Wacko Birther Anti-Immigrant Sheriff Arpaio to Speak at GOP Convention

Birthers will be well-represented at the RNC
Politics • Views: 28,061

Well, the Republican Party has pretty much lost every black person in America, so now they’re working on a similar strategy for Latinos by inviting Arizona’s far right anti-immigrant Birther Sheriff Joe Arpaio to speak at the Republican National Convention.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is scheduled to speak to delegates from western states on Aug. 30 during the Republican National Convention, the Arizona Republican Party said in a press release.

“Sheriff Joe is a good friend and a great Republican, a former member of the Electoral College representing Arizona, and he’s wildly popular not just in Maricopa County but throughout the state and the country,” said Tom Morrissey, Chairman of the Arizona Republican Party in the release.

In a tongue-in-cheek move, Arpaio will speak near the elephant enclosure at the Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa, Fla. The elephant is the symbol of the Republican Party.

With Donald Trump also planned to appear, the right wing’s Krazy Konspiracy Krew will be very visible this year.

UPDATE at 8/23/12 5:49:37 pm

A little more info about Sheriff Joe: Arpaio Made Joke of Probe in TX Speech.

PHOENIX - An audio recording has surfaced of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio playing his refusal to cooperate in a racial profiling investigation for laughs at a fundraiser for a Texas anti-illegal-immigration group.

He ridicules politicians who sought the probe and displays contempt for federal authorities who were - and still are - investigating him on two fronts.

The dismissive comments in 2009 by Arpaio came as the U.S. Justice Department had already launched a civil-rights probe of his trademark immigration patrols, and the FBI already was examining abuse-of-power allegations for the sheriff’s investigations of political foes.

In the September 2009 speech in Houston, Arpaio boasted that he arrested hundreds of illegal immigrants after politicians and federal investigators started to pick apart his patrols. He said he wouldn’t cooperate with the inquiry but would tone down the patrols - if he was proven wrong.

“But I’m not. After they went after me, we arrested 500 more just for spite,” the self-proclaimed “America’s toughest sheriff” said, pausing for laughter and applause. …

Arpaio said his only regret in making the speech was that he used the wrong figure for the number of illegal immigrants arrested after the civil-rights inquiry began.

“It was wrong,” Arpaio said. “It wasn’t 500. It was thousands.”

You're right, he is a great Republican, Tom. A perfect example of what the party has become.

Thank God they cleared that up.

What these people always were. They were busting immigrant labor heads in the 1930s, the immigrants were just from Oklahoma.

Hey, Charles:

I know you have no control over the ads, but I'm getting one for a hand sculpted Sarah Palin votive candle.

Not complaining. The thing is alternately hilarious and soul-chilling. It also looks like it's made out of Elmer's glue.

Hurricane Gustav in 2008 and now Issac. Two GOP conventions and two threatening hurricanes. What are the odds if it happened during the Democratic conventions it would be "A sign from Gawd"? Maybe someone is trying to tell somebody something. Eh?

From the site:

Sarah Palin has transformed herself from a polarizing politician to a polarizing pop culture icon. To represent this phenomenon, two artists from Brooklyn have hand sculpted her image in an historic pose and reproduced it in a temporary medium. Â Whether you want to show the world your love of Sarah Palin or simply want to melt her brain, this candle is for you.

Our Sarah Palin bust stands 10 inches tall and is made of a mixture of paraffin and soy wax to give it a wonderful creamy marble finish. Â Give the Republican in your family a piece of art to proudly display on the bookshelf in their corner office at the fortune 500 company, or give the Democrat in your family a hilarious gag to be used as an icebreaker at the next anti-fracking-vegan-book-club meeting.

Just got back from a run to the local Walfart. Out in the lot was an SUV with "Save America" "Romney was born and raised here" and other such ignorance on it in soap and the owner was standing there holding forth at an equal intellectual level. It flashed through my mind to go poke him with a metaphorical stick, but only briefly. One shouldn't tease the animals after all.

A Sarah Palin candle? Because nothing says affection like lighting up the person you admire.

58 labman57  Thu, Aug 23, 2012 6:40:46pm

The GOP's little Tampa get-together is looking less like a national convention and more like a primal scream therapy session for patients at the local mental health sanitarium.

59 moderatelyradicalliberal  Thu, Aug 23, 2012 6:42:44pm

Well that's OK. The GOP has voter suppression laws will deal with all of the Hispanics they piss off by having Sheriff Asshole speak.

60 HappyWarrior  Thu, Aug 23, 2012 6:48:55pm

I really can think of no greater FU to Latino voters than having Sheriff Joe speak at the convention. So, of course Latinos will vote against Romney and the Republicans will cry that the Dems are having illegals vote. Same old bullshit.

Why don't the Republicans just get the latest Grand Wizard of the KKK to speak at their convention? Would appeal to the same voters that Trump/Arpaio are dog whistling to.
