Uh… About That #Obama Flag?

Campaign flags through the years
Wingnuts • Views: 93,097

The latest nontroversy being circulated in the wingnut-o-sphere today is the release of a new logo by the Obama campaign designed around the America flag. I decided to collect some campaign flags used in the past by various political campaigns and by political groups.

Finally, I bring you a comparison of two logos designed around the map of the United States as pointed out to me by Big Joe.

Obama Logo

Fox News Logo

Nothing to see here so move along please.

This is great, Gus, thanks. Gonna have to promote it - already getting lots of hits from Twitter.

I'll leave it here a little while in case you want to edit something.

They hate the logo, cause it undermines their "Obama isn't American" theme.

Obama is always so calm, consistent, and on message. It drives wingnuts crazy.

The recording from 1998 showed how Obama has been singing the same song since forever.

From the article:

On the October 15 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, Bob Grant said: "[W]hat is that flag that Obama's been standing in front of that looks like an American flag, but instead of having the field of 50 stars representing the 50 states, there's a circle?" He then said: "Is the circle the 'O' for Obama? Is that what it is?" Grant later said: "[D]id you notice Obama is not content with just having several American flags, plain old American flags with the 50 states represented by 50 stars? He has the 'O' flag. And that's what that 'O' is. That's what that 'O' is."

Rick Perry Blames Separation Of Church And State On Satan

In a conference call with fellow evangelicals earlier this week, Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) shared his thoughts on the origins of the constitutionally mandated separation of church and state. Rather than tracing the idea to the nation’s founders, Perry warned of a more nefarious source: Satan.

“Satan runs across the world with his doubt and with his untruths and what have you and one of the untruths out there that is driven is that people of faith should not be involved in the public arena,” Perry said during the call on Tuesday, organized by the Rev. Rick Scarborough.

Perry said the separation of religious and civic institutions in the U.S. began with a “narrative” that first took root in the 1960s.

“Somehow or another there’s this, ya know, steel wall, this iron curtain or whatever you want to call it between the church and people of faith and this separation of church and state is just false on its face,” the governor said. “We have a biblical responsibility to be involved in the public arena proclaiming God’s truth.”

I have a common sense responsibility to toss morons talking about Satan out of the public arena.

Has anyone ever seen them in the same room together?

Wearing a bright American flag shirt, turquoise bolo tie and cowboy hat, he is welcomed onto the grounds by rodeo organizers, where he woos the crowd by telling them, in a heavy faux-Russian accent, that in his country, "We support your war of terror." The audience cheers. He follows with, "May Supreme Warlord George W. Bush drink the blood of every single man, woman, and child of Iraq!" Again, the cheers. So he pushes a bit more. "May you destroy their country so that for the next thousand years, not even a single lizard will survive in their desert!"

I think the opposite nature of the two Candidates past income levels is rather hilarious. Obama's income pre candidacy was more line with a successful small business person. As far as I know, neither he or Michelle had more than $1M in assests --the house in Hyde Park etc.

Romney had enough to feel the need to put it in off-shore accounts.

Obama may have qualified for the 1%, but That means the Romneys were in the .005 Percent.

Pro-tip: When moving large amounts of money from one currency to another don't go through a bank or even a brokerage house. The exchange rate listed in the papers is not what you'll get. Even 2-3% makes a huge difference when large amounts are involved. Find a friend (preferably an art dealer, stamp peddler, etc) who does business in the states. Lots of people love dollars. for a $25 wire transfer fee you can make a private agreement, cut out the banks and their profits and both of you save a lot of money.

Ann Romney says fellow Republicans who’ve criticized her husband need to “stop it” and realize “how lucky” the party is to have Mitt Romney as its nominee.

“Stop it. This is hard. You want to try it? Get in the ring,” she said. “This is hard and, you know, it’s an important thing that we’re doing right now and it’s an important election and it is time for all Americans to realize how significant this election is and how lucky we are to have someone with Mitt’s qualifications and experience and know-how to be able to have the opportunity to run this country.”

re: #174 Iwouldprefernotto

Yes they did, I'm referring to the color red.

Well, it's a strong color. I've got 6 different national flags in my pencil cup and they are all combinations of red, white and blue.

178 Gus  Thu, Sep 20, 2012 6:42:26pm
Continental Congress adopts the following: Resolved: that the flag of the United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation.
179 Gus  Thu, Sep 20, 2012 6:44:48pm
What do the red, white, and blue of the flag represent?

The Continental Congress left no record to show why it chose the colors. However, in 1782, the Congress of the Confederation chose these same colors for the Great Seal of the United States and listed their meaning as follows: white to mean purity and innocence, red for valor and hardiness, and blue for vigilance, perseverance, and justice. According to legend, George Washington interpreted the elements of the flag this way: the stars were taken from the sky, the red from the British colors, and the white stripes signified the secession from the home country. However, there is no official designation or meaning for the colors of the flag.

Noblewoman: What a splendid party! I do believe everyone of any importance in England is here tonight.

Nobleman: Who would miss a party given by Lord Salisbury?

Butler: [ waiting at the door for guests to arrive ] Lord and Lady Wilkinson!

Lord Worcestershire: A marvelous entertainment, Salisbury! These chopped steaks are terrific, especially with this delicious mushroom sauce.

Lord Salisbury: Thank you, Coming from you, Worcestershire, that certainly is a compliment. [ turns to his guests ] Lord and Lady Wilkinson, welcome!

Lord Worcestershire: Tell me, Wilkinson, what the deuce is the purpose of two swords?

Lord Wilkinson: It's simple, really. Let's say you're an an attacker. My first blade straightens you upright, while the second clips you neatly at the ankles.

Lady Wilkinson: And there's Lady Wilkinson, for attacking your opponent's underarms and legs!

Butler: The Earl of Sandwich!

Nobleman: Tell me, have you seen Lord Cardigan?

Noblewoman: I understand he was turned away at the door..

Nobleman: Lord Cardigan? Why in heaven's name?

Noblewoman: He wasn't properly attired. Evidently, he came in a sweater.

Nobleman: Odd. I saw Lord Ascot, and he got in..

Butler: The Duke and Duchess of Argyll!

Lord Worcestershire: You know, Sandwich.. were the Sandwich Islands named after you?

Earl of Sandwich: Oh, no. Everyone asks me that, but I'm afraid nothing has ever been named after a member of my family.

Servant: Excuse me, your Lordship, but would you care for one of Lord Salisbury's steaks?

Earl of Sandwich: Yes, I would. Would you bring it to me with a couple slices of pumpernickel, please?

Servant: Yes. [ steps away ]

Butler: Lord and Lady Doucebag!

Lord Salisbury: Well, well, well.. I was just asking Lord Sandwich, "Where the devil are those Douchebags?"

Lady Doucebag: Well, it has been impossible to get him out of his workshop! He has been working day and night.

Lord Salisbury: You, Douchebag? Well, I wasn't aware you dabbled in that sort of thing. What in heaven's name are you working on?

Lord Doucebag: Well, I would be happy to tell you.. but perhaps after you have finished eating.

Lord Salisbury: Well, here is Chambers right now. Would you like something to eat?

Lord Doucebag: We're not too hungry right now - just a plate of raw vegetables.

Lord Salisbury: Would you like some dresing with that?

Lady Doucebag: Just some vinegar and water, thank you.

Earl of Sandwich: Douchebag, how are you? I haven't seen you in the House of Lords in ages! Don't tell me for the first time in memory we are going to have a House of Parliament without a Douchebag?

Lord Doucebag: My dear Sandwich, Parliament has always had its share of Douchebags, and it always will.

Lord Salisbury: Spoken like a true Douchebag. I have often heard the King speak of your family.. [ to Earl of Sandwich ] ..and of yours, as well: "Give me a Sandwich and a Douchebag, and there is nothing I cannot do."

Earl of Sandwich: Hear, hear!

Lord Salisbury: So, tell me, Douchebag.. when are you going to show us that invention of yours?

Earl of Sandwich: Yes, Douchebag, just what kind of an invention are you sitting on?

Lord Doucebag: Well, it's a long story. Why don't we go out to the garden, and I'll explain it to you.

Earl of Sandwich: Tell me - did Lady Douchebag help you in the project?

Lord Doucebag: Help? Why.. she was the inspiration!

[ they exit to the garden to discuss the wondrous invention ]

Butler: Lord Compost Heap and Lady Disinfectant Cake!

It's the desperation setting in, they know the debates are his last chance to mount any sort of comeback and he's a poor debater at best. The only reason he "won" any debates in the primaries is because he relied upon the other candidates to fight more with each other than with him.

I went to a local theater with comfy seating where you can order pizzas and salads to eat while the movie plays.

The guy who took my husband and I out, however, was distressed by the anti-Semitic craziness in the opening scenes in Kazakhstan. After the election when Obama wins, Republicans might want to seriously reconsider their disbelief in evolution. In this sense I mean how societies evolve and how they truly are the party of a throwback, stale philosophy. Romney's 47% comments really offended me as my paternal grandparents worked their entire lives (my grandfather served in WWII), saved a little and lived on SS in their retirement. Mr. Romney, I can not tell you how happy I am that you will not be elected POTUS. You're a heartless man with no principles; a true charlatan and quite honestly, an asshole. Lord, now things are getting deep. One wingnut just dug up the announcement from the University of Colorado stating that their economic model shows Romney winning 310-218 in the electoral college. I had to break it to him that the model is A) five months out of date, B) was announced a month ago, and C) doesn't factor Gary Johnson into its equation. I looked it up further and found that their announcement also included speculation that, when Johnson was factored in, it would actually hurt Obama's chances in New Mexico.

What? It was bipartisan and paid for (at least that's what I read)

But bottom line, IT'S REALLY BAD PRESS, which is all that matters anyway. Clueless.

It was my view that it would lead to duplication of federal agency functions. As it turns out, it would do that to the extent I feared, but it would still have been a problem.

To be very clear, I don't oppose the bill, but I feel that to do what it is supposed to do it needs to be part of a broader reorg of the Department of Veteran's Affairs. Otherwise, I fear it will waste its effect in confusion and miscommunication.

288 Gus  Thu, Sep 20, 2012 8:26:44pm

So according to some, it's OK to burn the Koran and make films like "Innocence of Muslims," cartoons, etc. That OK. It's freedom of speech. Yet draw a playful interpretation of the American flag and all we hear is a litany of interpretations such that is the blood of Libya or that the artists should be charged with flag desecration. That the 5 stripes represent the 5 pillars of Islam and Obama's a Muslim. Many are enraged beyond words...

Got it.

And the vets lose.

They will lose if a large program is put through without planning how the reorganized part of the Department of Veteran's Affairs (DoVA) will work with other parts of DoVA or how it will interface with other federal agencies or even state agencies that have veteran's employment programs.

Stanley, I have worked on conferences dealing with military health and I've learned how problematic things get if it is not thoroughly worked out at the outset how agencies are going to work together. Sometimes the confusion ends up making the new program a net minus, instead of a plus.

re: #292 engineer cat

as Jon Stewart asked last night: "are there any rules at all on Bullshit Mountain??"

Rule 1: There are no rules.
Rule 2: Pam Geller is still a wretched excuse for a human being:

New ads scheduled to appear in the New York City subway system call for support of Israel in its war against "the savage," a reference to militant Muslims.

The ads, put out by a group called the American Freedom Defense Initiative, are aimed at criticizing violent attacks perpetrated by radical Islamists, according to Pamela Gellar, the founder and director of the group.

The ads read: "In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man. Support Israel. Defeat Jihad."

SNIP

The ads were initially rejected by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which runs New York's subway and train systems. MTA spokesman Aaron Donovan said that the ad failed to meet its standards, which prohibit demeaning language of any group. But those standards were ruled unconstitutional by a federal judge this summer, he said.

"Our hands are tied. The court found the MTA's regulations on non-commercial ads violated the First Amendment," Donovan said.

"The judge recognized our intention, but found our attempt to be constitutionally deficient," he added.

The sea ice extent fell to 3.41 million square kilometers, breaking the previous all-time low set in 2007 by 18%--despite the fact that this year's weather was cloudier and cooler than in 2007. Nearly half (49%) of the icecap was gone during this year's minimum, compared to the average minimum for the years 1979 - 2000. This is an area approximately 43% of the size of the Contiguous United States.

And Paris Hilton just got caught on tape putting out a homophobic rant worthy of Bryan Fischer:

The heiress was in Manhattan for New York Fashion Week and in the early morning hours of Friday, September 7, Paris' remarks were caught on tape by a cab driver, when her pal, who is an openly gay male model, is heard in the audio clip describing Grindr, an app that gay men use to locate other gay men for hookups.

The male friend says: "Say I log into Grindr, someone that's on Grindr can be in that building and it tells you all the locations of where they are and you can be like, 'Yo, you wanna f**k?' and he might be on like, the sixth floor," the pal says.

"Ewww. Eww. To get f**ked? Gay guys are the horniest people in the world," Paris is heard saying in the exclusive audio in response.

"They're disgusting. Dude, most of them probably have AIDS."

The driver who recorded the conversation told Radar: "I couldn't believe what was coming out of Paris' mouth and the way she was talking about gay men."

Nearly halfway into the 50-second clip, Paris is heard saying she'd be afraid to be a gay man and again throws the AIDS card into the mix.

"I would be so scared if I were a gay guy," Paris says.

"You'll like, die of AIDS."

Few would dare. But the president cannot help but be an insider if he is to be effective. So for a president to say he (or she, because the job will eventually be held by a woman) cannot change change Washington from the inside is for him to say he cannot change Washington period.

It's that sort of unforced error I've talked about this week. Obama just handed Mitt Romney a way to change the topic and go onto the offensive, at least at his own rallies and appearances.

I think at this point, people are too used to Romney taking quotes out of context to actually pay attention to another one. Pretty much his entire campaign so far has been out-of-context quotes, and they haven't really been working so far.

If "you didn't build that" fizzled, I don't see how this one sticks. Especially in the wake of the 47% comment. (Maybe, if that had never come out, it could have worked for a few percentage points in the polls)

This is, of course, a total misreading of what Obama said. It's clear that what he meant was that the people have to keep the pressure on the Washington insiders to make the changes they want made.

It won't stop Romney from trying to take it out of context and use it in the way you suggest, but we know he's an unprincipled son of a bitch. You should at least try to be better than that.

True, but Romney's reply using the line more literally was a fair move. And the Tea Party's rise works against Obama, for he touted his health care bill in that part of his interview and the Tea Party mobilized to block it.

So on this one, the GOP can at least attack from ground that will not sink under it.
