Erick Erickson ‘Stands By’ Rep. Joe Walsh’s Attacks on Veteran

There’s really nothing too despicable for today’s right wing
Wingnuts • Views: 32,448

Remember when I wrote “Rep. Joe Walsh Will Now Become a Right Wing Hero Because He Acted Like a Total Jerk on CNN?”

Sure enough, CNN contributor and right wing loon Erick Erickson is singing Walsh’s praises: CNN’s Erickson Defends GOP Rep’s Attack on Wounded Veteran.

After Walsh received widespread criticism for his comments, Erickson wrote a post on redstate.com: “I support Congressman Joe Walsh a thousand percent and you should too. Pony up your checkbooks while you are at it. He’s in the midst of a manufactured scandal because he dared utter an inconvenient truth.” Erickson claimed that “the left went into overdrive” when Walsh “pointed out that Duckworth’s service in the military is about the extent of her public campaign platform” and concluded that “[a]ll he did was tell it like it is. That’s what is so refreshing about Joe Walsh.” …

Appearing on CNN’s The Situation Room on Friday afternoon, Erickson continued his defense of Walsh and claimed that Duckworth “doesn’t spend a lot of time talking about the issues,” again avoiding and deflecting from Walsh’s attack on her military service.

He said that Walsh “calls it like he sees it,” adding “I actually stand by what Joe Walsh said.”

Introducing Erickson, host Wolf Blitzer said that the CNN contributor “caused a huge stir in the blogosphere” with his redstate.com post defending Walsh and that he’s now “getting hammered for all of that that.”

It’s pathetically bizarre how CNN gives a platform to hateful, dim-witted right wingers like Erickson and Dana Loesch — and lets them dump all over CNN’s real journalists, with no consequences at all.

If he supports Walsh 1000% then he supports a UFC style cage match between Walsh and Duckworth.

I'm sure that will be supported.

I suspect that when CNN cashed in what ever tiny bit of journalistic credibility they had by giving a platform to Erickson and Loesch (not to mention giving 5 hours per week in prime time to a fatuous ex-tabloid editor), they kinda hoped the ratings would...you know...GO UP.

Fascinating. I had no idea refusing to pay over 115K in child support could be considered "refreshing".

If Tammy Duckworth was a Republican, Erickson would be screaming from the rooftops about unpatriotic attacks on a veteran and an American hero.

However, since she's a Democrat, her military service is somehow invalid. WTF.

If Walsh lived in Alabama he would be campaigning from a county cell. We get a couple things right.

If you asked me to pick Erickson out of a silent panel of a hundred, I guarantee I could do it nine times out of ten. There's just something... blowhardy... about him.

That CNN strategy certainly isn't winning them any ratings wars.

Erick Erickson; He said that Walsh “calls it like he sees it,” adding “I actually stand by what Joe Walsh said.”
Translation; I'm a cock roach too and I have no redeeming qualities and CNN is a total Ass Hat Convention to allow me to spread my hate.
Wolf Blitzer? Wasn't he someone at some time, some time ago? Hacks.

Oops for CNN then. I think their ratings are geting worse.

What they didn't factor into the equation was the hatred for CNN on the Right and the indifference most everywhere else. A couple of right wing blowhards won't change the view on the right that CNN is the Communist News Network; righties have been calling it that for years--mediocrities like Erickson and Loesch won't change that. And a silly twit tabloid editor, who's even worse than Larry King during a bad senior moment, won't make any difference either.

With headlines like this, winning the war isn't the issue - surviving is:

"CNN Hits 21-Year Ratings Low in Second Quarter"

I remember taking a tour of CNN's headquarters in Atlanta. They had a chart showing their broadcast ratings since they first went on the air - a huge spike represented their audience during the invasion of Kuwait and Operation Desert Storm.

I wonder if they lost that audience, and more?

When they shut most of their foreign bureaus, and stopped doing the long-form international stories, they lost their brand. People who want opinionated US political analysis can find it done better at Fox and MSNBC, and people who want actual in-depth feature stories about something other than entertainment and sports figures go to BBC or Al Jazeera.

Anderson Cooper tries very hard, but one correspondent with a limited schedule, budget and local deep-background assistance can only do just so much.

When Joe Walsh interrupted Obama's State of the Union speech with his "You lie!" exclamation, he got hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations, in a matter of days if I recall. So when Erick Erickson says "Pony up your checkbook," he knows what he's talking about.

CNN doesn't seem to realize that people who like that kind of silliness have another network they can watch (Fox), and the rest of us have this thing called a remote control to spare ourselves the details of CNN's descent into oblivion.

Also, a memo to CNN: not every female anchor / pundit / commenter needs to be featured in a sleeveless outfit.

CNN is pathetic. I just watched "Recount" on HBO and it's remarkable how craven CNN has become.

That wasn't Joe Walsh that yelled "You Lie" during Obama's state of the union address. Walsh wasn't elected until 2010. "You Lie" was South Carolina's own Joe Wilson.

Both are complete douchecanoes, mind you.

Thank goodness that I stopped watching CNN after they led the Breitbart-manufactured Sherrod scandal. I only watch them if I'm in the airport where that's all they show.

I guess, unlike Fox News, CNN feels that to be "fair and balanced", they actually have to showcase both sides, which in their case means passive Liberals and extreme Conservatives.

... CNN feels that to be "fair and balanced", they actually have to showcase both sides...

I agree with your comment, and it made me think about professional wrestling. Fox (and, I would say, MSNBC... I may be a tad more "conservative" than you are, although NOT "conservative" in the sense of today's Republicans) are like pro wrestling fans who know that they're watching entertainment, not a true sport. Admire them or not, at least they know what's involved.

Sometimes, the CNN anchors remind me of a pro wrestling fan who honestly thinks that the wrestling is real. CNN puts on hacks from the right, and these people argue with hacks from the left, and the CNN anchor seems oblivious to the fact that there is no news value there at all; that it's all just a silly game, an attempt at "entertainment", or TV ratings.

Personally, I don't happen to get any entertainment value from either the violent antics of TV wrestling, or the unpleasant exchanges of opposing political party hacks. But at least Fox and (I would say) MSNBC know what kind of programming they're putting on TV. Maybe they can let CNN in on the secret.
