Right Wing Media and Blogs Hype Ridiculous Phony Survey: 83% of Doctors Want to Quit Over Obamacare

Here’s a case study in why the right wing should not be trusted, in anything they say or try to do, because they simply lie and make things up.

The Daily Caller is hyping a survey by the “non-partisan” Doctor Patient Medical Association that says: Report: 83 Percent of Doctors Have Considered Quitting Over Obamacare.

Eighty-three percent of American physicians have considered leaving their practices over President Barack Obama’s health care reform law, according to a survey released by the Doctor Patient Medical Association.

The DPMA, a non-partisan association of doctors and patients, surveyed a random selection of 699 doctors nationwide. The survey found that the majority have thought about bailing out of their careers over the legislation, which was upheld last month by the Supreme Court.

Eighty-three percent? How can that kind of number possibly be true?

Answer: it isn’t. This is the worst kind of deceptive wingnut bullshit, the sort of propaganda they pump out day after day, eagerly gobbled up and parroted by a corrupt right wing blogosphere.

Steve M. at “No More Mister Nice Blog” took this one apart; the “Doctor Patient Medical Association” is a Tea Party group, connected to the crackpot libertarian organization called the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, and a member of the far right ALEC. Here are some of our previous posts featuring the AAPS and their outright lunacy:

LGF reader Kirk Spencer points out that even if the Doctor Patient Medical Association were not connected to the Tea Party and libertarian whack-jobs, their survey is a joke:

Rather than hammer on credentials and inferentials, look at the actual survey.

A whopping 4.3% response rate of a survey successfully sent to approximately 6.4% of total active primary care doctors (less of primary care physicians) in the US means the results are NOT indicative of the population. 0.24% is statistically unrepresentative.

(4.3% comes from the survey results. Survey report says 16,227 surveys were successfully sent. According to the AAMC there are 254,217 active primary care MDs and 279,719 active primary care physicians in the US. 669/279719= 0.00239, or ~0.24%)

It’s a pile of dishonest, deliberately deceptive rubbish, intended to hoodwink the gullible by appearing as a reasonable “non-partisan” study. This kind of stuff is why I ran away from the right wing as fast as my legs would carry me.
