2 darthstar  Tue, Sep 4, 2012 12:48:40pm

Here's the thing...Biden actually could hitchhike to the DNC, and he'd have fun doing it...as would those lucky enough to offer him rides along the way. Though he'd be limited to mini-vans and SUVs as his secret service detail would also need to fit in the car.

You know something is happening when an 80 year old deacon, who happens to be black, tells all the other old people in the church to stop worrying about gay people getting married. He said to quit trying to second guess God.
Then he gave props to Joe Biden for telling the truth.

(I still ain't going to church though...)

Nah, man, it's just that to really appreciate a sweet ride like that you've got to spend some time away, some time casting yourself in the ocean of strangers and seeing whether life gives you cream soda or piss in the face.

You've got to stick your toes in the weather of the world, my friend. Ol' Joe knows that. That's why in addition to his hitching, every year he makes sure to do at least one naked peyote ceremony in the middle of the Sonoran desert. Son of a bitch has great luck too-- past three years, he's timed it exactly for a desert bloom.

Yikes. Just spent almost an hour dealing with one nasty-ass paper jam in my Epson printer. For some dumb reason I thought I'd experiment and load the cassette with 6 sheets of business cards. Six sheets of biz cards stuck in the rollers, with just a little bit poking out on either side. And they're designed to tear apart.

Now I know why they say "one sheet at a time."

There are so many of these fake stories coming out of the right it's getting impossible to keep up. I was gobsmacked to see Jake Tapper running a ridiculous fake outrage from Gateway Pundit last week. Right up there with black helicopters and the UN back in the day. Funny how people expect SEAL/sniper/HRT skills from every cop or agent with a gun and see a conspiracy when they need just enough to qualify to stay armed. Those cops at the empire state building for example. They would all have to shoot 500 rounds a week in combat scenarios (not just stand at the counter and hit unmoving paper targets) to avoid hitting bystanders in that incident.

The ESB situation is the perfect example of how trained law enforcement can hit bystanders in a high pressure situation despite all the training they have.

And because training is so important, the NYPD is moving to a new and expanded training facility some time next year because the old facility is outdated and insufficient for the needs of the force. All that training requires expending lots of ammo.

Fox made a dishonest comparison between checking ID for security purposes at the Democratic Convention to push for laws that disenfranchise people by requiring them to show photo ID before casting a vote.

Fox & Friends co-host Gretchen Carlson said that Democrats are guilty of a "double standard" because they support the repeal of states voter ID laws while at the same time, they require members of the press attending the Democratic National Convention to show identification three times.

It's officially a dead-cat bounce. 1 pt bounce for Mitt in the CNN poll. The RCP average still treats the race as essentially a dead heat (Obama leads), with 0.1% separating Obama from Mitt in poll averages.

Nate Smith sees this either as a par or bogey - but definitely below historical averages for a post-convention bounce. 3 points is what he's seen across 7-8 polls in swing states plus a couple of national polls.

One thing I learned at my former job was how to use Fed Biz Ops. That site will let you find every non-military ammo purchase the US government makes, and most of the military purchases, too. You can examine the solicitations for bids and see what the agency doing the buying says it wants the ammo for. I used that site for leads research for more than two years, and not one ammo purchase was anything other than kosher.

Past presidential nominees have seen their support among registered voters increase five points on average after their party's nominating convention, according to Gallup's review of the history of convention bounces going back to 1964.

Romney becomes one of three recent nominees -- and the first Republican -- who did not receive a convention bounce, joining George McGovern in 1972 and John Kerry in 2004. Both McGovern and Kerry, like Romney, challenged incumbent presidents, with McGovern suffering a landslide defeat to Richard Nixon and Kerry losing a close election to George W. Bush.

If you are planning on getting rid of the CDs altogether, make sure you have good backups of your iTunes library and make sure the files are encoded at 320 kbps (or better) or using Apple lossless compression so that you have a "pristine" master*. Set your iPod/iPhone/iPad/iWhatever to convert files down to 128-256kbps while syncing to save room on the device.

*If at some point in the future a new format or compression type is released, converting from MP3 or lossy AAC to that will result in compounding compression losses. Too much of that and the file will sound like crap.

I never understood why a society that reacted to strangers arriving by cooking and eating them in veneration of their gods was considered to be on the 'good' side.

Because they're the "peaceful natives" who are threaten by literal Imperialism.

Because George Lucas constantly 'Forrest Gumps' himself into insulting or racist stereotypes while designing aliens.

Because they were cute and furry and were easily led by the Good guys when the guy who wanted to boink his sister tricked them into believing a droid had magic powers.

Good to know. I'll make sure everything is backed up properly. Thanks!

They still got people to believe they were a "Galactic Empire" when they couldn't even last 30 years and only controlled a small region of their native galaxy.

Pff, amateurs.

I'd give Biden a ride, for sure. It would be entertaining, for at least a little while. I could always strap him to the roof when I got tired of him. //

I've never thought he was unlikeable - just verbose - and a tad geeky. Like the neighbor you really like, but "whoops, sorry, I need to be somewhere" when they get to talking.

He's always reminded me of my uncle. Part of that was said uncle saying Joe was the first candidate for president he gave money to but they're the same age and are equally goofy.
