A Little History Tutorial, from Hatewatch to Bryan Fischer

This has to hurt.

... based solely on its name, the American Family Association’s mission ought to have something to do, broadly, with American families. But instead, its most prominent voices devote themselves to hating Muslims, lying about history, castigating long-dead American Indians for not being Christian enough, and speculating absurdly that the Department of Homeland Security is planning to wage war on American civilians.

And when it comes to families, the AFA rejects out of hand any suggestion of structures that deviate even a tiny bit from a married pair of heterosexuals together with their offspring. Yet it remains the “American Family Association,” presumably because someone understands that the word “family” makes supporters feel good.

Mitt Romney Ad: Obama Has Declared A War On Religion

A new Mitt Romney ad released Thursday accuses President Barack Obama of waging a "war on religion." The ad, along with recent attacks on Obama's welfare policy, signals a move away from attacking the president's handling of the economy.

"President Obama used his health care plan to declare war on religion, forcing religious institutions to go against their faith," says a narrator in the ad. "Mitt Romney believes that’s wrong."

I would think Willard would be the last person who'd want Americans to wonder "What does Mitt Romney believe?"

If he'd released his tax returns he'd at least have an upside. As it is right now people are simply filling in the void with their own imaginations and coming to the conclusion that he's hiding something truly awful. That's a hard perception to look past. As each day passes he loses time for whatever hit he takes from releasing the returns to dissipate while also reinforcing the view that he's secretive, elitist and out of touch.

Weird thing is that the FoxNews site has its own poll (Obama up by 9) as a lead story. FoxNation, OTOH, ignores Fox's own poll and leads with Rasmussen, which gives Romney a 4-point edge.

FoxNation has an open comment section following the poll, and it's filled with the usual gop hyperbole and hate directed toward the prez. FoxNews doesn't even seem to have a comment section. Is this typical? I stay away from both these sites--they actually make HuffPo look "fair and balanced" by comparison, as they are simply unable to say anything positive about Obama. Even HuffPo posts stories showing good news for Romney, in addition to just polls.

A pediatrician who researches near-death experiences involving children has been suspended by Delaware officials after his daughter told investigators she was subjected to waterboarding.

Dr. Melvin Morse and his wife were arrested this week on felony counts of conspiracy and reckless endangering involving their two daughters, ages 6 and 11.

State medical officials said Thursday that Morse would present a “clear and immediate danger” to public health if allowed to continue practicing medicine.

I did not know that legalizing Marijuana was on the November ballot in Colorado

Amendment 64 is an amendment to the
Colorado constitution concerning marijuana,
and, in connection therewith, providing for the
regulation of marijuana; permitting a person
twenty-one years of age or older to consume or
possess limited amounts of marijuana;
providing for the licensing of cultivation
facilities, product manufacturing facilities,
testing facilities, and retail stores; permitting
local governments to regulate or prohibit such
facilities; requiring the general assembly to
enact an excise tax to be levied upon
wholesale sales of marijuana; requiring that the
first $40 million in revenue raised annually by
such tax be credited to the public school capital
construction assistance fund; and requiring the
general assembly to enact legislation
governing the cultivation, processing, and sale
of industrial hemp. If the election was today,
would you vote or against Amendment 64?
For ......................... .47%
Against................... .38%
Not sure ................. .15

Meanwhile in Oregon...
Marijuana in Oregon: Pot legalization measure would give kids quite an education

Measure 80, also known as the Oregon Cannabis Tax Act, would legalize the growing and sale of marijuana for adults 21 and older. From a distance, the citizen initiative seems to reflect Oregon's healthy libertarian streak and its admirably permissive attitude toward private habits. Up close, the measure is more ambitious. It appears eager to indoctrinate the next generation into thinking of marijuana use as no big deal and cannabis cultivation as downright patriotic.

Whoa, the Hutaree prosecution/FBI failed to prove the biggest part of the case.
(Reuters) - A federal judge in Detroit on Wednesday sentenced three members of a Midwest militia group known as the Hutaree to time served on weapons charges, ending attempts to prosecute them for violent revolt that collapsed at trial earlier this year.

David Brian Stone Sr., the leader of the group, and his son Joshua Stone, had pleaded guilty in March to a charge of possessing a machinegun after U.S. District Judge Victoria Roberts dismissed more serious charges against them and five other defendants.

An eighth defendant, Joshua John Clough, pleaded guilty to a weapons charge late last year.

Clough and the two Stones will be on supervised release for two years, a court spokeswoman said.

In all, nine members of the Hutaree, a self-styled Christian militia group, were arrested in March 2010 following an undercover operation by the FBI.

So would I, but I don't see that happening without stemming the hemorrhaging of public sector jobs. And that doesn't happen under a Romney presidency. Tax cuts don't make up for lack of demand, and it's that lack that's slowly killing our economy.

Maryland Rep. Roscoe Bartlett is not exactly toeing the party line when it comes to this winter’s threat of looming, across-the-board restrictions in military spending.

A senior Republican on the House Armed Services Committee and chairman of the Tactical Air and Land Forces Subcommittee, Bartlett said the uproar among his GOP colleagues over the potential cuts amounts to what some would describe “as a hysteria parade.”

“We need to have a national dialogue on this,” Bartlett said. “We need to stop being so partisan on this. We need to stop dramatizing the thing.”

Ohio Early Voting Cutbacks Disenfranchise Minority Voters

"I cannot create unequal access from one county board to another, and I must also keep in mind resources available to each county,” Husted said in explaining his decision to deny expanded early voting hours in heavily Democratic counties. Yet in solidly Republican counties like Warren and Butler, GOP election commissioners have approved expanded early voting hours on nights and weekends. Noted the Cincinnati Enquirer: “The counties where Husted has joined other Republicans to deny expanded early voting strongly backed then-candidate Barack Obama in 2008, while most of those where the extra hours will stand heavily supported GOP nominee John McCain.”

Spectacular. What style?

Basic karate. They actually just study self defense basics, so there is some judo and other styles mixed in as well.

Ah, okay. I study a variant of tae kwon do that is heavily flavored by American styles of self-defense. Good stuff.

The nine-page memo casts Romney's nomination in the direst terms. A press release from the group reads:

"DUMP ROMNEY" contends that no delegates are actually "bound" by law or GOP rules to vote for Romney and that, to win the White House and toss-up Senate seats, delegates must exercise their right to "conscientiously abstain" from Romney on the crucial first ballot, aiming for a stronger ticket leader in subsequent convention voting rounds.

The core of a hard-hitting new 80,000 word book and incubating Tampa insurgency, the entire memo can be read online free via Amazon Kindle Cloud Reader using the Amazon.com search term "DUMP ROMNEY." "Were frontrunners simply entitled to the nomination, a convention wouldn't be necessary," the texts say, noting that Intrade predictive markets gives Obama odds of about 60-40 over Romney and that New York Times political analyst Nate Silver projects about 300 electoral votes for Obama, rating Romney's current odds around 21%.

The memo doesn't specify who Romney should be replaced with.

Jews and Christians Together briefly made the news in March for putting out robocalls in Ohio on behalf of Rick Santorum, then still a presidential candidate. The call accused Romney of supporting "open homosexuality in the military, the appointment of homosexual judges, and the ENDA law, making it illegal to fire a man who wears a dress and high heels to work, even if he's your kid's teacher."

Romney: If Obama can't handle this toddler, how can we expect him to handle OBL and Al Qaeda?
