Stunningly crass behavior from The Daily Caller’s Neil Munro at today’s White House announcement, yelling and interrupting the President in the middle of his statement.
All over Twitter, right wingers with Andrew Breitbart and Gadsden flag avatars are cheering like classless goons, making Neil Munro into their new hero. You can’t go wrong with the right wing by disrespecting a black President.
I'd have expected the powers that be at the Daily Caller not to be stupid enough to openly endorse this behavior, even if Monroe or whoever was privately instructed to carry it out.
Conversely, if the POTUS was a Republican and the reporter from HuffPo, these same paragons of patriotism would be demanding that his citizenship be stripped and that his ass was sent to Gitmo.
Well, yes, at the appropriate time, when the statement is over and questions are invited and when the questioner is recognized. That's usually how it works.
It's great to know that the far-right still respects and honors the office of the President of the United States.
Munro reminds his goombah friends that they do not consider Obama to be the legitimate President of the USA.
They are of the unshakeable opinion that he should have been impeached years ago, actuallly, he should never have been allowed to campaign for the office in the first place.
Difference between a fixation on opposition for the sake of opposition and noting that a policy matches a policy you favor regardless of which party enacted it.

Tucker probably got asked to respond to his reporter making a nuisance of himself, not hearing it was while Obama was talking, and gave a scripted response that makes him look clueless at best, a fuckwit at worst.
"...I’m not one to revere the imperial presidency, but it’s unbelievable how wingnuts treat this man with such unprecedented and bullying disrespect: from Rep. Joe Wilson screaming “You lie” during Obama’s 2009 speech to a joint session of Congress, to Speaker John Boehner denying him his choice of dates for another Congressional address (for the first time in history) last fall, to Donald Trump’s persistent, humiliating demands for the president to show him his papers (with no rebuke from ally Mitt Romney)...."
He'll probably want to canonize him, as well as wag his porcine finger at the White House when they ban the Daily Caller in perpetuity for today's stunt.
The president makes a moderate policy change, and the this maroon comes on and acts as if the "others" don't deserve jobs or citizenship ever ever ever.
On the bright side, perhaps people who didn't know who the Daily Caller were will now.
A lot of those affected by this have done more to be citizens than those assholes ever did.
I always go to the White House prepared with questions for our president. I timed the question believing the president was closing his remarks, because naturally I have no intention of interrupting the President of the United States. I know he rarely takes questions before walking away from the podium.
You just asked the president your last question, Skippy.
And Tucker invokes Sam Donaldson...
I don’t remember Diane Sawyer scolding her colleague Sam Donaldson for heckling President Reagan. And she shouldn’t have. A reporter’s job is to ask questions and get answers. Our job is to find out what the federal government is up to. Politicians often don’t want to tell us. A good reporter gets the story. We’re proud of Neil Munro.
It would be funny if Obama had one of those old-timey horns that go aaah-ROOO-gah! and then intentionally honked it to drown out reporters while they ask their questions. Then ask them to repeat themselves and do it again.
The reason I say it would be funny is most likely because I've been approximately 12 years old for the past 25+ years.
When given the option be seen as a liar or be seen as incompetent it is interesting how the last option seems to be the one chosen more often. And that simply coming clean and taking personal responsibility according to espoused philosophy never happens.
Yet another reason he had no business there. He wasn't there to be a journalist and report on the President's presser, but instead was an agitator and disruptor of events.
Munro is an example of a post-modern narcissistic troll that has replaced traditional journalism. He's even reached the point where he is defending himself with the typical meme we've heard over and over again from trolls that have come and gone at LGF, "I'm just asking questions."

I presume he liked the taste of soap as a youth since he probably learned his conversation rules from his parents.
What I'm still trying to figure out is how Munro can claim the title of reporter when he had no notes, no recording device, no nothing. The clip looks like he was standing around just to take his potshot. Short clips can be deceiving, sure. But where exactly is the journalism?

I just hate all of the disrespect of the office of the President that has occurred in the last decade. Bush had to put up with Code Pink rushing the podium, shoes being thrown at him, Cindy Sheehan, constant heckling, and even four years later his head on a spike on a popular TV show. Obama can nearly count for certain that everyone one of his speeches will be interrupted megalomaniac substandard genital owner seeking the spotlight. I just wish it would all stop.

The shoe was not thrown by a Democrat.
And I don't remember many instances of heckling, let alone 'constant' heckling - mainly because Bush's people heavily screened his public appearances, even to the point of removing or denying entry to people who might have caused trouble.
Bush got nowhere near the amount of disrespect that Obama is getting. Not even close.
“A year ago I was watching the show ‘Glee’ with my wife and we watched it like this,” Beck said making the motion of his jaw dropping. “It’s horrifying some of the things that they’re teaching high schoolers. But it’s brilliantly done. It’s brilliantly done.”
At first, Beck says he was despondent.
“I said at the end of it, we lose,” he said. “There’s no way to beat that.”
But it didn’t take long for Beck to snap out of his funk and start devising a way to defeat “Glee.” Beck’s secret weapon: what he jokingly calls “the Oedipus Project” (“because the left will be making out with me,” he explained to BuzzFeed this week). Essentially, the plan is to produce a conservative alternative to “Glee” that is covert enough in its conservatism to not turn people away.
“We’ve spent a year now trying to put together a push-back with artists with music, but not the stereotypical conservative Lee Greenwood music,” he told the crowd at FFC.
and even four years later his head on a spike on a popular TV show.
Which nobody would have noticed if it had not been pointed out by someone from the show...
I also had trouble with people heckling Bush and calling him a Nazi or war criminal. But the current tribalism that has come up since 2008 has overshadowed all that.
I kst had an unsettling thought: what if this immigration decision triggers a wave of violence against Latinos? Can you imagine an American Breivik wannabe gunning down "Mexicans" in the name of patriotism?
Essentially, the plan is to produce a conservative alternative to “Glee” that is covert enough in its conservatism to not turn people away.
I smell a musical adaptation of 'The Half-Hour Comedy Hour.'
(Full disclosure: I hate that show. But lots of people enjoy it, and I'm just smart enough to not watch it. Unlike Beck, who feels the need to 'destroy' something he doesn't like rather than ignoring it.)

That's quite an interesting statement when it's taken apart. Mommy sexual issues and an admission that conservatism, when honestly presented, offends people.
I have no clue what the hell “because the left will be making out with me” means but if there's Beck tongue involved, ewww.

No double standards there at all. Nope.
Yeah, what happened to that guy that yelled out to Cheney at a presser he was giving, and he was only the VP. Visit by the authorities I believe it was, not praise by the media. Fuck those pricks.

I'm running into a few fence-sitters who are whining because "Obama's going over Congress' head." And? Congress has moved with all the speed of glacier in addressing problems with our immigration system these last 3 decades. You can't deport them all, but just the suggestion that those who leave voluntarily might get preferential treatment in acquiring citizenship or work visas draws cries of "AMNESTY!"
It's time for folks to grow the fuck up and realize that "compromise" can't be a four-letter word anymore. Even Reagan realized that tossing good, decent, hard-working folks whose only desire is to provide a better life for them and theirs is not the way forward.
This sack of crap spits in the face of the American People and the mandates of law and the Constitution. This mother f****r must be put UNDER a prison ... and his followers sent to the electric chair.

Yanno, I keep seeing them say that but have yet to see one, single example of how President Obama is violating any mandates or the Constitution. I actually asked a guy here who was spewing that nonsense what he was referring to and all he could do was sputter and walk away, calling me an idiot.
I did agree that there was an idiot involved in that conversation. I could support the opinion, too.

I think most of them just repeat it like good little dittoheads, but those who actually try to argue that he's violating the Constitution pull the "strict constructionalist" bent. You know, the "if it ain't in there, it ain't legal" bit that never seems to cause them to pause and consider that half the shit that the government has done with the Right's blessing wouldn't pass muster either.
This Gadsden gets extremely annoyed at my family's flag being besmirched by these loons.
If I ever become armigerous, I intend to register the rattlesnake with the motto "Noli me calcare" as my arms, and then any such person fool enough to try waving my family's flag in this United Kingdom will find themselves before the Court of Chivalry.
“It has nothing to do with her using the word ‘vagina,’” Adler told TPM Friday. “The Speaker Protempore at the time was John Walsh. It was his judgment at the time that when she finished her statement by referencing her vagina, and then saying ‘no means no,’ that was drawing in a rape reference, and he felt that crossed the line.”
So you can abort a debate in case of rape, but not a pregnancy.
Here in Hawaii, the news lady said, "You might want to get a pencil and write this down" so the young imigrants in her audience could get the details as she was discussing President Obama's announcement for the Dream Act.
Meh, his answer was more or less what I expected. He had to find something to complain about to differentiate himself but he did he mention Rubio's advice which I see as a plus. Long story short, his solution probably isn't going to be substantially different from Obama's.

Obama has been pushing for the DREAM act. What about Romney's principles (lol) or actions make you think that he would also be in favor of such a solution?
Obama is getting inside the Romneybot's OODA loop time. Not a good sign. That's a shortcoming of having to wait for a focus group study result on any issue, plus preparing the necessary walk back statement to use two weeks later.
And given my recent reading on Truman Romney *is* doing a lot of Dewey-ish speaking in platitudes and avoiding any meaningful details.

Rubio's been hyping a bill for weeks that doesn't exist, because he knows any bill that suggests something other than "Deport them all!" is gonna go over like a fart in church with his party. Romney putting his faith in Rubio's about as pointless as endorsing Paul Ryan's hollow mockery of a budget proposal.
[...] Munro is an Irish-born naturalized American citizen who had a very boring gig as a science correspondent for the respected National Journal for ten years until he went to the Caller, where he was finally allowed to unleash his inner asshole. Fun fact: In his role as “science” reporter at the journal, he wrote two major pieces lending credence to anti-vaccine conspiracy theorists! So he’s vile and moronic in a variety of ways. Also various people who have met him socially and people who have worked with him seem to agree that he’s not a particularly pleasant or respectful guy.
The Caller, obviously, is very proud of Munro for shouting stuff. So now let’s agree to not talk about him anymore, ever, because that is what they want.

Nobody except the looniest of fringe wingnuts really believes that deporting every last illegal immigrant and their descendants would be realistic. It's just not possible. Some form of amnesty (by whatever process) is going to be necessary along with better border control.
I haven't been following very closely today but Obama has said he's going to stop deportations of certain illegal immigrants, correct?
That still leaves a very significant problem. They are still illegal, many are abused and exploited by employers because of their immigration status, they don't pay taxes, etc. Immigration reform is very complicated and sadly we are partially dependent on an illegal immigrant workforce for agricultural work, service industry and construction in many states. It's how we maintain our lavish lifestyles. Simply halting the deportations doesn't do much to solve the problem or provide a long term solution.
The Caller, obviously, is very proud of Munro for shouting stuff. So now let’s agree to not talk about him anymore, ever, because that is what they want.
Precisely. I hope his 15 minutes are over, forever.
Man, these embedded tweets are hard as hell to style with CSS. They did not make this easy at all - their CSS loads after everything else, so you have to use very specific selectors and the '!important' operator to override Twitter's default styles.
But I now have a somewhat different look for the embedded tweets, more closely matching LGF's font styles. (You have to reload to see the new styles.)

Nice. Twitter should do it your way, although the rumor is they already do...
I dunno, I say it's a far more loony position to advocate "voluntary deportation"...in which the legal and social structure of the country is configured to harass undocumented immigrants such that they no longer want to be here. I mean, an actual push to use law enforcement to deport folks would have measurable results...the former would be throwing money into creating systematic discrimination (coincidentally playing into the hands of employers that treat their undocumented workers like helots) with no guaranteed results....
Yeah, I mean, all of his statements are kind of looney. Seeing it as a positive good for every illegal immigrant to leave the country is idiotic, and it's lying to the country to pretend that that would be possible, or an economic good.

Given the way undocumented labor is just completely wedded to the success certain industries...particularly agriculture and building...I'm never sure about the sincerity of "kick them all out" advocates who hold office.
Then again, the experiments with using prison labor in Alabama (or Georgia?) agriculture may point to what's being imagined as a solution...particularly if one pairs the idea with the for-profit prison industry. So far the actual practice isn't going well.
I think a lot of "kick 'em out" people really aren't thinking about how few degrees they're separated from undocumented labor. I certainly live in an area where everyone doesn't like the "Mexicans" but guess who makes up the roofing crews, kitchen staff, landscapers, et cetera. And the same people make up excuses for why the local Tyson (chicken processing) plant shouldn't be held responsible for employing undocumented workers, getting caught, and hiring new undocumented workers....
I'm glad one of the real reporters (you know, people with attentive looks instead of angry glares and hands on notepads and pens instead of in pockets) called Munro out on his lie. Anyone watching the video could tell Munro didn't "mistime" his question. Obama was clearly not done talking, as Munro alleges, nor was he getting ready to turn his back on reporters and walk away, as Munro also alleges. Pants on fire liar. His sole purpose on being there was to interrupt the president and create some kind of scene. For what purpose, I can only guess. Munro was not there to report -- no camera, no pen and notepad. Besides which, his posture and facial expression just oozed defiance and contempt. Reminded me of the look rebellious teenaged boys get when a teacher calls them out for making trouble in school.
I hope the WH press corps shun Munro like the pariah he should be. He's operating at the same level as that sniveling con artist, James O'Keefe.
