For now the MSM is really excited about checking facts but I think that will blow over. Not long ago they were reporting stuff from twitter as news. I think reporters are using the prepackaged fact checks as filler. It's not really a change in the attitude towards journalism, looks like it might just be another manifestation of lazy reporting.

Lazy reporting would bother me less than letting ad revenue steer coverage. I am not sure which of the two is more responsible for the lackadaisical fact-checking.

by my reading he made the barest, most soft core attempt to put it to ryan how much he lied, and then gave up and let ryan change the subject and slip-n-slide

but i give the fox news reporter credit for not avoiding the lying issue completely

i mean, how pitiful is it that even fox news can't avoid noticing the massive onslaught of falsehoods?

i'm sorry KT - am i misinterpreting you here? on second read you seem to be unsatisfied with reporters merely recycling the reports of fact checkers

my response was different - that reporters would report what fact checkers said as a way of showing that they were not intruding their own opinions, but objectively reporting what other people had found

Ah, ok. No Problems. Another potential pit fall I can see is that now campaign press releases and dishonest partisan sites like Think Progress are running their own fact checking operations. At some point the whole thing might devolve if the press goes back to the "he said/she said" model of reporting competing fact check claims.
It's a very welcome trend in journalism and I'm very happy to see it. I just wonder how long it's going to last.

Well, that's because you were. And was mocked for good reason. So we invaded Iraq.

OMG! Idaho, Google Prop 1,2 and 3. Luna is a idiot.

Hell, let me do it for you.

Proposition 1 takes away teachers’ freedom to speak up on behalf of Idaho’s students. It makes it illegal for our teachers to discuss classroom funding issues with their own school administrators and it bans them from talking about overcrowding in their classrooms or school safety issues during contract negotiations.

Proposition 2 forces teachers to teach to the test instead of allowing them to inspire more creative thinking in our children.

Prop 3 imposes a largely unfunded mandate that takes away local control and dictates how and what we teach our kids. Forcing local schools to buy expensive technology and to pay for replacement parts will be much more costly than the backers of the laws claim. Kids are kids. Hardware will break. Taxpayers will be left to foot the bill.

Did I say Luna was an Idiot?

I suspect Eastwood is a member of a Republican party that exists mostly in his mind and is built on fond memories of the noble ideals espoused by a party many decades ago. Paul Ryan Statement on GM’s Announcement

October 13, 2008

WASHINGTON – Wisconsin’s 1st District Congressman Paul Ryan released the following statement regarding General Motors’ decision to discontinue production of their current product at the Janesville Assembly Plant on December 23, 2008:

“GM’s decision to end production of their SUVs at the end of this year gets at the heart of our economic crisis. Today’s announcement is disappointing, although not surprising given the drop-off of sales of SUVs. I will continue to do all that I can to support those in our community hit hardest by this loss, as we work to rebuild and revitalize Southern Wisconsin.

“Contrary to headlines I’ve read this morning, it is also critical to note that this accelerated timeline applies only to the current SUV product at the plant. I am encouraged by the tireless work of state, local, and union leaders who have offered a comprehensive incentives package to GM to bring another product to the plant. GM and local officials have continued their dialogue on keeping GM in Janesville, and I am hopeful that their talks will be successful.”

1933

Almost immediately upon assuming the Chancellorship of Germany, Hitler began promulgating legal actions against Germany's Jews. In 1933, he proclaimed a one-day boycott against Jewish shops, a law was passed against kosher butchering and Jewish children began experiencing restrictions in public schools. By 1935, the Nuremberg Laws deprived Jews of German citizenship. By 1936, Jews were prohibited from participation in parliamentary elections and signs reading "Jews Not Welcome" appeared in many German cities. (Incidentally, these signs were taken down in the late summer in preparation for the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin).

When pressure built on Romney to release his tax returns, White helped persuade the candidate to take his time, arguing, as another adviser puts it, that “you never release something that’s five hundred pages long or more till you understand it.” And he has helped formulate retorts to attacks on Romney’s wealth.
