PJ Media Comments for Robert Spencer: ‘All Muslims Are Terrorists and Must Die!’

Where Robert Spencer goes, the bigotry and hatred follow
Wingnuts • Views: 32,584

Today at PJ Media, hate group leader Robert Spencer turns in another exercise in blatant bigotry: PJ Media » Is Michael Bloomberg Secretly a Muslim?

He’s only “kidding,” of course. He doesn’t really think Michael Bloomberg is a secret Muslim.

He just thinks Bloomberg is acting like a Muslim, and we know what that means to Robert Spencer. The point of his article is to argue again that America urgently needs laws to protect us from imminent shariah takeover by the real secret Muslims.

The real question, then, is not so much whether Bloomberg is secretly a Muslim — of course he isn’t — but whether Islamic law is inherently totalitarian and inimical to the spirit of respect for individual rights upon which this nation was founded. And despite all the increasingly frantic mainstream media attempts to obscure Sharia’s true contents and nature from the American people, it is increasingly clear that it is. Sharia legislates for every aspect of human life, such that the pious Muslim faces no ethical difficulties, no moral dilemmas, no hard choices, no tough judgment calls: everything is set out for him to the last detail, and all he need do is obey. This results in a stunting of the moral character that leads not only to the atrophy of the individual’s abilities of ethical discernment, but also to a diminishment of both the value of the individual and the power of the individual in society. Human beings are not individual moral actors, but only subjects of the authoritarian power, who directs them in every detail of how to behave. The human will is cheapened, and human life itself is cheapened.

This is a key reason why anti-Sharia laws in the U.S. are so urgently needed. The United States at its founding accorded an extraordinary and largely unprecedented respect for the individual; the struggle against Sharia is yet another episode in the never-ending war of the bullying authority against the individual will. What played out in National Socialist Germany, as well as in the Soviet Union and other Communist states, will play out again in America as we decide in the coming months and years how much Islamic law we’re going to accommodate, and when (if ever) we’re going to resist the imposition of more: the struggle between the individual and the collective.

And the comments for Spencer’s nasty little screed are just as hateful and sickening as you might expect, advocating mass deportations and genocide.

Well,if you want to stick your unclean, midieval, barbarian ass in the air like some kind of punk wanting to be mounted by an alpha male by bowing down to a meteorite in the middle of the Arabian desert so you can honor an illiterate mass murdering pedophile who claimed to be the messenger for some obscure Arabian moon ‘god’,then who am I to judge?….personally,I use a page from the koran every time I have to take a mohammed….it’s just sooo much softer than Charmin

[…]

Simply put WE DONT TRUST Muslims – end of story, if we were smart in USA we would deport ALL NON-Resident Muslims including those i univesity. YOUR history of slavery, torture of women & children has not changed since 1700′s

[…]

If you want to practice this abomination go back to any of the 7th century hellholes you already have and stay there!

[…]

May all who worship the false prophet Muhammad (a thousand curses be unto his pig name) be slaughtered like the sub-human scum they are. I spit on your false prophet. The bottom of my feet are prettier than his ugly face. All muslims are terrorists and must die!

This about the same mayor (Bloomberg) who, along with NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly authorized an extensive intel operation to spy on Muslims and Muslim groups in New Jersey and outside the boundaries of New York City and which may have been in violation of Handschu guidelines. The original Handschu guidelines required a 3-judge panel to issue warrants, but in 2003, that was reduced to a 1-judge panel, allowing the potential for mischief. I'd argue that it's time to bring back the 3-judge panel to reduce the chances of chicanery. It wouldn't stop the NYPD from conducting this surveillance, but they'd have to prove the necessity of their actions to the satisfaction of the panel.

Yeah, Bloomberg's a secret Muslim alright.

Or.... Spencer is an ignorant hack.

I'm going to go with the latter.

Sort of related, on the anti-Muslim bigotry front:

Christian missionary group with pig's head taunt Arab-Americans at Dearborn festival

Tensions flared Friday evening at the annual Arab International Festival in Dearborn as members of some Christian missionary groups — including one called the Bible Believers — taunted Arab Americans with a pig’s head and signs that promoted hatred of Islam.

“You’re gonna burn in hell,” one missionary shouted at a group of young Arab-American boys listening to him speak on Warren Avenue, where the festival takes place.

The festival continues today in Dearborn, but the members of the Bible Believers won’t be there because they’ll be protesting a gay festival in Ohio, said Arab Festival organizers.

The three-day festival is the largest public gathering of Arab-Americans in the U.S.; it has drawn Christian missionaries for years, but in 2009, some become more aggressive, leading to arrests and legal feuds.

...

The Bible Believers also protested at last year's Arab Festival, holding up both anti-Muslim and anti-Catholic signs and causing one Arab-American Muslim girl to cry.

About a dozen with the group stood facing the festival on Friday with signs that made bigoted remarks about Islam and its prophet, Mohammed. One of the missionaries had a pig’s head mounted on a pole that he displayed in front of his group. Muslims don’t eat pigs because their faith teaches that the animal is unclean.

Some of the signs the missionaries held read: "Islam is a religion of blood and murder" and "Muhammad (Islam's prophet) is a ... liar, false prophet, murderer, child molesting pervert."

In Norway, the issue of whether he's sane or insane is actually very important - because if he's ruled insane he can be imprisoned for life. If he's sane, the maximum sentence he can receive is 21 years - but he'll be eligible for parole after 10 years.

John The Baptist Bones Possibly Discovered In Bulgarian Church

A group of archaeologists from Oxford Radiocarbon Accelerator Unit at Oxford University dated the knuckle bones found in 2010 by archaeologist Kazimir Popkonstantinov.

The results showed that it was that of a male dating back to 1st century AD who most probably came from the Middle East. This man is believed to be John the Baptist, the prophet who baptized Jesus Christ.

The remains, which include a knuckle bone, molar tooth and a piece of cranium, were found in July 2010 in a marble sarcophagus in the ruins of a medieval church on the island of Sveti Ivan, or Saint John, off Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast near the resort of Sozopol.

Uh, this might be a bad business decision on Adidas's new shoe design...

Adidas JS Roundhouse Mids come with 'slave' shackles

Adidas is facing enormous backlash after it announced the release of the new JS Roundhouse Mids on its Facebook page on June 14.

The sneaker sports what Adidas calls "bracelets," but consumers are equating them more to shackles. Adidas released the shoe's tagline, which reads, "Got a sneaker game so hot you lock your kicks to your ankles."

As of this morning, the Facebook post had over 36,000 likes, and 2,200 comments. One comment read, "I daresay that marketing & selling a shoe with a ‘chain & shackle’ accessory is a very bad idea. The ‘chain & shackle’ image has a bad connotation, that of slavery, in the African American community. I think it's inappropriate. The idea of being chained to Adidas or any object is repulsive."

The Huffington Post noted one comment that read, "“How would a Jewish person feel if Nike decided to have a shoe with a swastika on it and tried to claim it was OK in the name of fashion?”

JAIPUR, India — Police say a man upset over his daughter's lifestyle chopped her head off with a sword and then paraded it through his village before surrendering to authorities in western India.

Marble miner Ogad Singh's 20-year-old daughter had been living with her parents in the Rajasthani village of Dungarji after leaving her husband two years ago.

Police Superintendent Umesh Ojha says Singh was upset by his daughter having affairs with men, and became enraged when she eloped with one of them two weeks ago.

Ojha says Singh forced her to return home Sunday, and beheaded her Monday with a sword.

Rapidly modernizing India faces increasing social clashes as youths resist traditions like arranged marriage or limits on women venturing outside their parents' or husbands' homes.

Millionaire Tea Party Congressman weighs in on Obama's reprieving young undocumented immigrants from deportation, and of course makes himself look like an idiot.

Republican rep.: Young immigrants ‘had a say’ in crossing border

A Republican representative from Texas says that he opposes President Barack Obama’s policy of halting deportations for some young undocumented immigrants because 16-year-old kids “have a say” in whether or not they cross the border with their family.

“Well, you are also talking about people that came over 16 years of age,” Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-TX) told CNN’s Soledad O’Brien on Monday. “At that point you had a say in it, and that looks more like amnesty."
[...]
“They’re certainly in a position to have a conversation with their parents about it,” Farenthold insisted. “Believe me, my 16-year-old daughter has given me input on everything — pretty much everything the family wants to do.”

Mediaite’s Andrew Kirell noted that there was a big difference between the 16-year-old daughter of a wealthy congressman expressing her opinion and 16-year-old immigrants who have little choice but to follow their families across the border.

“Yes, the daughter of the 39th richest man in Congress, worth $8.57 million, is exactly like the children of the impoverished immigrants who decide to cross the border illegally,” Kirell snarked. “Their situations are perfectly comparable, right?”

Not really, not on the whole. You've read my rants about fixes needed in our system, and in a lot of ways Norway's system meets it.

A short period of isolation, followed by a period of gradually increasing but supervised freedom. The goal is to separate punishment (the short part) and rehabilitation.

And they've got a mechanism for the people who won't habilitate. "Nope, not safe for society. Extend the lockup." The five year review helps reduce error and abuse. (Not stops, just reduces.)

On a related note: Did Obama's immigration move make Marco Rubio a more likely veep pick?

Mitt Romney's gap with Hispanic voters is so wide that he may have no choice but to try to one-up Obama – perhaps by putting Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida on the GOP ticket.

With a funny quote from George Will

As conservative George Will put it on ABC's "This Week" Sunday: "[Republicans] spent the primary season competing to see who could build the longest, thickest, tallest, most lethally electrified fence. And Hispanics listening to this detected hostility – they're funny that way. And so Romney has a big hole to dig out of, because if he gets under, say, the 31 percent of Hispanic voters that McCain got, he's going to lose."

As a Jew, I am ashamed that Spencer and Geller are Jews too.

The makeup of the place has changed dramatically over the years. I think it's fair to say that some commentators in the long-ago time would fit that description.

I spent a little time recently over at WND and had a few inane exchanges with the ditto heads.

I don't normally do this and it is somewhat painful given the tone and level of the commentary. The one thing that stands out, aside from the gratuitous insults (and we can be insulting at times too) is that there is so little analysis of anything. Most of what one reads is just exclamations of Marxism, dictatorship, secularism and so on without the slightest attempt to explain why they think so. They just do, and the hate is palpable.

I have to think these people have always been there, but the difference between then and now is the internet has allowed them to crawl out, since they don't have to do it with pen and paper anymore, and they have spellcheckers.

I'd argue that this blog, while never being truly anti-Muslim, has dabbled in it from time to time. Many of the old-timers, long since banned, believed that all Muslims were either terrorists or supported terrorism, something that dipshits like Geller and Spencer convinced them to be the truth. Thankfully, this blog has undergone a renaissance of sorts and the ignorance of those days has been washed away.

But we are, and still remain, an anti-idiotarian blog.

Laws against Sharia Law would be analogous to laws against Biblical Law: completely unnecessary and superfluous. In the United States, we have separation of religion and state. Sure, there are people who want to see some or all of Sharia Law imposed in the United States. There are also people, like Rick Santorum, who want to see some or all of Biblical Law imposed in the United States. I'm not in favor of either viewpoint, but we don't need to outlaw either of them.

That's no coincidence. Funniest thing was when Newt the supposed scholar was equating secularism with Sharia. Really because strong separation of church and states results in theocracy. I don't think anyone advocates here that Israel be destroyed. re: #106 Eclectic Infidel

Just because someone is eligible for parole doesn't mean that they're let out. See also: David Berkowitz; Charles Manson; etc.

Some people are justifiably incarcerated for the rest of their lives because of the severity of the crimes committed.

That would be the case with Breivik. Even though the maximum sentence is 21 years, Norwegian law allows extended incarceration when the person poses an ongoing threat to the public for 5 year terms thereafter (forvaring). In effect, the law allows life imprisonment - it also requires periodic review of the cases.

re: #113 erik_t

Well, we need to talk about the goal of prisons before we're able to have any sort of intelligent conversation.

Keeping the public safe from predatory humans would be the first thing prisons are supposed to do. As for rehabilitation, how do you know when it's a genuine change of heart? Especially in a case like this, mass murder. Ihn any case I think this kind of undermines comparisons.

The key word here is always. Israel is not perfect, so it isn't always unfairly singled out (though it probably is much more often than it should be).

Muslims are often lumped together as a group and criticized unfairly. Does that mean Muslims should always defend other Muslims publicly and only criticize them in private?

There are people like this but you see. But you can't deny that it's pretty rare to see a moderate criticism of Israeli policy. People don't understand that it's not either black or white, that Israel faces difficult challenges, tough decisions.

Admittedly, I don't follow Israel all that closely, but the US media doesn't exactly rake Israel or its leaders over the coals.

re: #141 prairiefire

Question: Does anyone know of an over the counter medicine for spider venom?

wikipedia not that helpful in that regard. Looks like it depends largely on correctly diagnosing it as a spider bite, and knowing what kind it was.

Management
Most spider bites are harmless, and require no specific treatment. Treatment of bites may depend on the type of spider; thus, capture of the spider—either alive, or in a well-preserved condition, is useful.

In the case of bites by widow spiders, Australian venomous funnel-web spiders, or Brazilian wandering spiders, prompt medical attention should be sought as in some cases the bites of these spiders may develop into a medical emergency.

Treatment for non-poisonous spider bites include washing the bite with soap and water and ice to reduce inflammation. Analgesics and antihistamines may be used, however antibiotics are not recommended unless there is also a bacterial infection present.

Necrosis
There is no established treatment for necrosis. Recommendations include elevation and immobilization of the affected limb, application of ice, local wound care, and tetanus prophylaxis. Many other therapies have been used with varying degrees of success including hyperbaric oxygen, dapsone, antihistamines (e.g., cyproheptadine), antibiotics, dextran, glucocorticoids, vasodilators, heparin, nitroglycerin, electric shock, curettage, surgical excision, and antivenom. None of these treatments have been subjected to controlled, randomized trials to conclusively show benefit. In almost all cases, bites are self-limited and typically heal without any medical intervention.

Dapsone is commonly used in the USA and Brazil for the treatment of necrosis. There have been conflicting reports about its efficacy and some have suggested it should no longer be used routinely, if at all.

Other
Studies have shown surgical intervention is ineffective and may worsen outcome. Excision may delay wound healing, cause abscesses, and lead to objectionable scarring.
Use of antivenom for severe spider bites may be indicated, especially in the case of neurotoxic venoms. Effective antivenoms exist for Latrodectus, Atrax, and Phoneutria venom. Recluse bites are treatable by antivenom; an antivenom for Loxosceles bites is available in South America, and it appears antivenom may be the most promising therapy. However, the recluse antivenom is most effective if given early, and because of the relatively painless bite delivered by recluses, patients do not often present until 24 or more hours after the event, possibly limiting the effect of this intervention. Due to the risk of serum sickness, use of antivenom is generally not indicated unless serious symptoms are present, and/or a person fails to respond to other forms of treatment.

Yeah I think you're right that it was just Bristol but I think he did get derided for saying talking to his daughters had a role in the decision. Really stupid thing for the guy to say.

How is this a "really stupid" thing to say? I don't get it.

You know, Malia and Sasha, they've got friends whose parents are same-sex couples. And I-- you know, there have been times where Michelle and I have been sittin' around the dinner table. And we've been talkin' and-- about their friends and their parents. And Malia and Sasha would-- it wouldn't dawn on them that somehow their friends' parents would be treated differently. It doesn't make sense to them. And-- and frankly-- that's the kind of thing that prompts-- a change of perspective. You know, not wanting to somehow explain to your child why somebody should be treated-- differently, when it comes to-- the eyes of the law.

The above statement immediately followed the following paragraph about the overall generational shift affecting college Republicans:

And-- you know, it's interesting. Some of this is also generational. You know, when I go to college campuses, sometimes I talk to college Republicans who think that-- I have terrible policies on the-- the economy or on foreign policy. But are very clear that when it comes to same-sex equality or, you know-- sexual orientation that they believe in equality. They're much more comfortable with it.

I think the overall point was that not only are attitudes shifting, but they're shifting to the point where old arguments sound not only nonsensical but indefensible to most of the younger generations.

Yes, I understand. Do you understand that the same can be said of Muslims? I realize we're talking about two different things—one is a group of people who follow the same religion (Muslims/Islam) and the other is a state founded by a group of people who follow the same religion and it is based on a distinct religious identity (Jews/Israel). Still, that doesn't really matter when we're talking about whether or not criticism should be public or private.

If it's the first, topical anti-itch creams should work.

re: #149 Elias

There's a lot of places where hatred of Israel is propagandized and accepted-- like a lot of the countries in the Middle East. There's also a large segment of the population that is far more critical of Israel than they are of any other country-- European companies scolding Israel on the Palestinians always annoys me because of the mistreatment of the Roma in Europe, which is something highly addressable.

However, you kind of seem to be saying that criticizing Israeli policy in public is a no-no. That's silly. Israelis themselves don't act that way.

The thing about the BR is that the initial bite reaction gives you no idea about how large or bad the thing will evolve into over days / weeks. I think Dad said the scab when he first noticed it was really small, just a few square millimeters at most in size. OT: Father chops daughter's head off and parades it through village.

America ain't exactly an anti-Semitism zone, either. I've got some friends and family that prove that.

I'll say. There are people who seem to assume that because I'm Muslim I must dislike Jews, so they often feel quite free to say things that (I assume) they otherwise wouldn't. That pisses me off on a couple of levels.

re: #213 Elias

Really? That's surprising-- the anti-semitism I remember from France is the kind that led the French to hand more Jews over to the Germans than the Italians did, despite the French being on the Allied side.

Pro-palestinian demonstrators are highly visible, but Muslims are only about ten percent of the population, whereas:

The poll, released Tuesday, found nearly half of the French people surveyed said they think it is "probably true" that Jews there are more loyal to Israel than France, an increase from years past. Asked if Jews "still talk too much about what happened to them in the Holocaust," more than a third of the respondents agreed.

[Link: latimesblogs.latimes.com...]

So, I think that anti-semitism is still more represented by the non-Muslim population in France.

GOP Senate Candidate Says Businesses Should Be Allowed To Deny Health Insurance To Cancer Patients

During a freewheeling interview with the News and Tribune, Mourdock said health care will be the “biggest issue” this election. The Indiana Republican, who opposes the Affordable Care Act, argued that businesses should be permitted to deny coverage to employees with cancer “if they want to keep their health care costs down.” “Does that employer have the right to do it?” Mourdock asked. “I would say yes they do”

From the interview:

Of particular interest to the candidate is a mandate that requires an employer to pay for certain services they may be morally opposed to — such as birth control — which Mourdock said he opposes.

Mourdock’s example was an employer who decided to cover everything but cancer.

“Does that employer have the right to do it? I would say yes they do if they want to keep their health care costs down but it also means it’s less likely you’re going to want to work here. If that employer wants to get the best employees coming in the door he’s going to offer the best insurance possible.”

I get that you only want to talk about anti-semitism from the Muslim community, sure. I think you're underestimating the problem of non-Muslim anti-semitism. If nothing else, it makes the more extreme and violent anti-semitism more dangerous, because it's less likely to be prosecuted, investigated, etc.

Don't let your fear of Muslim anti-semitism blind you to the more present and systemic problems of old European anti-semitism-- especially since many of the most vocal anti-Muslims are racist shitheads who also hate Jews, however much they may pretend to love them in the current moment.

You do agree that there's a major problem with French xenophobia, right? Towards North Africans, Jews, Muslims, Roma?

241 Eclectic Infidel  Mon, Jun 18, 2012 2:46:00pm

After Toulouse, More Attacks on Jews

The beating of three Jewish men in Villeurbanne, outside of Lyon, by ten assailants believed to be of North African extraction is just the latest incident alarming French Jews.

Joël Mergui, president of the Central Consistory, an umbrella organization working to coordinate local Jewish communities, said the country’s Jews were under constant attack. “Not a week passes without anti-Semitic assaults in France. I refuse to believe Jews will be forced to choose between security and their Jewish identity.”

The chief rabbi of the Grand Synagogue in Lyon, Richard Wertenschlag, called the atmosphere “unbearable.”

“These incidents are becoming more and more frequent, so much so, alas, as to make one take them for granted,” he said

.

While French authorities talked about a crackdown on Muslim extremists after Toulouse, the Representative Council of Jewish Institutions in France (CRIF) told Le Figaro that incidents such as the one in Villeurbanne are becoming commonplace, noting that in the month after the incident, more than 140 attacks on Jews were perpetrated. But the problem is not just the scale of these assaults but also the unwillingness of many to confront the source of the problem.

Though attacks against Jews in Western Europe seem to be the province of Muslim immigrants, it is a mistake to view this violence as solely the result of the importation of Middle Eastern attitudes.

The flow of raw hate speech against Jews from Cairo and Tehran and other Arab and Muslim capitals is not to be underestimated, but the willingness of European intellectuals to lend their support to the demonization of the Jewish state has given these sentiments a patina of undeserved legitimacy.

The notion that there is a clean distinction between street violence and the effort to delegitimize Israel’s right to exist and defend itself cannot be sustained. European intellectuals may think they operate on a different level from street thugs. But the logical next step from the hounding of Jews on the editorial pages and in academia is clear. So long as Israel is singled out for unfair treatment and economic and academic boycotts of the Jewish state are treated as “human rights” causes, we should not be surprised that violence against Jews is on the upsurge.

re: #279 Mattand

Doxing itself is real. It's when someone releases personal info about you, usually gained through some hacking, on the web. "Dox" is hacker-ese for "documents."

I've generally seen it associated with Anonymous when they attack people. Ars Technicha has had some decent coverage of them over the last year or so. I'm wondering if Liberty Chick found one of these stories and decided it to bullshit it up, like the swatting stuff.

Scary leet libtard hackzorz R in UR webs, hackzing UR dox. Or something.

Yeah, I know about "doxing," but "rapid doxing" is a new one.

These Twitter attackers have super-powers. They can find personal info on anyone in mere seconds just by looking at their Twitter profile. Dang, that's scary.

286 lawhawk  Mon, Jun 18, 2012 3:54:56pm

Doxing....

Doxing is a technique of tracing someone or gather information about an individual using sources on the internet. Its name is derived from “Documents” or “Docx”. Doxing method is based purely on the ability of the hacker to recognize valuable information about his target and use this information to his benefit.

But how long will it take for this meme "rapid doxing" to catch on? I give it 24 hours.

Actually, she is saying that the doxing is rapid. This would be the doxing:

There's currently an organized intimidation attack...involving rapid research...

The rest:

...on #RO12 tag...on responding targets. Block/report any abuse - RT

Means that whoever was doing this supposed "rapid doxing" was monitoring replies to the #RO12 hashtag looking for wingnuts to dox. Block/report may mean they were being baited and should report anyone who was doing so instead of responding (fat chance of that happening).

The whole thing is kind of nonsensical.

The January 2009 newsletter was published under Hovde company letterhead and advised clients to “Let Uncle Sam Pay for Your Acquisition.” The title of the memo referred to a change in the Treasury Department’s interpretation of the tax code, which allowed firms to write off larger pre-acquisition losses of distressed companies they acquired.

Rubio Says Own Dream Act Derailed for Now

“People are going to say to me, ‘Why are we going to need to do anything on this now. It has been dealt with. We can wait until after the election,’” Sen. Rubio said in an interview. “And it is going to be hard to argue against that.”

In conceding that his own push was likely dead for now, Mr. Rubio also expressed anger at how the White House made its announcement Friday without consulting him or other members of the Republican Party. “We have never talked to anyone in the White House about their plans,” he said. “The only thing the White House has ever done about our ideas was to try to get some of the Dream Act kids not work with us.”
...
In the interview, Mr. Rubio blamed both Republicans and Democrats for lacking proper perspective on the issue. He expounded at some length on the need for legal changes to acknowledge that many illegal immigrants in the country came for the right reasons.

“We have to recognize that these are human beings, the vast majority of whom come here in search of a better life and better opportunities,” he said. “We have to approach this issue with a level of strong compassion for that human element as well.”

Sort of but not really.
Why some illegal immigrants aren't celebrating Obama’s new policy

The catch, says Mr. Rico, is that ICE still holds the authority – Obama is only asking it to defer deportations. So far, the agency that has to some extent stonewalled the president’s previous calls to go easy on younger Latino immigrants. ICE deported a record 396,906 people during fiscal year 2011.

Obama has already attempted to rein in ICE. Last August, for example, he asked it to deport only the worst and most hardened criminals. But many undocumented immigrants do not trust the agency, and that might prevent them from coming "out of the shadows," as Sen. Richard Durbin (D) of Illinois put it, to apply for a deferral.

“We’ve got one person, Obama, saying you’re going to be safe," says Rico.

The Department of Homeland Security, of which ICE is a part, essentially acknowledge that in a press release. “Deferred action requests are decided on a case-by-case basis. DHS cannot provide any assurance that all such requests will be granted. The use of prosecutorial discretion confers no substantive right, immigration status or pathway to citizenship. Only the Congress, acting through its legislative authority, can confer these rights.”

It remains to be seen how much of an effect Obama's Presidential order will have.

Mitt Romney: Obama should get no credit for fixing economy

Mitt Romney abandoned his campaign bus briefly to take a boat trip up the Mississippi River in this eastern Iowa town, his second stop on day four of his five-day tour of six battleground states.

As he has at other stops on his itinerary, Romney used the occasion to hammer President Barack Obama on the economy. But it's tougher to hit home his message in Iowa, which is doing better economically than other key swing states. Among other things, Iowa's unemployment rate is currently 5.2 percent—several points lower than the national average.

As he has in recent days, Romney tweaked his stump speech a bit to acknowledge the reality that the economy has shown signs of improvement since Obama took office in 2009. But, speaking to a small group of supporters on "The Spirit of Dubuque," Romney said Obama doesn't deserve credit for any recovery.

"He doesn't understand how the policies he put in place made it harder for this economy to recover," Romney said. "And so today, I hope things are getting better. I think they are, the economy. I sure hope so. But it's no thanks to him. It's in spite of him."

Yeah because the economy was doing so gosh darned well before Obama got elected, the no good Commie just came in and tanked everything!

Tell me how any of Obama's policies are worse than the LACK of policies that got us into the financial mess in the first place.

Also, if you are trying to appeal to the average American, does it really make sense to campaign on a giant boat adorned with American flags?

Also don't forget the stringent Immigration laws passed by Arizona, Georgia, Mississippi and Alabama along with other states. The Supreme Court is expected rule soon on the Arizona measure. IF Arizona wins the challenge, the laws these states have enacted will run in direct contrast to the executive order Obama just issued.

It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Yeah, his relaxed medical marijuana prosecution plan doesn't seem to have relaxed much of anything.

I've looked and haven't seen any evidence that the DEA or other fed agencies under Obama have raided a single marijuana dispensary that was operating legally according to State and local law. So far it looks like all the raids conducted have been to shut down operations that were conducting business without permits. If there's evidence to the contrary I'd love to see it.

I tried making some edit, it lost the format, I wound up re embedding. If I post a photograph with a tweet and embed it, will that work ok or should I do that differently? Wondering what happens if I post a 500K image with a twitter post and embed. Or should I keep to the 200k limit there if I plan to re post here?

Reads to me like a mash-up of two different talking points I've heard from wingnuts since last year, namely the "In Spite Of" and "Not Good Enough" ones. The first being that any recovery that happens is "In Spite Of" Obama's policies, that the economy would have recovered regardless. And the other is that thing are "Not Good Enough" because Obama's policies are holding the economy back.

Even if there is some political advantage it's not all upside for the President and it's not clear what the net effect will be. Statements and executive orders come with real world political liabilities as well. In a world where much of the electorate believes in literalistic legal interpretations Obama now stands against a purely strict "the law is the law" simple minded mentality. He got DADT reversed, he stopped defending DOMA in court even before he came out in favor of gay marriage, and now he's single handedly changing law enforcement policy with regards to certain illegal immigrants raised here as children.

These actions will have negative consequences for him in energizing his social conservative opposition, and even if the primary motivation in enacting them is to get votes the actions themselves also add to the overall inertia of societal change.

Mitt Romney: The Economy is Being Held Back... by the very failed policies which I wholeheartedly endorse and which the Congressional GOP have been trying to enact over Obama's protests for the better part of 4 years.

From Cal NORML

Cal NORML Release Jun 8,2012

Yesterday, Attorney General Eric Holder lied to the House Judiciary Committee in testifying that his agency is only going after medical cannabis dispensaries and growers that are going "beyond what states had authorized."

Just days ago, the DOJ announced a new round of landlord letters in Los Angeles County. Targets included the Hope Collective in Whittier, which had been operating in full accordance with an ordinance approved by the city council in 2006. The collective's director, Robert Ortiz, says he was careful to operate transparently and in compliance with city rules, applying for an operating permit in 2009, and only opening in 2010 after receiving a conditional use permit with 49 conditions attached.

Many other well regarded, legally regulated medical cannabis facilities in California have been targeted by DOJ landlord letters despite taking pains to comply with local and state regulations. Examples include: the Berkeley Patients Group; the Marin Alliance in Fairfax; the Vapor Room, Hope Net, Divinity Tree, Shambhala, Medithrive and others in San Francisco; Coffee Shop Blue Sky and Oaksterdam University in Oakland; and Northstone Organics in Mendocino. In all of these cases, DOJ's actions have been denounced by local officials, but US Attorneys have insolently disregarded community sentiment.

In addition, DOJ has threatened state and local officials not to pass laws authorizing legal medical marijuana. In Mendocino County, the US attorney browbeat county supervisors into rescinding the sheriff's highly successful outdoor cultivation inspection system, which was bringing growers into compliance with security and environmental regulations and raised over $600,000 for the sheriff's department.

The DOJ's bad faith seriously impugns the credibility and competence of A.G. Holder and his administration.

He'll unleash it by being white.

Sad thing is that sociologically there's probably something to that. Perception is / influences reality and a rather huge class of investors simply either are / have chosen / or allowed themselves to be unsettled by a black President.

Not at all. In fact, I'm quite impressed the economy as increased on the upward swing as quickly as it has. From what I've seen, our industrial output is up to what it was pre-recession, more or less. What isn't up-to-snuff is the employment rate, and well, 3 things to say about that:

1) Employment is the most trailing indicator of recovery, not the leading indicator

AND

2) Our global and national economy has radically shifted - what was "employable" 5-10 years ago is simply not "employable" now, and we need to learn to make the shift

AND

3) Why should corporations hire when they have employees scared shitless to hang on to their jobs and produce more for no extra compensation? The big-wigs are enjoying this now.

A little bit of all these, if you ask me.

I don't doubt it, but I think the constant, daily drumbeat of how another recession is "right around the corner" is keeping people hesitant to get out there and spend money. Up til yesterday, we had doom-and-gloomers informing us that if the Greeks elected anybody but the pro-euro parties, that the markets would crash today and we'd be in another recession. Well, the pro-euros did get elected, and what do we hear now? "Spain's on the verge of collapse!"

Well, personally, I think the Greek election results are good news. I think the "conservatives" there are on par with the "liberals" here, economically speaking.

But you're right about the gloom-and-doom forecast. Doesn't help anything, and you're right that there's a lot of vested interest in seeing to it that confidence in the US economy remains low, for the time-being.

Heh. I see Pamela Geller replied to the Wonkette article on her wildly incoherent post (conspicuously ignoring the source, LGF), claiming she was in a rough cab ride and didn't realize it had been posted.

That must explain why she typed "Dan Wallace."

Truth is, drunk or not, the hateful intent behind her words comes through very clearly no matter how sloppily -- or carefully -- it's written.

She may have revealed one of her "secrets" to writing inspired blog posts. First, get into a cab with a driver who "looks Muslim" to her. (If necessary, drink until any driver would "look Muslim".) Once she's in the cab, and watching the city go by, the artistic process begins. She contemplates the back of the poor driver's head, and imagines him to be a terrorist on a mission to bring down those tall buildings, because he's jealous of the "job creators" who built them. Now she's in the creative zone! She pulls out the laptop, gives polemic inspiration free reign, and hits Post. Yeah, baby!
