Ann Romney: We Won’t Be Lazy Like Those Shiftless Obamas

Parroting the far right
Politics • Views: 33,233

Like her husband Willard, Ann Romney has learned you can never go wrong with the right by implying that America’s first black President is lazy and shiftless: Ann Romney: ‘I Doubt’ We’ll Take as Many Overseas Vacations as the Obamas.

Ann Romney, the wife of Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, said Monday that she doubted she and her husband would vacation overseas as frequently as the Obamas if her husband were elected.

Romney was responding to a question from WJR Detroit’s Frank Beckmann, who asked Romney if her family would be vacationing abroad as frequently as the Obamas.

“I doubt that,” Romney replied. “Our vacations and our happiness come from being with our children and our grandchildren.”

In large part, Romney’s campaign consists of parroting the stupidest and most dishonest far right talking points, and yeah — there’s very often a sub-text of racism.

There have been a total of two foreign vacations. South Africa in June of 2010 (without Barack) and Spain in April of 2010 (also without Barack).

Because when the Romeny's leave the country it is to do something important, like visit their money.

When the President does it all he's doing is representing the country. That's hardly important.

The Romneybot 6000 bows to no foreign leader! (The key is the lack of a functional joint in that area, along with a broomstick duct taped in to provide additional support.)

Obama Celebrates Anti-Police Riot Started at Mafia-Owned Bar for Transvestites

(CNSNews.com) - At a White House reception held Friday evening in honor of Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Pride month, President Barack Obama celebrated a 1969 anti-police riot that started in what the New York Times reports was an illegal Mafia-owned bar for transvestites.

Ah yes, the Stonewall riots are not cool because... gays and transvestites started a police riot. At a mafia owned bar.

The Romneys declared a loss of $77,000 on their 2010 tax returns for the share in the care and feeding of Rafalca...

[Link: www.nytimes.com...]

And note that's just a share of the loss. Ann Romney is a co-owner with two other women, so if they divided the losses evenly, then the total was $231,000.

The numbers around the level of sex assault in the military are staggering. There is so much of this going on in the US military that women soldiers' advocacy groups have created a new term for it: military sexual trauma or MST. Last year, there were 3,158 cases of sexual assault reported within the military. The Service Women's Action Network notes that rape is always under-reported, and that a military context offers additional hurdles to rape victims: the Department of Defense, they point out, estimates that these numbers are misleading because fewer than 14% of survivors report an assault. The DoD estimates that in 2010 alone, over 19,000 sexual assaults occurred in the military.

Actually yeah. If you run a business with your pet, say rent them as search and rescue or they do tv commercials, or other paid for stage appearances then there is no reason you wouldn't be able to claim their care and feeding as a business expense.

No! Going outside of the United States means that you don't love this country enough to vacation here like a Real American©. It also exposes you to the dreaded and far too prevalent European style Socialism mind diseases. No real patriot, and especially the President, should ever allow his kin to leave the country for any reason whatsoever.

Mitch McConnell defends Koch brothers

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell on Friday blasted President Barack Obama for joining in liberal attacks against conservative billionaires Charles and David Koch.

In a speech at the American Enterprise Institute, the Kentucky Republican accused Obama’s reelection campaign of employing tactics not seen since the Nixon administration. Part of that, he said, is an “enemies list” and efforts to demonize private citizens like the Koch brothers.

“Charles and David Koch have become household names, not for the tens of thousands of people they employ, not for their generosity to charity, and not for building up one of the most successful private corporations on the planet, but because of their forceful and unapologetic promotion and defense of capitalism,” McConnell said, according to prepared remarks.
The Senate minority leader said the president has wrongly accused big conservative donors like the Koch brothers of a “corporate takeover of our democracy.”

...

McConnell, who has vehemently opposed the McCain-Feingold Act, spoke in favor of the landmark Citizens United decision, calling it “strong validation of a fight I’ve waged for nearly three decades against those within the government who would micromanage political speech.”

He repeatedly called out the Obama administration for violating the First Amendment and called the DISCLOSE Act, which would require outside groups to list their donors, a political weapon for exposing and intimidating the president’s critics.

The administration’s views on campaign finance laws reflect Obama’s attempt at stifling his critics, McConnell said, using the example of the aftermath of Newark Mayor Cory Booker speaking out against the Obama campaign’s portrayal of Bain Capital.

...

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, another heavy contributor to Republican reelection campaigns, came out in support of McConnell’s views on campaign-finance laws.

“Leader McConnell’s remarks today correctly highlighted the dangers of the government attempting to limit our freedom of speech. The temptation for those in power to limit the speech of those who disagree with them is simply too great to allow the protections of the First Amendment to be eroded,” said Chamber vice president Bruce Josten in a statement.

[Link: www.politico.com...]

Republican super PACs and other outside groups shaped by a loose network of prominent conservatives – including Karl Rove, the Koch brothers and Tom Donohue of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce – plan to spend roughly $1 billion on November’s elections for the White House and control of Congress, according to officials familiar with the groups’ internal operations.

That total includes previously undisclosed plans for newly aggressive spending by the Koch brothers, who are steering funding to build sophisticated, county-by-county operations in key states. POLITICO has learned that Koch-related organizations plan to spend about $400 million ahead of the 2012 elections - twice what they had been expected to commit.

It's proof that the military needs to really look at itself. The article states they have no idea how many sex offenders are in it's ranks . . . . .they keep no such records as civilian authorities do.

Also a bit hypocritical on the military's part --we are working to change the culture in other countries, yet they accept it within their ranks?

But she dosen't consider herself "rich." Anyhow, I am not going to attack Ann personally here but she needs to realize if she's going to surrogate for her husband how well off they are. AT least try to show some sympathy with the downtrodden or be honest about how fortunate you and your family were that your husband had such a big salary. She has nothing to apologize for but she needs to be more sympathetic.

Well, I *am* going to attack Ann personally.

Here's an interview from 1994 (Mitt's first senate campaign), when she told her tale of their "struggling student" days when they had to get by for years without jobs, with no income at all, having to live off selling off the stock that Mitt's father had given them:

You have to laugh when millions of Americans who claim to value entrepreneurship and hard work above all else are preparing to vote for the guy born into wealth, with an elevator for his cars and a sideline in the luxury equestrianism business, over the kid from a single-parent household who made it to Harvard.

I don't know about that, she has the "being white" part nailed.

Indeed. But Obama's honest that rising to the top is not the result of the individual and the individual only. It's a shame that born on third and thinks he hit a triple wasn't coined for Mitt because that fits him more than it did H.W Bush.

At the very least H.W. got his ass shot out of the air in WWII. Puts him one up on people like Mitt, who only hear the sound of the guns at a skeet shoot.

There have been a total of two foreign vacations. South Africa in June of 2010 (without Barack) and Spain in April of 2010 (also without Barack).

Of course. This is all very stupid. Pathetic that she's pandering to this. That's something I would expect out of her husband not her.

Ann Romney does not strike me as someone who has a hell of a lot of self-awareness.

I liked Barbara and Laura Bush. I'm glad Mitt's not gonna win, because I can tell Ann would not be my favorite First Lady.

re: #59 darthstar

Is Ann Romney acting like a snooty bitch because she wants people to criticize her so she can play the victim?

I don't think it's that complicated. I think Ann and Mitt are both people who have simply never considered or cared what others might think of them. They don't get noblesse oblige, they don't think of their privilege as obligating them in any way. In fact, they think that merely mentioning they have privilege is an attack on them.

We've had many rich and privileged people win the presidency, of course, but I can't recall anyone with this degree of tactlessness about it. Imagine if Eleanor Roosevelt had announced she just didn't 'think of herself' as wealthy. Jackie Kennedy. Barbara Bush. They just never would have. Ever.

This. There's nothing wrong with being stinking rich. You just have to show some awareness and concern that many people are not stinking rich, and some of them are suffering because of it.

Why would the Romneys need to take vacations when their whole lives have been one big vacation? Exactly. The linked article even states:
"President Obama, however, has not taken any foreign vacations during his presidency, usually celebrating the Christmas holiday in his home state of Hawaii and summering in Martha's Vineyard."

I guess lying is a trait on both sides of the family.
