Quinnipiac/CBS/NYT Poll: Obama Has Big Leads in Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania

Mitt Romney’s terrible week gets worse
Politics • Views: 40,032

Another day, another poll that right wingers will claim is “skewed” — because the results are absolutely horrible news for Mitt Romney: Presidential Swing States (FL, OH & PA) Poll * September 26, 2012 * Obama Has Big Leads in Florida - Quinnipiac University.

  • FLORIDA: Obama 53 - Romney 44
  • OHIO: Obama 53 - Romney 43
  • PENNSYLVANIA: Obama 54 - Romney 42

President Barack Obama is over the magic 50 percent mark and tops Gov. Mitt Romney among likely voters by 9 to 12 percentage points in Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania, according to a Quinnipiac University/ CBS News/New York Times Swing State Poll released today.

Voters in each state see President Obama as better than Gov. Romney to handle the economy, health care, Medicare, national security, an international crisis and immigration. Romney ties or inches ahead of the president on handling the budget deficit.

Matching Obama against Romney in each of these key states - no one has won the White House since 1960 without taking at least two of them - shows:

  • Florida: Obama leads Romney 53 - 44 percent, compared to 49 - 46 percent August 23;
  • Ohio: Obama over Romney 53 - 43 percent, compared to 50 - 44 percent August 23;
  • Pennsylvania: Obama tops Romney 54 - 42 percent, unchanged from 53 - 42 percent August 1.

Likely voters say Obama can better handle the economy, the top issue listed by voters, 51 - 46 percent in Florida, 51 - 45 percent in Ohio and 51 - 45 percent in Pennsylvania.

Well, obviously the polls must be wrong, because they're still relying on turn-out data from '08, when we all know that the results will be more like '10, so Romney has to be leading.

In a lot of ways, I think we can say that no matter who wins, history will be made. Either Obama will win and be the first two-term black president as well as the first in modern history to win reelection with UE over 7.2%, or Romney will win and go against every historical precedent that says a candidate so far down at this point is almost assured to lose.

Deadbeat says Romney right about the 47%

During a campaign event on Saturday, a voter asked Walsh if there was anything wrong with the Republican presidential nominee’s remarks.

“He didn’t say it as probably exquisitely as he should have said it,” Walsh admitted.

“Because he was speaking the truth though,” a constituent pointed out.

“Yeah, Yeah, Yeah I know that,” Walsh agreed. “Look and this, look I know better than anybody. This is a game of gotcha. Every single word that Joe Walsh says is being taped by my opponents. That’s what these cameras are for. So politicians get very afraid to do this.”

“But what Mitt Romney meant to say was this. Here’s why this is the most important election in our country’s history, because we are at a scary point right now where there are too many Americans dependent on government,” the congressman continued. “Or as a very wise woman told me in the last campaign, we have too many people in the wagon and not enough people pulling the wagon.”

German court rules Catholics must pay tax to remain in church

A top German court ruled on Wednesday that Roman Catholics must pay their church tax in order to remain a member of the Church and participate in its rites.

The Federal Administrative Court’s ruling came two days after a decree by the German bishops’ conference took effect, barring Catholics from receiving the sacraments or becoming a godparent if they refuse to pay the levy.

The bishops said the new restrictions were aimed at countering dwindling church congregations in Germany but a progressive Catholic group has criticised it as a system of “pay and pray”

bacon shortage ‘unavoidable’

Record droughts in the US and Russia are threatening to curtail the world’s bacon supply, farmers in the US and Europe are warning.

So dire is the situation that a world shortage of pork and bacon is “unavoidable” next year, according to Britain’s National Pig Association. And in the US farmers predict pork prices will hit new highs in 2013 as farmers cut back on production due to soaring feed costs.

Global warming is threatening bacon?

Barton: Obama's Decision Allowing Flexibility in Welfare Work Requirements is 'Anti-Biblical'

This is serious stuff and not the least of which is on what basis do you have to unilaterally rewrite the welfare law? And by the way, it was on a biblical principle; the Bible says if you don't work, you don't eat and he removed the word requirement. He says "well, you can eat without working."

See, that's another area where I could say he is biblically hostile because the Bible says if you don't work, you don't eat and he says "well, not in this country, we're not going to do that." So not only is it anti-Constitutional, it's anti-biblical and that's a real problem.

I missed the part in the Bible where Jesus kicked a leper and said "Get a job, you lazy smelly bum."

Unbiblical! Oh. Wait.

Then the king will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.’

Then the righteous will answer him and say, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?’

And the king will say to them in reply, ‘Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.’ -- Matthew 25: 34-40 (NABRE)

What Freep thinks of this new poll

To: ScottinVA

“GOPers and conservatives, even in conquered states like CA, NY, PA, MI and the Northeast, still need to make their presence known. Even if we have to go down in defeat, let’s at least make it not because of lack of effort. Make a statement that Obama doesn’t own all of us.”

Sounds as if you see what’s coming — as do I.

This doesn’t mean it’s time to give up the fight. I’ll vote “against Obama” in November, as I know that you will, too. Ain’t no way I’m not goin’ to the polls to have my say this November!

But if he wins again, conservatives must face hard truths about their personal futures and the future of the country as well.

If the Republican party can’t beat a socialist/marxist like Obama, if they can’t defeat someone as extreme as him with a candidate as “smooth” as Mitt Romney, how the heck are they going to win again?

America is “changin’ away on us”, and it’s not for the better. That as destructive and shady an individual as Obama could win the presidency, and then go on to win it AGAIN says more about what a growing plurality of our population wants, as much as it says about Obama himself.

A growing cohort of the population no longer believes in nor wants the traditional Scots-Irish ideal of self-sufficiency and freedom — the republic created for us by The Founders. Rather, they’re quite comfortable to let government be “their new Massa”, and take what it hands out to them, “free of charge”. Except, the handouts come with a hidden price...

Couple this with the inevitable demographic changes that are coming (amnesty for the illegals will certainly be part of Obama’s second term), and within twenty years, conservatives will no longer be able to “raise a national voice” loudly enough to remain an influential force in the government any longer.

What’s the alternative?
How about something like the Amish and Mennonites do? That is to say, conservatives will have to take up their beds and re-congregate into geographical areas (such as certain states) where they will remain the dominant group (both philosophically and ethnically). They’ll have to migrate to such locations which the left will ignore the longest in their quest for power. Conservatives will have to create communities (actually those communities already exist) which will have a decent chance of surviving the inevitable “crashes to come”, as the cities and surrounding areas collapse.

Think of Ray Bradbury’s “Fahrenheit 451” for a moment. In the novel, the renegade “fireman”, hunted by the authorities in the city, flees to a far-off area where the government doesn’t go and where freedom is still cherished and (like the books in the novel) “remembered”.

How ironic that within fifty years, the country changed so much that “the old ways” are now regarded as dangerous, and those that hold them dear have become “the new renegades”....

How Ohio Began To Slip Away From Mitt Romney

A series of miscues on important Ohio issues and a successful effort by President Barack Obama’s campaign to define the Republican challenger have made Romney’s odds look increasingly long in the Rust Belt bellwether. Eight of the 12 public polls conducted after the Democratic National Convention have shown Romney with at least a 4-point deficit and one on Wednesday showed him down by 10. No Republican candidate has ever won the White House without carrying Ohio.

It almost looks like more moderate Republicans are breaking for Obama, If that's true I hope the wingnut side of their party is taking note of that, but I wont hold my breath.

I never want to count chickens - but my hope is that in response to a Romney loss, Ryan and other Republicans will continue to think that a successful electoral advantage can be gained by even stronger pandering to extremists.

I used to think of the Dems as being the more politically tone-deaf party. No longer.

US Army general arrested on sex charges

An Army brigadier general has been charged with forcible sodomy, multiple counts of adultery and having inappropriate relationships with female subordinates while serving in Afghanistan, two U.S. defense officials said Wednesday.

The defense officials spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to provide details on the case.

Brig. Gen. Jeffrey A. Sinclair faces possible courts martial on charges that include forced sex, possessing pornography and alcohol while deployed, and misusing a government travel charge card.

Giuliani: Obama Should Tell Iran ‘I’m Going To Bomb You’

Seeing that Mitt Romney’s campaign has struggled to substantively differentiate itself from President Obama’s Iran policy, it has turned to strange claims about making the military option in preventing Iran from getting a nuke more “credible.” It’s unclear what that actually means but Romney surrogate Rudy Giuliani gave shot at clearing it up this morning on CNN:

GIULIANI: He hasn’t said that he would use military force. The President keeps out two words from his vocabulary, two phrases, “I will use military force.” Like Ronald Reagan would have said. Direct. Clear.

HOST: Isn’t that the same as all options are on the table? [...]

GIULIANI: Here’s the difference, when you say all options are on the table you sound like Jimmy Carter and you keep the hostages. When you say, “I’m going to bomb you” … and if you say “I’m going to bomb you,” you look like Ronald Reagan and you release the hostages.

I'm starting to suspect we'll see a lot of shenanigans on election day by Republican leaning individuals/poll workers, like perhaps:

- certain ballots mysteriously going missing or being declared invalid
- telling people they aren't registered or are ineligible to vote if they actually are
- lying about the hours the polls are open and/or mysterious early closures of polling places in more "urban" areas

It's sad really, but I truly suspect there are some people willing to go to some pretty unethical lengths to try and increase the chances of Obama losing.

Absolutely disgusting:

A Warner Robins woman wants an apology from a Kroger manager who she says disparaged her for using food stamps to pay for her groceries.

Cindy Nerger spends 12 hours on dialysis every day. She's been on the waiting list for a kidney transplant for five years. She's the caregiver for the grandmother who raised her.

Since Nerger can't work, the family relies on her husband's income, but he works only part-time so he can help her.
--------
"He told me I owed him 10 dollars and some change. I am not exactly sure what it was, but I told him, I said I am sorry sir, but there is nothing in my cart that is not covered by food stamps," said Nerger.

She and the Kroger employees went back and forth about this for half an hour when a manager acknowledged was right about the purchase all along.

"I was upset, so, I was like, you know, I told you that it was covered under food stamps, you know, so, there was no need for all of this, you know, and he said, "Well excuse me that I work for a living and don't rely on food stamps like you," Nerger said.
