Sometimes the female human form is amazing. You didn't see what I saw at the beach today.

So I'm watching the first season of "West Wing" on Amazon Prime and I'm not really sure if I like it,and I'm at episode 21. I was a staunch conservative at the time it aired and for a long time afterwards.
I was so conservative in fact that in my last tour of duty as a navy man I let my CPO talk me into reading "The Bell Curve". And I'm african-american. I'm kinda ashamed to admit it now but he was pretty influential in my life and like many at the time,he suffered from Clinton-Derangement Syndrome. He could go on a 20 minute rant about Clinton without stopping to catch his breath once. I loved the guy.

Here we have a fresh, new, clean and shiny thread... and I'm going to soil it with a discussion of racists...
Everybody remember the article by Ron Unz a few days ago, for which he got much recognition and credit in some circles, in which he argued that a nation's "wealth" (a commonly used term but not thoroughly investigated) was not dependent upon IQ but rather that results on IQ tests are more driven by the environment of that nation?
Anyway, the racists/racialists/race-realists are striking back. I won't link to the sites, but I will note that the author (Lynn) of the book which Unz referenced posted his reply on both VDARE and American Renaissance.
Lynn commits several errors (not the least of which are his choice in friends), first by referencing antiquated understandings of "Europeans", then by referencing a new paper (to be published in one of the many Elsevier for-profit journals) that itself is quite questionable, purportedly showing the ability to differentiate "intelligence" among different European Y haplogroups, and so forth.
This is all ... well, it's the equivalent of WTFUWT to real climatology.
It would take quite a write-up to discuss why these supposedly genetic differences aren't really there (hint: they are based only on the Y chromosome, and also have correlations much too low compared to hard science requirements for showing causality).
Anyway, the exploitation of genetics and genomics to further racism is well under way. And Ron Unz probably isn't going to be able to do much to stop it, and given his own inclinations is probably unlikely to take the steps required to fight it in "conservatism", whatever that term comes to mean in the next few years.

I see a lot of equivalence between the folks using genomics to promote racism and the folks back in the early 1900's using skull metrics. It's total bullshit. And "Conservatives" (whatever that means in this context) are of course going to embrace it.
It appears to be an "us and them" world, and the Cons are embracing it. Those of us who believe it's an "us" world are , of course, loonies.

They will rely on the average person's respect for the language of genetics and that same person's ignorance of the science behind genetics. Most people have a very limited real understanding of biology, stats, DNA, and science but a large store of misguided, poorly thought out information. They tend to view words like gene, chromosome, genome as almost magical incantations that bring with them marvels of science and basic truths.
The combination of ignorance and ignorance of their ignorance is an easily manipulable target for racists.

Ask them which gene is responsible for raw intelligence and how many alleles we have a that locus. If they give any answer that contains a single gene then call them on it.

Wow, usually I find Politico44's reporting a lot worse than regular Politico's, but they actually covered the Ohio voting story much better than most so far, touching on many of the important points:
[Link: www.politico.com...]
Mitt Romney sparked a Saturday tit-for-tat by claiming, without pointing to any evidence, that President Obama's campaign is trying to restrict military voting in Ohio.
...
At issue: A lawsuit the Obama campaign filed July 17 that seeks to restore three days of early voting for all of the state's voters. At no point does the lawsuit attempt to curb the rights of active military.
Instead, the federal suit tries to restore three days of early voting for all citizens that Ohio GOP-led state legislature eliminated in 2011. The state law ended early voting on the Friday before Election Day, though federal law allows members of the military to vote until the Monday before Election Day.
Romney's spokesman, Ryan Williams, in an interview Saturday could point to no place in Obama’s lawsuit that seeks to restrict the rights of military voters.
...
Romney, in his statement released under the headline "We Must Defend the Rights of Military Voters," pledged to defend such rights.
“President Obama's lawsuit claiming it is unconstitutional for Ohio to allow servicemen and women extended early voting privileges during the state’s early voting period is an outrage,” Romney said. “The brave men and women of our military make tremendous sacrifices to protect and defend our freedoms, and we should do everything we can to protect their fundamental right to vote.
...
According to the lawsuit, 1.71 million Ohio votes were cast during early voting in 2008, nearly 30 percent of all votes in the state’s election. Of those, 93,000 were cast during the three days prior to the election, the lawsuit states.

There’s a flipside to the point Josh makes below.
After flirting briefly with the outrageous notion that he could bring unemployment down to four percent, Romney’s taken to claiming that under his leadership unemployment will fall to about six percent in his first term, give or take a few tenths of a percent.
That’s fairly consistent with the “Romney boom” his advisers are promising. But here’s the thing: it’s also basically what most economic models say predict will happen no matter what, given safe assumptions.
The business cycle will eventually work its magic.

I have an artist's anatomy book that is a real riot. There's a section regarding ethnicities. At the top of the page is some picture of some smiling Nordic guy... from the "Swedish Travel Information Bureau". That's nice.
Too bad the rest of the pictures are all taken from a book published by a social anthropologist named Carleton C. Coon. The farther down the list, the more off the wall the pictures get, until you hit some picture of some African guy from the "Belgian Congo"
Sure, I don't mind the pictures but the casual racism always makes me feel funny.

Here's an example of that horrible, awful, terrible stimulus money being just thrown away....
My son was diagnosed with autism at age 5. He's now 18 and has one last state mandated test to take before he gets his HS diploma(which is a whole other story about stupid. A kid has 30 credits, only needs 23 to graduate and they won't let him walk with his class at a grad ceremony or get his diploma until this test is passed OR he flunks it 4 times and he applies for an exemption and the state grants it).
Last year the state of Georgia spent 10 million dollars of the dreaded stimulus to rebuild, staff and begin funding it's vocational rehabilitation center in Cave Springs,GA. It serves 52 young adults(ages 18-24)in a program that is literally custom designed to each individual according to need. In my son's case, they will help him get his driver's license, pass the test for his diploma and teach him skills to be able to live on his own. He will also learn about social relationships, money management, personal safety, and anything else that comes up he may need. All this is done at no cost to our family because they use my son's income as the measure of cost. We could never afford it,not in a million years. If he does well there,he will be able to go on to college and Georgia will also pay for that, like a full scholarship.
There may be some who think that's not fair. Or that it costs too much. I believe that having a kid become a productive and tax paying citizen is worth the cost. Otherwise these young people are kind of doomed to a life of low paying jobs and social ostracizing. This has even toned down my tea party parents and sister's constant bitching about tax money being thrown away. I just wanted to share, this is the first good news we've had about our son's future for a long, long time. Sorry for the length of the post.

I think part of the reason Georgia takes such pride in these programs is because of FDR and the facility created in Warm Springs GA which was one of the first of it's kind,at least in the South. Cave Springs is a smaller facility, but both come with lots of good recommendations. It's ironic,FDR is often demonized in GA,but when it comes to this stuff you don't hear much from the right wing against it. I wish they felt the same way about cutting special education programs in the public schools. Without my son's IEP caseworker in high school we never would have heard about this stuff. I may have found it on my own,but it would have been way more difficult to get him into the program without other educators pulling for him.

Have to say that is a good shot. Hitting a small, fast motorbike. Unless they just blew a hole in front of him and he drove into it, but that is kinda Keystone Cop-ish.

Update on the Iranian pilgrims...
Syrian rebels: Kidnapped Iranians are Revolutionary Guards
Syrian rebels claimed the 48 Iranians kidnapped on Saturday are members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, and not pilgrims as Iran alleged, according to footage aired by Al-Arabiya on Sunday.
The rebels “captured 48 of the Shabiha (militiamen) of Iran who were on a reconnaissance mission in Damascus,” said a man dressed as an officer of the Free Syrian Army, in the video aired by Al-Arabiya.

It was probably a direct hit. They use kinetic weapons with very little explosive power in cases like this to minimize collateral damage. It's a direct hit or nothing. Close don't count.

Obama campaign office window smashed during Occupy protest
A window at President Barack Obama's Oakland campaign office was smashed Friday night as a group of protesters marched through downtown.
A group of 100-200 Occupy Oakland protesters began marching down Telegraph Avenue after being denied a permit to protest near the First Friday event at Art Murmur.
A few Obama campaign volunteers were working inside the office when the window was smashed in with a brick. No one was hurt.

Because as you can see in the video in #106 the Occupy protesters cheer as they break the windows. Several individuals in the crowd make statements about Obama being corrupt and "fuck Obama" as they continue dancing. Face it, these idiots are not right wing plants and they're not on your side.

At the point of the attack on the campaign office it was a large drunken street party. The guy that yelled something about Obama being as bad as the rest was yelled at and that's when he yelled 'fuck Obama'.
These Occupy protests have been out of control for months. They are comprised of anybody and everybody looking to protest, party hardy or just act out.
Your preoccupation with the Occupation people is actually more predictable than what will happen on the streets.

IMO if you're seeing such ads/popups, it's likely that one or more items of malware already have a foothold on your machine. I hope you are familiar with a short list of trustworthy anti-malware products, and websites, because they seem to be outnumbered by a large factor by rogue/fake/ransomware products and websites.
A few that I rely on are:

www.pchell.com
www.bleepingcomputer.net
www.malwarebytes.org
The tutorials, forums and links available on these sites are awesome. Good luck.
