway may soon be the first road in the country to have a posted 85 mph speed limit.

The Texas Department of Transportation said this week that part of a toll road being built between Austin and San Antonio will be tested to see if motorists can safely push it to 85.

"It was designed under extremely high design parameters," Darren McDaniel, the state's Speed Management Director told WOAI radio.

Texas and Utah are the only states with 80-mph limits on some roadways. But Texas turned heads when lawmakers gave the green light to go to 85 if needed.

"The higher the speed limit, the more accidents there are, the more injuries and the more deaths," Jerry Johns, president of the Southwest Insurance Information Institute, told Reuters last year.

Eighty-five mph would be the second-highest posted speed limit in the world, according to the European auto rental firm Rhino Car Hire, Reuters reported. Some roads in Poland reportedly allow speeds of about 86 mph.

That's the flatlands they're talking about, so I can see this being viable, provided the road is maintained. It would be a great place to take a fast car, really get some advantage out of that Corvette, Charger, or Mustang.

Yeah, it seems like the whole crew is toxic. They might not end up up in jail over this stuff but some of their associates probably will. These guys make me a bit nervous. They have no problem going after small time insignificant people on the web. I don't want to end up on their radar.
