Cleaning bedroom is trending. I'm thinking of making a breakfast sandwich for dinner. whooooo.

Watching premier of Walking Dead. For the first time in my memory they are showing a premier on the west coast in the same time as the east coast.

Pretty impressive.

My bedroom needs cleaning, but you see, the rest of the house requires cleaning as well, and other people see that part.

Finished my first run thru last night, only had one Psyker. Kind of anticlimactic. Mind controlled a Muton and charged him in as a scout, the last room agroed and the Ethereal charged forward and got cut down in reaction fire.

Imani/ABL just put it up on her site and Balloon Juice, but ex-South Carolina Gov Mark Sanford said about the second debate, "Obama’s going to come out in this case much more forcefully, and he’s going to throw a lot of spears."

That's more of a fog horn than a dog whistle. Sheesh.

That's all I have right now, remarkably she's one of only two that's been around since pretty much the beginning. The first bought it in the Overseer attack, and the second died because she missed the second shot against an Ethereal. 75% chance to hit and she missed it at close range. Never have I wanted so much to throw a computer out the window.

They're controlled by a virus in their brains that triggers electrical impulses to their muscles. A hit to the brain severs the nerves. This was 'splained in season 1 CDC visit.

1. They've shown them siphoning other cars occasionally, though that doesn't take into account that gas doesn't stay good for that long.

2. These zombies come back when the virus or whatever causes some minimal brain activity, so killing the brain still works.

Kragar answered 1 and 2.

The main thing to realize about The Walking Dead is that the title doesn't refer to the zombies. It refers to the survivors. The zombies themselves are an ever-present danger, but the real threat comes from all the other survivors that you meet.

The Walking Dead is very much a Romero-style zombie apocalypse. The virus or whatever it is reanimates even those who die from means other than bites, the struggle is more against other humans than the walkers, and overarching theme is surviving in a world where humanity is no longer the top of the food chain.

It turns out the 'Big Bad' in the movie is the first truly powerful Psyker (though the power is called telekenisis), so strong as to be able to cause someone's heart to be crushed simply by willing it. When I saw that it kind of made a 40K connection for me, especially as the mild version of the power is presented as a kind of limited 'step up' for humans.

Depending on the source material in question, the general consensus is a viral zombie will survive for about 5 years before it wears itself to nothing. The virus infecting the host kills off the normal bacteria and insects which would naturally decompose the corpse.

Taliban unhappy with press coverage of their assassination attempt on 14 year old girl. Taliban plans attacks on media
Taliban plan attacks on media outlets, journalists

According to sources, the Taliban felt that the media has become biased against them and was giving ‘undue’ coverage to the attack on Malala and portraying them as the ‘worst people on earth’.

The militants were reported to have held meetings and decided to suspend all their current operations and activities in the country and directed field comman

ders and fighters to divert their attention towards media organisations instead of the government and security forces.

In this regard, the sources said, the militants had selected12 suicide bombers and tasked them to target media organisations, particularly the electronic media and some foreign media organisations and their workers, in Peshawar, Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi and wherever they found them.

“The suicide bombers have particularly been directed to target offices, vehicles and journalists individually who had become a party and were issuing fatwas or decrees against the Taliban,” TTP sources said.

The comic book treats everything very Romero-esque, so the bites don't transmit a virus so much as cause a massive infection from bacteria in the zombie's saliva. Remember that a person's mouth is not the cleanest thing in the world, a dead one's even less so.

During the first year not everyone was infected and the virus was deadly. The CDC visit tried to explain it all, but I missed some of it. I'll have to re-watch that episode.

That's the signature tactic of a morally bankrupt insurgency; When they get caught having done something hideous, their reaction is to attack those who call it hideous. Sadly, Pakistan being Pakistan, it may well work. It's not really that hard to kill a reporter over there, and most people become far less willing to speak the truth once its been demonstrated that there are people willing and able to kill you for doing so. It's even worse for news agencies, as they have offices that in many cases cannot be adequately hardened against a VBIED.

Zombie movies always scared me too much to enjoy. I only started to appreciate the genre after seeing 28 Days.

28 Days later was good. 28 Weeks later was utter and complete crap.

The original "Return of the Living Dead" always freaked me out because they had unkillable zombies. The zombies were intelligent, individual parts would keep coming, and if you burned them, the ashes could be used to reanimate more corpses.

Unfortunately, it sounds like they took the name and pretty much tossed the plot. The film's also had massive behind-the-scene problems and undergone extensive re-shoots, so any WWZ fans should probably dial their hopes way back.

Not always. Consider Ebola, which basically liquifies your innards. It worked in humans for so long due to causing the victim to bleed out, spreading the infection to others when they tried to render assistance or cleanse the body for burial.

Most zombie films that deal with viruses take the bent that the purpose of creating a zombie is the virus creating an ambulatory carrier in order to actively seek out new hosts.

That uses the ES strategy of spreading quickly through blood contact. Most viruses use a different ESS. It's amazing how many strategies there are out there.

I'm actually planning to use one of the 'Rules' from The Village as a tagline for an upcoming Battletech game. The scenario is set on a wintery part of the planet Engadine, home to a nightmarish 3 meter tall pack predator called the Nolan. The heavy machine guns (HMGs) made sense from a standpoint of continuous fire, though in reality they likely would have failed due to overheating prior to running out of ammo.

I did like the MG turrets on the Hammer, but its a scene that really made me want a World War II bomber movie, so that such a scene would be in its original place. The aircraft scene from Tron: Legacy made me feel the same way. I'd like a movie about a B-25 or A-26 crew during WWII, so audiences could see the origin of such scenes.

It's also because, as the main hero, his armor is distinctive and thus as much a part of the character. There's a limit to the customization of mechs if you intend to mass-produce them, as you would need to for a military force of any significant size.

Yes, really. Had Nixon not ruined his credibility, he would likely have been able to keep aid flowing to South Vietnam, as well as maintain the threat of air strikes if North Vietnam attacked the South again. That would have given Vietnamization a chance to work. By 1972 the Vietnam War was far more conventional than it had been in 1968, as the Viet Cong had been mostly destroyed in the Tet Offensive. The ARVN had a good chance to repel conventional offensives if they were properly supported. But Nixon threw away that chance along with his presidency, thrown away through mendacity and cluelessness to the point of stupidity.

I think its fair to say that without Watergate, Nixon would have been remembered as one of the more noted President to have served, looking at his work with China, setting up the EPA and other environmental acts, work in Vietnam, etc.

Instead, we had Watergate and his legacy went to crap.

I thought it was that they were twins, and the other brother hides in the second cabinet.

Neo was a honeypot to trap hackers in the DMZ of the Machine Civilizations network so they could develop antivirus software to eliminate the Agent Smith rootkit.

I gave up on that series with the second film. I knew it was a bad sign when I fell asleep in the theater during the rave scene and didn't wake up until about 20 minutes before the end.

Never bothered to re-watch the second film and I've never seen the third.
