American Family Association Spokesman Fischer: Child Kidnapper Is ‘Obeying God Rather Than Man’

Truly bad craziness
Wingnuts • Views: 28,670

Today, American Family Association spokesman Bryan Fischer clarified and expanded on those disturbing tweets he posted yesterday.

And by “clarified,” I mean he confirmed that he really does support the kidnapping of children in same-sex households: Fischer Says Ex-Gay Mom Had an Obligation to God to Kidnap Her Daughter and Flee.

For years now, we have been covering the case of Lisa Miller, a former lesbian who found Christ thanks to Jerry Falwell’s church and then sought to prevent her former partner from having any sort of visitation with the couple’s daughter. After repeated violations of court orders regarding visitation arrangements, Miller was ordered to hand over custody of her daughter, at which points she kidnapped her and fled the country.

Ever since, the case has become a rallying point for anti-gay Religious Right activists and today a trial got underway for a man accused of helping Miller and her daughter flee to South America, prompting Bryan Fischer to come to Miller’s defense by declaring that this kidnapping was entirely justified because the little girl was being sexually abused by Miller’s former partner and so Miller had a responsibility “to obey God rather than man” and had no choice but to kidnap her daughter and run.

I bet $10,000 that Mr. Fischer has a very strange definition of sexual abuse.

Words fail me. Seriously. I can't think of a single thing to say in response to this. This is beyond lunacy.

Hypocritical bastard.

They really are trying to instigate a revolution, setting themselves up in opposition to the law at every turn.

Remember folks, the single biggest threat to our liberties is the danger of creeping Sharia and the Islamic takeover of America.

re: #1 Obdicut

We have the right to act according to our conscience, that is the essense of Civil Disobedience.

But we still have to live with the fact that there will be consequences and cannot place ourselves above the law nor can we expect to escape punishment for it. We can at best hope to make an example that leads to a change of the laws.

that is the flaw in Fischer's line of arguments-

I'll take creeping religious law over religious creeps.

Helpful flowchart, for those who aren't sure.

Do you support kidnapping the kids of gays? -> yes -> you're a fucking creep

fuck no what kind of fucking question is that?!

you're probably not a creep

MormonVoices, a group associated with Foundation for Apologetic Information & Research, included Fischer on its Top Ten Anti-Mormon Statements of 2011 list for saying "Mormonism is not an orthodox Christian faith. It just is not ... It's very clear that the Founding Fathers did not intend to preserve automatically religious liberty for non-Christian faiths."

According to Fisher abortion clinic bombers, the person who murdered dr. Tiller and those harassing abortion providers are also acting according to "God's Law". How long before we have another waco on our hands?

11 jaunte  Wed, Aug 8, 2012 1:44:18pm

Let's see, which might be more disturbing to a child's life: uneventful visitation with a familiar gay ex-partner, or traumatic relocation to Adonde, South America?

If they want to actually try to grab my kid, they won't live long enough to worry about the legal consequences. Not trying to provoke or have a comment removed. I am just stating my unvarnished opinion as what I would do if somebody tried to do something to my family. My response would be immediate and very, very violent.

Didn't Romney already mix up states once or twice this campaign? Can we do some sort of tree-height-coding to help the poor guy out?

Let's ignore for a moment that Mitt Romney's solution to what ailed General Motors was to just let the whole damn thing fail, thus making this choice of topics a rather curious choice at best for Mitt's increasingly self-satirizing campaign. His ad blaming Barack Obama for GM's closing of auto dealerships in Ohio has other problems as well. The outdoor footage at the four second mark? It's a clip of downtown Oklahoma City. Oklahoma City is notable for, among other things, not being in Ohio.

All aboard the failboat.

Clearly the gay ex-partner. Getting kidnapped and stolen to a whole new country where you don't know anyone and don't speak the language and where you're scared for your life is A-OK in God's book.

Why do you hate America?

You have to remember that in this case, the kidnapper was a member of the family.

These are very complex situations, often with very unhappy endings. The only situation I ever supported was the one in which the mother was convinced the father was molesting the little girl (and his previous ex-wife backed her up.)

I used to have legs like that. Actually I still do, but the rest of my body has caught up, unfortunately. Speaking of gymnasts, did they ever think of taking on the high jump? They use their legs like pole vaults on those tumbling runs, and I wonder just how high they really get.

It is not possible to know what the historical Jesus of Nazareth thought of homosexuality, because no one knows what he actually thought or said. All we know is what those who wrote about him after his death attributed to him. But, I tend to think that the actual historical Jesus probably would have disapproved of homosexuality. He probably would have considered as an abomination any sexual practice that deviated from the biblical prescriptions. He was born and raised as an observant Jew. His education would have been the study of the Torah which was the norm the world he lived in. And he was most likely religiously observant his whole life. And, he most likely observed all the biblical laws regarding sexual practices including the prohibition of homosexuality in the Book of Leviticus. But, who knows?
