Rep. Steve King Denies That Young Women Get Pregnant From Statutory Rape or Incest

Good freaking grief, Republicans
Wingnuts • Views: 20,201

Iowa Rep. Steve King, who appeared on a panel discussion with white supremacists at the last CPAC convention, is in the news today for saying something every bit as stupid and hateful as Rep. Todd Akin’s “legitimate rape” comments.

King says he didn’t want to give his thoughts on Akin’s comment because he wasn’t sure of the context of the remark. He did, however, say he supports Akin’s character.

“Todd Akin is a strong Christian man, with a wonderful family,” King said.

That’s how Congressman King sees Todd Akin. But Akin’s comment about rape had both Democrats and Republicans asking him to drop out of the Missouri Senate race on Monday.

Akin told a reporter that pregnancies from rape are “really rare” and suggested rape victims are less likely to get pregnant. …

King supports the “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act.” It would ban Federal funding of abortions except in cases of forcible rape. Right now, Medicaid also covers abortions for victims of statutory rape or incest - for example, a 12 year old who gets pregnant.

Congressman King says he’s not aware of any young victims like that.

“Well I just haven’t heard of that being a circumstance that’s been brought to me in any personal way, and I’d be open to discussion about that subject matter,” he said.

The GOP should just change its name to the Caveman Party.

A female Republican official no less:

In an interview with KTVI-TV over the weekend, Akin had said that “the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down,” referring to pregnancy after so-called “legitimate rape.”

Barnes “echoed Mr. Akin’s statement that very few rapes resulted in pregnancy,” according to the Times, and she added that “at that point, if God has chosen to bless this person with a life, you don’t kill it.”

“That’s more what I believe he was trying to state,” she insisted. “He just phrased it badly.”

Akin is still ahead in the polls today by 1%. Enough to give his stubborn Misouri Mule nature a justification not to quit.

Schlafly backed Akin early on in the race and her endorsement is prominently displayed on Akin’s website, but he may consider finding other defenders since Schlafly herself refuses to recognize the existence of marital rape: “By getting married, the woman has consented to sex, and I don't think you can call it rape,” Schlafly said back in 2007. What you have today is close to ten percent of the population is Muslim. You have 307 million Americans, you have 9 million Shiite Iranians who fled from Iran after 1979 when the Shah fell—these were allies of the U.S. if they had not fled they would have been killed by Khomeini—7 million Arabs, about 16 million between the Shiites and the Sunnis, four million Farrakhan Nation of Islam, that’s 20 million. I can tell you with all authenticity because I’ve been collecting this information all around the country that there are charter jets bringing Muslims into this country every day for free, at the expense of the U.S. taxpayer of course, people in Washington are bribed, the floodgates are open and they’re bringing in Muslims from Somalis, Palestinians, Bosnians, Algerians, Egyptians. Nobody even has a clue to exactly how many, I predict there are between 20 to 30 million Muslims in America and this fact is not lost on the election campaign in November.

If you crammed 500 into a plane, it would take 40,000 747s to fly in 20 million people.

It also screws up Akin's narrative. The idea was, hardy har, women don't get pregnant from 'real rape'. If King was paying attention, he'd note that means they get pregnant, from, you know, fifteen year old girls messing around with 'boyfriends' in their twenties.

In other words, statutory rape. Get it straight, you moron.

Related, showed up on my Facebook feed awhile back.

This argument is not without merit, but it is not an absolute one.

And that is what this discussion is about: the existence of a foetus must be weighed against the interests of the mother.

I cannot begin to put myself into every woman's place (nor could I fit into any shoe smaller than ansize 8), but I do believe that society could and should do more to encourage pregnant women to keep their children and offer assistance with childcare and education instead of simply criminalizing their choice.

Illinois Rep. Bobby Schilling Donating Akin Money To Charity

“The statements made by Rep. Todd Akin over the weekend do not come anywhere close to reflecting my values. They were wrong and inexcusable,” Schilling said in a statement Tuesday. “In light of these deplorable comments, my family and I decided yesterday to donate a $2,000 contribution we received from Rep. Akin’s leadership PAC in 2010 to the Rock Island County Children’s Advocacy Center.

“As a father, a husband, and a close friend to people who have been scarred by the evils of rape, I could never stand with someone who said something so contrary to our basic human values.”

For example, if there's a sexual predator out there who has impregnated a young girl, say a 13 year old girl, and it happens in America more times than you and I like to think, that sexual predator can pick that girl off the playground at the middle school and haul her across the state line and force her to get an abortion to eradicate the evidence of his crime, and bring her back and drop her off at the swing set, and that's not against the law in the United States of America.

Simply having a Muslim father doesn't make one Muslim. It has to be consciously and sincerely chosen—i.e. when a child is of age s/he would be required to "take" the shahadah (make the declaration of belief).

If one is raised as an observant Muslim this would happen automatically as the shahadah is recited in each of the five daily prayers.

Yes it does. They're not Protestants, so the deeply rooted Anglo-Protestant concept of religion as an individual manifestation of conscience is not a big part of their culture.

This is also what atheists from largely culturally Protestant backgrounds completely fail to get it when people practice, say, Judaism, without a deep accompanying faith in God. That doesn't compute if your grandparents were Presbyterians.
