Friday Night Jam: Pat Metheny Group - To the End of the World

Music • Views: 25,630

From a 1995 concert in Japan, the Pat Metheny Group performs “To the End of the World,” from one of the all-time great albums, We Live Here. A perfect tune to put the crazy behind us for another week.

The audio level’s a bit low in this, so turn it up (and don’t forget to turn it back down when it’s through).

Pat Metheny is kinda hit or miss with me. This was a hit.

So I had this idea:

I'm going to pay a group of Latino immigrants to drive a bus around Mitt Romney's campaign headquarters and honk incessantly.

I'm watching the original Gojira right now, so I'm a bit concerned that Metheny is about to get crushed. Metheny is my fav jazz artist so I'm not about to watch the video in case Gojira smooshes the concert. Just to be on the safe side.

How do you respond, if at all, to the person who posted it?

If the person is a woman:
Fine, if you're against it, don't have one.

If the person is a man:
Get a vasectomy.

Pat's cool but for reasons I'm not sure about, I think I'm going to go throw the first Jarrett Trio Standards disk on. For some weird reason, this made me need to hear "Meaning of the Blues"...

(yeah, I'm still waiting on the US snail in a nearly empty house with my family 5 hours away. This means something???? ///)

The person in question is female. Most of the strong pro lifers on my friends list are females.

I wouldn't respond. Absolutists are stubborn folks. If you want to respond you can try something like this: Roman Catholicism and abortion access
Pagan & Christian beliefs 400 BCE -1980 CE

Long story short: Christians have had a wide variety of views regarding abortion over the past 2,000 years. Although it was common practice in 1st century Jerusalem and 18th century America, both J.C. and the founding fathers offered no opinion on the matter.

Ask her way a zygote is more important than a gamete.

KT's post is good.

For gut level purposes, if it hasn't "quickened" it doesn't mean a thing, That was the real world standard for near to 2000 years. Missed a period? Have a cup of pennyroyal tea. Once you can feel something there? Different standard.

Ask her way a zygote is more important than a gamete.

A zygote is a gamete’s way of producing more gamete’s. This may be the purpose of the universe.

I had forgotten that comment.

The purpose of the universe is to give entropy a place to organize.

I made a smart assed crack about his "Job" this morning and no one got it .

Pouts.

But I like that response. Plays on physics nicely the way the other plays on biology.

Nothing important. It was the usual discussion about religion around here and as A) a christian and B) a christian who believes in science I was on the side getting some of the flak for the asshats who think all believers are fundies. I made a statement that I believed in both god & evolution and, I forget who, gave me a // comment back about being sent to hell. I laughed and simply said that if that happens I'd expect "Job"'s Hell and would happily share a bottle of wine with Mr. Jefferson.

I just went and looked at our selection of Heinlein books. We have roughly 2 dozen paperbacks (we also have some hardcovers but they're in a box in the basement).

We do not have Job.

Ah. If you like Bob, you'll like "Job: A Comedy of Justice" It's exquisite. His "wife" was in heaven but his girlfriend was in hell so a "saint" jumps out of heaven to be in hell instead... Hell is not what we think it would be... ;)

Scariest part is how well he made it work ...
