Wacko Libertarian Group Compares Obama to Colorado Killer

Too far? Ya think?
Wingnuts • Views: 36,688

A crazy libertarian group in Idaho put up the billboard you see above, comparing President Obama to alleged Colorado mass murderer James Holmes, and KBOI’s staff ponders the question: Does Billboard Comparing Obama to Alleged Shooter Go Too Far?

Gee, I don’t know. Have to give that some thought. It’s a real head-scratcher, all right.

CALDWELL, Idaho (KBOI) - A Caldwell billboard is raising questions in the Treasure Valley as it compares President Obama to accused Colorado killer, James Holmes.

The billboard on Franklin Road equates the actions of the president’s foreign policies to the acts of Holmes, who’s suspected of killing 12 people in the theater shooting.

The group that owns the board, The Ralph Smeed Foundation, says it wants to draw attention to military men and women dying overseas.

Well, they wanted attention and they got it.

With luck they'll get the same kind of attention that the Heartland Institute got for the Unabomber/Global Warming billboard. On the other hand, this assumes they have supporters to lose in the first place.

A billboard in Idaho compares the Batman shooter's 12 murders to Obama's many thousands. Good for the Ralph Smeed Foundation for putting it up. Ralph, God rest his soul, was a great libertarian, a dedicated Paulian, and a good friend to the Mises Institute and LRC. (Thanks to Bob Delaney)

Anti-war extremists are so often racists. They must be people who are so used to being top dog, they figure that with the state out of the way, they'll still be on top. Then they try to come up with some sciencey stuff to confirm this, ie: other races are weaker and less smart. They call that "race realism". Delusional. Yet, people who are ignorant (usually very young too) are attracted to the peaceful sounding anti-war rhetoric. It's sad and tragic.

Sounds like it was a browser pop up window. Probably nothing to worry about. Just keep your virus software up-to-date.

My dad got hit by one called Spy Axe a few years back. This one throws up a warning from the tray at the bottom of the Windows taskbar. He went ahead and "subscribed."

He got it from a friend of his, who he considered a computer "expert." The "expert's" advice was to go buy it. When I suggested he cancel his credit card, I was blown off, being told it was merely a life lesson.

And this is why I hate dealing with my family and the computers.

cameras are most likely for the highways depts. traffic monitoring system. In that many billboards have electricity for lighting, it's cheaper for the state to mount a camera on a commercial billboard rather than to erect their own tower and run the video and power cables to them

Sounds like an administrative response to the problem of processing the huge load of volunteers and draftees in a national emergency. Special snowflakes became GIs.

After the war began, every man between the ages of 18 and 65 had to register for the draft. In this war, only men were liable for the draft. Women who served volunteered. Able-bodied men up to age 45 were liable for military service. Local draft boards were set up to process the registrants. Each registrant was given a classification indicating whether or not he was eligible to be drafted.

[Link: www.dailymail.co.uk...]

The campaign official, who was not directly involved organising the London trip, that that the Romney campaign had not prepared sufficiently for ‘a visit of this magnitude’ and that the candidate had not been briefed properly on how to answer questions about the staging of the Olympics.

‘What he gave was the honest assessment of the situation based on his previous experience. Unfortunately in a diplomatic context that's not the sort of thing that should have been coming out of the candidate's mouth. It was bad messaging and media prep.’

The trip should have been a straightforward one, he said. ‘You show up, you smile, you do photo ops, you talk about the special relationship, the deep bonds that connect us and then you go home, or in this case on to Israel and Poland.

‘Unfortunately, it shows that the campaign by solely focussing on jobs has really neglected foreign policy and international affairs.’

He said that the campaign had not had a dedicated protocol adviser ‘to ensure there were no snafus’, such as when Romney addressed Ed Miliband, the Opposition leader, as ‘Mr Leader’ and when he stated he had been briefed by the head of MI6.

‘The first rule of diplomacy is that when you're in a foreign country you get titles and forms of address correct.

‘It played into some stereotypical impressions of Americans, that they’re ignorant of local concerns, that they don’t get names or titles right.’

'Sounds like one part of the domestic policy team is hitting at the foreign policy team.

The candidate we can trust!

The campaign’s decision to close the fundraiser to the press violates the ground rules it negotiated with news organizations in April, when Romney wrapped up the Republican nomination and began opening some of his finance events to the news media.

Under the agreement, a pool of wire, print and television reporters can cover every Romney fundraiser held in public venues, including hotels and country clubs. The campaign does not allow media coverage of fundraisers held in private residences.

Campaign spokesman Rick Gorka declined to explain the campaign’s decision to violate protocol with the Jerusalem event.

Oh, that's rich, calling Boris Johnson "odd". That's probably something called "sincerity", something Romney appears to totally lack.

Really, expecting other right wing parties to show solidarity when "Number #1" shows up is just asking for trouble.

Romney bans media from Jerusalem fundraiser, violating pre-established protocol

...Romney’s campaign announced Saturday that it would block the news media from covering the event, which will be held at the King David Hotel. The campaign’s decision to close the fundraiser to the press violates the ground rules it negotiated with news organizations in April, when Romney wrapped up the Republican nomination and began opening some of his finance events to the news media.

Romney bans media from Jerusalem fundraiser, violating pre-established protocol

JERUSALEM — Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, who touched down here Saturday night for a day of meetings with top Israeli and Palestinian leaders, plans to wrap up his visit to Israel by collecting money from some of his biggest benefactors behind closed doors.

Some of Romney’s Jewish donors are flying here from the United States to attend the Jerusalem fundraiser on Monday morning, including Las Vegas casino mogul Sheldon Adelson, who has pledged to personally give tens of millions of dollars to a pro-Romney super PAC.

But Romney’s campaign announced Saturday that it would block the news media from covering the event, which will be held at the King David Hotel. The campaign’s decision to close the fundraiser to the press violates the ground rules it negotiated with news organizations in April, when Romney wrapped up the Republican nomination and began opening some of his finance events to the news media....

Its not like Romney has any ties to people with extremist views regarding the region.

50k per couple.

Summer pilgrimages to Jerusalem by aspiring commanders in chief are standard fare — Mr. Obama came here almost exactly four years ago — but the inclusion of a fund-raiser is more unusual. Organizers say there will be 20 to 30 people at the $50,000-per-couple event at the posh King David Hotel, including American citizens who live part time or full time here, and some American Jews, led by the billionaire Sheldon Adelson, who are flying over for the visit.

Among those expected are Sander Gerber, a hedge fund financier and former Democrat who was a significant fund-raiser for President George W. Bush in 2004; Cheryl Halpern of Livingston, N.J., a former chairwoman of the Republican Jewish Coalition and vocal backer of Israel; and J. Philip Rosen, a partner in the New York law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges who owns a home here and gives frequently to Republican candidates.

Hmmm, where is the mention of anyone in the Bush administration and their role in these foreign policy induced deaths?

Well, Bush is no longer president. My question is, do these guys have a demonstrated record of criticizing him in over-the-top and offensive language when he was in office? Or did they just discover being anti-war?

re: #55 Mocking Jay

I can picture him visiting the Wailing Wall and asking everyone "Why the long face?"

When Obama was in Israel before the election, he put a prayer in the Wall, and someone retrieved it and published it. Maybe Romney should mix his in with a batch of them.

All due respect, we don't call it the "Wailing Wall." Call it the "Western Wall" or the "Kotel."

I can't figure out why Romney visited during Tisha B'Av.

It would have made more sense to do England-Poland-Israel, and come in to Israel after the fast.

Going to be an interesting trip. Netanyahu is clearly trying to make it clear he's not Romney's bestest buddy. There is going to be one, contained, photo op.

Mitt'll be meeting with Peres and Fayyad as well. And he'll be giving a 'foreign policy address', to which the press have also apparently not been invited.

Romney's first Israel gaffe is retroactive:

ROMNEY: “We can almost speak in shorthand. We share common experiences and have a perspective and underpinning which is similar.”

~Mitt Romney, April 2012 in the New York Times.

versus

NETANYAHU: “I remember him [Romney] for sure, but I don’t think we had any particular connections, I knew him and he knew me, I suppose.”

Because there's nothing the American voter likes more than waiting until Inauguration Day as to what a candidate's foreign policy will be.

Christ in a cracker, this guy just continues to demonstrate that he what a spoiled, entitled brat he is. Can you just imagine the howls of protest if Obama behaved like this?

They can't really do much more to prove they are completely insane can they? Libertarian. Isn't that a secret word actually meaning "As Nutty As a BIG Jar of Extra Crunchy Peanut Butter"?

Nah. Libertarianism is a rebranding. I regard them as anarchists.

The rebranding was clever though. By renaming themselves they no longer carry the weight of history. Anarchism doesn't have a good rep after all.

Also, it sets the debate before it starts. By using 'liberty' as the root word of their new brand name if you argue against them you are arguing against the very concept of liberty itself. Which only evil people can do.

As I said, clever of them. Unethical, but clever.

re: #65 Lidane

I knew a few anarcho-libertarian nutjobs that worshipped both Luap Nor and Ludwig von Mises. They actually defended Somalia as an example of a functioning society that has freed itself from the tyranny of the state.

Pointing out that the people in Somalia would rather be freed from the tyranny of the violent warlords and pirates in the area went on deaf ears.

That's because most of those nut jobs believe that in such a state they'd be the violent warlords.

One of the things I find very strange about some on the right is the fact that if OBL were alive and had carried out another terrorist attack on U.S. soil, the same people who put up this billboard would be first in line to call for President Obama's hide. They don't seem to realize that they can't have it both ways. They can't ask for a president to keep us safe and condemn him for doing so at the same time. I'm not 100% in agreement with the president using drones that have killed so many innocent people, but I'm not so close-minded that I don't understand that part of the reason he uses drones so frequently is to protect the lives of as many of our military personnel as possible. He can use the drones to fight terrorists, or he can send in troops to do it. I prefer the former. I find it ironic that the political party that always talks about how much they love and support the military think nothing of putting their lives in danger in as many conflicts/wars as they can think of.

That's the nature of our First Amendment of the Constitution. Freedom of expression is an inherent right -- nowhere in the Bill of Rights does it have an asterisk with the following exclusion: " ... unless you are a racist ass hat itching to promote fear and hatred of the POTUS."
