Obama’s Support Among Latino Voters: 73%

Self-deportation
Politics • Views: 36,759

With Mitt Romney’s talk of “self-deportation,” his endorsement of Arizona’s anti-immigrant SB1070 law as a model for the nation, his employment of far right nativist Kris Kobach as an advisor, and his condescending joke about having a “better shot at winning” if he were Latino, this new poll from Latino Decisions should come as no surprise: Poll: Obama Tops 70 Percent Support Among Latinos.

The poll shows Obama earning the support of 73 percent of Latino voters, while Romney trails with the support of only 21 percent.  It’s the first time Obama has exceeded 70 percent in the six weeks that Latino Decisions has conducted its tracking surveys.  This week’s installment also shows that more than 70 percent of Latino voters trust Obama over Romney on issues related to the economy, women, the Middle East and Latin America.

This election is turning into a referendum on right wing racism and xenophobia.

These numbers don't feel right. When you sample them properly and only poll Latino voters who are likely to vote Republican, Romney's support shoots to almost 50%.

How is self-deportation supposed to work?

And did the RW survey all of the illegals to see if they'd kindly self-deport?

Mitt Romney on Latinos:

“My dad, as you probably know, was the governor of Michigan and was the head of a car company. But he was born in Mexico… and had he been born of, uh, Mexican parents, I’d have a better shot at winning this. But he was unfortunately born to Americans living in Mexico. He lived there for a number of years. I mean, I say that jokingly, but it would be helpful to be Latino.”

You make it so uncomfortable that they decide to leave on their own.

Mitt Romney successfully used this tactic to get rid of one of his gay staff members.

Maybe one of Mitt's grandfathers wives were Latino. Would that make her his step-grandma? In polygamist family's that must be hard to keep track of.

1. Spend money creating and enforcing laws that permit denial of basic services to suspected undocumented people, as well as incarcerate them.
2. Spend more money on legal defenses when implementation of these laws leads to civil suits stemming from civil liberties violations, wrongful arrests, and the occasional wrongful death.
3. Spend more money paying Corrections Corporation of America to incarcerate actual undocumented people for several months/years while the deportation papers get completed.
4. ...
5. Profit!

Ryan: I Didn’t Explain Tax Math Because People Would Change The Channel

Paul Ryan defended his refusal to go into the specifics of Mitt Romney's tax plan during a Sunday interview, saying on Monday that he likes Fox News host Chris Wallace too much to turn off his viewers by talking math.

“I like Chris,” Ryan told Wisconsin radio host Charlie Sykes Monday, via the Washington Post. ”I didn’t want to get into all the math of this because everybody would start changing the channel.”

No matter what, just strike the first one you see with a water bottle... A cop gets sprayed with water (oh, it hurts! I'm melting, I'm melting!!) by a guy, just outside the picture. That's bad news for his party as a whole going forward. Of course, they'll make the same claims about Latinos and support for the Democratic Party that they do with African Americans whilst they ignore the fact that their own ignorance and know nothing attitudes are a big contributing factor.

In other words it's immaterial. It still leaves us with overreaction by an officer to an event done by someone else.

I still can't really tell. She's obviously jumping around, screaming, and causing a nuisance. Unlike the cop, she refrained from punching anyone in the face and dropping them. So she wins the self-control comparison.

Seriously, this was really dangerous. That kind of shit can start a riot. The cops can only police with the consent of the majority of the crowd. Not all the riot gear in the world can change that.

Yep. Probably silly string. Doesn't look anything came out though and we're just seeing a burst of remaining gas. Lets out a short burst jumping up and down. Cop next to her noticed and blew it off. Seconds later the guy in black throws the water at the cops and second later she gets punched for that.

Here's a law enforcement brutality case, I think.

A Border Patrol agent shot and killed a 32-year-old woman in Chula Vista, California, on Friday, but some witness accounts of the fatal shooting differ from those of the government agency.

According to Border Patrol, the agent fired into the windshield of Valeria Alvarado's car after she hit him with her vehicle and drove several hundred feet with the agent on the hood. "Fearing for his life, he discharged his weapon to get the vehicle to stop," Border Patrol Deputy Chief Rodney Scott told U-T San Diego.

At the time of the encounter, the agent was in the process of serving a felony warrant, but the warrant was not for Alvarado. It remains unclear why Alvarado struck the agent. He was dressed in plainclothes and at least one witness near the scene did not see his badge displayed.

After the shooting, U-T San Diego reported conflicting accounts from witnesses. One man recalled seeing the agent on the hood as he pulled the trigger, while several others said differently.

[...]

Even if he was in fear for his life, which is under dispute, did he need 5 to 10 bullets to stop the car? And how does killing the driver make sure the car is going to stop, anyway?

Enter a young woman who just happens to be the nearest person holding a water bottle. First reaction? Strike until she bleeds!! No asking what, just strike! I know it's hard to be a cop in this circumstances but here... Just one fucking bastard!~

Video here.

Sure, if it turns out it was PURE CAPSAICIN MONKEY GLAND BUTT POISON, then things are different. But I doubt it. It's probably just another case of a cop flipping out.

Bottom line is that if that cop wanted to punch somebody it would be that guy in the black shirt and shorts and not her. Even then it would have been an inappropriate response. She's got a case to file suit.

I can hardly believe it, but the big thing on Fox and every single right wing blog in unison is OBAMA LIED ABOUT LIBYAN TERRORISM! Here's the GOP response to the discovery of the fraud:

Republicans in El Paso County claimed that the video was recorded more than a month ago by a Democratic "campaign operative" and has been released now to damage the Romney campaign. But, Christy Lelait, Chairman for the El Paso County Democrats denies that charge to KOAA. "It's an interesting charge. I don't know of any campaign operatives here in El Paso County and I know for certain that the woman who shot this video is not a campaign operative, she's a volunteer with several different organizations including the El Paso Democratic Party and she's also a precinct chair."

STAVER: The California governor and legislature are putting their own preconceived notions and political ideology ahead of children and their rights to get access to counseling that meets their needs. A number of minors who have struggled with same-sex attraction have been able to reduce or eliminate the stress and conflicts in their lives by receiving counseling of their choice which best meets their needs and religious convictions. This bill will harm children, stress families, and place counselors in a catch-22, because they will be forced to violate their licensing ethical codes.

Not only is there no research to support his claim that children benefit from ex-gay therapy, which actually adds to the stigma LGBT youth experience, but there is an epidemic of homeless youth because of family rejection, which the false promise of conversion therapy reinforces. Christopher Rosik, president of the ex-gay professional network NARTH, has promised the organization will support the legal challenge:

ROSIK: NARTH is saddened but not surprised by this unprecedented legislative intrusion and will lend its full support to the legal efforts to overturn it. [...] We fully anticipate that activist groups like Equality California will be back next year to see what further erosions of parental rights and professional judgment politicians and mental health associations will authorize in California and other states. Counselors adhering to traditional values cannot be blamed for wondering what other practices disliked by these activists are going to be targeted as “unprofessional conduct” in the future, particularly in states that have legalized same-sex marriage.

You know I...I may be wrong, but I'm not sure Jesus would be cool with that.

T]he health care plan will offend plaintiffs’ religious beliefs only if an [] employee (or covered family member) makes an independent decision to use the plan to cover counseling related to or the purchase of contraceptives. Already, [plaintiffs] pay salaries to their employees—money the employees may use to purchase contraceptives or to contribute to a religious organization. By comparison, the contribution to a health care plan has no more than a de minimus impact on the plaintiff’s religious beliefs than paying salaries and other benefits to employees.

Why do some people refuse to face facts? The psychiatrists have figured out why - some information is processed in a way that it becomes sticky (their term):

Here’s the delicious irony of this post: Some of you will disagree with the content. Strongly. Vehemently. Passionately.
Angrily.

You are wrong, according to the facts. Yet you maintain a death-grip mental hold on some untrue myths. And you refuse to surrender your unshakable belief – even when evidence is presented to the contrary.

Why? Well, it’s basically how our brains work when it comes to persuasive urban legends and fabrications that perfectly suit our worldviews, according to a new report published in Psychological Science in the Public Interest, a journal for the Association for Psychological Science. Simply put: it’s cognitively easier for our minds to trust a lie – if it supports our deepest convictions – than it is to reject information that requires some mental sweat to assess.

The report, which explains why some pieces of misinformation are so “sticky,” was authored by a cognitive scientist and three psychology professors.

[Federal religious freedom law] is a shield, not a sword. It protects individuals from substantial burdens on religious exercise that occur when the government coerces action one’s religion forbids, or forbids action one’s religion requires; it is not a means to force one’s religious practices upon others. [It] does not protect against the slight burden on religious exercise that arises when one’s money circuitously flows to support the conduct of other free-exercise-wielding individuals who hold religious beliefs that differ from one’s own.

WALLACE: If, just suppose, that the doubters are right, President Romney takes office and the math doesn’t add up.

RYAN: First of all, we’ve run the numbers, I’ve run them in Congress, they do. We’ve got about five other studies that show that you can do this.

WALLACE: OK, but let’s assume it doesn’t. The question is, what’s more important to Romney? Would he scale back on the 20 percent tax cut for the wealthy? Would he scale back and say, OK, you know, we’re going to have to raise taxes for the middle class? I guess the question is what’s most important to him in his tax reform plan?

RYAN: Keeping tax rates down. By lowering tax rates, people keep more of the next dollar that they earn. That matters. That is incentives. That’s pro-growth policy. That creates 7 million jobs. And what should go first...

WALLACE: So that’s more important than...

RYAN: That’s more important than anything. And more importantly, it’s not what deductions are in the tax code but it’s who gets them.

Low taxes for the wealthy: officially more important than whatever whatever deficit thingbobber.

For Republican strategists wondering why “You didn’t build that” wasn’t enough to push Mitt Romney into a lead while “47 percent” is breaking through, Haley Barbour may have answer for you.

Barbour’s firm Resurgent Republic conducted focus groups of blue collar voters in Ohio and suburban women in Virginia who supported Obama in 2008 but are now undecided. Both are swing demographics that Romney is working to win over in order to flip each state from blue to red.

Their findings? Voters are a lot more willing to believe attacks based around Romney quotes than they are on Obama quotes.

“Whenever we showed direct quotes from President Obama over the last few years, voters consistently say that this is probably taken out of context and they don’t seem to hold that same standard with Governor Romney,” pollster Linda DiVall, who conducted the Virginia focus groups, said in a conference call announcing the findings Monday.

The official Mitt Romney Campaign Theme

Eve 6 - Leech

Tell those stories to me
I'm dying to hear the things you've done and seen
Farfetched as they may be
You strike a smile in me
Your stories ring of perjury
Construed with self empowering theme

Suckin' on my brain you're the teacher I'm the student
Turning things around your story's not congruent
Tabloid decoys pitiful excuses
Turning things around
You're turning things around

A manic stunning scene
I'm taking notes your taking me away into your false reality
I know your comfort lies in lying to try to make your life make sense
But you're not making sense
With your two cents, you're...

Suckin' on my brain you're the teacher I'm the student
Turning things around your story's not congruent
Tabloid decoys pitiful excuses
Turning things around
You're turning things around

I'd say it aloud but I'm not allowed
I see your head spin round and round

Broken record talk tonight
Skip that needle back and forth on your mind
Wearing out unconvincing lies
Like a seedling dropped from an old oak tree
Your shade don't hide no sun from me
Fake stories humor me
It's graduation time
I love you like a mother

Suckin' on my brain your the teacher I'm the student
Turning things around your story's not congruent
Tabloid decoys pitiful excuses
Turning things around
You're turning things around

Daily Kos Labor digest: Workers at Walmart-contracted warehouse strike

183 Kragar  Mon, Oct 1, 2012 3:00:43pm

Walmart Heirs Have As Much Wealth As Bottom 40 Percent Of Americans Combined

Concretely, between 2007 and 2010, while median family wealth fell by 38.8 percent, the wealth of the Walton family members rose from $73.3 billion to $89.5 billion…In 2007, it was reported that the Walton family wealth was as large as the bottom 35 million families in the wealth distribution combined, or 30.5 percent of all American families.

And in 2010, as the Walton’s wealth has risen and most other Americans’ wealth declined, it is now the case that the Walton family wealth is as large as the bottom 48.8 million families in the wealth distribution (constituting 41.5 percent of all American families) combined.

AND retained good employees, and got company loyalty on top of that. AND been known as a great company to work for. WTF? Again.

Beck: Pelosi and Biden are not Catholics and Should Leave the Church

Don't tolerate someone who is not teaching Catholic doctrine. Go to your Bishop, go to your Cardinal, go to whoever will listen to you, but don't tolerate it!

I don't understand how, for instance, Nancy Pelosi can say she's a Catholic or Joe Biden can say he's a Catholic but he stands against what the Pope is saying. I've got news for you, if the Pope is telling you this is the doctrine of the church; if you disagree with it, go find another one and be who you really are!

A Necessary Move for Christians in America

There does not exist a reliable political party that purely represents the overall Christian agenda in America. We can neither ignore the overwhelming contrast to our Godly principles of the marriage equality and abortion rights agendas, which the Democrats strongly support, nor can we be oblivious to the arrogant, greedy, unsympathetic Pharisaic practices of the Republicans.

There will be a Press Conference to officially announce the establishment of the New Independent Christian Party on October 5, 2012 at 7:00pm at the Kingdom Empowerment Business Center, 3512 Bladensburg RD, Brentwood, MD 20722.

Walmart Heirs Have As Much Wealth As Bottom 40 Percent Of Americans Combined

This is part of my problem with the whole 47% BS Romney was spouting. When workers wages are so low that they qualify for public assistance, what is actually happening is that the government is subsidizing the company by paying a portion of their employees' wages. If the 1% don't want their employees on public assistance, they need to pay them more fucking money so they don't need it.

If the 1% don't want their employees on public assistance, they need to pay them more fucking money so they don't need it.

While this is true, in a lot of cases even a pitifully low wage is considered too HIGH for assistance programs, leaving a lot of people on the outside.

If you worked 40 hours a week full time at minimum wage you'd be lucky to clear $1000 per month after deductions and that doesn't even include any health insurance premiums.

Heck rent, food and gas alone will eat up that whole $1000 FAST.

But where the's money for clothing, non-food common items (toilet paper, paper towels, toiletries, etc), utilities (typically NOT included in rent), car insurance, etc.

Even if you work a full time job AND a part time job and put in 60 hours a week (40 at one and 20 at the other) you'd still be lucky to come away with $1500/month (which equals a yearly rate of $18000). Now you might be able to keep your head barely above water at $1500/month but you'd have no room for any kind of savings, nor extra funds for any emergencies that may arise.

When the notion of raising the minimum wage comes up, the corporate side always comes back with: "that will just force us to raise prices and cut into our profit margins" and since the corporations virtually own the government, they get their way.

I think it's pretty obvious that companies see their employees as just another ledger item that can be cut at will in the quest for greater profits. This is why full time positions are disappearing in favor of part time or temp jobs. This is why insurance and other benefits are either being scaled back or eliminated. This is why employees are expected to constantly increase productivity without any promise of wage increases or other reward for doing so.
