Obama in 1998: ‘I Actually Believe in Redistribution’ (Of Government Resources)

Yes, another fake outrage to distract from Romney’s hot mess
Politics • Views: 31,888

Someone named “nick cruz” joined YouTube today, apparently just to upload this video that immediately jumped to Drudge Report, and then was cited by Mitt Romney when he appeared on Fox News today.

Just sayin’. The timing seems … a little suspicious.

Anyway, here’s the recording from 1998 the right wingers are all yelling about in unison to try to distract from Mitt Romney’s disastrous “47%” comments; note that Barack Obama is discussing the need to pool and redistribute government resources. Not wealth.

If you’re looking for more evidence that Barack Obama is a secret commie socialist Marxist, you’ll have to look elsewhere.

This is like when Fox brought up Monica after Clinton's speech. If you're digging back to 1998, then you're desperate.

Remember Charles that these are people who swear that, when Obama was quoted as saying "You didn't build that," he was saying that government was responsible for people's success, despite the full context being that success in this country relies in large part on a group effort.

Get out your wingnut decoder rings. Remember whatever Obama has ever said must be seen in the most negative light possible, even if it says something completely different.

True but we're still dealing with a fourteen year old comment. The only people this will really resonate with are Romney supporters.

What good has ever come from pooling resources and redistributing them? It's not like the US has had any success in fields like vaccination, flood control, firefighting, rural electrification, a state university system, or national parks.

This sorry crap is the best campaign hundreds of millions of wingnut dollars can buy. Maybe this means Romney can start railing against obvious gross inflation.

It's delusion at its saddest really. Where Mitt Romney actually dissing half of the electorate a couple days ago means nothing and is actually helpful for him but a clip of Obama talking about redistribution in 1998 is how Mitt's going to win this election. Poor Nolte.

Nah, the general tone from the wingnuts is "Damnit, the press need focus less on how much of an ass Romney makes himself look and more on the 'facts' behind what he's saying! If they did that, Obama would be toast!"

"Ok, what is it? Are we not supposed to be talking about the video, or are we supposed to be praising Romney for it? Is it a shady, underhanded release by the Democrats because they know it will hurt Romney and "distract" from the "real issues," or is it something that Romney should always be talking about anyway because everyone really agrees with him? Are we supposed to ignore what candidates say at private events (like Romney), or are we supposed to jump all over them for anything they say (like Obama)?"

Of course, going back to my hatred of twitter, I wouldn't be able to ask them that, because it's more than 140 characters/

Rick Scarborough Says Religious Right Prayer Rally Ended Crippling Drought

During his conference call with Texas Gov. Rick Perry, Vision America’s Rick Scarborough hailed Perry’s The Response prayer rally, which occurred in August of last year, for supposedly ending the state’s extreme drought that began in October, 2010. However, according to StateImpact Texas, "in 2011, Texas endured the worst single-year drought in its history" and while “the situation has improved recently, the drought is far from over — and the conditions that caused it aren’t going away anytime soon.” Scarborough, who made the claim before while speaking to pseudo-historian David Barton, credited The Response with leading to “record rainfalls” months later and a speedy recovery.

NBC/WSJ Poll: Optimism in Obama Presidency Increases - First Read

The percentage of voters believing that the country is better off since Barack Obama became president jumped seven points after the two political conventions, according to a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.

Thirty-eight percent of registered voters now say the nation is better off, which is up from 31 percent in the August NBC/WSJ poll conducted before the conventions.

House GOP Wants Americans’ Premiums to Help Fund Insurance Company Profits Instead Of Health Care

Republicans on the House Energy and Commerce Committee will consider legislation repealing a crucial Obamacare consumer protection that requires insurers to spend at least 80 percent of their premium dollars on actual care rather than overhead or profits. The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities explains that the bill, H.R. 1206, amounts to a massive premium hike for more than 13 million Americans:

Mitt Romney’s Hedge Fund host Marc Leder part of investigation in Tax Abuse probe

Eric Schneiderman Attorney General of New York is looking into a tax strategy which includes re-investing the management fees into the hedge fund and avoiding being taxed as regular income. This is a common strategy in the industry, and according to an article by the New York Times.

SEC filings show that K.K.R which is also part of the tax investigation converted over $180 million in fees between 2007 and 2009. Bain Capital’s leaked financial statements show that $1 billion in fees were converted to investments, according to NYT, this means a saving of $200 million in federal income tax and $20 million in Medicare taxes.

The political implications of this investigation have not been missed. At the State of the Union address, President Obama announced his Mortgage Crisis unit, and shortly thereafter tapped Eric Schneiderman to chair it. In a sharp criticism of this move a New York Post editorial in January stated that “demonizing financial institutions in populist fashion might help rile up the left — which, no doubt, is what Obama and Schneiderman care about most.

Mitt Romney To Obama: No, You Have A Hidden Video Problem

Mitt Romney told FOX News Tuesday he stands by comments he made to donors that 47 percent of Americans are too hopelessly dependent on government to vote Republican. In a new effort to take the heat off his much maligned remarks, Romney repeatedly cited a 1998 video promoted by the RNC on Tuesday in which President Obama used the word “redistribution.”

Romney frequently responds to attacks with an “I’m rubber, you’re glue” strategy in which he accuses his opponent of doing the exact same thing for which he is being criticized. In this case, apparently, the offense is being taped.

“The president’s view is one of a larger government,’” Romney said. “There is a tape that came out where the president is saying he likes redistribution. I disagree.”
