Mitt Romney and the Orgy-Hosting Equity Trader Tycoon

Starting to get weird now
Politics • Views: 36,780

David Corn of Mother Jones revealed tonight on the Rachel Maddow show that the already-infamous Mitt Romney “47%” video was recorded at a fund-raising event at the Hamptons home of equity trader Marc Leder.

Leder has been in the news before, and Mitt Romney’s religious right sponsors may not be pleased to find out about the other kinds of activities that take place at Leder’s mansion: Marc Leder Ends His Weekly Bashes in the Hamptons With Naked Guests Cavorting in the Pool and Peforming Public Sex Acts.

It was as if the Playboy Mansion met the East End at a wild party at private-equity titan Marc Leder’s Bridgehampton estate, where guests cavorted nude in the pool and performed sex acts, scantily dressed Russians danced on platforms and men twirled lit torches to a booming techno beat.

The divorced Sun Capital Partners honcho rented a sprawling beachfront mansion on Surf Side Road for $500,000 for the month of July. Leder’s weekly Friday and Saturday night parties have become the talk of the Hamptons — and he ended them in style last weekend with his wildest bash yet.

Oh yeah. This campaign is getting deep now.

This should be interesting considering the right seriously believes in guilt by association.

Half of their arguments use it as evidence.

Neil Gaiman has posted a letter from one of the actresses, that he personally knows, who was involved in "Innocence of the Muslims". Nakoula Basseley Nakoula seems to have recklessly misled the cast, stripping them of the opportunity to offer informed consent. IANAL, but it seems to me doing so must be illegal:

[Link: journal.neilgaiman.com...]

...

My character Hilary was a young girl who is sold (against her own free will) by her parents to a tribe leader known as GEORGE. She is one of his (most likely, the youngest) brides in the movie.

The film was about a comet falling into a desert and different tribes in ancient Egypt fighting to acquire it for they deemed that the comet possessed some supernatural powers.

The movie that we were doing in Duarte was called “Desert Warrior” and it was a fictional adventure drama. The character GEORGE was a leader of one of those tribes fighting for the comet.

There was no mention EVER by anyone of MUHAMMAD and no mention of religion during the entire time I was on the set. I am hundred percent certain nobody in the cast and nobody in the US artistic side of the crew knew what was really planned for this “Desert Warrior”.

The atmosphere at the set was as friendly as possible. We all knew that we were doing an adventure drama for a very low budget financing. The director Alan Roberts even had plans that with this low budget product he would be able to get some more money to make a good quality version (by shooting it in the real desert and having better product in every category) of the “Desert Warrior”.

I had interactions with the man known as Sam Bassil on the set. He was very amiable, respectful, soft-spoken, always making sure that the filming was running smoothly and everyone was satisfied. He even told me the premiere of the movie was going to happen sometime soon and I would get a good amount of tickets to invite my friends and family.

...

It's worth noting Nakoula appears to have been using an alias while deceiving the cast, another parole violation?

From the 2012 Republican Platform:

In the Preamble:

[...] The principles written in the Constitution are secured by the character of the American people. President George Washington said in his first inaugural address: “The propitious smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right which Heaven itself has ordained.” Values matter. Character counts.

Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan understand these great truths. [...]

In a Romney Believer, Private Equity’s Risks and Rewards

It was through private equity that one Republican candidate, Mitt Romney, amassed his wealth — and, it turns out, it was through private equity that Mr. Romney first met Mr. Leder. A couple of months after the blowout in Bridgehampton, Mr. Leder was host for a fund-raiser at his Boca Raton home for Mr. Romney’s campaign. But the connection goes back even further. Years ago, a visit to Mr. Romney’s investment firm inspired Mr. Leder to get into private equity in the first place. Mr. Romney was an early investor in some of the deals done by Mr. Leder’s investment company, Sun Capital, which today oversees about $8 billion in equity.

re: #65 Charles Johnson

The connection with the "47%" video comments runs deep. Namely, self-infatuated hedonists who don't really have an interest in the lives of most people of this country, only in how much money they can make to buy/rent bigger party grounds, are the funders behind candidate Romney.

The religious right in this country are amazingly, stubbornly, dense about all of this. When the deep pocket backers of their candidates are casino owners, when the media mogul who sells them mindless TV is also the biggest publisher of naked women in the UK, they (the RR) still cling on to them as the "moral" leaders.

It is totally absurd.

Which supports my notion that the creationist really are mentally ill.

Right, remember though -- this is just another fake outrage. That Romney may have to hold a special press conference to address.

Well, I think it should be fake outrage, because I don't think anyone should care about what goes on in someone else's adult (consensual, etc.) life.

But I also hate hypocrisy something fierce.

Romney: Remarks In Secret Footage Were ‘Off The Cuff’

And that makes them acceptable?

Eat a bag of dicks, Mitt. How do you like that off the cuff?

Kudos to the Broncos. Down 20-0, they went for the TD at the end of the half instead of just settling for the FG.

Play to win. None of that half-assed respectable-loss bullshit.

I don't think I've ever seen Romney look so flustered. It's like a bomb went off in his head.

And what's funny, all of ROmney's misteps are of his own making... Obama doesn't have to do anything, Mitt does it all to himself

It would've been much, much, more interesting.

The replacement refs suck.

Only if they can avoid the resulting progeny. Raising a kid is way way way more expensive. Probably the main reason that the right is so dead set against birth control. Those people aren't paying for having a good time.

Would it be in bad taste to send the Romney campaign a fruit basket to thank them for making such a mockery of their own party?

Bill got shotgunned by Willie.

What makes Mitt think that the 47% are Democrats. He doesn't know much about rural America where a lot of white people are on public assistance and fully on board with the far right as well.

It's no wonder why Romney thought he could get away with this. We've seen it demonstrated here, conservatives fundamentally misunderstanding the basic structure of the tax system they've paid into their entire adult lives. Many of the Republicans who spread the 47% bullshit don't realize that they're in it. They don't understand that the number includes everyone who's end of year tax burden gets wiped out due to things like the per child tax credit, mortgage interest credit, or capital losses. They believe unbelievable lies such as that entering a new tax bracket means taking home less money.

Basically modern conservatives fall into two broad categories, the fundamentally stupid and those elite 1%ers who's sole voting concern is their own financial self interest.

Obama's campaign also saves money during times like this, because their best strategy is to get out of the way and let Romney keep digging.
