There are parts of the choir that need some preachin'. Many people thought Obama blew the debate. Seeing him use the ammo he gathered there might cheer them up.

Maybe not. It could play well with those impressionable folk who were taken in by Mitt's debate performance. Some of them are probably feeling a twinge of buyer's remorse, which is often the case after dealing with a slick salesman. This encourages and magnifies that doubt by making Mr. Slick look ridiculous.

I needed a genuine laugh after the past couple of weeks of dealing with several friends/family members having serious and life-threatening medical situations, and that was it.
Those situations aren't any better, but they haven't gotten worse either. It's pretty much SNAFU and while hospital staff has been incredible, there are limits to what they can do when patient mental health issues can disrupt treatment options. It's one of the reasons I've been increasingly sparse here and on my blog; I just don't have time to post or comment as I usually have done over the years (and doubly so in election years).
17 | AK-47% Tue, Oct 9, 2012 9:50:52am |
PBS has an interest in not appearing partisan in this debate, they are supposed to be neutral. It is like GM asking that they not be mentioned in the course of discussing the economy.
19 | Big Steve Tue, Oct 9, 2012 9:55:21am |
These ads are a waste of money. The only thing Obama can do to get this election back on track is win the next debate or at least have it be a tie so that his supporters can have safe harbor to support him. This he certainly will do and if he does he will be back safely in the lead.

Ironically, Sesame Street is probably the one program on PBS big enough to stand on its own in a privately run environment. The real loss would be the more obscure documentaries, educational shows and REAL reality-based television alternatives to Honey Boo Boo.

I like the ad, it is funny and well done.
But I think the Obama campaign is spending too much time on the Big Bird issue.
There are very serious problems that need to be addressed.
Romney gave them a ton of material in the debate and in his FP speech.
While de-funding of PBS is indicative of republicans approach to the deficit, this attention to BB seems a bit frivolous to me at a time when things are deadly serious. I hope they move on.

re: #19 Big Steve
Nate Silver's take on the polls would seem to indicate that the shrieking class of despondent Democrats needs to calm down; the polls weren't as bad as they were thinking, and the effect still leaves Obama in the lead. Fixation on a single poll or single round of polling ignores the longer trends, which is that Romney is still pretty much trailing in most locations and if that holds, then Obama wins reelection (in which case the shrieking will be ever louder from the other side of the aisle). A good debate showing would stabilize things but would it really energize the uncertain percentage that is holding out on their preferences? I'm not so sure. It will come back to the economy - and on that front, the figures are trending in Obama's favor.

Not entirely, it is a subtle way of reminding us of the fact that Romney is very, very close to the people who wrecked our economy and would let them run roughshod over it again in the name of Free Market and Deregulation.

It was Romney who brought Big Bird into this, and he did so in a substantial sense, as the chosen example of something he would cut from the budget. Exposing and highlighting the absurd and frivolous nature of this statement is not, in itself, absurd and frivolous. Exactly. The "fiscal conservatives" always seem to do this. Complain and freak the hell out over anything that is for the public good,or benefits the public in some way. Meanwhile, let's not look at the cost of those giant tax cuts and loopholes that cost the nation far more than a couple of really well thought out and well run public programs.

It's not hate, they don't give a single fuck about us at all. This is about the people that the GOP really represents wanting out of the social contract that built this country starting with the New Deal under FDR.

I do wonder if there might be a little backlash to the Romneyentum. I was chatting with my mother, who's as much an Obama hating Fox News junkie as there ever could exist, and mentioned to her if she's ready for Romney as President. She just sat there and went... well... I don't know about that either.
Maybe I'll convince her to vote Libertarian yet. :)
But the general gist I'm getting from some of my conservative friends has been, Obama is easy to hate on when he's going to win, but when Romney starts gaining ground and it looks like Romney might have a real shot, Well, suddenly they're not quite so sure.
Which isn't the reaction I expected.

Hell, I say they want to go back further than that given their resentment of Wilson and Teddy Roosevelt. They're full of shit anyhow. They have this mythical idea that before the rise of progressivism in early 20th century that this country was "free." They neglect to mention that before that era, children were forced to work, workers worked practically to death and unable to organize, and women and minorities with little to no say in government. Their belief in America is of a myth they've created.

Yeah, people decry the ad as silly but let's look at Romney. He thinks Wall Street needs less regulations but Sesame Street needs to be cut off even though it makes up a shit little part of the overall budget. His priorities are skewed big time and I think that ad hits on this.

Romney Press Releases Cites Tax Policy Center They Attacked As “Biased” And “Liberal”
In a press release today, the Romney campaign cites an article that ran in The Hill prominently citing the non-partisan think tank the Tax Policy Center to hit President Obama on how his policies have effected farmers. The Romney campaign, as recently as Sunday, was calling the Center “a liberal think tank” for saying Romney's tax plan would increase have to increase taxes on lower and middle income people to pay for his plan. The Romney previously called the Center's study “just another biased study from a former Obama staffer.” The Center also found that Romney's plan would increase the deficit.

I'm not sure how people fight that sort of deeply entrenched cultural crazy. But that's what has to happen. People are sadly going to die doing it because that kind of power won't go quietly or gently. It takes a revolution,in the truest sense of the word. I'm not sure outside intervention is the answer either because that doesn't seem to work,it gets corrupted and sidetracked too easily. Money gets funneled off,aid gets diverted where it's not supposed to and so on. It freaking sucks that people can be so hateful and violent and for what?

[Link: www.foxnews.com...]
Not only is the Fox spin on the story ridiculous, but Fox actually has it as its front page lead news headline on its web page -- which logically would mean that Fox considers it the most important news event of the moment.
But since the video is really funny, if you want to laugh at it later as well as now, you might want to download a copy of it in case it really does disappear from YouTube.
