In National Review, Mark Steyn Pushes Stupid ‘Obama Flag’ Fake Outrage

Moronic
Wingnuts • Views: 76,069

Here’s a pile of ridiculous garbage by Mark Steyn at National Review, pushing the moronic “Obama flag” fake outrage: Bowing to the Mob.

I see the Obama campaign has redesigned the American flag, and very attractive it is too. Replacing the 50 stars of a federal republic is the single “O” logo symbolizing the great gaping maw of spendaholic centralization. And where the stripes used to be are a handful of red daubs, eerily mimicking the bloody finger streaks left on the pillars of the U.S. consulate in Benghazi as its staff were dragged out by a mob of savages to be tortured and killed. What better symbol could one have of American foreign policy? Who says the slick hollow vapid marketing of the Obama campaign doesn’t occasionally intersect with reality?

People like Mark Steyn are just dishonest, bigoted opportunists, raking in the cash by pandering to the ignorant, perpetually angry right wing. His comparison of an Obama campaign graphic to a photo of blood smears from Libya is deranged and sick, designed solely to inflame the easily inflamed emotions of their Fox News-indoctrinated base.

Notice also that Steyn is still pushing another completely bogus outrage — the false claim that the Libyans photographed carrying Ambassador Stevens’s body were “dragging” him out to be “tortured and killed.”

In the real world, these Libyans were trying to save Ambassador Stevens’s life. They were the good guys. But Mark Steyn continues to smear them as murderous savages even after the real story comes out.

Here’s the truth about presidential campaigns and the US flag. And speaking of Fox News:

Shorter Mark Steyn: ni-CLANG!

This is National Review of course.

The key phrase from Steyn is "I see...".

He doesn't claim these are things that actually happened. They're just the hallucinatory visions this abstract pattern conjures in his mind, like a Rorschach test administered to a madman.

Nobody was dragged out by a mob to be tortured or killed. This did. Not. Happen. How can someone just blatantly lie like that and expect to be taken seriously? And it's not like he needed to either, his readership would get equally outraged if he stuck to editorializing about actual facts.

Does he just like lying?

Good news for absentee voting in Iowa:

"Democrats requested roughly 100,000 ballots, compared with 16,073 ballots requested by Republicans, the newspaper said. Absentee voting and in-person early voting begins on Sept. 27."

Well, sort of I guess but I do think they're fibbing a bit. They bought the video with an exclusive rights agreement, I don;t think that's under dispute but it's not beyond imagination that they bought it for the purposes of shelving it and to keep someone else from buying it. These things happen.
If the Mitt camp was smarter they could have had a proxy buy the secret fundraiser recording from last week.

No need for purple wingnut font, this is an actual quote from freep on this same story:

We just watched 2016. My wife is originally from New York and worked with Jews in the Garment District and then in the Financial District. When the movie was over, I said “Obama is loading the Jews in boxcars.” She said: “Yes, and the American Jews are driving the train.” I truly believe they have a death wish, some type of self hate, deep within their being.

This takes balls. Not a single firearm to be seen in the crowd who only temporarily ducks away as the Islamists inside the compound fire. Once the compound is breached the camera heads around back to catch the tail lights of a car (or two) fleeing.

Um, what? Did you read the article? The LA Times didn't buy any video, and didn't make any "exclusive rights agreements." The reporter, Peter Wallsten, saw the video. The owner didn't sell it to them.

In the case of the Khalidi video, the unnamed source agreed to share the illuminating bit of video evidence with Wallsten, but only with the understanding that the reporter could not reproduce or rebroadcast the images. The journalist had to make a decision: Do I agree to that condition and get to see evidence that no other reporter has seen of Obama meeting with Palestinian Americans? Or do I insist on a full public release of the video, with the likely outcome that the source would share nothing?

Wallsten pushed for the release of the video but when the source would not agree, Wallsten agreed to accept more limited access to the recording. He agreed not to reveal his source nor share the video with anyone else.

They didn't pay any money, and didn't acquire any rights.

Paul Ryan Tells Florida Seniors That Obamacare Includes Death Panels

QUESTION: We love you Paul. But I’m getting long in years. Will you address the death panels that we’re going to have?

RYAN: The death panels, well! That’s not the word I’d choose to use to describe it. It’s actually called. It’s actually called, so in Medicare, what I refer to as this board of 15 bureaucrats. It’s called the Independent Payment Advisory Board. It sounds fairly innocuous.

Politically some things can cost votes. I don't think it makes any difference now but back in 2008 a video of Obama sitting around listening to speeches praising Palestinian resistance could have cost him votes. It's always interesting to me to read people who used to be wingnuts or on the right look back at what they used to believe.

I've changed my mind on a few things here and there as I've grown older, and I'm embarrassed to admit that I went through an Ayn Rand fangirl/pseudo-libertarian phase (this and this were on my bookshelf years ago) for a bit, but overall, I've always been left of center.

I think everybody bounces around a bit in terms of ideology. Although I haven't changed that much in terms of left/right one thing I have changed on is being more aware of tactics, tricks, BS, etc. After being duped by a technique or tactic I try not to repeat the same mistake.

Romney Threatened To Cancel Univision Forum If Organizers Didn’t Allow Him To Bus In Supporters

Mitt Romney packed the audience for a Univision forum earlier this week, BuzzFeed’s McKay Coppins reports, busing in local supporters “after exhausting the few conservative groups on campus.” The campaign threatened to “reschedule” the event if organizers did not allow the “rowdy activists from around southern Florida in order to fill the extra seats at their town hall.”

Romney also refused to come out on stage after the hosts introduced him by noting that he “had agreed to give the network 35 minutes, and that Obama had agreed to a full hour the next night.” Univision re-taped the introduction after Romney allegedly “threw a tantrum.”

re: #174 We're All Welfare Queens Now

Yeah,he was one of those "men's rights advocate"guys. Holy crap what a nutbar. I would find all kinds of awful stuff on my blog every morning,it didn't matter what the hell I wrote about. The email with the satellite photo was entitled "Submitted Without Comment".It scared the hell out of me. The guy was an IT dude,I traced him to Oregon, but I had a cop tell me that if he was savvy enough he could route his computer's info through anywhere in the world if he had access to the right equipment and programming. Since he didn't threaten us outright, there wasn't much anyone could do,so I went off the interwebs for nearly a year except to surf. I don't know if I'll ever do blogging again though, that experience freaked me the hell out. Facebook with loads of restrictions on who can see me is more than enough.

Charles and others could have a conversation with you. Such BS/hate against, need I say, free speech?

UPDATE 1-Two Islamist militias in Libya's Derna say disbanding

The two main Islamist militias in Derna, a city in eastern Libya known as an Islamist stronghold, withdrew from their five military bases and announced they were disbanding, residents said on Saturday.

"Abu Slim had three camps and Ansar al-Sharia had two. So it's five. Empty. All empty," Siraj Shennib, a 29-year-old linguistics professor who has been part of protests against the militia, said by telephone.

He said commanders from the two groups had addressed the crowd in person and announced that they were disbanding.

Yep. If you had told me 5 yrs ago I'd be a part of Little Green Footballs I would have been horrified. This place has changed so much, when I first began reading over here maybe a year ago I couldn't believe it was the same place I used to loathe. I had been part of Firedoglake and left because it became a mess(except for TBogg's page),Kos,Democratic Underground, and even had my own blog for awhile under a different name. Quit all of them. Ended up with a rwnj stalker who threatened my kid,so I pulled my whole blog down and got the people to take me out of The Way Back Machine. Fucker sent me a satellite photo from mapquest of my son's school. I have no idea how he figured all that out,to this day I have no clue. He got his wish,I quit blogging,it wasn't worth it. But,yeah,at least here there's some lively debate and lots of people to help you find info and stuff here,I like that.

Two things:

1) It looks like I've been here about two years. I started reading LGF because I heard it was a conservative sight, and I should read other stuff than Raw Story and Crooks & Liars.

This is one of the few political blogs I read, and it should be noted that I've pretty much given up on C&L and RawStory (way too many truthers, among other reasons.)

2) I'm sorry you got threatened the way you did. MRAs are among the worst trolls out there; anyone who thinks that men's civil rights are endangered are fucking morons.

Over at Freethought blogs, the author of Blah Hag, Jen McCreight, has stopped blogging for similar reasons. The feminist part of the Atheism + scene has really sent the MRAs into a rage.

Glad you and your kid are safe and hope you get to start up a blog again.

Chick-fil-A Fails to Live Up to Promises of Stricter Donation Guidelines

It’s time to talk about Chick-fil-A again.

Just days after the fast food chain reportedly agreed to cease donations to groups that promote discrimination, the Advocate is reporting that just this Tuesday, Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy tweeted a photo from an event raising funds for an anti-LGBT group, the Marriage and Family Foundation.

In fact, Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy appeared on Mike Huckabee's interview show on Friday stating that they never claimed to agree to stop funding far-right groups.

I'm always up in the air about that. The few times I've admitted to being atheist to people have not been pleasant. Times like those I thought I should join a group to help change that reaction. In a religious soaked country like the US, it's not easy.

Part of the problem, unfortunately, for a lot of people, simply saying you don't believe is "in your face", "arrogant", and "hateful".

The best was when I was working with a National Guardsman who would always use the phrase "if He exists" when talking about God. When I mentioned I don't believe, I was told I was what's wrong with the US.

Yay America.

Israelis fear PM is meddling in US politics

Tony Blair is also chuntering on this week about the threat from Iran, and how poorly Obama is mismanaging it in his opinion, and yet people do not seem overly afraid that he's meddling in the election.

Perhaps it's because he's not PM anymore, but then again, he's not staring down the barrel of the gun, either.

Amazing. Didn't know that. Given the state of gay rights in some Arab countries, that is cognitive dissonance turned up to 11.

Eh, only because in our minds it looks romantic. If you've not been conditioned to see it as a gesture between lovers, it doesn't look like one.

That totally makes them look even more petty and stupid. Which is almost becoming impossible to do,but I'm sure they'll keep finding ways to top themselves. Go Team Romney!!!

Because you make a candidate that much more approachable and likable by putting curtains between him and the media.

Steyn is one of those pundits upon whom the hate-right bestows prestige, under some pretense that Steyn is some brilliant thinker, or something like that.

However, he's nothing but another hater, one who can write complete English sentences with correct spelling and thus I suppose that sets himself above the masses.

I went to an aunt's 80th birthday party today at my cousin's house, where the front yard sported about 20 different Mitt signs. He was like, so the Romney signs didn't scare you away, I'm like, nah that's how I figured out which house was yours. So where's the beer? ha. Everybody had a good time and no one griped about politics.

It's the British accent. Wingnuts love British accents. To them, it makes anything sound smart, even the most brain-dead craziness. Another example of this is Christopher Monckton.

As the good ship Romney sinks, I can hear the band play "Bésame Moocher" from the observation deck.

Funny I was just thinking about you..I was daydreaming about the time the Gov't sent me to Philly to help close the shipyard. I think I was there for 6+ months and I flew Mom and Dad back to Philly for a week and we explored your awesome city. Guess I was missing my folks and thinking about Philly.
Hope today finds you well

There's some spotlight thing going on along the Ben Franklin Parkway near the Art Museum tonight. With the low clouds from the rain and a bit of mist it's pretty interesting. I was expecting to hear the air raid sirens as I was driving in from the west this evening.
