Missouri GOP Senate Candidate Todd Akin Wants to Repeal Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts

Bad right wing craziness
Wingnuts • Views: 34,646

Missouri Republican Rep. Todd Akin, currently running for the US Senate, says it’s time to take a “second look” at the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Yes, this is how crazy the Republican Party has gotten.

Republican Congressman Todd Akin said Friday afternoon he thinks it’s time for a second look at federal “civil rights and voting rights” laws.

The republican U.S. senate candidate told FOX 2’s Charles Jaco states not the federal government should set voter rules.

Congressman Akin of course is trying to unseat democratic Senator Claire McCaskill. And Akin has always said the federal government’s role should be much smaller than it is.

But Akin says that federal voting rights laws may need to be looked at, changed or overturned is something new. Those laws were passed in 1964, 1965 and 1968. The voting rights act of 1965 prevented mostly southern states from using things like literacy tests to keep African-Americans from voting. The civil rights act of 1964 outlawed similar voting restrictions.

Yes, this is how crazy the Republican Party has gotten.

It's not crazy. It's part of their long term strategy for retaining power.

It is, however, disdainful.

We just want to give power back to the states! If the state abuse that power, the voters can just move!

The article has been revised on Fox 2 's web site to reflect a reply from Congressman Akin (Fox 2 is the local Fox Broadcasting affiliate in St. Louis):

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)– Republican Congressman Todd Akin said Friday afternoon he thinks it’s time for a second look at federal “civil rights and voting rights” laws.

The republican U.S. senate candidate told FOX 2’s Charles Jaco states not the federal government should set voter rules.

Congressman Akin of course is trying to unseat democratic Senator Claire McCaskill. And Akin has always said the federal government’s role should be much smaller than it is.

Other conservatives have also said the voting rights act should get another look. You can see our entire conversation with Congressman Akin on the Jaco report at 8:30 Sunday morning on FOX 2.

Statement from Congressman Todd Akin:

“Congressman Todd Akin believes that the right to vote is fundamental to our country. He supports laws that protect these rights and did not say that he was opposed to the ‘civil rights and voting rights’ laws. Akin has, and always will, support the right to vote.”

This is what Ron Paul is advocating and will rewind civil rights back to the intolerable. Whether intentional or not, consequences like racially motivated hiring or education will increase tensions and violence in the poorest communities.

This is a recipe for economic and social failure.

Right. We've all heard this kind of mumbo jumbo back in the 60s. He's saying states should be setting the rules on the federal government. It's the old "state rights argument." Or as Lee Atwater once said:

You start out in 1954 by saying, "ni**er, ni**er, ni**er." By 1968 you can't say "ni**er" — that hurts you. Backfires. So you say stuff like forced busing, states' rights and all that stuff. You're getting so abstract now [that] you're talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you're talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is [that] blacks get hurt worse than whites. And subconsciously maybe that is part of it. I'm not saying that. But I'm saying that if it is getting that abstract, and that coded, that we are doing away with the racial problem one way or the other. You follow me — because obviously sitting around saying, "We want to cut this," is much more abstract than even the busing thing, and a hell of a lot more abstract than "ni**er, ni**er.

Oh, please. This is what Akin said to Charles Jaco:

Jaco: You think it's time to look at or overturn things like the Civil Rights Act of 64 and 66 and the Voting Rights Act that has become involved in a lot of things like redistricting.

Akin: Well, uh, first of all you're talking about elections, elections have historically always been a state thing. And I didn't realize how important or how good that was until we had that very close race with George Bush, and you had something that goes wrong in Florida. I'm thinking, boy it sure is good that the states managed this and not the federal government, otherwise you'd have to re-hold the whole election process. So I do think that the states having a say in how they do the voting in their own state, that was a good principle laid down many many years ago.

YES, he IS talking about repealing the federal Voting Rights Act.

re: #8 jaunte

What the hell do they mean "get another look."

What I think he is referring to is the rules about minority congressional districts and the requirement that some states get DoJ clearance before changing their election laws or finalizing a redistricting, those provisions all being part of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

As an aside, this is why it has been so much harder for Alabama to enact a Voter ID law as compared with Pennsylvania: Due to its deservedly pre-1965 behavior Alabama essentially has to prove its law does not cause voter suppression, whereas with Pennsylvania it is those suing to block such a law that have the burden of proof upon them.

Indeed, there's a reason why these laws existed in the first place, it's because the states used to be in charge of handling voting laws and they abused that control in order to keep those they didn't want to have a voice from voting. The Voter ID laws demonstrate rather clearly that those sentiments went nowhere, they're just working within the confines of federal law now.

Reagan's Neshoba County Fair "states' rights" speech

Eulogizing on Reagan's death, Washington Post columnist William Raspberry noted of the incident:

It was bitter symbolism for black Americans (though surely not just for black Americans). Countless observers have noted that Reagan took the Republican Party from virtual irrelevance to the ascendancy it now enjoys. The essence of that transformation, we shouldn't forget, is the party's successful wooing of the race-exploiting Southern Democrats formerly known as Dixiecrats. And Reagan's Philadelphia appearance was an important bouquet in that courtship.

31 Gus  Fri, Aug 17, 2012 9:55:12pm

Why do conservatives have a tin ear on racism?

32 Charles Johnson  Fri, Aug 17, 2012 9:55:12pm

I don't know why anyone is acting like this isn't something Akin would say -- he's far from the only GOP politician talking about repealing these laws. It's part of the GOP platform in more than one state.

They're not even really trying to hide it. I'm surprised Akin's handlers are even bothering to try to obfuscate his statements.

33 jaunte  Fri, Aug 17, 2012 9:56:11pm

Akin is full of it.
There is a process to modify the requirements of the Voting Rights Act.

Section 5 of the Act requires that the United States Department of Justice, through an administrative procedure, or a three-judge panel of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, through a declaratory judgment action "preclear" any attempt to change “any voting qualification or prerequisite to voting, or standard, practice, or procedure with respect to voting..." in any "covered jurisdiction."

...snip....

]Bail out
The term "bail out" refers to the process by which covered jurisdictions may seek exemption from Section 5 coverage.[18] In order to bail out, a covered jurisdiction needs to obtain a declaratory judgment from the District Court for the District of Columbia.[5] Eighteen Virginia jurisdictions not covered by Section 5 Preclearance requirements have successfully "bailed out."[18]

Before August 1984, this process required covered jurisdictions to demonstrate that the voting test that they used immediately before coverage was not used in a discriminatory fashion. The 1982 amendment included two significant changes.[18] First, Congress provided that where a state is covered in its entirety, individual counties in that state may separately bail out. Second, Congress completely redesigned the bailout standard. The post-1984 bailout standard requires that a covered jurisdiction demonstrate nondiscriminatory behavior during the 10 years prior to filing and while the action is pending and that it has taken affirmative steps to improve minority voting opportunities.[18][19]

On September 22, 2010, the first two jurisdictions outside the state of Virginia - Kings Mountain, North Carolina, and Sandy Springs, Georgia - successfully "bailed out" from Section 5 Preclearance requirements.[20]

I was going to add to this. By saying that conservatives have a tin ear on racism I'm not saying "all conservatives are racist." It's just that a vast majority of them have a tin ear on racial issues, a lack of empathy perhaps, or simply having race issues fly right over their heads. The states rights meme being the biggest since it was in fact the main cause of the Civil War. That's when the "states rights" meme began and yes, it was the Democrats of the south who were later known as Dixiecrats that made this rallying call and later went on to either get things right or move on to the Republican Party.

Reagan's Neshoba County Fair "states' rights" speech

Actually it was Richard Nixon who had first wooed Southerners in 1968 and 1972. In the latter election he was helped less by racism and more by the left-wing social views of Sen. McGovern, which annoyed social conservatives in the South.

But the "Southern Strategy" had not worked at all in 1976, due in large part to the fact that in the year the Democratic candidate was Jimmy Carter of Georgia. States like South Carolina which had gone massively for Nixon just four years before sided with Carter in 1976, and the viability of the GOP's efforts in the South were in doubt.

Ronald Reagan dispelled those doubts, winning over Southern voters with a combination of social conservatism, public focus on American exceptionalism, a return to openly anti-Communist policies abroad, a major military build-up, and a greater emphasis on federalism. The problem is that southern states used "States Rights" to extremely bad ends for a long time before Reagan arrived on the scene and sometimes still do so.

Example: Michelle Malkin goes a whistlin' this week with her article titled Black like us: The race clownery of Obama-Biden, a title which was played up prominently in the usual circles, such as VDARE (who have been pushing Malkin's articles significantly) and under which title it was circulated around the net.

However, a funny thing happened to the story on the way over the National Racists Online - they changed the article title. By reworking a few paragraphs, they republished it as "Brother Biden".

Hmmm... fascinating... do you think perchance that one of the editors over at NRO is still smarting from the whole Derbyshire event?

And, what does it say about Malkin and her fan base, which just happens to overlap with the "base" of the GOP, when NRO has to change a title of one of Malkin's pieces?

Well yes, a person can find political expression in America, provided that they can convince a sufficient majority of Americans to agree with them. Sometimes this is also possible on a smaller scale within a state or municipality. The pension and benefits referendum held recently in San Diego are examples of such expression.

One cannot, however, legitimately write other law-abiding Americans out of the political picture in order to find one's "expression", for they have their own rights to pursue their own goals as well.

Her sponsors are essentially buying political ads, but they get to deduct it as a business expense. This is why her and other like her (eg Hannity) are not interested in facts or rational analysis, they are running political ads posing as news.

Racism alleged in northwest killings

A young couple accused of killing four people in a multistate crime spree last fall have been indicted on federal racketeering charges alleging the rampage was part of a campaign to "purify" and "preserve" the white race, the U.S. Attorney for Oregon, said Friday.

Muslim's grave vandalized a 6th time

Hassan Mustafa Hassan Abdallah is one of hundreds of Muslims buried alongside people of other faiths in Evergreen Cemetery.

But the Jordanian diplomat's grave is the only one that has been repeatedly targeted by vandals, and neither police nor his family knows why.

Abdallah's grave was vandalized for the sixth time in the last 17 months last week, even though he died more than a decade ago, Evergreen Park police said.

Cemetery employees called police Thursday after they found anti-Muslim words and gang symbols scrawled on a headstone, a bench and a concrete slab at his grave, police Lt. Pete Donovan said. Anti-gay slogans were also visible on the grave Friday morning as a worker tried to remove the graffiti.

Constitution of 2010

Centre-right President Leonel Fernández ordered for a new constitution to be drafted so it could be established in mid 2009. The constitution has faced notable criticism, both abroad and at home, with opponents referring to it as an "injustice" and as "step backwards" for ensuring of human rights in the country, especially towards minorities. A complete ban on all forms of same-sex unions[5] and abortion (Article 30) have been drafted for inclusion into the new constitution, and have been heavily lobbied for by the Roman Catholic Church[6] and Evangelical Christians.[7] Should the constitution pass, it would become the sixth jurisdiction in the world with a complete, no exceptions ban on abortion (after Chile, Malta, El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Vatican City) and the first country in the world to constitutionally ban all forms of recognition for same-sex couples. The anti-abortion amendment was easily approved by a vote of 128 to 34.[8] The constitution has also been criticized for "oppressing the rights of Haitian immigrants."[9][unreliable source?] The National Assembly reportedly largely approved the new constitution on September 17,[10][11][12] though unspecified delays have postponed its final ratification until sometime next week.[13]. Finally the new constitution was Proclaimed on 26 January 2010 to coincide with the born day of one of Republic Founding Father Juan Pablo Duarte.

That's seriously his argument? Gosh if you actually took every party at its word then pretty much no Communist party would be dictatorial and authoritarian. Boykin wants his listeners to ignore the fact that the German left were among the strongest opponents of Hitler and the Nazis. Sorry Boykin, you can't accuse of being multiculturalist PC freaks while at the same time saying we're akin to a white nationalist party. You fail. If you ask me the whole right wing attempt to claim the Nazis as members of the left is guilt over the 1920's/30's right wing's naivete about Fascism and Nazism. It's also a desire to paint every evil ever done as being left wing.

Brain damage from sports impact is something which seems to be discussed in an almost politic way. By that I mean there are groups of opinions that are loosely formed but are congealing below the surface. I think a lot of lip service is given to the idea, by those who make money off the entire enterprise of sports, to impress those who express concern, in the same sort of way that say oil companies do when they express concern about climate change.

The 6 Craziest Disguises Ever Used in the History of War

During the 1999 Kosovo War, NATO sent hundreds of planes to bomb Serb troops in Kosovo every day for 78 days straight. NATO commanders claimed that this rain of destruction destroyed 120 tanks, 220 armored personnel carriers and 450 artillery pieces and killed 5,000 Serb soldiers.

So imagine their surprise when after the war was over the Serb army that rolled out of Kosovo looked pretty much the same as the one that had rolled in. It turned out NATO had barely touched it. So ... what exactly had they been bombing that whole time? A bunch of laughably bad fakes.

The Serbs knew that their air force was complete crap and incapable of defending the country. So, knowing that the NATO bombers would have free rein, they built fake tanks, fake artillery, fake anti-aircraft guns -- basically an entire fake army for the bombers to destroy. And then they put it places where it was sure to be spotted. Real stuff was hidden deep in the woods or inside buildings. And they really didn't try very hard -- here is an "artillery gun" made from a pipe and plastic sheeting which looks more like laundry. What was more important was that they had heaters inside them so they would show up on IR sensors as vehicles with their engines running.

But the "Southern Strategy" had not worked at all in 1976, due in large part to the fact that in the year the Democratic candidate was Jimmy Carter of Georgia in that year the Republican nominee was a guy who'd been appointed by a crook who had to resign, and he'd then pardoned the crook. Also, the Republican nominee said something really stupid about Poland at the debate. States like South Carolina which had gone massively for Nixon just four years before sided with Carter in 1976, and the viability of the GOP's efforts in the South were in doubt.

Hook-legged spider found in Oregon cave

A group of cave explorers and scientists have made a rare discovery: an entirely new taxonomic family of spider in the caves of southern Oregon.

Only two other spider families (the taxonomic group above both genus and species) have been found since 1990, and this is the first newly discovered, native one uncovered in North America since 1890, said California Academy of Sciences researcher Charles Griswold, lead author of the study that described the species.

So far, the family consists only of the one species described, which the researchers named Trogloraptor marchingtoni. The species is named after Neil Marchington, a member of the Western Cave Conservancy, who first discovered the spider. The genus name, Trogloraptor, means "cave robber."

It's an apt name for a spider with unique hooks, or claws, on its legs, which the researchers believe are used to snatch flying insects, like midges, out of the air. With its legs outstretched, the spider measures up to 3 inches (8 centimeters) long.

"They're biggish," Griswold said. "But when you're in a cave and it's dark and there's only the beam of your head lamp, they look much bigger. It's quite astonishing to see them hanging from a few threads." [Gallery: Spooky Spiders]

The Russians tried many tactics to neutralize what turned out to be the Luftwaffe's last big action on the Eastern Front. Their Maskirovka (deception) tactics proved effective, but the centerpiece of their efforts to deny the German offensive air support was a major attack on German controlled airfields the day Operation Citadel was to begin. This attack failed; The Germans had brought forward new radar systems that the USSR had not know about due the tight secrecy surrounding their deployment. Those radars picked up the incoming Soviet strike packages in time for the Luftwaffe's ME-109 and 110's and FW-190s to scramble into the air and devastate the attackers before they could deliver their bombs. This proven one of the few cases in WWII where the bombers by and large did not get through.

Donald Trump said women may like President Barack Obama because they "don't know him" and "don't get what's going on."

Trump criticized Obama as "somebody that will say some very nasty things" and said the president and Vice President Joe Biden are running "a very vicious campaign against Mitt Romney and the Republicans."

“[Obama] is a person that is not the nice person that some people think," Trump said. "And his popularity rating -- while high -- I think if people knew the facts, the rating would actually be extremely low."

The GOP is a clear and present problem in the US right now, with obvious solutions-- push back against their anti-scientific, racist, Gilded Age ideas and restore the US to fiscal and social sanity. Terror from radical Islam is still a danger, but it isn't actually as harmful to the US as our political system becoming broken.

“A genocidal massacre is taking place in Myanmar these days, in the heart of Asia,” wrote columnist Hussein Shabakshi in yesterday’s edition of the pan-Arab newspaper Asharq Al Awsat.

World powers were quick to embrace Myanmar as soon as the reclusive, resource-rich country announced structural reforms earlier this year. Now, however, it appears that those world powers are too slow and too shy in condemning the Myanmar government for conducting unlawful killings of dozens of Muslims since June, he said.

According to conflicting reports, the death toll is anywhere between 80 and 200.

Formerly known as Burma, Myanmar had been a prosperous and stable country after its independence from Britain in 1948 until it was taken over by an iron-fisted junta in 1962.

The persecution of the Muslim minority in the country, poorly covered by the media as it is, has a history. For instance, about 25,000 Muslims were killed by extremist Buddhists in 1962. In 2009, about 1,500 members of the country’s Muslim minority were displaced and fled to Thailand.

Unfortunately, even the reaction of the Burmese rights activist-turned politician, Aung San Suu, was lukewarm, the columnist said. The words she used were “more like sign language” and fell way short of “unequivocal condemnation” of her country’s government.

I totally hadn't heard about that. Hopefully we can put some economic and trade pressure on Myanmar to stop the ethnic killings.

If Ryan's mom turns out to be useful for his campaign, then people making fun of this will seem silly. If she's just being hauled out in some cornpone attempt at plucking heartstrings, it's going to be Ryan who seems silly.

These days, I would do my level best to keep family members out of any political campaign, since the media is so scandal-hungry and will turn their lives upside down.

The day after Republican Mitt Romney announced Paul Ryan as his running mate, President Barack Obama’s campaign tweeted a gender-specific warning about the Wisconsin vice presidential pick.

"Make sure the women in your life know: Paul Ryan supports banning all abortions, even in cases of rape or incest."

...

Our conclusion

President Obama, through a campaign tweet, pegged Paul Ryan as supporting a ban on abortions, "even in cases of rape or incest."

Ryan does oppose those exceptions. Obama’s Twitter claim misfires in saying Ryan supports banning "all" abortions. In some cases, he has supported an exception for when a mother’s life is at stake.

That’s an important detail that is left out. We rate Obama’s claim Half True.

Because the GOP is more dangerous to the future right here, right now, in the US. They aren't terrorists, but if you look at larger historical trends terrorists have relatively little impact over long scales of time while political parties can have huge and long lasting deep impacts to everyone's long term futures.

E.G. Bismarck and his nationalist empire cohorts really shaped the 20th century a lot more than the Black Hand, even though the latter are given credit for triggering the First World War. Bismarck created the conditions that made the first world war a necessity by evolving the decaying Royalist philosophies and tribal feudalism into the far right Euro-fascism we see to this day, while the Black Hand merely reacted to the environment he created.

Czech 'Breivik imitator' arrested in Ostrava

A man suspected of planning attacks similar to those carried out in Norway by Anders Behring Breivik has been arrested in the Czech Republic, according to police.

Police said an assault rifle, explosives, ammunition and police clothing were found in his apartment.

The 29-year-old old man was detained in the eastern city of Ostrava a week ago.

Breivik, dressed as a police officer, shot dead 69 people on an island after setting off a bomb in Oslo last year.

The BBC's Rob Cameron in Prague says police in Ostrava were alerted to the suspect because he used the name of Breivik in email correspondence.

Police searched the apartment on 10 August, but have only now disclosed details of what was found.

MOSCOW, August 18 (RIA Novosti)

Czech police detained a man alleged to have been planning terrorist attacks similar to the massacre carried out by Anders Behring Breivik in Norway in 2011, local media said.

The unnamed 29-year-old caught the police’s eye by using “Breivik” as an online nickname, Czech News Agency said on Saturday.

But the similarity ran deeper: when investigators searched the man’s home, they uncovered firearms, explosives and elements of police uniforms. Breivik, a rightwing radical who is on trial in Norway, killed 77 by planting a bomb in Oslo while going on a shooting rampage on the isle of Utoya dressed as a police officer.

Czech police find bomb, arrest Norway killer sympathiser

AFP - Police in the Czech Republic have arrested a man who sympathised with Norwegian mass killer Anders Behring Breivik and was likely planning a bomb attack, authorities said Saturday.

Police swooped on the 29-year-old man's apartment in the northeast town of Ostrava on August 10 and found a large stash of weapons including an automatic weapon, a bomb and other explosive material.

"The components of the explosive device were operational," Ostrava police chief Radovan Vojta said.

He said it was not immediately known who the man, whose name was not released, may have been targeting, adding that the investigation was in its early stages.

Continues.

I'd never even heard of Al Quds Day until today, so I had to look it up. It seems to be a Shia thing started by Iran. They're a tiny minority, so who cares? There's no shortage of crazy, hateful crap out there. Like the KKK, Geller, etc. their hate speech is protected by our Constitution. Deal with it.

So that's it? You just dropped by the thread to complain about how LGF has changed? There are still plenty armchair "counter-jihadist" sites that obsess over that crap 24/7 if you need a fear & hate fix. We've got a bunch of bat guano crazy wingnuts in Congress & in state governments across the country directly affecting our laws right now, yet you want to waste time having a case of the vapors over some Shia event that'll last a couple of hours and then disappear back into obscurity until next year? Get a grip. Sheesh.

Not to mention the lazy comment dropper could post a Page on whatever he or she finds is the most important kind of crazy. Been here since '06, that's plenty of time to learn how it works.

Lol.

Ryan does oppose those exceptions. Obama’s Twitter claim misfires in saying Ryan supports banning "all" abortions. In some cases, he has supported an exception for when a mother’s life is at stake.

Contradictory much?
In some cases? Does this mean in other cases he hasn't?
Which is it?

Watched a little of Ryan's speech to residents of The Villages this morning. Turned it off when he started talking about how much he "admires and respects" our military veterans, to a lot of audience flag-waving.

The Ryan budget plan would reduce spending on veteran’s benefits, while providing additional funds for weapons and military programs that even military leaders believe are unnecessary.

According to a recent message from Veterans for Common Sense, Rep. Ryan’s 2013 budget plan would cut $11 billion from benefit programs for veterans. It would replace current veteran’s health programs with a voucher system, as Ryan has proposed for Social Security. Costs for veterans would increase.[Link: davidcortright.net...]

From your link, Czech 'Breivik imitator' arrested in Ostrava:

Police searched the apartment on 10 August, but have only now disclosed details of what was found.

Our correspondent says police raided the property after being tipped off that he was planning to detonate a large explosive device crafted from an aircraft bomb.

The man was carrying a remote controlled detonator when he was arrested, he says.

OMG. Serisously? Vdare writer. Of course. It's so sad. Michelle was actually a bright young woman at one point. Another one that went bonkers after 9/11. She might have PTSD. I think a lot of Americans have 9/11-PTSD. She probably could be cured.

It's been almost eleven years at this point; I seriously doubt anyone that went creeping towards RWNJ-dom after 9/11 that hasn't been brought to their senses by this point because of the company that they are keeping and the stuff that they are doing/saying isn't going to be "cured".

Turning weak minds away from fear and hatred is extremely hard under the best of circumstances, but people have to want to; I happen to believe that Malkin, Geller, and their ilk don't want to be helped, because fear and hatred gave them fame and fortune that they would not otherwise enjoy.

273 labman57  Sun, Aug 19, 2012 8:42:43am

We are the Tea Party movement. Our goals:

1. Take back the country, because we refuse to be associated with it so long as that black, foreign-born, socialist Muslim is living in the White House.

2. Return to the values and tenets of our Founding Fathers. If they wanted a Civil Rights Act in America, why did so many own slaves? If they believed that women and ethnic minorities should be able to vote, then why didn't they include these rights in their final draft of the U.S. Constitution? And while we're at it, let's repeal the 17th Amendment, because we really cannot trust the simple-minded electorate with important decisions such as who should represent the states in the U.S. Senate.

3. Destroy "ObamaCare", because the government has no business regulating the private health care insurance industry. And because the government has no right to kill grandma. That's the job of your HMO or PPO. And by the way, keep your filthy hands off my Medicare coverage!

4. Create a smaller government, because the feds have no business telling Americans what do to ... unless you're gay, or you wish to purchase marijuana for personal use, or you need an abortion, or you wish to obtain contraceptives.

5. Demonstrate our support for the health and well-being of women … by greatly reducing affordable access to breast cancer screenings and other preventative health care resources … and by requiring women to "spread them" and provide a womb with a view for Uncle Sam.

6. Deny the impact of human activity on climate change. Because everyone knows that if global warming is real, it's simply "God's will".
7. Make Christianity the official religion and English the official language of the United States, because native English-speaking, Christian folks are the only truly patriotic Americans.

8. Destroy labor unions, because besides the 40-hour work week, paid vacation time, workers' compensation, sick days, overtime pay, regulations regarding workplace health and safety conditions, health benefits, pension plans, etc. … what have they ever done for the typical American wage earner?

9. Stop spending so much money! Except when we need to invade another country that pisses us off. Or if it's done to support programs and policies that help to further our own political agendas.
To that end, let's drastically reduce funding for food stamps and other programs that help people in poverty to make ends meet … such as providing hungry children from impoverished families with a nutritious meal while at school.

10. Reduce the deficit ... at the same time that we're gonna give kickbacks to the lobbyists and huge tax breaks to all of those corporations and ultra-wealthy individuals that helped to finance our little "party".

11. Embrace an economic scorched earth policy approach to reducing the national debt. Because if Congress refuses to eliminate Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security, we'll do everything in our power to destroy the economic viability of the nation. Negotiation and compromise is not in our repertoire -- It's our way or the highway.

12. To demonstrate our commitment to our sacred U.S. Constitution, we strive to eliminate those Amendments that conflict with our ideology and simply ignore other sections that we find inconvenient to honor.

13. To demonstrate our patriotic love for this nation, we propose to secede from the Union.

14. And if you won't let us attain our goals by electing us to office ... well, we can always resort to "Second Amendment remedies".

Any questions?
