I was right about the Packers winning and the Vikings also came out on top. The Giants are playing the Eagles right now, with Eli looking for his team's 3rd win. Time Bomb: Military Ordnance in Gulf of Mexico Poses Threat to Shipping, Says Expert

The bombs are no stranger to Bryant and Slowey, who have come across them numerous times while conducting various research projects in the Gulf, and they have photographed many of them sitting on the Gulf floor like so many bowling pins, some in areas cleared for oil and gas platform installation.

"We surveyed some of them on trips to the Gulf within the past few years," he notes. "Ten are about 60 miles out and others are about 100 miles out. The next closest dump site to Texas is in Louisiana, not far from where the Mississippi River delta area is in the Gulf. Some shrimpers have recovered bombs and drums of mustard gas in their fishing nets."

Obama camp: No ‘zingers’ at debate with Romney

President Barack Obama won't be using 'zingers' against Mitt Romney when they clash Wednesday in their first face-to-face debate, a campaign spokeswoman said Sunday. And while beer has featured prominently in recent campaign swings, Obama will be sure to reach out to soda-drinkers, too.

"This will be a very large audience," Jen Psaki told reporters aboard Air Force Once. "He wants to speak directly to the families -- the people who are on their couches at home, having snacks, drinking a beer, drinking soda, whatever it is, and tuning in for the first time -- and that's who he's speaking directly to."

"We also saw in reports that Mitt Romney and his team have been working on zingers and special lines for months," Psaki said. "That's not what the President's focus is on. So if you're expecting that, that's probably not what he's going to deliver on."

They say that but they never back that up. Whole thing seems like wishful thinking. Just like Herman Cain claiming that he would do better than any Republican since Eisenhower with the black vote. It shocks and pisses off the right wing but they're a big part of the reason why African Americans don't like nor trust the Republican Party. They don't forget that Nixon who had once been a champion of Civil Rights decided he'd rather pander to Strom Thurmond than try to make in roads with the AA community.

The law goes into effect January 1, 2013, and prohibits state-licensed therapists from engaging in "reparative therapy" with minors. Advocates for the bill say that conversion therapy uses dangerous tactics that place youth at a high risk of depression and suicide.

Republican strength in congress aids super-rich, president's affiliation has no effect

Republican strength in Congress increases the share of income held by the top 1 percent, but the president's political affiliation has no effect, suggests a new study in the October issue of the American Sociological Review that looks at the rise of the super-rich in the United States.

"This points to the central role that Congress has in the legislative process," said study co-author Thomas W. Volscho, an Assistant Professor of Sociology at CUNY-College of Staten Island. "The president has limited ability to make the sort of legislative changes necessary to affect the top 1 percent without the support of Congress, making Congress the central actor here."

[...]

While Volscho and Kelly found that Republican strength in Congress was associated with higher levels of inequality, the link between politics and inequality was not merely due to redistribution, as the study was based on income, including capital gains, prior to taxes and transfers.

"Democrats are more favorable than Republicans toward social programs that redistribute income, but the parties also differ over what the economic rules of the game should be," Volscho said. "Based on our analysis, Democrats appear to favor an economic system that produces more egalitarian outcomes even before any redistribution occurs."

I think one of the big turning points in the campaign was SCOTUS upholding ACA's constitutionality. Man oh man the right and Romney seemed so confident that there was no way that Roberts would let it be affirmed. Hell, I still remember Mitt bragging the night before SCOTUS announced the decision here in Virginia that he knew that White House wasn't sleeping well. I really don't think they had a Plan B for SCOTUS upholding ACA. I still think despite the fact that ACA isn't exactly popular that having its legality upheld has helped its political legitimacy a ton and thus Obama's too. We heard how that legislation was unconstitutional, unAmerican, and even from people like Sarah Palin that it would lead to death panels. I think many people are seeing that the Tea Party bullshit about health care was just that and then they see Mitt Romney. A man who championed similar legislation as governor pandering to that and I don't think they like that.

A Pakistani juvenile court is expected to hear Monday the case of a Christian teenage girl accused of violating blasphemy laws by allegedly burning pages containing texts from the Quran.

An Islamabad court ordered the case transferred to juvenile court last week after a police investigation concluded that an imam framed the girl, Rimsha.

The imam, Khalid Jadoon Chishti, is scheduled to appear at a separate court hearing Monday after he was arrested last month on accusations of evidence tampering. Police have said he could face blasphemy charges, a dramatic twist in the saga.

The 14-year-old Rimsha had been held in an adult jail before she was released on bail in September. The transfer of her case to juvenile court is a good sign, a rights group says.

"This is a precursor to the case ending, and that is quite unprecedented in the 25-year history of Pakistan's blasphemy laws," said Ali Dayan Hasan, the Pakistan director of Human Rights Watch.

If Mitt Romney and his team had actually run a campaign of ideas, Ryan might have been of some use. Instead, Mitt has barely articulated what he stands for and there's just over a month left in the campaign. He's never taken a specific position on anything except to say that he's not Barack Obama.

Yeah. Penalizes you if you just rush in headfirst, while encouraging you to seek higher ground, to flank enemies, and to take cover into consideration when choosing where to move.

The first mission, the tutorial, you lose 3 out of 4. If you continue, you get to run a second mission where you get a lot more freedom to make your own decisions, with a team of one rifleman, one shotgunner, one heavy and one sniper.

Yeah, I managed to get through that with no problem. But the whole "last man standing" scenario in the tutorial seems forced. Kobayashi Maru.

That was from 1964, a year in American Pop that in retrospect looks kind of strange. The Beatles made their big splash that year and the ripples sort of disturbed the pond, so to speak.

In "easy listening" pop there were some really big hits that year (Armstrong, Streisand, Martin), but as far as "rock and roll" only a few artists/groups had hits that 48 years later are worth another hearing, and it's a short list:

So many of the "rock and roll" hits of that year really haven't aged well and sound quite dated, "period" pieces.

I had all but given up on rock at that point and was listening to ear-bending progressive jazz/fusion.

Morning, all.

I want to post something here that doesn't pass the smell test. Not sure there's enough relevant information for a page (since I've never posted a page it makes me even more uncertain, and since the woman in question is not a public figure, I'm even less likely to want to go out on that limb).

I saw an ad last night for Mitt Romney called "Why I Changed My Vote," featuring testimonials from a number of women who were changing their vote from President Obama to Mitt Romney.

While most of the testimonials seemed authentic, one woman's words did not -- she just seemed a bit too polished. Her name was "Jodi C.," and she claimed to be a lifelong Democrat who voted for President Obama, but was now switching to Mitt Romney.

A link to a site called winfield411.com provided me a little more information, that "Jodi C.'s" name is Jodi Carroll, and she's from Winfield, Illinois.

Jodi Carroll's Facebook page -- and you can see from her picture that she's the same woman featured in the ad -- has a number of likes:

-- Paul Ryan
-- Marco Rubio
-- CEO's for Liberty
-- Tea Party Freedom
-- John Stossel
-- Libertarian Party of Illinois
-- "Conservative"
-- "I Built It"
-- Republican National Committee
-- "I'm a Libertarian and You Would Be Too, If You Knew What It Was"
-- Gary Johnson
-- Fox News
-- Jeff Flake
-- National Right To Work
-- Doctors 4 Patient Care (an organization dedicated to overturning the Affordable Healthcare Act).

She also supports the following candidates for various offices: Arie Friedman, Mark Neerhof, Peter Roskam, Jeanne Ives and Mark Green.

All are Republicans.

I'm not saying Ms. Carroll is lying -- she may very well have voted for Obama -- but she appears to be one of the unlikeliest "lifelong Democrats" I've ever seen.

Probably a CUNY. I'm investigating their outcomes right now-- how many students get jobs-- but they have a master's programs, they're far cheaper than NYU, and more used to older students like me.

I was so half-assed the first time I was in college. I really should have taken a couple of years off before college before I went, to smarten up a little. The mistakes I made back then seem trivially easy to avoid now.

I hope you find some good outcomes information - it's notoriously hard to get accurate data in that area, and not just because colleges try to avoid releasing anything that might make them look bad - it's just hard to actually collect accurate data in the first place. If you're doing a professional masters to go for a non-academic job then obviously networking opportunities are critical.

I sometimes wish I could go back to college and actually focus on learning stuff rather than making friends and having fun. Youth wasted on the young etc. Having said that I don't really regret it - college was a lot of fun and I did actually learn some stuff that I still use from time to time.

Yeah, the main thing I've found is a report by the NY DOE criticizing the CUNYs for the lack of outcome assessment done at the higher level. That was a few years ago, maybe they've stepped up.

My wife is pushing me to try NYU instead but they're literally about 8 times as expensive. I don't know if it's worth the difference.

I want to be a LCSW, but I know I'm going to wind up back in California, so the networking will not be actually all that useful over here. However, my wife is going to be a doctor, and so I'll be able to network through her, too.

Navy's green plan for Pearl Harbor runway draws fire
"Consider the hue and cry should a 60,000-panel project be located at Gettysburg or Valley Forge," the museum said in a written statement. DeHoff says the museum suggested the Navy build the solar panel array at West Loch, an unused area to the west of the airfield on Waipio Peninsula, but he says the Navy rejected the alternative location because it was within the "blast arc," or minimum safe distance, of an area where the Navy stores ammunition.

There's actually one school in the CUNY system that tanks their ratings. It has something like a 25% 6 year graduation rate. I don't know what they're doing there, but they're doing it wrong.

The CUNY system excluding that school has a bad 4-year graduation rate, but a perfectly fine (comparable to normal state schools) 6-year graduation rate.

Sometimes a bad graduation rate means they're giving marginal beginning students a shot. (That's one reason our elementary/HS numbers can be made to look bad in historical comparison. No would have given my backwoods FIL a shot at HS. He wound up piloting his own Aztec.)

If you've ever handled an actual or quality reproduction war axe-- like a Dane axe-- it feels totally different from a wood-chopping axe. My advice to any would-be axe-murderers out there is to invest in a quality reproduction, and not just use a wood-chopping axe. There's really no choice to be made between the two-- using the wood-chopping axe to try to cleave people is a great way to cut your own foot off. Use a Dane axe, and you'll be lopping off limbs with a smile.

Yeah, I think that's a lot of it, but then they don't actually manage to do anything with them. In this particular college, out of the 40+ people that have applied for the CPA exam or license or whatever, none of them have ever gotten it. Success rate of 0%.

Preparing the public for impeachment?

Huckabee Suggests Obama Should Be Impeached Over Libya Incident

Fox News host and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) compared the administration’s handling of the consulate attack in Libya to Watergate, during an appearance on the network Friday morning, and hinted that the president should be impeached for not immediately attributing the violence to terrorism.

“We have been flat-out lied to,” Huckabee told Fox’s Bill Hemmer. “They know they lied. As if airplanes crashing into the World Trade Center said those were just accidents. Anybody with two eyes and an IQ above plant life knows what happened in Libya was not a spontaneous reaction to a 13 minute video on YouTube”

You could probably test meat from that gator and find out. If they were cage/pen raising it the odds are it was getting fed chicken. And the chicken would be corn fed. And that can be traced since corn proteins are different than whatever a wild gator would be eating.

Hopefully voters who go to the polls will do their research beforehand so they know how they want to vote on all of the proposals. If not, the lines will be very long and extremely slow.

Obama Hate Speech Spreads on Facebook
by Leslie Meredith, Senior Writer, TechNewsDaily
19 July 2012 12:09 PM ET

Racism is alive and well on Facebook, despite the social network's policy banning hate speech.

A new study from Baylor University shows how anti-Obama and just plain racist groups use Facebook to spread their messages. And we're not talking about politics, but Ku Klux Klan-style hate speech using old stereotypes updated with do-rags and golden grills.

"Some people have declared the present a "post-racial" era in that U.S. citizens elected a black president, maintaining that policies to address racism are no longer necessary," Mia Moody, Ph.D., who led the Baylor study, said in a statement. "But depictions of minorities in new media show otherwise."

Obama’s claim that the Bush tax cuts led to the economic crisis

We nearly made this Four Pinocchios but ultimately decided that citing deregulation in conjunction with tax cuts kept this line out of the “whopper” category. Still, in his effort to portray Romney as an echo of Bush, the president really stretches the limits here.

Chavez dirty tricks? Venezuela prints a confusing ballot

Ballots are already printed for Sunday's election in Venezuela, but the opposition candidate's photo is shown in at least four places where, if marked, the vote will not be counted for his party.

It will be interesting to see if Chavez ever gives up power peacefully.

Do you think he will ever stand up to the Tea Party extremists and just say No to them about anything at all? He hasn't yet and that is why he has ceded the middle ground. In Massachusetts he was in the minority party and had to compromise and make deals with the other side. Disturbing developments are sweeping across the greater Middle East. In Syria, tens of thousands of innocent people have been slaughtered. In Egypt, the Muslim Brotherhood has come to power, and the country's peace treaty with Israel hangs in the balance. In Libya, our ambassador was murdered in a terrorist attack. U.S. embassies throughout the region have been stormed in violent protests. And in Iran, the ayatollahs continue to move full tilt toward nuclear-weapons capability, all the while promising to annihilate Israel.

These developments are not, as President Obama says, mere "bumps in the road." They are major issues that put our security at risk.

Let's see - In Syria we can wipe out Assad like we did Gh'daffy, then jail and interrogate the Muslim Brotherhood and their al-Qaeda buddies. In Egypt we can invade like we did in Iraq, then jail and interrogate the Muslim Brotherhood and their al-Qaeda buddies. In Lybia we can wipe out Gh'daffy like we did Assad (who's in power there again?), then jail and interrogate the Muslim Brotherhood and their al-Qaeda buddies. In Iran we can wipe out the ayatollahs like we did Gh'daffy and Assad, then jail and interrogate the Muslim Brotherhood and their al-Qaeda buddies.

389 lawhawk  Mon, Oct 1, 2012 8:36:07am

Greets and saluts from the NYC metro area. So, Mitt's busy showing just how ignorant he is of the Middle East.

There's always a crisis or nuclear development, or Israel is threatened or imperiled. There's always been regimes under threat from revolt. There have always been regimes that seek to destabilize their rivals and foes.

Just a quick history lesson:

1948 - Israel's independence; Jordan invades and captures West Bank as part of war; Egypt takes Gaza.

1956 - France, Britain, Israel fight war against Egypt; war called by US/USSR and situation reverts to ceasefire lines from 1948.

1967 Six Day War - Israel captures West Bank, Sinai, Golan, Jerusalem - fighter planes buzz Cairo and Damascus.

1970 War of Attrition between Israel and Egypt

1973 Yom Kippur War - after nearly losing the Golan to Syria and suffering heavy tank and plane losses at outset, Israel regains tactical and strategic advantages - nearly eliminating Egyptian military in Sinai and once again buzz Damascus with planes.

1975 - 1990 Lebanese civil war

1978 Camp David Accords (running through 1981 with Sinai handover)

1979 Iranian revolution

1980 Iran hostage situation drags on

1980 - 1988 Iran-Iraq war - over borders of the Shaat al Arab (oil); hundreds of thousands killed on both sides

1981 Osirak raid by Israel against Iraqi nuclear plant; Egypt's Sadat assassinated; Mubarak assumes power

1982 Israel invades southern Lebanon because of PLO attacks, rise of Hizbullah and Marine barracks bombing in Beirut; Hama leveled by Hafez Assad (Hama rules)

1983- 2005 Sudanese civil war (includes Darfur genocide)

1986 - 1989 Anfal campaign in Kurdish Iraq - upwards of 1 million killed; more displaced

1990 Iraq invades Kuwait - First Gulf War ensues (sanctions last through 2003 invasion in 2d Gulf War).

That's just a sampling of major and calamitous events from the past century. Periods of calm are few and far between. Much more common is unrest, violence, and outright war. The selected items don't include terror attacks like the African embassy bombings; USS Cole attack; the ongoing terror attacks and safe havens in Somalia and Yemen; and actions such as Operation Cast Lead; the Hizbullah War; the Palestinian civil war (following the Gaza disengagement); the intifadas; etc.

re: #408 Cannadian Club Akbar

Is that the one where the terrorist killed the Navy SeAL?

Link here...

TWA Flight 847 was hijacked en route from Athens to Rome and forced to land in Beirut, Lebanon, where the hijackers held the plane for 17 days. They demanded the release of the Kuwait 17 as well as the release of 700 fellow Shiite Muslim prisoners held in Israeli prisons and in prisons in southern Lebanon run by the Israeli-backed South Lebanon Army. When these demands weren't met, hostage Robert Dean Stethem, a U.S. Navy diver, was shot and his body dumped on the airport tarmac. U.S. sources implicated Hezbollah.

In what was widely perceived as an implicit, never explicit, quid pro quo, the hostages started being released by the hijackers, followed some days after by Israel starting to free some of its hundreds of Shiite prisoners. At the time, U.S. officials denied there was a deal and said Israel had already committed to releasing the prisoners.

Imad Mughniyah, a senior officer with Hezbollah, was secretly indicted for the TWA hijacking in 1987, along with three others. One of those indicted, Mohammed Ali Hamadei, was arrested in Frankfurt, Germany. In 1989 he was convicted in a German court and sentenced to life in prison. [Editor's Note: Imad Mugniyah remained at large and on the FBI's Most Wanted List for 19 years, until he was killed in a car bombing in Damascus, Syria on Feb. 12, 2008.]

Also during 1970 - a series of Palestinian terrorists hijacked planes.

First and foremost, they would have been notObama.

Concerning the involvement of the American military in the 2011 Libyan civil war, Romney initially said in March that Obama had waited too long before becoming involved, and he also criticized Obama for ruling out the use of United States ground forces.[183] The next month, he said that he supported the "specific, limited mission" of enforcing a no-fly zone, but that Obama's support for the ouster of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi constituted "mission creep and mission muddle."[183] In October, after Gaddafi's death, Romney said, "I think people across the world recognize that the world is a better place without Muammar Gaddafi."[183]

Tactically speaking most of those are pretty good advice with the exception of #6 about letting the Bush tax cuts expire. Last I checked the public was in favor of letting them expire for top earners. Also #10 is a very bad idea. Drawing attention to rabid and unreasonable obstructionism on the part of Republicans is stupid and Obama will know that one out of the park.

3) After the lethal attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, U.S. intelligence agencies collected information that the attacks were premeditated and coordinated by elements of al Qaeda in Libya, and timed to the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Yet your administration insisted for more than a week that the attacks were a spontaneous reaction to a YouTube video. Susan Rice, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, was sent to five Sunday morning shows to repeat a claim that she -- and you -- had to have known was untrue. The video maker is now under arrest, ostensibly because of parole violations, but pretty obviously for exercising his free-speech rights. Why didn't you just tell the truth to the American people from the start?

And this one I'd love to hear the answer from the top-
1) More than 50 U.S. and coalition soldiers have been killed so far this year by supposedly friendly Afghan forces. Two Americans were fatally shot just last week by Afghans we trained and equipped. These so-called "green on blue" attacks now account for 14% of all coalition casualties.

In 2009, you ordered 33,000 additional U.S. forces into Afghanistan. Three years later, Afghanistan looks no more stable than it did in 2009. Can you tell us specifically what the Afghan surge accomplished?

IKEA's Saudi Arabia catalog erases women; company expresses regret

IKEA Group said in a statement that its values “support the fundamental human rights of all people” and “do not accept any kind of discrimination.” IKEA Saudi Arabia, it said, is run by a franchisee outside the IKEA Group.

“As a producer of the catalog, we regret the current situation,” IKEA Group said. “We should have reacted to the exclusion of women from the Saudi Arabian version of the catalog since it does not align with the IKEA Group values.”

The company continued: “We are now reviewing our routines to safeguard a correct content presentation from a values point of view in the different versions of the IKEA Catalogue worldwide.”

Obama’s claim that the Bush tax cuts led to the economic crisis

Outrageous!

Yeah, that's a good example of why people who blindly swallow what the factcheckers have to offer are stupid.

First of all, what Obama actually said is that Romney was going to follow the same trickle-down economics which led to the meltdown in the first place. It wasn't that the Bush Tax cuts on their own was the problem, it was the whole trickle-down philosophy. And this is true: from privledging investment income, to deregulation of the financial industry, a trickle-down approach, thinking that wealth creation at the highest level is the best way to keep the economy strong, is indeed what led to the meltdown.

It's really interesting how people, even self-professed cynics, fall for a rebranded media source calling itself a 'factchecker'.

The answer to the second one is "kept things from completely falling apart," just like the Iraq surge. (The real answer is there's no way of knowing unless we go back to 2009 and try it the other way. How do you expect anyone to do that?)

The answer to the first is 1) a) What does it matter? and b) Have you looked at the reasons for revoking his parole? Why does it look "pretty obvious?"

Personally I'm not that concerned about the Libya thing. Of course in hind sight security should have been better but these things happen. Republicans can possibly make some political points with it if they're careful.
The problem with the questions about the Afghan surge (and pretty much everything else on the list) is that Mitt has no serious plans of his own, At least nothing with any substance. After reading Mitt's WSJ article this morning he's just back seat driving, complaining, using catch phrases without contributing anything serious of his own. Many of Frum's questions are decent ideas from a political standpoint but I don;t think Mitt is in a very good position to take advantage of them.

The Paul Ryan Legend Dissipates

"...Wallace is trying to do something that Ryan is not used to: ask him how the numbers in his plan add up. The Romney tax plan is premised on a mathematical impossibility. It promises to reduce tax rates by 20 percent and cover the lost revenue by eliminating tax deductions, exempting tax breaks for investment income. Even making a series of assumptions ranging from friendly to impossibly friendly, it can’t add up. The lost revenue from the tax rate cuts on income over $250,000 exceeds the available revenue from eliminating deductions. Even Republican attempts to disprove this finding have inadvertently confirmed it.

Beck: It would take a miracle for Romney to win (not quite what he said but...)

Eventually, the topic turned toward the current election, where Beck admitted that though Mitt Romney was not his first choice to be the Republican presidential nominee, he feels good about the upcoming election, as does everyone Beck considers to be a "spiritual giant," despite the fact that "nothing looks good" and all the polls and campaign developments are telling him that there is "no reason that I should feel good on this."

But it is exactly the dire state of the campaign that is making Beck so confident because, as he said, "God is trying to make this so clear to us that, if it happens, it's His finger" as both Beck and Barton went on to credit Romney's deep spiritual life and compare him to George Washington:

American rights group arrives in Pakistan to participate in Pakistan peace rally

Ignoring a travel warning issued by the U.S. State Department for Pakistan, a 30-member U.S. civil society delegation has reached Islamabad to participate in the rally organised by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on October 7 to protest against drone strikes.
...
Wright said U.S. is violating the sovereignty of Pakistan by carrying out drone strikes.

"We believe that travel warning is issued because the U.S. government does not want us to see what they are doing. We believe the President of the US is killing innocent people in Pakistan, that is wrong," Wright said.

The purpose of the surge was to enable a US pull out by building up the Afghan forces so they can take over and as protection for a “population-centric counterinsurgency” - a rebuilding and expansion of Afghan physical infrastructure. In 2009 there were 93,000 soldiers and 77,000 police. Now there are 200,000 soldiers and 149,000 police.

The number of American military killed is not a measure of the country's stability. Nor is it a measure of success in rebuilding infrastructure. It only takes a few Taliban/al-Qaeda operatives to kill many NATO soldiers, making it look like the training has been a failure, but unless a significant portion of the Afghan police/military are operatives, then that intended goal of the Afghan surge has been successful.

Frum's question is irrelevant because it moves the goal posts.

After a lengthy “custody battle,” the activists agreed to share the van with Cohen through the end of the summer and then hand it over to him on Monday.

“He didn’t want to have to bother with the messy part of being in a democracy,” said Mark Read, the activist who initially proposed The Illuminator idea and helped operate it.

I wonder how much that relates to the arrest of one of Ahmadinejad's media flacks back in Iran at around the same time Ahmadinejad was in NYC for the General Assembly.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s top press adviser was taken into custody to begin serving a six-month jail sentence after being convicted of publishing material deemed insulting to the country’s supreme leader.

Ali Akbar Javanfekr, who is also the head of the state-run IRNA news agency, is one of dozens of Ahmadinejad’s allies detained since April 2011 in the fallout from a political feud between the president and the country’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran’s hardline political establishment slapped down Ahmadinejad and his supporters after the president briefly challenged an order from the country’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei over the choice of intelligence chief.

The semiofficial Fars news agency said judicial agents detained Javanfekr late Wednesday. IRNA said Javanfekr was arrested as Ahmadinejad, who had shielded his press adviser in the past from arrest, began his speech at the U.N. General Assembly in New York.

That's just another round in the longstanding power play between Ahmadinejad and the Guardian Council and Supreme Leader, and the cameraman may have wanted no part of what was waiting for him upon his return to Iran after the General Assembly visit.

Bachmann Warns Obama May be Aiding the Rise of Global Sharia Law

Bachmann: It almost sounds like he’s trying to speak as “‘Emperor of the World,’ telling the world what to do, as opposed to being the President of the United States who should be adamant and say it’s outrageous that these Islamist countries should be calling on the United States to take away the constitutional protections of the American people. This is very important to think that the United States would restrict speech of Americans. Now the president did talk in his remarks about the fact that we do have a constitutional right to free speech but really the only focus of that speech should have been under no circumstances will the United States ever subvert the Constitution to Sharia law. We didn’t get that kind of a forceful statement from our President.

Mefferd: No and that goes back to the day right after the consulate attack I think Mitt Romney did so much better than the President himself and saying we’re Americans, we believe in free speech, this was unacceptable. From Obama, it was sort of a ‘Chris Stevens was a really great guy’ and that was about it.

Bachmann: It was; it was ridiculous. Here we’ve been attacked, these were acts of war, what happened to us in Cairo, what happened to us in Libya, these were acts of war. Again, don’t forget these fifty-seven Muslim governments have a ten year plan: their goal is to criminalize speech against Islam. Why? Because they intend to establish a Caliphate, an Islamic government, across the entire world so that it isn’t just our speech rights that we would give up, we would have to give up all rights eventually and we would have to conform to Sharia law, the Islamic law. As women know, this would be a disaster for women, for freedom, for free speech. We’re not an Islamic nation, people can believe whatever they want to believe here, but we’re not an Islamic nation, we believe in freedom and I only wish our President would articulate American values. That’s one thing we’re getting from Mitt Romney, we are not getting it from Barack Obama. I’ll say it again, I believe he is the most dangerous president we have ever had on foreign policy and for that reason alone he must not have a second term.

I am so not going to miss her when she's defeated for her congressional seat. Unfortunately, I just know that Fox probably has a show just waiting for her or if not that will at least have her as a frequent guest.

Like it or not his arrest & prosecution serves as a further distraction from the real roots of the attack. Which we apparently got the better briefing on from the President of Libya.

(CBS News) About 50 arrests have been made in connection with the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi in which the American Ambassador and three other consulate employees were killed, and some of the suspects involved are from outside the country, Libya's president told CBS News.

In an interview for "Face the Nation" Sunday, President Mohamed Magariaf also said that evidence "leaves us with no doubt" that the attack was pre-planned.

"It was planned, definitely, it was planned by foreigners, by people who entered the country a few months ago, and they were planning this criminal act since their arrival," he told Bob Schieffer.

On the same program, however, U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice said the U.S. has no evidence proving that the attacks in Benghazi were premeditated.

How 'bout this, David Frum is a willfully obtuse ass.
His list of questions confirms this.

Yes, a list of questions in which Frum demonstrates he's desperate to get back into the good graces of the far right, but will do it through implication rather than owning his newly re-found conservatism.

When are they going to go the conspiracist full monty and start accusing Obama of being in league with lizard aliens from the fifth dimension? It's already out there on the fringe, and the GOP has a habit of bringing the lunatic fringe into the mainstream.

So you buy the idea the attack was all about the movie? Pretty interesting that ordinary protesters would have heavy weapons like RPG's. That statement makes the new president look weak. Not terribly self serving when you consider that.

how would it hurt him to back the movie theory?

It's quite possible the 'evidence' is sufficient for Magarief but doesn't meet the level for evidence required by the US. Would you rather the US reaction be based on substantive evidence or on conjecture?

DNA evidence exonerates 300th prisoner nationwide

He unsuccessfully appealed his conviction in 1999, arguing that he was coerced into giving a false, unrecorded confession after being interrogated for nine hours by Jefferson Parish sheriff's investigators. He also said that there was insufficient evidence to convict him and that he did not receive a fair trial.

"This is a tragic illustration of why law enforcement must record the entire interrogation of any witness or potential suspect in any investigation involving a serious crime," said one of Thibodeaux's attorneys, Steve Kaplan of the Minneapolis firm Fredrikson & Byron.

Perot ran a better campaign than Romney has.

For all his crazy, no one can say that the old coot didn't have ideas that he went on about at length. And we still have his legacy in the form of the Tea Party, since they're basically Perot voters.

I voted for him

Beck: It would take a miracle for Romney to win (not quite what he said but...)

But it is exactly the dire state of the campaign that is making Beck so confident because, as he said, "God is trying to make this so clear to us that, if it happens, it's His finger" as both Beck and Barton went on to credit Romney's deep spiritual life and compare him to George Washington:

If Romney wins, God is giving us the finger. Got it.

I figured that California had therapy for straight teenagers that would make them gay.

I happen to think the idea it was a long pre planned attack was obvious. Just from the date and the severity of the attack. But hey opinions vary.

I'd rather wait until the evidence is in. It's likely it was a planned attack, but I appreciate the US taking the time to verify that before sounding off.

It's easy to find things obvious in hindsight as opposed to in the heat of the moment when you're trying to figure out wtf just happened.

It's hard to tell. I think he'd be fine with a Dem controlled congress, more open to comprimise once in office. But with Republicans in control of both houses there's no telling what kind of nonsense he'd sign into law. I'm much more worried about congressional Republicans that I am concerned with Mitt.

I could have written that exact same post. I think he'd be a fine decent President with a Democratic House and Senate. But with the Tea Party running the House, I don't think Mitt would be strong enough to counter their extremism.
