I just realized the positive side of the 47% comment.

Since 47% of the American public are freeloaders that don't pay taxes and would never vote for Romney, that means that Obama only needs to get 8% of the taxpayers (or another 4% of the entire citizenry) to vote for him and he wins the popular vote.

No way that doesn't happen - so by Romney's own logic he is done.

In point of fact, a sizable chunk of the 47% do vote Republican. Obviously, Romney's claim is absurd. If what he said were true, he would be getting something like, maybe, 30%? of the popular vote (the 47% who "don't pay taxes" plus some 50% of the other 53%?).

Perhaps some small % of the 47% that typically vote Republican will hear about his disgustingly elitist comments and switch over. There is absolutely no way that if these comments are widely disseminated, it can do anything but hurt his chances.

Again, Romney is disparaging his own supporters, seniors and people who take advantage of the per child tax credit, mortgage interest payment credit, people predominately living off of investment income and who take deductions for capital losses.

What's really fucked up though is that here's a guy who's running to be able to submit and sign off on changes to the tax code who refuses to release his own tax returns. He's calling almost half the country victims because they're taking advantage of the same elements in the tax code he's taken advantage of, to offset their tax obligations entirely.

I pay all the taxes that are legally required and not a dollar more. I don’t think you want someone as the candidate for president who pays more taxes than he owes.

How hypocritical is this? He's saying nearly half the tax filers in the country view themselves as "victims" because they have the same operative strategy towards paying taxes that he does.

Honestly I would love to see Mitt or one of his wealthy fundraisers spend one day in the life of the less well off in this country. It's really easy to pass judgment on other people when you're like Mitt and haven't had to live with any real hardship in your life. It's fine that Mitt grew up wealthy. Hell some people grow up that wealthy and develop with it a genuine compassion and empathy for those not as well off them. Mitt meanwhile seems to disdain those less well off than him.

Honestly I would love to see Mitt or one of his wealthy fundraisers spend one day in the life of the less well off in this country. It's really easy to pass judgment on other people when you're like Mitt and haven't had to live with any real hardship in your life. It's fine that Mitt grew up wealthy. Hell some people grow up that wealthy and develop with it a genuine compassion and empathy for those not as well off them. Mitt meanwhile seems to disdain those less well off than him.

After crying for two weeks straight, they would think about giving away their worldly possessions to become monks.
That would wear off quickly, so they would cash in some stocks and spend a month at an exclusive spa to deep-clean the working-class cooties from their pores.
Not all, but many.

He was the congressman for the 5th district, due to redistricting he's running for the 4th district, while our previous congressman Tom Latham (R) is running for the 3rd district against the current congressman Leonard Boswell (D). Romney’s comments also reveal that he has lost any sense of the social compact. In 1987, during Ronald Reagan’s second term, 62 percent of Republicans believed that the government has a responsibility to help those who can’t help themselves. Now, according to the Pew Research Center, only 40 percent of Republicans believe that.
That to me shows the irony of Mitt, a man who once tried to position himself to the left of Reagan and H.W Bush and now whom has positioned himself to the right. This isn't big government versus limited government. This is a man still trying to convince an increasingly right wing base that government can't do anything right which is hilarious given that he had no problem using that same government to get funding for the Olympics, the same ones he likes to brag about.

In a congressional hearing Thursday, Continental Resources CEO and Mitt Romney’s chief energy adviser Harold Hamm asked to preserve the oil industry’s billions in tax breaks, although his company pays little in federal taxes. The oil firm has earned more than $1.8 billion profit over five years by dominating the oil shale boom in North Dakota.

In his prepared testimony, Hamm defends tax breaks by pointing to his own company, saying, “Continental’s effective tax rate is 38%!” But according to Citizens for Tax Justice, Continental paid an average 2.2 percent tax rate, or $40 million, over five years.

Our erev Rosh Hashanah sermon, while 100% non-partisan, was about what was so evil about the people of Sodom. And it wasn't homosexuality.

There's a fascinating passage in the Talmud (Sanhedrin 109a) which describes the mentality of the Sodomites. (In fact we see parallels to it in some of the strict immigration laws of more recent times.) What brought the Sodomites to such repugnant evil? The answer in a word was that they saw the lushness of their own land and desired it for themselves. And so, they banned all travelers and visitors. (Today, after its destruction (Genesis 19), it is the area of the Dead Sea, one of the most barren and uninhabitable places in the world.) Why share our richness with anyone else? As soon as you "make it," the shnorers (more respectfully: "fund-raisers") line up at your door. Who needs it? Not of course that they intended anyone else *harm* to be sure. They just wanted the comfortable life for themselves. "No Solicitors" figured prominently at the gates of their city (a rather common sight nowadays -- although most of the time the newly-arrived Israeli "solicitor" has no idea what the word means...). We wish you all the best, but keep your suffering and misery to yourselves!

Step two, continues the Talmud, the Sodomites enacted all sorts of cruel as well as absurd laws banning hospitality and charity, and doing away with all semblance of fair play. No one had any form of obligation towards others or was required to pay for any infraction. The Talmud lists such laws as that if one would hit his fellow, his fellow would owe *him* medical expenses for the service of blood-letting. Other choice rulings were that if A would cut off the ear of B's donkey, A would keep the donkey till it grew back, or if A would injure B's wife causing her to miscarry, A would take her till she again became pregnant.

The people of Sodom likewise decreed punishments for acts of charity. The Talmud records that when a young girl gave some bread to a poor person, they punished her by smearing her flesh with honey and tying her up on a roof, leaving her to die a horrific death at the hands of the bees. (The Sages state that it was this final breach of humanity which sealed the fate of these G-dless and despicable people.)

And the lesson for us is that there is simply no such thing as a person who focuses wholly on himself yet is still an "average" individual. If we accept that all humans are created in G-d's image, we will naturally feel obligated to help them and will share in their suffering. We might even see our wealth and talents as a responsibility: as gifts from G-d to be used in the manner He wishes. Once humans are in G-d's image, they are all equal, significant, and deserving of our love and respect.

According to the Bible that Mitt Romney professes to believe in, he's a Sodomite.

I always hated DINO too. I mean I'm not going to be "liberal" on every subject. Personally I try to subscribe myself to the non political definition of liberal where I try to have an open mind and be open to new ideas.
