Chuck Norris: “1,000 Years of Darkness” if Obama Wins

Is that all?
Wingnuts • Views: 37,467

Action hero Chuck Norris has a flourishing second career as a raving, insane wingnut, and his new video features his wife Gena, warning that if Obama is reelected American children will be condemned to “a thousand years of darkness.”

A video released this weekend by action movie hero Chuck Norris claims that America faces “1,000 years of darkness” if President Barack Obama is reelected.

“If we look to history, our great country and freedom are under attack,” Norris warns, standing next to his wife. “We’re at a tipping point and, quite possibly, our country as we know it may be lost forever if we don’t change the course in which our country is headed.”

The pair go on to explain that Obama won in 2008 because more than 30 million evangelical Christians stayed home on Election Day. “We know you love your family and your freedom as much as Gena and I do, and it is because of that we can no longer sit quietly or stand on the sidelines and watch our country go the way of socialism or something much worse,” Norris explains.

Quoting President Ronald Reagan, Norris’s wife Gina adds that defeating Obama “will preserve for our children this last best hope of man on earth, or we will sentence them to take the first step into 1,000 years of darkness. If we fail, at least let our children and our children’s children say of us we justified our brief moment here. We did all that could be done.”

Jeff Bridges > Chuck Norris. Gus had a nice clip downstairs where Jeff talked about his charity that helps feed poor kids and is nonpartisan in nature. And Jeff endorsed Obama with a smile in contrast to Chuck's acting like a doom and gloom idiot. I'll take The Dude who can actually act over an overrated internet meme.

I think a flash of lightning and a peal of thunder would have been appropriate at that point.

Btw, Chuck is now 72 years old.

Chuck's advanced age is no excuse though. It just occurred to me that I'll be 72 in less time than has passed since I started posting at LGF.

Weird delivery, like a sincere Kentucky farmer at a PTA meeting. IIRC, even Chuck Norris could declaim better than that.

The GOP won't be happy until this country is the Iran of the west.

I'm convinced that Ayatollah Barton and his mob would be out stoning loose women, beheading dissidents, and hanging gays if they didn't know the long arm of the secular law would smash them flat for it.

They are also working hard to turn this into a third world country on the economic front too; destroying unions, refusing to raise the minimum wage (or even calling for its abolition), conflating regulation with tyranny, and generally supporting the ever growing mal-distribution of wealth.

Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did, and it never will. Fredrick Douglass.

Even if you are an arch-capitalist, you have to realize that labor needs to stand on equal footing with capital in bargaining or it will constantly be victimized. We need unions and/or we need strong government regulation on the treatment of workers. The marketplace on its own will never correct for exploitation, since it's a literal benefit to the company to exploit workers. The basis of capitalism is to get more wealth produced by your workers than you pay them.

If you other lizards haven't caught this yet, it is a fictitious but utterly hilarious "interview" with Bill Nye the Science guy at the Smithsonian Channel:

After briefly discussing his show, the Smithsonian anchors asked Nye about Akin's recent accusation. The normally genial Nye wasted no time venting his rage about the comments:

"Look, these people they're fucking retarded. Rape can't cause pregnancy? Breastmilk cures homosexuality? I caused a hurricane by challenging creationism? Who can possibly take these people seriously anymore?"

The slightly uncomfortable anchors then tried to change the subject, but Nye persisted:

"It used to be these Republicans didn't believe in global warming or evolution. That was bad enough. Now they don't even believe in egg + sperm = baby. Where does Todd Akin think babies come from? Does he think there are separate storks for people who were raped and people who weren't? "

"Hey look over there! It's the rape stork. It drops its babies directly at the orphanage."

"He's a fucking idiot. Just a plain fucking idiot. I'm sorry - I don't say that word very often - but it happens to fit in this case. He's just a fucking idiot."

Where can the wingnut refugees go when Obama wins? I recommend Paraguay, where they won't be plagued by over-regulation, Obamacare, or OSHA. They can build their homes and businesses as they see fit, with all the mud bricks and thatch they can make with their own hands. Labor is really, really cheap, too, though you can forget about requiring computer literacy or even the ability to set an alarm clock. The baggers will finally have a need for their beloved 4X4s, too, since the public highways are usually just tracks for ox-carts.

This is the problem. There aren't a lot of places out there where wingnuts would actually want to live. They're all too socialist, or gay-friendly, or else they're very dangerous if not impossible for Americans to live in in a way they would find acceptable. We really are the nearest thing to a religiously and socially conservative free-market paradise that has traffic lights and functioning courts and clean water, and no warlords running the whole show that there is.

Dunno. I spent YEARS listening to moonbats fantasizing about living in Europe, and it never really appealed to me. Looks like this thousand year thing started as either Winston Churchill talking about defeating the Nazi's or is something Regan made up. I believe what she is trying to do is say the evil Muslim Socialist POTUS is also as bad or worse than Nazi's. The is no bottom to the level of depravity and make believe that fills their heads.

Newt’s Thousand Year Dark

In 1964, Ronald Reagan told conservatives that this was a time for choosing. Faced with a radical, progressive President who would weaken America abroad and at home, they could either fight to preserve America as the last, best hope on earth, or consign their children to a thousand years of darkness. …

Of course, what had Ronald Reagan so het up back then was his heartfelt conviction that Medicare would destroy America. Conor Friedersdorf notes at that link that LBJ actually won the 1964 election. So “1000 years of darkness” didn’t ensue– or if it did, the Reagan era was part of it.

I think there's always been a romantic idealism about ex-pats. I always find the whole idea kind of sad. I mean I understand people who become ex-pats like the Jewish and left wing folks who had to flee Nazi Germany because it was either stay and be persecuted and even killed or freedom. Anyhow, I submitted this bit of short, short fiction for Esquire magazine's short short fiction contest. It had to be seventeen nine words exactly so hence the brevity.
He stood on the ship’s rear. His whole life was contained in a bag. To say goodbye to home is never an easy proposition. His cigarette is lit and he lets out a cough. The seagulls squeak and the whales lament. The ship sets out and slowly the only land he’s ever known disappears from his eyes. The only thing ahead of his eyes is a vast ocean of blue. And then the sun goes down for the expat.

He got beat by a girl! Okay, my mock sexism aside. Seems like with Ryan, Palin, and Bush, there's quite a few really good runners in the Republican Party. I remember hearing that Bush was running a 6 minute mile in his early 60's or something like that.

Yeah, I don't get why some "libertarians" hedge their bets with the Republican party but then again I've seen many "libertarians" who are as anti choice and gay as any far right conservative. They throw their lot in with the GOP because it's the only way they're ever gonna get close to elected office. Hence Crazy Uncle Liberty, who only ever once ran as a Libertarian and got his ass handed to him. Every other election, he ran and won as a Republican, though he kept thumbing his nose at them.

That's why I think that if Obama is reelected, there is going to be a huge surge in wingnut secessionism talk, especially in Texas.

Along with the freed slaves, loyal southerners like Thomas and Sam Houston got short shrift in the drive for "national reconciliation" after Reconstruction. This reached its peak in the absurd romanticization of the "Old South" in the first part of the twentieth century, best typified by Gone With the Wind in both book and movie form. This mythology was still a powerful force at the time of the Civil War Centennial in the early 1960s. Juxtaposed with the civil rights movement of the time, it led to much controversy. I'd actually be in favor of Texas trying to do just that-a one time vote. If they do pass, then they get to build their own national Army, Navy, National Bank and a new currency, negotiate treaties, immigration, etc. etc. If they think that they can go it alone-more power to 'em. And since Texas has hundreds of thousands of millionaires, well, shouldn't be too hard for them to do that. Of course, the US would pull out all of our currently stationed military assets (including nuclear warheads) to boot-let the new country of Texas buy their own military assets. If the new country of Texas thinks they can use the US dollar a la the Euro, just look at the disaster the Euro has been recently. Given that the rate of tax dollar return to Texas is actually .92 per dollar, its actually from a financial standpoint Texas's best interest to secede.

True, but not inappropriate. Jackson was good at commanding independent commands and as a corps commander. But the commander of the Army of Northern Virginia has to command two corps, each with their own commander and each of which were too big to always move in close proximity, as well as a cavalry division and the various defensive and logistic units within its operational area. That's a very different task, and its not at all clear how well Jackson would have done it.

Nah I was only 11 and too busy reading Goosebumps mostly. After I saw the movie, I picked up the novel though. Really, as much as I love Shawshank, I like Green Mile more. Both were directed by Frank Darabont who I think is the best at directing King's works. His Mist was also very good.

re: #139 Dark_Falcon

True, but not inappropriate. Jackson was good at commanding independent commands and as a corps commander. But the commander of the Army of Northern Virginia has to command two corps, each with their own commander and each of which were too big to always move in close proximity, as well as a cavalry division and the various defensive and logistic units within its operational area. That's a very different task, and its not at all clear how well Jackson would have done it.

Its not clear to me he could've done worse than Lee; Gettysburg was a disaster from the get go, in part due to vague orders from Lee. Jackson gave precise orders, and arrested generals who didn't follow them.

If I'm rich someday, maybe we'll have a summer place in Ireland, but this is where I live, and the country that, for all its failings, makes the most sense to me in the world. I really can't imagine leaving just because someone I don't like won an election.

Funny thing is that they never take into account whether a different country would allow them to live there.

JFK's Profiles in Courage had a really good piece on Houston and how Houston, a man who if not for him there would be no Texas found himself being ostracized because he saw secession for the danger it was.

Sam Houston, a few weeks after he was removed from office for refusing to take an oath of loyalty to the Confederacy:

Let me tell you what is coming. After the sacrifice of countless millions of treasure and hundreds of thousands of lives, you may win Southern independence if God be not against you, but I doubt it. I tell you that, while I believe with you in the doctrine of states rights, the North is determined to preserve this Union. They are not a fiery, impulsive people as you are, for they live in colder climates. But when they begin to move in a given direction, they move with the steady momentum and perseverance of a mighty avalanche; and what I fear is, they will overwhelm the South.

The problem is that by Gettysburg the Army of Northern Virginia was too large for its commander to give order that were precise. Specific, yes, but corps and division commanders needed a fair bit of leeway in taking action in order to be able to adapt as a battle developed. With 70,000 men and a battlefront that was miles long, an army commander couldn't see enough to know exactly what to do at every point.

157 HappyWarrior  Mon, Sep 3, 2012 3:01:56pm

I wonder what Joyce would say to all the Irish-Americans who romanticize Ireland and talk about going to their ancestral home. It's a funny thing in the Irish diaspora psyche. People are always leaving Ireland for America as many of our ancestors did, or Trieste as Joyce himself did, or as Evelyn hoped to do in Joyce's Evelyn. Yet there's always that desire to go back. I was glad to be able to do so and I have no doubt that my grandmother whose great aunt an Irish immigrant helped raise her and her sisters felt the same when she visited in the 1970's. I'm not sure how other cultures are really because in the German-American community there really isn't that much romanticizing of Germany probably because German-Americans with some exceptions are so far removed from Germany. I saw it a little with my mom's parents with our Eastern European blood but not really. Though my grandfather was always one to boast of Slovenia's peace and prosperity compared to the rest of the former Yugoslavia.

More importantly, Jackson would've never fought at Gettysburg in the first place. He would've found good ground to make a stand and made the Army of the Potomac attack him.

If Meade was willing to do so. As Ralph Peters reminded last year, a look at Gettysburg is incomplete without looking at the qualities of the general who commanded the Army of the Potomac. Meade might well have been able to counter a Jackson plan by moving to wall the Confederates off from their supplies and from Washington DC and avoiding a direct attack.

That's why I said with a free hand, Jackson would've made Pennsylvania howl as Sherman did Georgia. He would've moved north of the Susquehanna River, living off the land and marching toward Philadelphia, cutting rail lines to D.C. Meade would've had to come out and fight him.

Grant was the Union's big hero, in part because he lived long enough to both become president and later to write his memoirs. Meade died within a decade of the end of the war, and so was not as well remembered. Meade also had two further things going against him in terms of being well remembered:

1. He was someone the South wanted to forget about. Southerners just could not (and still to this day often cannot) admit that a Union engineer who called said he knew his men called him "a damned old goggle-eyed Snapping Turtle" had beaten their Marble Model general (the latter refers to a nickname Lee acquired at West Point). Meade was also not popularly connected closely enough with the devastations wrecked on the South in 1864-1965 for the South to hate him. So the South acted like he didn't matter much.

2. George Meade was greatly outlived by an enemy on his own side. This was the commander of III Corps at Gettysburg, MG Dan Sickles. Sickles never liked Meade, thinking him defensive and lacking Joe Hooker's flair, and Sickles used his long connection with the Gettysburg battlefield as well as his political connections in New york to push his own interpretation of the battle. Sickles did not die until May of 1914, the very last prominent Union officer of the battle to pass on.

Speaking of the Battle of Fredericksburg, it's worth noting that Meade's division was the only Union division to actually breech the lines of Gen. Jackson's II Corps. But Burnside was too slow in reacting to the breech, and Jackson responded it very well. thus the advantage Meade won at high price was soon lost.

Custer was a fucking tool, along with most of the other commanders the Army had in the field at least in the beginning. It changed because after Little Bighorn the US Army had been badly defeated by "primitives", and that could not be allowed to stand, no more than the UK could allow the result of Isandlwana to stand three years later. Of course, in both cases the issue of race was added to the issue of national prestige.

It changed because after Little Bighorn the US Army had been badly defeated by "primitives", and that could not be allowed to stand, no more than the UK could allow the result of Isandlwana to stand three years later. Of course, in both cases the issue of race was added to the issue of national prestige.

Also, in the decades after the last stand, Custer's wife and (I think) BIL launched one of the classical industrial-strength myth-building machines.

At Ft Knox the unit next to ours was the descendant of the 7th Cav. They loved to bang around behind The Gary Owen. Always wondered how the several American Indian soldiers in the cantonment felt about it.

Libby Custer made a lot of money from her books and lecture tours as well, reportedly leaving an estate of about $100,000 when she finally died in 1933. She launched this effort almost immediately after George bit the dust, especially after President Grant publicly blamed him for the disaster. Her books are quite good, though they are obvious works of propaganda.

A unit needs its mythos, though, and Custer and Garry Owen were what the 7th Cavalry was given. And they use it without being assholes about it, so some slack can be cut for them.

Based on an alt-hist novel where he's found near death on the battlefield and later is CM'd for the loss of his command. He's shown being shredded on the witness stand.

Grant was right to blame Custer. Though Custer had done sterling work stopping Jeb Stuart on Gettysburg's 3rd day, he screwed up by the numbers at the Little Bighorn.

That's a romantic hangover from the days when a soldier would spend his whole career in a few units. It's harder to maintain when G1 sends you off to a new "best unit in the f'n Army" every 13 months or so.

The "noble last stand" against the oncoming savage hoard is a great white man myth.

The truth wasn't nearly so noble. Half of the Native Americans involved were not even originally a target in the war. The Cheyennes were actually friendly until they were attacked by General Reynolds in a truly colossal fuck up on or about March 16, 1876. He maintained until his death that he attacked Oglala Sioux. He then left a number of wounded cav soldiers behind to be butchered by the outraged Cheyenne who had been burnt out of their shelter and food.

The entire war was basically to force the remaining Indians off of their land...guaranteed by treat only a handful of years earlier...and into the agencies while the Black Hills were stripped of gold and minerals. It was theft, plain and simple.

And I thought they "loved" the gays too but just hated their sin or maybe Hank is actually honest about his homophobia. Really, it's too bad. His Dad was a talented musician and from what I know not a bigoted jackass. Hey Hank you've been calling Obama Hitler for a while now and you still have your free speech rights. Maybe just maybe fuckface the man isn't Hitler. Yo

Frank, that second piece was just a quote from the Hollywood Reporter. How the people rating it at Fox Nation rate it cannot be used as evidence FNC approves of what Williams said. The quote FNC used is not positive towards Williams.

I don't intend this to defend FNC, but rather to say that Frank hasn't made his case.

Palin was pretty unhinged when she made the death panel comment. And her daughter's attack on Obama's parenting skills after Obama commented that he had talked to his daughters about gay marriage was a low blow. Besides, Williams II is pretty low on how low you can go.

I can't recommend a specific model off the top of my head, but if you can check into the components, avoid ANY laptop with a Hitachi hard drive. Those things are GARBAGE. Had not one, but two fail on me (first one was in an old Lenovo laptop, the other was encased in an external hard drive unit)

Lenovos are good. I sell about equal numbers of Lenovos and Toshibas (now). I prefer the Fujitsu though, just as a personal preference. About 50% of the HPs I've sold and an even higher percentage of Dells have had to be RMAed.

The samples are a bit skewed though, I've only sold about 5 Dells and 30 HPs, so it may just be bad luck.

HP used to be a good brand, one of the top actually. It's just since they bought Compaq that they've nose dived. I used to sell a lot of their printers too. Now I think twice about it and tend to favour Lexmark.

It's getting really hard to differentiate between brands, because they're all made in China. The main thing is the warrantee and how difficult it is to get the unit serviced.

Because I sell the things, I touch quite a few more than most people so I have to be concerned with how well they stand up in my own experience. My preferences may be completely out to lunch statistically but I have to go with image and pocket book effects.

It doesn't have much to do with the hardware, but one of the things I hate about HP is the unbelievable quantity of useless bloatware they preinstall. Docks and dashboards and wifi connection "assistants" and other worthless stuff that fits the textbook definition of "feature-itis". They go so far out of their way to include software that does a worse job of handling every-day tasks that Windows has built-in. Normally, this is the kind of stuff that gets uninstalled immediately when someone buys a new laptop, but HP seem to be the worst offenders in terms of quantity of completely unnecessary, resource-hogging bundled garbage.

How about if we have four more years of Obama and then a four or eight year reign of someone from God's Own Party? What then? //

Right on. I've set up an HP or two for family members, and quickly learned to immediately format them as soon as they're unboxed. Install a vanilla version of Win7, and the machines perform so much better than they do when they're groaning under the weight of a metric sh*t-ton of bloatware.

re: #292 Charles Johnson

For someone so strongly opposed to creationism, it's puzzling to me why he accepts the lies about climate science coming from the same groups and individuals.

I don't oppose the science. It's the political solutions that don't thrill me. Think of it as a libertarian position. It's still evolving, so to speak.
