Gates of Vienna Hateblogger Ned May Speaks at European Parliament, Whines About LGF

Still hating after all these years
Wingnuts • Views: 39,959

Ned May from the anti-Muslim blog Gates of Vienna spoke to a “counter-jihad” conference at the European Parliament a few days ago, desperately spinning the outright bigotry and hate speech in which he traffics in an attempt to distance himself from Norwegian mass murderer Anders Breivik, and he brought up … yours truly: Gates of Vienna: OIC-Sponsored Fratricide.

The answer, of course, is that the sense of similarity was prompted by what occurred right here in this auditorium at the European Parliament almost five years ago. The participants in the 2007 conference had no idea that they were about to become victims of a carefully coordinated series of left-wing attacks prepared well in advance of the event.

Most of those who attended that year’s conference will remember the aftermath, when a series of slurs orchestrated by the then-popular blogger Charles Johnson caused so many of us to duck for cover. We were subjected to the same sort of mud-slinging that is even now aimed at us — we were “neo-Nazis”, “fascists”, “haters”, “racists”, “xenophobes”, and on and on and on. You all know the litany.

Mr. Johnson was fed his material — a mixture of disinformation and distortions — by several left-wing groups here in Europe, including the notorious “anti-fascist” outfit Expo in Sweden. Regardless of whether he believed everything he published, he appeared uninterested in fact-checking any of it, provided that it served to damage those Europeans who love their countries and want to preserve their cultures from destruction.

Why, sure. That’s why I renounced Gates of Vienna and their disgusting gang of bigoted fellow travelers — because I hate free Europeans who love their countries!

In fact, what happened is very simple. Yes, that 2007 conference was a real turning point for me, because I realized that bloggers like Ned May, Pamela Geller, and Robert Spencer were beginning to make alliances with extremist European groups (like the Vlaams Belang, Sweden Democrats, and the English Defence League) that were not just “right wing,” but had roots in outright fascism and xenophobic nationalism.

I wanted no part of that. Period. That’s the real, honest reason I renounced Ned May and his bigoted companions, and I’ve always been completely up-front about it.

In response to my posts on these groups and their disturbing connections to the worst kind of hatred, May and Spencer and the rest launched a series of incredibly vicious character assassination attacks against me — but I had absolutely no doubt that I was doing the right thing.

As for fact-checking — every single claim I ever made about them, and about Geller and Spencer, was carefully fact-checked. These people associate with violent bigots and outright neo-Nazis, and they’ve only gotten worse since 2007.

And I stand by every word I wrote about them.

I notice that Geller and Spencer were conspicuously absent. I think this may have been intended as a slap at them.

. By making us fearful and avoidant of those who should be our closest friends and allies.

This audience is obviously an exception to what I have just described. Anyone who is willing to come here to the heart of Eurabia and listen to speeches by Mark Steyn and Lars Hedegaard and Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff has been immunized against all the bilious epithets that may be flung at him.

This audience has both talked the talk and walked the walk.
...
We must resist all attempts to fragment us and turn us against each other. We must remember who our friends and allies are. We must support each other in the struggle to preserve free speech and resist the tyranny of shariah.

As Jesus said, and Abraham Lincoln later reminded us: “A house divided against itself cannot stand.”

I will not repudiate nor distance myself from anyone who shares the same goals and adheres to the same principles. We all stand for individual liberty and the time-honored values of Western Civilization.

I didn't google the names of the speakers to see who may have been the divisive figure(s) this time. I suspect there was some behind the scenes drama.

I had the same experience with these people. They took a concern had with fanatical Islamisim after 911 and exploited it to the point they were no longer concerned with defending secularism or human rights against a fanatical element but a blanked condemnation of Muslims everywhere and immigrants especially (again taking a concern of a perceived lack of assimilation by European Muslim immigrants and making it xenophobic).

People are falling for another hoax...

Obama bill-paying hoax sweeps up victims nationwide: Plain Dealing

A myth that President Obama is giving people money to pay their bills has prompted thousands of people across the country to try to pay for utilities, phone service and loans using bogus bank routing numbers.

United Way of Cleveland's 2-1-1 changed its answering machine Monday to say rumors of the Obama program were false after fielding dozens of calls.

Later that day, a United Way employee was on an RTA bus when a rider stood up and announced to fellow passengers that Obama was paying people's bills. The rider told people they could use the red numbers on the backs of their Social Security cards to tap into the government money.

Steve Wertheim of United Way said the woman claimed she had successfully paid her electric bill using the technique.

Such unprompted testimonials are spreading the hoax through entire communities, putting consumers, at minimum, at risk of late payment penalties and service disruptions.

It bears repeating that any kind of offer that's too good to be true probably is. Also, any offer for a deal that requires you to provide key id information (SSNs, bank accounts, routing numbers, etc.) to get some kind of too good to be true deal is going to be bogus.

Yet, all too many people fall for these scams.

Texas Seeks To Stop Doctors From Talking About Abortion

Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) effectively defunded his state’s Planned Parenthood earlier this year by barring it and any other “abortion affiliates” from receiving funds under the Texas Women’s Health Program (TWHP). The government eventually cut off the program for not complying with the law, but Perry insisted he’d continue it — but on his own terms.

It turns out those terms mean blocking funding for anyone who even talks about abortion.

In a letter explaining the Texas Department of Health and Human Services’s proposed new rules, they have expanded their ban from “affiliates” (abortion providers or clinics attached to abortion providers) to “promoters” and those who affiliate with “promoters”:

Apparently the doctor patient relationship or Hippocratic oath isn't covered by the 1st Amendment in Texas. Maybe if they said magic pixies sent by Jesus instead of abortion they could discuss it.

Federal Judge upholds block of Mississippi Abortion law

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A federal judge on Wednesday decided to continue to block a state law that threatened to shut down Mississippi's only abortion clinic and make it nearly impossible for a woman to get the procedure in the state.

U.S. District Judge Daniel P. Jordan III temporarily blocked the law July 1 and extended that order Wednesday, though he did not immediately say how long it would last.

The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that states can't place undue burdens or substantial obstacles to women seeking abortion. The law would require anyone performing clinic abortions to be an OB-GYN with privileges to admit patients to a local hospital. The doctors at the clinic in Jackson do not have those privileges, and the clinic says the privileges aren't medically necessary.

Supporters of the law say it's designed to protect patients. Republican Gov. Phil Bryant says he hopes it will help make Mississippi "abortion-free."
The clinic, Jackson Women's Health Organization, says it has been unable to obtain admitting privileges for its two out-of-state OB-GYNs because local hospitals have not responded to their requests.

Admitting privileges can be difficult to get because hospitals might not grant them to out-of-state physicians, or hospitals with religious affiliations might not give them to doctors who perform abortions.

Mississippi is highly conservative, I can't help but wonder if these hospitals are deliberately stonewalling to try and force the clinic to have to shut down.

It's also about shaping the debate and talking points so that the GOP can claim that Rep X is for raising taxes, or for killing puppies, or against "God Country and the Constitution"™

That it has no chance of passage is almost besides the point. If it peels off a couple of Democrat voters, it's a bonus to the GOP because they can use it as a wedge issue, even though most people recognize the benefits of most of the provisions (up to and including the individual mandate back when the GOP was making it the central part of their health care reform - which ended when President Obama made it his central item in reforming health care insurance).

No, I got it.

It's just at odds with your previous comment, where you said you'd rather they vote on repealing Obamacare for the n'th time than vote to build "bridges to nowhere".

Now, I realize your next comment is going to be "but that was talking about bridges to nowhere", so I'll immediately add that there is another alternative, which is that the Republicans could actually do something useful and vote to spend money on all the stuff that needs fixing.

Which would, you know, create jobs.

Mitt Romney: I Have Secret Black Supporters

Mitt Romney told Fox News Wednesday that black leaders support him, but are afraid to say so publicly.

After his speech to the NAACP national convention Wednesday, Romney said he connected with black leaders in private and was assured that the loud and sustained booing he got for promising to repeal the health care reform law didn’t represent the feelings of all African American voters, even if they can’t say so in public.

Yes,, I'd rather them wasting time voting on something they have NO chance of passing rather than on something that DID pass and wasted money

Emergency authorities are quite clear that it will take three days for the government to effectively respond to any natural disaster. (That does not mean they sit there for three days. That means from the time the disaster strikes until the time the crates of water roll up to the shelters is three days.)

People in my area lose power once or twice a year for one or two days at a time, mostly during the summer (thunderstorms) and winter (ice branches).

This is a normal urban/suburban area. I don't see any particular reason why it wouldn't be possible to improve the infrastructure and minimize these effects, especially since I have lived, and other people clearly live, in areas with similar weather without such ill-effects.

After Voting To Repeal Obamacare, Republicans Turn Their Attention To Golf

Immediately after the Republicans spent their 89th hour trying to take away health coverage from middle class Americans by voting to repeal Obamacare, the GOP turned their attention to a topic perhaps less consequential to their constituents: Golf. Democrats have argued that Republicans are wasting their time by revisiting the Obamacare debate instead of focusing on jobs and the economy. Today, the GOP went a step further in proving them right by having a long discussion about their two Congressional golf teams. Watch it:

The infrastructure isn;t the problem. As you and I both stated, it's usually weather related because something either fell on (from ice/snow) or hit (lightning) a line or a transformer

I think we're using different definitions of "infrastructure". I'm talking about the whole system - coal mine to home outlet.

Wherever the weak links are, why not get to work performing upgrades? The tree-trimming program is exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about.

Or we could have some more votes to repeal Obamacare.

If they focused half their efforts that they've spent on repealing ACA, something they know the senate won't pass and the president certainly won't sign on something constructive then maybe we'd have some process but no the House GOP prefers being a bunch of childish assholes. Obama needs to call them out for the do-nothings they really are.

Harry Reid should just say that when the repeal vote in the house comes up with the 2/3 marjority needed to override the President, then he'll schedule a vote - before then they're just wasting taxpayers time.

Again, the issue isn't (generally) the hardware ("coal mine to home outlet")

Its usually Force majeure and there is little a power company can do about that, other than, as I stated, try to trim trees back away from lines/ transformers

Now,, you could go with all underground utilities (most sub divisions including the one I'm in have that) but that very cost inefficient to both build and maintain, AND theres no guarantee that Force majeure doesn't hit that either, as has been the case twice since I've lived here (12 years)

Tea Party Nation: Oath Keepers is Last Line of Defense Against Tyranny

The Tea Party Nation, one of the more extreme factions of the Tea Party movement, has dipped deeper into the conspiratorial waters of antigovernment lore, most recently promoting the Oath Keepers and other antigovernment “Patriots” as the last line of defense for Americans increasingly confronted with “a government verging on evil.”

In a post published over the weekend on the Tea Party Nation’s website, regular blogger Alan Caruba painted a dire picture of the threats to freedom that lie in wait under President Obama, whom he calls a “red diaper baby” and a far-left functionary “raised from birth and mentored to embrace communism.”

“Obama’s disregard for the Constitution, its separation of powers, and Americans suffering greatly from his policies, suggests that he is not beyond making the greatest grab for power using a bogus ‘national emergency’ or manufactured ‘crisis’ to declare martial law,” Caruba wrote. He goes on to cite three recent executive orders as proof positive that Obama is setting up the nation to abandon its constitutional mandates and wage an all-out campaign against freedom.

And that’s where the Oath Keepers comes in.

If you think Oaf Creepers are the answer, it was a stupid fucking question to begin with.

Slightly higher taxes, perhaps, but lower utility bills, more stable power supply, and more jobs.

Well, I had to go to a city gov't center (not sure what to call it, my son needed to talk to a city parks & rec guy about a service project).

They had their own gas pumps, which is good planning.

I would think step #1 is figuring out where the break in the line is, which hopefully can be done computerized these days, but I wouldn't know.

Step #2 is figuring out what is needed and getting the workers out there with the right equipment and supplies. If the storm is still going on, this might need to wait. I'm not going to ask a lineman to climb up and fix a wire while the lightening is still coming down.

Two Words

HOME GENERATOR

((okay ,,, two more ,,, UPS System)

For under $3,000 installed (less than half without the UPS system) you have power when others don't

You can get a solar one for less than that.

Actually, I knew I was moving to Atlanta about 5 months before I moved (7 months till my wife and son joined me)

So when we went house hunting we knew we wanted a UPS/ Generator system so we decided to look for houses in our price range that already had one OR look for houses $5,000 (or so) less so we could afford one

Slightly higher taxes, perhaps, but lower utility bills, more stable power supply, and more jobs.

This is what I'm talking about. And we've just seen that it is, in fact, possible to approve spending bills. So why carry on with all the pointless REPEAL OBAMACARE posing?

Opinion piece, but pretty much what I've seen from them this past decade.

Corporate greed is the true cause of the prolonged power outages. From 2008 to 2011, Pepco’s chief executive earned $8.8 million and its top officers more than $22 million; it paid no federal or state income taxes and actually received a refund of $817 million. It made $882 million in profits. So instead of consumers paying for reliability they are paying for inflated salaries.

What motivation has there been for Pepco to improve service? The more is spends on maintaining a workforce that can respond in a timely manner to outages, the less there would be available for salaries and dividends.

Capitalism! Free markets!

Well, looks like Romney is about to end his campaign now that this news has come out.

Pastor: 'God Wants Ron Paul to Be President' -- Nebraska Delegates Should Obey God

“God wants Ron Paul to be President. Paul is the only Christian still running who beat Obama in polls, but will Christians and pastors obey God?” says Pastor Steven Andrew, president of USA Christian Ministries.

“We must obey God and vote for Christians. Noah Webster used Exodus 18:21 for American voting. John Jay said “select and prefer Christians for [our] leaders” (Mark 12:30, Psalm 1, Psalm 33:12).

“Comparing Ron Paul, Mitt Romney and Barack Obama, we see Paul will cut the deficit $1 trillion in year one, but Obama and Romney would increase the deficit. Americans will have more jobs with Paul,” says the pastor.

“Christians follow Jesus. We aren’t right or left. The left isn’t following God. Obama says to leave living babies to die who survive botched abortions, covers Jesus’ name and cross at Georgetown, fights unjust wars that result in Muslims persecuting Christians, and mocks God and our Founding Fathers’ Christian laws,” he adds.

“The right isn’t following God with Mitt Romney. Jesus Christ is the second Person of the Godhead but, as a Mormon, Romney thinks: Jesus is a created being, the spirit brother of Lucifer; that men become Gods and that Christians are inferior people. Christians know Mormonism is Satanic,” he adds.

“God warns Romney and Obama are ‘accursed’ in Galatians 1:9. Who would vote for someone accursed and bring God’s judgment (2Chronicles 19:2)? Also, Romney and Obama oppose the Constitution and want to put Americans in prison without a trial with NDAA,” he explains.

The Nebraska delegates are deciding between Paul and Romney Saturday. The pastor believes the delegates should obey God and choose Paul.

You're the one claiming that a $3K expense is the easy solution. If it's truly that easy for you, you're very fortunately. If it's not such an easy thing, maybe you should be less glib? Millions of people live in homes or apartments they don't own, and buying a generator isn't a reasonable solution for those people. (I know, I know, single disabled mothers living welfare-check-to-welfare-check should just "budget better" like you and buy generators.)

Failing? Getting taken out with a tree branch isn't failing.

It's an act of nature.

Failing would be more like a bridge crumbling and the government doesn't do anything about it.

Or, rather, being woefully inadequate for the traffic, and the government doing nothing about it. But that's not lack of funds, that's normally Oregon-Washington border politics. (I-5 bridge stupidity)

I see small generators for a few hundred bucks. We should all have one.

It would be a waste in my case, I live on the same grid(s) as the Hospital - the power never stops here but for moments, all is redundant, multiple legs, etc. When I lived in Alaska off the Old Nenana highway, you bet I had a generator, and it came in handy a couple times even after I moved to town. A friend of mine who was a Navy chief cooked dinner for most of the neighborhood a few weeks running after Hurricane Andrew because he had a generator.

re: #211 Killgore Trout

No but buying a small generator for a few hundred bucks is a smart investment and it's something you can do yourself.

I have no problem with saying that buying a generator for a few hundred bucks is a smart investment. There's a difference between that and glibly saying that there's a two-word solution (that costs $3K).

The failure is the tree not getting cleared until days afterward.
The failure is charging high rates while having crap service.
The failure is not having enough workers to fix the problems.
Sorry, but I find it unacceptable in this day that people have to go a week without power because Pepco can't get its shit together.

No, I'm saying that picking on the government for the fact that high winds causes trees to fall is silly.

The Japanese government really had it's act together in terms of earthquakes and tsunamis. (Well, does). Nobody has it together like they did.

It wasn't enough.

I will be honest; I have no experience with this particular company. Governments are not uniform.

Ours is great; we have a new library, paved streets, a good arts center, and an attempt at landing ourselves in the Guinness Book of World Records every summer. (Don't ask.)

The mayor of the adjourning town tried to pick a fight with Phil Knight and lost. Cost the city millions that it could have spend elsewhere.

Governments, and utility companies, are not all uniform. And no, we don't have more money. The adjourning town does.

re: #213 Randall Gross

It would be a waste in my case, I live on the same grid(s) as the Hospital - the power never stops here but for moments, all is redundant, multiple legs, etc. When I lived in Alaska off the Old Nenana highway, you bet I had a generator, and it came in handy a couple times even after I moved to town. A friend of mine who was a Navy chief cooked dinner for most of the neighborhood a few weeks running after Hurricane Andrew because he had a generator.

It would probably be a waste in my case too. I live in a pretty urban area and it's doubtful an outage here would last more than a day. Still, I think next time I get a few hundred extra bucks I'll pick up a small generator and throw it in the basement. I'll probably never need it but it's a smart thing to have around.

228 Randall Gross  Wed, Jul 11, 2012 3:40:53pm
This audience is obviously an exception to what I have just described. Anyone who is willing to come here to the heart of Eurabia and listen to speeches by Mark Steyn and Lars Hedegaard and Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff has been immunized against all the bilious epithets that may be flung at him.

This audience has both talked the talk and walked the walk.

Yet it is important to remain conscious of the inexorable pressures that are brought to bear against us, if we are to continue to resist them. There will be other occasions when these sorts of attacks will be mounted against us, and the next wave may be even more powerful and more ruthless than the last one. What lies ahead may be far worse than the vitriol that has been aimed at us over the past year.

... and some people still wonder why I always down ding pages linking to Steyn when I see them.

As well as telling folks, 18 months later, that they'll reveal their grand replacement plan...but only after the ACA is repealed. You'd think that, were it so sure to draw popular support, that they'd go ahead and reveal it to build up support for repealing the ACA.

For those who don't know what is it removed quotas on immigration from Asia and Latin America regions which in the past had the number of people from those regions whom could emigrate here limited due to institutionalized racism. Eventually they'll start fighting each other. Anyhow what makes this really interesting is that in the early years of the country, evangelical Christians were inclined to support separation of church and state because they were a minority and feared persecution if there was an official religion. Jefferson's famous letter that mentions "the wall of separation" was after all a letter to Baptists in Connecticut.

Mormon temples and meetinghouses routinely meet with opposition.

The building I meet in right now met with opposition. The pastor of the [mainline Protestant sect] church right next door said it was like putting a 7-11 next to a Kwik Mart.

Paterno's Family and Former Penn State Prez Criticize Internal Investigation

Today, Paterno's family released a statement to the Associated Press criticizing parts the investigation, while former president Graham Spanier's attorneys have filed a lawsuit against Penn State, claiming that investigators have refused to share emails that Spanier wrote more than a decade ago.

The release of the report Thursday morning follows weeks of speculation about the investigation's reported focus on Paterno, who died in January. Emails leaked to media outlets have shown that investigators are looking into whether Paterno played an active role in deciding not to report Sandusky to the police in 2001, after Paterno and other top officials were informed of child sex abuse allegations.

Why Romney Welcomes the Boos

Mitt Romney was booed. It was a good day for Mitt Romney.

When the Republican nominee told the NAACP that he was committed to eliminating Obamacare, audience members shouted out. The negative reception might have been momentarily jarring to the candidate, but the moment had a political upside. It offered a chance for a candidate criticized for his malleability to look principled in the face of opposition. That might not have mattered to the audience in the auditorium, but as Romney advisers explain, this speech was not just aimed at the people sitting in their seats or African American voters in general. [...]

Romney was also applauded by the NAACP audience, as his supporters were quick to point out. True, but it's in their candidate's interest to get booed and to have that booing reported. Quiet golf clapping and even sustained applause would rob Romney of explaining how steadfast he is going to be in the interviews that followed. It would weaken the Daniel in the Lion’s Den story. [...]

The boos are particularly helpful in building ties with conservatives who prize constancy in the face of opposition among all political attributes and who have specific concerns about Romney's commitment to repealing the president's health care plan.

[...]

Most certainly. I expect that Romney getting booed will play well in online hate-fests.

Without GOP, Unemployment Would be Under 6%

The GOP has been on an economic wrecking mission ever since the election of Barack Obama - indeed we now know that leading Republican strategists and legislators met and planned a course of economic sabotage and complete obstruction on Obama's very first day in office.
...
But we can look at just two big examples and get a minimal measure of the human cost to American citizens of a deliberate policy to destroy the economy in order to bring down the president; 1) austerity, and 2) obstruction of the 2011 American Jobs Act. Taking just those into account, the unemployment rate would be under 6% were it not for deliberate GOP wrecking.

After the losses of 2006 and 2008, the GOP was in its worst shape since Watergate. They responded like cornered animals, reflexively opposing nearly everything, even many things they had supported before. They couldn't stand being out of power and had no real new ideas, so, in a nihilistic fashion, they basically followed the philosophy that if they couldn't run things, they'd let them blow up until they got back in power. Effective? Maybe. Responsible? Not even close.

In the Alternet piece I posted, they link as one of their sources that leftist rag Business Insider:

Mitt Romney Admits It: Cutting Government Spending Hurts The Economy

One of the under-remarked on things in the Mark Halperin interview of Mitt Romney in Time magazine comes here.

Halperin: Why not in the first year, if you're elected — why not in 2013, go all the way and propose the kind of budget with spending restraints, that you'd like to see after four years in office? Why not do it more quickly?

Romney: Well because, if you take a trillion dollars for instance, out of the first year of the federal budget, that would shrink GDP over 5%. That is by definition throwing us into recession or depression. So I'm not going to do that, of course.

It couldn't be clearer: Mitt Romney believes that a large cuts to federal outlays will throw us into a recession or depression.

Of course, that was before the Hamptons fundraiser with the Ayn Rand aficionado Koch brothers, whose bidding Romney will follow to the absolute letter.
