Romney Whines: The Media Are Persecuting Me to Divert Attention From the Economy

The ever-popular “left wing media” persecution fantasy
Politics • Views: 23,348

A Republican presidential candidate can never go wrong by whining that he’s being persecuted by the liberal media, and Mitt Romney is taking refuge in this hoary old saw yet again: Romney on Gaffes: It’s the Media’s Fault.

Asked about his missteps in an interview with Fox News’ Carl Cameron before he left Poland on Tuesday, Romney accused reporters of trivializing the substance of his trip and trying to divert attention from President Obama’s stewardship of the economy.

“And I realize that there will be some in the Fourth Estate, or whichever estate, who are far more interested in finding something to write about that is unrelated to the economy, to geopolitics, to the threat of war, to the reality of conflict in Afghanistan today, to a nuclearization of Iran,” Romney said, according to a transcript of the interview that aired on Tuesday morning. “They’ll instead try and find anything else to divert from the fact that these last four years have been tough years for our country.

Wait … the media are trying to divert people’s attention away from the bad economy?

Really? Then why are there articles and news reports and editorials and polls and graphs about the bad economy every single day in every newspaper and on every cable news channel in the United States?

This is just crazy. Romney’s not even trying to describe the real world; it’s nothing but a red meat persecution fantasy for the right wing base.

The answer according to the Romney campaign is "Kiss my ass."

I'll say it again: Mitt, if you want to talk about any of those important issues, offer actual policy positions instead of insultingly vague platitudes. Then we can all have a reasoned and adult conversation about which candidate can better face the challenges facing our country.

But you don't want that, because you don't have actual policy positions. You also don't want reasoned and adult conversations to affect voters this November. That's a loser for you, and you know it.

If so, please show some.

Its like Mitt thought that when he ran for President of the United States of America, no one in the press would want to pay any attention to him.

Nothing that happens overseas matters. At all. That's why I thought it would be a good way to spend a week of my limited campaigning time. And why I can't even be bothered to see my wife's Olympian compete, she'll let me know if it performs well.

Romney is channeling his inner Palin in order to play the role of the poor maligned victim.

Mitt regards any reporter or interviewer who has the temerity to hold him accountable for his previously stated positions to be a bullying, biased member of a left-wing conspiracy, and he views any question for which is unwilling or unable to provide an honest, substantive question to be a "gotcha" question.

In short, Romney and his campaign staff feel that members of the news media should act as though they are working for his public relations department, only asking him the questions that he WANTS to be asked.

Congress Reaches Tentative Deal To Avoid Pre-Election Government Shutdown

Congressional leaders on Tuesday announced an agreement to avoid a government shutdown weeks before Election Day, that will fund the government for six months at agreed upon levels when funding expires on Oct. 1.

But the bill still needs to be written and passed by both chambers in time — a challenge for House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), whose members have been hoping to use it as a vehicle to cut deeply into government programs.

“The Speaker and I and the President have agreed on how we’re going to fund the government for the next six months,” said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV). “It will be free of riders. This is very good.”

Note that they've agreed to write legislation, not that such legislation exists. Any bets on how long it is before the TPers rise up and call for the bill to be voted down because they'd rather drive the country into default in order to avoid funding "Obamacare"?

David Limbaugh: If Obama is Re-Elected 'We are Committing National Suicide'

Limbaugh: If we re-elect him we are committing national suicide, I fully believe that. It might be cliché to say this is the most important election we’ve ever had but I don’t think it’s a cliché, I think most elections have incrementally been more important than previous elections because liberalism has been on a steady incremental march during my entire life, we pushed it back during Reagan and some other areas, but they always seem to move the ball towards statism overall and they are continuing to do it, every election is more important than the last, but this one is different in kind rather than degree. Obama is already acting like a flaming leftist, radical, socialist, even Marxist when he faces re-election, and lawlessly, can you imagine what he’ll act like if he is re-elected and perceives himself to have a mandate to take this country completely over the cliff.

...

I think he's committed lawless acts, I think he is exceeded his constitutional authority but the Democratic party is institutionally corrupt and they circled the wagons around Bill Clinton when he was a known felonious perjurer. They are surely not going to do anything with an African American president who they would make a martyr, the Republicans would make a martyr. If the Republicans proceed on any kind of impeachment, Obama will become a martyr and you will increase the chances of his re-election; if he is re-elected, we are doomed.

but they always seem to move the ball towards statism overall

wiksterpedia:

Statism is a term used by political scientists to describe the belief that a government should control either economic or social policy or both to some degree. Statism is effectively the opposite of anarchism. Statism can take many forms. Minarchists prefer a minimal or night watchman state to protect people from aggression, theft, breach of contract, and fraud with military, police, and courts. Some may also include fire departments, prisons, and other functions. Totalitarians prefer a maximum or all encompassing state. Limited government, welfare state, and other options make up the middle territory of the scale of statism. Some anarchists use the term statist in a derogatory sense.
