Teenage Conservative Apostate Laughs Off Tribal Attacks

It is to laugh
Wingnuts • Views: 34,174

As a recovering wingnut I’ve lived through this too, and Jonathan Krohn is handling it the best way possible — with a sense of humor focused on the future: Jonathan Krohn Laughs Off Bitter Conservative Reprisals.

Republicans had largely forgotten about Krohn since turning him into a star speaker and author in 2009 at the tender age of 13. But that didn’t mean they were happy to let him go, reacting to a Politico interview in which he said he now supported President Obama with a torrent of unrestrained rage.

The Daily Caller led the charge. Gregg Re started things offwith a profanity-filled screed from a spurned conservative who attended Krohn’s big CPAC speech in 2009 and apparently demanded anonymity to tell Re the 17-year-old was a “douche.”

Re then took to Twitter to snipe at Krohn for expressing his views while denying his article — “Tired Of Being Typecast As Conservative, ‘Douche’ Actor and CPAC speaker Jonathan Krohn Turns to Liberalism — was meant as an attack.

“If I’d given a speech as devoid of thought as [Krohn] (and made money from it), I’d call myself a douche,” Daily Caller intern Justin Green chimed in.

Another Daily Caller editor, Peter Tucci, wrote an op-ed praising Krohn’s “intellectual integrity” but adding that much of his criticism was nontheless “deserved.” Soon after, however, he joined in a sparring match of his own with Krohn on Twitter, dropping repeated references to his “hipster glasses” and throwing out such witty barbs as “Oops, I overestimated you. You’re not mature after all. I take back my praise.”

Krohn told TPM he takes the attacks in stride. He spent much of Tuesday engaging with critics and supporters alike on Twitter, in between a stop at his grandmother’s 80th birthday and a haircut ahead of his appearance on Hardball that evening.

“Nothing’s really stung me, all of its just so absurd,” he said. “My favorite was someone who tweeted at me ‘You betrayed God and William Bennett, you little bastard!’ Because apparently they’re on the same plateau in this person’s mind.”

It is not uncommon for a thirteen-year-old to parrot his parents' political ideas, and especially if you agree with them and the kid is bright, that can sound very clever on the child's part.

It is not uncommon for a seventeen-year-old to hold ideas more left-wing than his parents, and to sound like an idiot, if you don't agree with those ideas.

Jonathan Krohn appears to be developmentally on-track. I'm glad he's doing well. I wondered what was going to beome of him.

Putatively a news story, the Daily Caller’s piece is an exercise in cleansing conservatives of the humiliation they now feel for having celebrated a child as an intellectual thought leader. Once they gloried in his rise. William Bennett boasted that Krohn — as a ten-year-old! — used to call in to his radio show offering “keen” insights.

This is a joke, right? You've repeatedly conflated attacks on the GOP with attacks on your family. Just recently you cited your own change of opinion to:

There is also the fact that both my father and best friend would rather have their foot blown off than vote for Obama. They reminded me of why its better if Obama loses, and some Obama's actions since completed the cure.

Don't ask me to elaborate, because I won't.

They would rather have their foot blown off? Gee, that's sounds like a level headed, reasonable point of view. Anyway, don't worry, I won't ask you to elaborate, however the idea that you've come to hold the opinions you do independently as an autonomous adult is kind of, well, a hard sell.

Ah. OK. Jonathan Krohn is just getting the same treatment from the right wing as imaginary person who speaks out against OWS gets from the left. Got it.

Exactly.

I've heard many people speak out against OWS, but they do it without the hate. Most of them think that OWSers are a little nutty and it ends at that.

When this kid or a Sandra Fluke speak out, the right lets their hate flags fly. I say there is a huge difference.

So noted. And it does help explain why he he went in for Obama: Unlike people like Limbaugh and Savage, Obama does not sound like an insane person.

I can relate to the kid so I'll take a stab at it: Obama is far more brutal and ruthless in "the war on terror" (or whatever it's called these days) than Bush ever was. The model for Obamacare came from Romney and was once held up as the free market "conservative" solution to the healthcare crisis. Social conservatism is a dinosaur philosophy and most of what is passed off as "fiscal conservatism" is thinly veiled social conservatism. The kid saw through the ruse. As much as the lefties are going to praise him for jumping shit they are going to shit all over him as soon as he goes against silencing Rush or boycotting a conservative run cancer charity. They only love him as long as he serves their political goals.

CNN/Fortune made a small follow-up to their Fast and Furious piece to address some commenter questions:

[Link: finance.fortune.cnn.com...]

Since Fortune published "The Truth about the Fast and Furious Scandal" on June 27, thousands of comments have been posted on Fortune.com either praising or vilifying the article. Among the questions often raised by critics of the article (including Sen. Charles Grassley) concern assertions that the ATF encouraged gun dealers to sell weapons to known traffickers. If the ATF was encouraging such sales, the argument goes, it would be proof that the agency had a policy to allow weapons to fall into the hands of Mexican drug cartels, the core contention in what is known as the Fast and Furious scandal.

In the six months of investigations that led Fortune to conclude that the ATF had no policy to intentionally permit weapons to be trafficked, we examined 2,000 pages of ATF records, Congressional reports and testimony, and interviewed 39 people involved in or knowledgeable about the case. That body of evidence shows the ATF did not have a policy of encouraging gun dealers to sell to traffickers. Until now, the alleged encouragement of gun-dealers has not been a central focus of the Fast and Furious scandal. As a result, we did not address those points in the article. However, given the interest in this question, we thought it was worth taking readers through the evidence on this point.

Since nobody's forcing anybody to vote a certain way and that's not even on the horizon as a plausible possibility, I read the statement as one of metaphorical oppositional absolutism instead of reading it hyperliterally. I believe the clear implication was that there was no candidate even theoretically bad enough to support Obama against.

While the tax vs. not tax might not make sense initially, it actually does make sense when you think of it in these terms: SCOTUS must afford acts of Congress deference and make an effort to save laws passed by Congress from unconstitutionality. As Roberts noted, ”Every reasonable construction must be resorted to, in order to save a statute from unconstitutionality.” (Majority opinion, pp. 3 and 32. [pgs. 3 and 38 of my PDF].) Ginsburg agreed: “When a court confronts an unconstitutional statute, its endeavor must be to conserve, not destroy the legislature’s dominant objective.” (Ginsburg opinion, p. 61 [pg. 126 of my PDF].) ”[Link: angryblackladychronicles.com...]

The 2008 Presidential election where 99 percent of African-Americans voted for Barack Obama mocks that assertion. In the end, whether you love the truth or hate it makes no difference, the truth remains exactly what it is. 99 percent of African-Americans voted for Barack Obama, and they did so based on the color of his skin. This latest decision just cements my belief. I like Roberts as a Chief Justice, even if I'll probably disagree with his interpretation more than half the time.

The pundit response has been interesting. Kathleen Parker did a really remarkable column which basically, I think, boiled down to:

1. Liberals put pressure on Roberts to vote for Obamacare, 'crucified' him, and then resurrected him when he voted with them.

2. Roberts really doesn't like Obamacare, he's a conservative and a devout Catholic, so he obviously hates it. (Me: Catholic has what to do huh?)

3. He doesn't like you stupid liberals! You didn't win anything! And the decision said that what Obama said was constitutional wasn't constitutional, so there!

4. Obamacare is bad for middle-class Americans, and they would never have let it get this far if they knew how bad. Bad, bad, bad!

5. This is just a win for the insurance companies.

Timbuktu tomb destroyers pulverise Islam's history

Over the last three days, Islamists of the Ansar Dine rebel group which in April seized Mali's north along with Tuareg separatists destroyed at least eight Timbuktu mausoleums and several tombs, centuries-old shrines reflecting the local Sufi version of Islam in what is known as the "City of 333 Saints".

For centuries in Timbuktu, an ancient Saharan trading depot for salt, gold and slaves which developed into a famous seat of Islamic learning and survived occupations by Tuareg, Bambara, Moroccan and French invaders, local people have worshipped at the shrines, seeking the intercession of the holy individuals.

This kind of popular Sufi tradition of worship is anathema to Islamists like the Ansar Dine fighters - Defenders of the Faith - who adhere to Salafism, which is linked to the Wahhabi puritanical branch of Sunni Islam found in Saudi Arabia.
...
Experts are comparing the Timbuktu tomb destructions to similar attacks against Sufi shrines by hardline Salafists in Egypt and Libya in the past year. The attacks also recall al Qaeda attacks on Shi'ite shrines in Iraq in the past decade and the 2001 dynamiting by the Taliban of two 6th-century statues of Buddha carved into a cliff in Bamiyan in central Afghanistan.

"It's against everybody and everything," said University of Cape Town Professor Shamil Jeppie, an expert on Timbuktu who co-edited with Diagne a 2008 study, "The Meanings of Timbuktu", on the city's priceless archaeology and ancient manuscripts.

Mali's government in the capital Bamako about 1,000 km (600 miles) south has condemned the attacks, but is powerless to halt them after its army was routed by rebels in April. It is still struggling to bolster a return to civilian rule after a March 22 coup that emboldened the rebel uprising further north.

One hotel swaps out Bibles for Kindles

The ubiquitous Bible in the bedside drawer of a hotel room is getting a technology upgrade in Britain, where the Hotel Indigo, located in Newcastle, is swapping out its paper Bibles for Kindles pre-loaded with the text.

The hotel is scheduled to try it out for a two-week period, from yesterday to July 16, and plans have been made to extend the service to the company’s 44 locations around the world if it’s a success.

South Korea proposes "scientific" whaling at Panama meeting

South Korea angered conservationists on Wednesday by proposing to conduct whaling for scientific research, a practice that critics say would skirt a global ban on whale hunting.

South Korea announced its proposal at a meeting of the International Whaling Commission in Panama City. Critics say the move was modeled on Japan's introduction of scientific whaling after a 1986 moratorium on commercial whaling.

Japan argues it has a right to monitor the whales' impact on its fishing industry.

"South Korea announced its intention to resume whale hunting for scientific purposes," said Tomas Guardia, Panama's representative to the international body.

Speaking of the IDF, they seem to have taken a page from T.E. Lawrence in their Desert Reconnaissance Battalion: It is almost entirely formed of Bedouin Arabs. Here's its photoset and here is its write-up from Flickr:

Last week, the Desert Reconnaissance Battalion conducted a drill in the Urban Warfare Training Center, simulating fighting in populated cities. The drill was conducted to assure maximum efficiency while fighting in urban centers by focusing solely on hostile targets.

The Desert Reconnaissance Battalion, also known as "the natural detectives" is comprised almost entirely of Bedouins whom, though exempt from service, volunteered to serve in the IDF. These soldiers use their unique abilities to track down infiltrators and other threats in the vast Israeli desert.

Ok, the list is supposed to be by American authors only, so yes, Ayn Rand was selected, to balance out Cesar Chavez no doubt.

Note that the Book of Mormon isn't on the list, though it clearly has influenced American history and even the current election.

Pondering the 4th of July, now that it is almost gone here on the left coast, I am concerned about the rise of militarism during my lifetime and my parent's lifetime (essentially since the beginning of the 20th century.)

Were the founders in the 1770's really so big on the centrality of the military in "patriotism"?

257 AK-47%  Thu, Jul 5, 2012 12:08:16am

our military has gone from being a means of defending our freedom and independence to a means of securing our access to trade routes and resources.

258 sagehen  Thu, Jul 5, 2012 12:10:14am

In a word, no.

The founders in the 1770's didn't believe the nation should have a standing army at all, they'd just call up the militias when there was a specific (temporary) need.

It wasn't until the westward expansion got going across the Plains that the need started to look somewhat less occasional-and-temporary, but even then it wasn't large.

WWII was an all-hands draft, after WWII the selective service began being more selective, and it wasn't until the draft ended (after Vietnam) that we began to have a military caste that's somewhat dissociated from the civilian world.

I ask because so often today when I come across something that is supposedly "patriotic" that "military" is part of the package. This includes all that smarmy symbolism (red, white, and blue), obsession with gauche trinkets, and so on.

Yes, the antiquarian branch of the paleo-conservatives, who have some sort of utopian view of pre-industrial, pre-Civil War America. If only we'd revert to the charters of the more self-aware Christian colonies then life would be the Kingdom on Earth.

Many outspoken paleo-conservatives pass very harsh judgement on the neo-conservatives, and I wonder why, really. Sometimes the paleos cast their arguments around rejecting the neo-conservatives continual desire to use the military overseas, yet in so much of the paleo-conservative worldviews that are expressed in print (online or paper) the military and military victories are highly regarded also.

Ironically enough, the event that triggered our foray into professional equipment was an amateur night gone awry. We had been shooting the little cardboard mortars when one blew out and launched directly at the crowd. Thankfully, we had at least maintained sufficient separation, so it landed and went off at a harmless distance, but it made us nervous enough that we decided to go full-scale, both in safety and in firepower.

Most fireworks are illegal in Minnesota, so the few that dare usually make runs down I-94 to Wisconsin to get them. Minnesota state patrols are usually extremely sharp at picking off fireworks smugglers. I can't say I've ever really bothered. After shooting the big guns, amateur night just doesn't hold the same appeal.

WikiLeaks releases 2.4 million Syria emails.

WikiLeaks has begun publishing more than 2 million emails from Syrian political figures that it says will shed light on the regime's crackdown on dissent and embarrass Syria's opponents.

The emails date back to 2006 but also cover the past 16 months, in which thousands have been killed in a bloody crackdown by Syrian president Bashar al-Assad's forces.

The whistleblowing website says the files will give an insight into how the Assad government operates, and also reveal Western countries and businesses which continue to support Syria.

"They also reveal how the West and Western companies say one thing and do another," the organisation said.

The most spectacular show we ever shot was one year when it started raining just before the show was ready to start. We had already loaded the whole field with the first rounds, and we were NOT going to let all that money go to waste. We immediately lit our flares and started shooting like there was no tomorrow. We shot the entire field of mortars in about 30 seconds flat, and wouldn't you know it, when we were done, the rain had stopped. We continued the show at a more leisurely pace, but that initial shot still reduced our show time to about 5 minutes. Still, at the end, the crowd gave us a standing ovation and said it was the most intense and awesome show we'd put on yet.

I do think the GOP politicians are not like this but they don't dare act like deal making politicians lest they incur the wrath of their base. That is the real surprise thing about the GOP in my view. That the GOP leadership has been able to make gains by frothing up their base which only leads to their base becoming more kooky and a Frankenstein's monster for the GOP.

At least it wasn't a fireworks mishap injuring folks, as in this NH incident, where someone who is known for throwing an illegal fireworks bash had the fireworks go off in the house, injuring 9 people.

And someone was killed in IN from a fireworks accident. In that incident, the guy was using a metal mortar tube, and a firework he placed in there, went off immediately, striking the guy in the face.

One of the first lessons you learn in fireworks safety training: You squat beside the tube at full arm's length and use the fuse to lower the shell. At no time does any part of your body cross the muzzle.

The thing about picking Bachmann, though, is that it absolutely cements the fanatical evangelical vote. Not that many of them would really vote for Obama, but many would probably sit out the election if it came down to a Mitt/Unknown vs. Obama/Biden contest. Picking a stark raving nutjob who is well on with the evangelical base would go a long way toward mollifying any lingering anti-Mormon feelings in the Christian community.

I went to the bakery down the street that just opened a couple months ago. They had chipotle chocolate cupcakes. I took a couple of them home. Ajua! Man they were good. In Afghanistan, another turncoat shooting wounds five Americans

KABUL, Afghanistan — An Afghan soldier opened fire on a group of American troops, wounding five of them, Western and Afghan military officials said Wednesday.

The attack, which took place Tuesday in Wardak province in eastern Afghanistan, was the second incident of its kind in three days. On Sunday, an Afghan policeman shot and killed three British soldiers.

The phenomenon of "green-on-blue" shootings, in which members of the Afghan security forces turn their weapons on Western troops, has become a serious concern in recent months. At least 26 NATO troops have been killed this year in such attacks.

Pakistani mob burns alleged blasphemer

BAHAWALPUR, Pakistan, July 5 (UPI) -- A violent mob of more than 1,000 people beat and burnt alive a man who allegedly threw pages from the Koran into the street, police said.

Bahawalpur police described the man, whose name was not reported, as "deranged," and arrested him Tuesday, The Express Tribune reported Wednesday.

Shortly after the incident, the crowd of 1,500 to 2,000 people gathered outside the Chanighot police station, burning police vehicles and demanding officers hand over the alleged blasphemer, the newspaper reported.

Officer Ghulam Mohiuddin Gujjar said nine police officers were injured in the incident, during which they tried to fend off the mob using tear gas.

Once the mob took custody of the man, they doused him in gasoline and set him afire, The Express Tribune reported.

Police said they are investigating the incident and reinforcement was sent to Bahawalpur to bring the area under control.

More saber rattling coming out of Iran...

Iran: We Can Hit 35 US Bases in 'Minutes'

An Iranian military commander said that his country has detailed contingency plans to strike nearly three dozen U.S. military bases in the region should Iran be attacked, local media reported Wednesday.

Brig. Gen. Amir Ali Hajizadeh, the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force, told reporters the U.S. has 35 bases around Iran and all are "within the reach of our missiles" and could be hit "in the early minutes after an attack," according to an English-language report from Iran's semi-official Fars News Agency. The bases were no threat but instead an "opportunity" for the Iranian military, Hajizadeh said last month, according to Fars.

Hajizadeh's claims come as the IRGC conducts a major military exercise in which it has fired a barrage of missiles at "mock enemy bases" set up in the Iranian desert. Another IRGC commander, Brig. Gen. Hossein Salami, told reporters Tuesday the main aim of the drill "was to demonstrate the Iranian nation's political resolve to defend [its] vital values and national interests," according to Iran's state-run Press TV.

Press TV paraphrased Salami's description of the drills as a "firm response to those who threaten Iran with the option of military action."

Hello everyone.

I am only now reading the VF piece on Romney's financial shenanigans. I didn't realize that Romney makes money via vulture capitalist investments:

Likewise, the Romneys were reported to have invested at least $1 million in Elliott Associates, L.P., a hedge fund specializing in “distressed assets.” Elliott buys up cheap debt, often at cents on the dollar, from lenders to deeply troubled nations such as Congo-Brazzaville, then attacks the debtor states with lawsuits to squeeze maximum repayment.

Add it to the pile, I suppose. Plus all the stuff about how Bain basically lied in order to minimize the taxable value of the shares it was handing out to its executives is eye-opening to say the least.

San Diego fireworks suffer "premature ignition"

The city's big kaboom ka-bombed on Wednesday night.

The Coast Guard says the Fourth of July fireworks in San Diego Bay were cancelled after a "premature ignition" occurred on at least three of the four barges involved in a show produced by a New jersey company that put on huge pyrotechnics at the Olympic Games and the Statue of Liberty.

"I've never seen so many fireworks go off at one time," said Rich Dann, a search-and-rescue controller with the Coast Guard. "I saw what looked like a fireworks finale. It lasted a minute or two and then it was over. We thought maybe they were trying to get everyone's attention."

"By 9:15 p.m. people were standing around and that was it. "

There is a joke in here somewhere.

WikiLeaks on Thursday announced that it was releasing 2,434,899 emails from Syrian political figures, ministries, and associated companies, sent between August 2006 and March 2012.

According to WikiLeaks, the emails come from “680 Syria-related entities or domain names, including those of the Ministries of Presidential Affairs, Foreign Affairs, Finance, Information, Transport and Culture,” and the documents include 678,752 different email addresses and 1,082,447 different recipients. The emails were sent in several languages: approximately 400,000 are in Arabic and approximately 68,000 are in Russian. 42,000 of the emails were infected with viruses or trojans.

Only a handful of the documents had been released by mid-morning Thursday, but WikiLeaks claimed in a statement that the emails included “intimate correspondence of the most senior Baath party figures” and “records of financial transfers sent from Syrian ministries to other nations.”

Thousands of people have died in the 16-month rebellion in Syria that has been brutally put down by the Assad regime.

Save California: Bill Limiting Ex-Gay Therapy is 'Locking Children into Homosexual Bondage'

After the California State Senate and an Assembly committee approved a bill placing limits on sexual orientation conversion therapy, the right-wing group Save California is framing the legislation as an attack on victims of child abuse. Relying on the discredited claim that homosexuality is a result of molestation, Save California is urging members to contact legislators to stop “this horrible bill locking children into homosexual bondage” that will prohibit counseling for those “who have often been molested or raped.” “What lack of love for children suffering from gender confusion disorder, who’ve often been molested and become confused as a result,” the group maintains, including an image stating: “Democrat politicians to molested kids: No help for you.” Led by the virulently anti-gay activist Randy Thomasson, Save California also recently launched a new page, “Not Born This Way” to expose the supposed “myths” about homosexuality.

Racism rears it's ugly head in Michigan. Fellow Democrats are saying Rep. Hansen Clarke (D-MI) is not 'black enough'.

Congressman Accused Of ‘Playing Black’ Says Racism Destroying Detroit

Congressman Hansen Clarke, D-13th District, was forced into an unusual position Wednesday, responding to allegations that he’s masquerading as black to get votes.

Clarke is running for the newly redrawn 14th Congressional District, which includes Detroit, against two black women, Mary Waters and Brenda Lawrence, plus white men state Rep. Gary Peters and newcomer Bob Costello. Clarke joined one debate this election, a digital debate for CBSDetroit, then said he would no longer debate because the racial rhetoric was becoming overwhelming.

A robocall allegedly went on in the district this week saying Clarke is “not black.” And Waters told the Detroit Free Press she’s the only black Detroiter in the race.

A visibly upset Clarke called Talk Radio 1270 host Charlie Langton to discuss the race issue live, and talked about the issue again at a Detroit church appearance.

“Who really gives a care right now?,” Clarke told Langton. “My opponents are so desperate they can’t attack me based on what we’re doing, based on my record, so they’re going after my poor deceased parents who have been dead for 30 years.

Opponents have pointed out that Clarke’s mother’s death certificate lists her race as white, though Clarke describes himself as “multiracial” with a light-skinned black mother and Indian father.

Clarke said about his mother’s death certificate: “That’s the way it is, sometimes people viewed light-skinned black folks as being white.”

Beyond that, he said his mother’s race shouldn’t matter.

That's despicable. WTF is wrong with the Democrats in Detroit?

I thought about that last night too. I think they're both similar cases. In both situations they were parroting what the adults were talking about which is why it didn't stick. Johnathan is obviously a very bright kid but he was doing a mini-Bill O'Reilly act. Ultimately that brand of conservatism has no youth appeal. I think if it was genuinely done from his own revelations it would have been significantly different than Fox News conservatism. Youth appeal for conservatives can work (see Ron Paul) but it would take significant rebranding.

Clarke was born in Detroit, Michigan to father Mozaffar Ali Hashim, an immigrant from the region of India that would become Bangladesh, and an African American mother, Thelma Clarke. He grew up in the city's lower east side. His father died when he was a child and his mother worked as a crossing guard to support her family. Clarke attended Cass Technical High School, and later graduated from Governor Dummer Academy, a Massachusetts boarding school.

Detroit's been crapped on to the point where its residents are understandably mistrustful of anyone who doesn't have the right local connections. Does this mean that people play the race card? Yes. Does it mean that those people are evil? No. It's just an unfortunate situation all around.

Do I pay any attention to Mitt "let Detroit fail" Romney voters who accuse defensive black politicians of racism?

Emphatically NO.

Syria: top-level defection reported - Thursday 5 July 2012

Manaf Tlass, a brigadier-general in the republican guard and a son of former defence minister Mustafa Tlass, has reportedly fled to Turkey. A Damascus-based website claims to have confirmation from "a highly placed source in intelligence". If true, the defection will be a major blow to the Assad regime.

Fischer Rewrites American History so it Corresponds to the Bible

Since Fischer believes that America was established by God and founded by Christians for Christians, then everything that happened in establishing this nation must be fundamentally godly because to say otherwise is to believe that the nation was founded on evil.

This framework popped up again on Tuesday when Fischer discussed the American Revolution and claimed that it "was not a war of rebellion" because rebellion against governing authorities is a violation of Romans 13:

Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.

Since Romans 13 says that all governing authorities have been established by God and that rebellion against them is rebellion against God, it was necessary for Fischer to explain why the American Revolution was not actually a rebellion. And he did that by claiming that once the colonies declared their independence from England, they had formed a new and sovereign government, meaning that the subsequent war that erupted was the result of a foreign power (i.e. England) invading our "sovereign, free, and independent territory":

Looks like the wheels are coming off the Assad regime. Does he flee and try to get asylum somewhere? Most modern dictators seem to opt to stay in country and hide in a ditch hoping for the best.

I wasn't aware that "Prussian Blue" was code for gas. Damn, that's creepy. Glad they changed and hope they stay on the right path.

Not sure it was, but might be a confusion with Prussic Acid, an old term for a cyanide compound.

"Prussian blue lent its name to prussic acid, which was derived from it,"

From the Wikipedia entry.

So these kids change their mind and get attacked,.. rather than express disappointment in them that they disagree, they express rage and betrayal. will definitely serve to prevent these kids from re-thinking their current positions...

Yeah. They used a lot of toxins. The most notorious was Zyklon-B, an organophosphate like VX, IIRC.

Because everyone knows teenagers and young adults always respond so well to that approach.

Please note that one of the visible symptoms of cyanide poisoning is flesh turning blue-ish. Cyanosis

Actually, I think that's likely how cyanide got its name.

Given how cagey the Nazis were about hiding what they were doing, I wouldn't be surprised if the term Prussian Blue was a purposeful substitution in communications.

Always thought the kids were just named for Prussia and the blue-eyed-blond complex. At any rate their normal human tendency towards life-affirmation seems to be kicking in.

I wonder whether medical marijuana can be used to encourage that. Seems to have been a side-effect here.

This guy is going places. He talks with so much confidence, it's hard to comprehend he's only 17. I know I didn't agree with the 13-year old version of him but back then he also had much Gusta.

Damn shame he's not studying politics.

407 Lidane  Thu, Jul 5, 2012 11:56:07am

Watching a bunch of wingnuts get their panties in a twist because a 17-year old disagrees with them is hilarious. I'm loving this.

Good on the kid for speaking his mind. More power to him.
