Mitt Romney is saying to the right-wing base: "I'm not going to come out and promise that I'll work hard to make all abortions illegal, even when the life of the mother is in danger. I'm not going to come out and promise that I'll work hard to discriminate against people based on their sexual orientation. As I'm sure you've noticed by now, there are a lot of things that I can't promise you. I know you're probably disappointed in me for this."
"But one thing I can give you: I can show the same bad character that you have, when you insult the Obama family with this birther stuff. I hope that when I make an offensive joke about this ordinary American family, and the events when they brought a new child into this world, that my display of bad character is enough for you to vote for me. See -- I'm one of you!"
