Romney, RNC: We Did Obama A Favor By Taking Him Out Of Context!
Obama, they insist, should be happy that Republicans selectively edited his speech, because the full context of the president’s remarks on business and government is actually worse.
Romney made this case himself on CNBC Monday night.
“The context is worse than the quote,” Romney said in an exchange with Larry Kudlow. “The context, he says, ‘you know, you think you’ve been successful because you’re smart, but he says a lot of people are smart. You think you’ve been successful because you work hard, a lot of people work hard.’”
Romney returned to the central line of attack — the out-of-context quote that has become a centerpiece of his campaign: that Obama is essentially anti-individual achievement.

Re-posted from downstairs and more relevant here
Romney is making a foreign policy speech right now to the VFW and is accusing Obama of leaking sensitive classified security secrets.
He also lied saying the 2 special counsels appointed to investigate the leaks are Obama appointees, when in fact one of them is a Bush appointee.
His FP adviser Dan Senor said the same thing earlier on Andrea Mitchell. I was so mad that she didn't call him on it. But then at the end of the interview she did correct him.
Romney's entire campaign is built on a bunch of lies. They are shameless.

when you have an entire "News" network built on the idea of stretching and distorting the truth then it's easy to make the final leap to outright lying and having people believe it. Sadly the rest of the media is complicit because they don't have the testicular fortitude to call him what he is, a bald-faced shiftless liar.

Rather, how the rich are all special little snowflakes, who like real snowflakes, are amazingly fragile and melt quickly in the heat of anything but the coldest of tax climes. So we must nurture them and protect them, because one day we might possibly be rich too.
Oh, and they all totally formed on their own, no help whatsoever, and we should celebrate that rather than acknowledging that everything from the cold weather to the condensation in the clouds allowed them to form.

The people who provide roads, the fire, the police. A lot of people help. But let me ask you this. Did you build your business? If you did, raise your hand. Take that Mr. President! 59 | The Ghost of a Flea Tue, Jul 24, 2012 12:26:37pm |
How super PACs are saving Mitt Romney
Roughly 80 percent of all ad spending by Republicans on the general election has come from these super PACs, as Romney has expended a relatively meager $35 million to date on ads in swing states, according to ad buy figures provided to the Fix by a GOP media buyer.
By contrast, the $20 million that Democratic super PACs have spent on ads so far in the general election accounts for just 19 percent of total ad spending on the Democratic side.
---
But, wait, there’s more.
Republican outside groups have spent seven times as much as their Democratic counterparts on ads so far in the general election. In fact, the two-pronged American Crossroads (a super PAC) and Crossroads GPS (a 501c4) have spent in excess of $94 million on TV ads — approximately five times as much as Democratic super PACs have spent combined. And that $94 million is roughly two and a half times more than Romney himself has spent on ads in the general election to date.
Taken together, the Romney campaign and the panoply of Republican outside groups have spent $179 million on swing state advertising so far in the general election, while Obama and his aligned outside groups have shelled out $128 million.

Virtual war: Jeanne Shaheen vs. Glenn Beck
Glenn Beck and Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) — polar opposites on the political scale — are set to “Thunderclap” on Tuesday and part of the point, it seems, is to see who’s got the most “thunderclapping” fans.
“Thunderclapping,” is technology that encourages the online masses to repeat the same message via Twitter and Facebook, at the same time (“crowd-speaking” is the technical term for it).
And the Beck vs. Shaheen match is being billed by De-De, which runs the Thunderclap platform, as the first “social media duel.”

Romney defends Obama's record...
If the first six months don't count...
Mitt Romney sat down with CNBC's Larry Kudlow, and made a curious observation. He said voters who want a strong economy should vote for him, but Americans "ought to give, whichever president is going to be elected, at least six months or a year to get those policies in place."
...But look what happens when we start the clock, as Romney suggests, six months to a year after President Obama was sworn in. In fact, if we don't hold Obama's first year against him, the economy has added over 3.7 million jobs overall during his presidency, and over 4.2 million in the private sector.
That's not the count by my standard; that's the count by Romney's standard.

Ocean Drone Captures Sea Garbage like a Butterfly Net
The world’s oceans are filled with human-generated pollution, particularly plastics – just read about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch to get a general idea about the scope of the problem. Industrial designer Elie Ahovi says he has a solution to the problem. He, along with a team of designers, drew up a concept marine drone designed to capture garbage in the ocean without harming marine life.
The Drone 1-001-1 concept features a steel body construction with composite materials for strength and lightweight operation. Its battery-powered motors are quiet and efficient. Ahovi estimates the drone could remain submerged for about two weeks before needing a charge.
The ocean drone uses an infrasound system to help it navigate away from schools of fish and larger underwater objects. This system emits a sound that irritates fish and other sea creatures helping to keep them from entering into the drone’s netting.

Getting serious here, but if I was American my biggest complaint about Romney is that he isn't American.
I don't mean I'm some sort of opposite Birther who think Romney wasn't born in the States. I mean it is obvious to me that his loyalty lies not with his country but with his class. That class of people that exists in a society of money that is not connected to any nation.
When George Ludwig, Elector of Hanover, became George I of Great Britain he used England's power mostly in the service of Hanover. In the same manner if Romney becomes President he will use the power of the United States mostly in the service of those he holds his loyalty to.
That would not be good.

I have been critical of the President’s decision to withdraw the surge troops [in Afghanistan] during the fighting season, against the advice of the commanders on the ground. President Obama would have you believe that anyone who disagrees with his decisions is arguing for endless war. But the route to more war – and to potential attacks here at home – is a politically timed retreat.
As president, my goal in Afghanistan will be to complete a successful transition to Afghan security forces by the end of 2014.

Literally the next sentence.
Also, Jesus, Mitt. Most style guides killed the post-period double-space in the 1980s. Do you have a single employee under 40? Just one?

It's like he is debating himself within the speech. I await Morbo to ask whether the Romneybot would take candy from a human infant.

Hey, I'm under 40 (just) and I learned to type on an IBM Selectric in middle school, and double spaces between sentences were de rigueur. Of course my teacher was old. I only learned about the new style when I was forced to use the CMOS for my master's thesis.

I'm in my mid 30's and I still have to make an effort to not double-space like the nuns taught me to.

They have to have the older folks do the typing. They're the only ones who can spell.

Slightly older but same story. Learned to double space after periods, but quickly ended it when I discovered it was no longer necessary.
Whenever I get a Word document that has to be imported to InDesign or Illustrator, first thing I do is a search-and-destroy for period-double space.

Questions from the Romneybot warehouse:
Since then, has the American economy recovered?
Wrong question given global conditions. What should be asked is it recovering.
The economy hasn't recovered, but neither has the global economy recovered. However the US economy is outperforming many European economies and is recovering from its 2008 low.
Has our ability to shape world events been enhanced, or diminished?
It has been enhanced 10 fold by the election of Obama. More countries are willing to support the US in global decisions than previously.
Have we gained greater confidence among our allies, and greater respect from our adversaries?
Greater confidence that the US will treat allies fairly and take their concerns seriously.
Enemies fear the weapons. Use them up on wasteful wars and the fear lessons. I doubt any enemies of the west believe the west is powerless.
And, perhaps most importantly, has the most severe security threat facing America and our friends, a nuclear-armed Iran, become more or less likely?
When did that become the new threat du jour, and what happened to the old threat? Iran has followed their own agenda and ignored the west. This is independent of who is in office.
