In Other GOP Racist News, Disgraced Gov. Mark Sanford Says Obama Will ‘Throw a Lot of Spears’

Yet another totally not-racist Republican politician
Wingnuts • Views: 32,624

It’s a racism two-fer today; not only are white conservatives laughing about sending Barack Obama “back to Kenya,” former Gov. Mark Sanford predicted on Fox News (where else?) that at the next debate, Obama will “throw a lot of spears.”

Former South Carolina Governor and Fox News contributor Mark Sanford wandered off the Appalachian Trail again Sunday morning when, in yet another completely isolated example of a Republican being totally-not-racist even though he sounds racist, said that President Obama is going to “come out and throw a lot of spears” at Tuesday’s upcoming debate.

You know, ever since Coulter ran off at the mouth about how OJ's acquittal being the end of "white guilt," I've found myself wondering if she's got the date set a little too far back. I honestly think that a lot of wingnuts and Republican politicians viewed Obama's election as the end of a need to be PC. That a black man in the White House meant they could be as racist as they liked again with an excuse that his election meant white people had "gotten over" their "guilt."

I see a trend here.

Why just the other day some other Republican was saying how fortunate it was for American blacks to have been slaves.

Jesus Christ, they're not even trying to hide the white sheets and burning crosses anymore.

I have to admit, I can't wait for the the conservative spin on this one. I'm sure "I had no idea that 'spear chucker' was an offensive racial slur" will be galloping to the front of the pack in not time.

Followed by some conservative saying that I'm putting words in Sanford's mouth because he didn't exactly use the phrase "spear chucker".

By continuing to support the Republicans, even down to local races, you (and those like you) are enabling and emboldening shitheads like these.

I'm not saying that you have to run out and register as a Democrat, but right now, like it or not, the Democrats, as a national party, are the only halfway sane alternative that is able to compete with the GOP right now (sorry, third parties).

Believe me, they couldn't give a flying shit about fixing any problems. The whole idea of calling themselves "independent" (I know a few Dem voters who do the same as well) is to avoid any and call discussion and confrontation on any specific issues. That's all it is. lastest poll is a ABC News/Washington Post Poll. Oct. 10-13, 2012, showing obama at 49% and romney at 46%

a little arithmetic shows that when this poll is added to the real clear politics avg, and assuming that rass and gallup hold steady tomorrow at romney 2 pts ahead, this will narrow romney's lead from 1.3% to .8%

but, like the red wheel barrow glazed with rain water beside the white chickens, so much depends on the debate next tuesday

Pretty much. A lot of them think the idea of "white guilt" is something only liberals believe in, that white people have nothing to be ashamed of because no black person alive today was ever a slave, and that society is cutting black people too much slack on the grounds that there's something to make up for. In their minds, the only way somebody like Obama could become president is because of his skin color, not because of who he is. He's not the "right kind" of black guy.

Not sure it could be said "better". It's ironic, in a way, but today's just a couple of weeks out from the election and the common lectionary pops up that gem of a lesson from Mark with the rich young ruler who asks Jesus what he needs to do to have eternal life. Jesus asks if he knows the commandments and the young guy says yes. Jesus, the text tells us, loves him and then goes all Franciscan on him and tells him to sell all his "stuff" and give it to the poor if he really wants to be saved. Rich guy can't hang.

There's a number of interpretations that are commonly used for this text, some closer to reality than others. Still it's pretty blatantly said that too much stuff you can't get rid of keeps you stuck and unable to move forward. I'm not sure there could be a better metaphor for the modern GOP than that.

Unless you mean a conservative black, who the fuck so they want. That's what's been so confusing for black people. Barack Obama is damn near perfect as a human being. If a majority of white people don't like him, then they don't like any black people.

That's part of what burns them up so much, that Barack Obama is everything they say they want black people to be: smart, hard-working, a good family man, and a patriotic American. But he's a liberal Democrat, so they have to believe that he's not "really" an American.

This is from the NT.. The "Don't be an anti-government nutjob" passage.

Romans 13:1-7

1 Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2 Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended. 4 For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. 5 Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience.

6 This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing. 7 Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.

"Do to others as you would have them do to you" leaps to mind. Of course, in their universe, the white man has been horribly discriminated against, lo these 4 years past, so maybe that's not such a great choice.

Isn't there a passage in the New Testament where Jesus says "Don't be a racist asswipe"?

I think the parable of the Good Samaritan was meant to nudge listeners in that direction, but since the modern audience wasn't raised to be bigoted against Samaritans, they sort of miss the point.

Oh, that is hysterical! Funny how you never hear Glenn Beck or Pat Robertson trot that one out.

Of course, I've been translating wingnut long enough to see how they'd spin that. Since Obama is obviously a Commie Foreign Muslim Atheist Socialist, his administration does not have the blessing of God. Therefore, it is okay to oppose him.

Kinda like how the 9-11 guys broke every rule in Wahhabism, under the theory that they were doing God's work undercover and he would forgive them.

That's part of what burns them up so much, that Barack Obama is everything they say they want black people to be: smart, hard-working, a good family man, and a patriotic American. But he's a liberal Democrat, so they have to believe that he's not "really" an American.

He brought his mother-in-law to live with them so she could help raise the girls, and the 'family values' wingnuts called it a ghetto thing to do and freaked out because she sometimes goes out in the evenings to see a show.

re: #69 dragonath

I wonder if the Biden debate had any influence on those numbers...

John Marshall over at TPM said Biden's job was fulfilled on Thursday, namely to get out there before the public what Democrats are offering in opposition to Romney/Ryan and to make the case for another 4 years in office. And he did so while getting Ryan to acknowledge, in some many words, that their plan is more smoke and mirrors than they've let on.

As the pro bono devil's advocate I would point out that the exclusion based on the "God's blessing" standard does not apply here as it is assumed that anyone who has ever won an election fair or unfair had God to thank or curse for the results.

early xtians of the gospel writing era were extremely concerned to represent themselves to romans as very loyal citizens who were definitely not going to make trouble. it is easy to forget that in the second half of the first century and well into the second, the jews from whom xtianity had sprung were mostly known to romans as troublemakers who had kicked the romans out and had to be reconquered in bloody campaigns not once but twice. thus the gospels go to considerable lengths to distance xtians from jews despite a certain amount of cognitive dissonance inherent in this

George Will: Too Big to Maintain?

If in four weeks a president-elect Mitt Romney is seeking a Treasury secretary, he should look here, to Richard Fisher, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. Candidate Romney can enhance his chance of having this choice to make by embracing a simple proposition from Fisher: Systemically important financial institutions (SIFIs), meaning too-big-to-fail (TBTF) banks, are “too dangerous to permit.”

Romney almost did this in the first debate when he said the Dodd-Frank Act makes TBTF banks “effectively guaranteed by the federal government” and constitutes “the biggest kiss that’s been given to — to New York banks I’ve ever seen.” Fisher, who has a flair for rhetorical pungency, is more crisp:

There are 6,000 American banks, but “half of the entire banking industry’s assets” are concentrated in five institutions whose combined assets amount to almost 60 percent of the gross domestic product. And “the top 10 banks now account for 61 percent of commercial banking assets, substantially more than the 26 percent of only 20 years ago.” The problems posed by “supersized and hypercomplex banks” may, Fisher says, require anti-obesity policies equivalent to “irreversible lap-band or gastric bypass surgery.” The land of TBTFs is “a perverse financial Lake Wobegon” where all crises are “exceptional,” justifying “unique” solutions that are the same — meaning bailouts. This incurs “the wrath of ordinary citizens and smaller entities that resent this favorable treatment, and we plant the seeds of social unrest.”

Fisher cites Andrew Haldane of the Bank of England who calculates this: The assumption that certain banks have implicit TBTF status gives them preferential access to investment capital. In 2009, these silent subsidies enjoyed by TBTFs worldwide approached $2.3 trillion in value. Haldane notes a parallel between financial systems and epidemiological networks: Normal epidemiology involves “focusing preventive action on ‘super-spreaders’ within the network to limit the potential for systemwide spread.”

Endorsing the axiom (attributed to Napoleon) that one should “never ascribe to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence,” Fisher says that TBTF banks “are sprawling and complex — so vast that their own management teams may not fully understand their own risk exposures, providing fertile ground for unintended ‘incompetence.’ ”

He's right, but its bit jarring when conservatives agree with the left on something. There's nothing for it, though. Too Big To Fail has been damaging for America and it needs to end.

Why is it jarring? It's SUPPOSED to work like that. This degree of polarization is abnormal and dysfunctional. It's why pretty much none of the various appointees Obama has put up have been or will be approved,so the offices are sitting vacant. It's why we have uproar over Libya and Fast and Furious(which, don't get me wrong are awful and horrendous things),but I'm still not hearing any plans from the GOP about job creation or fixing healthcare. The banking mess is just one more thing on the list of broken things the GOP is resistant to changing. Dodd/Frank is too nice,we need to go back to Glass/Stiegal. I've heard more than one member of the GOP bitch and moan about the new Consumer Protection Agency and they've tried over and over to vilify it and Elizabeth Warren who advocated like crazy for it.

When you have a party on freaking Inauguration Day meeting to make sure everyone in the party knew the sole goal was to make sure this president served one term only by stalling and filibustering and and doing whatever possible it took to stop positive change from occurring,I don't know how you can expect the other party to receive that as anything but hostile. There's politics and then there's GOVERNING,the GOP has decided the second one isn't their job anymore.

But those employees are voting against some of their interests if they vote for Obama, and I do not think it wrong to point that out.

Coming from someone who votes Republican, that's hilarious. The GOP actively fights against the interests of those Koch employees all the damn time. The Koch brothers? They'll cater to them. The people who actually work for the Koch brothers and who earn considerably less? Not so much.

It's also easy to talk about coal country when you don't live there and can't see the damage mining does to the air, land and water. Those miners could be trained and moved into other jobs,Koch and other companies are sitting on enough money to do that. The only people the Koch Brothers give two damns about are themselves. We're also seeing rich fucker lose their shit over having to pay Clinton era income taxes,a whopping 4 percent more at most. That is what most of this idiotic tantrum of theirs is about or at least what started it. Fuck them. They can forgo a weekly ass waxing or give up a solid gold bidet or something, they aren't going to be required to "sacrifice"anything if their taxes go up a couple percentage points or they lose a few loopholes. If they feel the need to fire people it's because those salaries cut into the amount of money they're hoarding for themselves.

[snip by Kirk]

Before I go on, I have to respond to this. Sorry, but you hit a counter-annoyance.

Yes, I now you're unhappy about the script reading, but here's the deal: it's there because people are idiots. It's there because the vast majority of difficulties can be solved - or at least sent to the right place to get solved - through the answers to that script. Yours is an exception? great, sorry it's taking so long, but it's this or sit on hold for hours while the people try to follow what the caller thinks is wrong.

And that last... One week, I had a rash of calls that turned out to be unplugged computers. Cleaning company had come through and a new guy/enthusiastic wanted-a-permanent-job-so-did-extra unplugged machines so he could get back and clean the dust from among the cord area. And forgot to plug about a third of them back in. (Great initiative, poor execution.)

Among the rash of calls were several from nominally computer type people who kept insisting there were a range of problems. "Oh, yeah." "Oops." You get the idea.

My annoyance on top of this is the ones who insist they've checked. I always enjoyed turning in those service tickets. "$xx for service call to personally conduct stage 1 tech support: plug in computer."

Muslims protest 'age of mockery' as thousands descend on Google HQ

A protest by 10,000 Muslims outside the offices of Google in London today is just the first in an orchestrated attempt to force the company to remove an anti-Islamic film from website YouTube in Britain.

Thousands had travelled from as far afield as Glasgow to take part in the demonstration, ahead of a planned million-strong march in Hyde Park in coming weeks.

Mostly in the Brit tabloids, daily mail, Sun, etc. Judging from the Telegraph video I think the 10,000 crowd estimate is way off. looks like maybe 1-2,000.

Report: CIA Arranged Bride for Terrorist in Plot to Kill Him

The CIA paid an al Qaeda spy $250,000 to help find a bride for American-born terrorist Anwar al Awlaki in a plot to locate and kill him, according to a report in the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten.
....
The report says the plot failed when the woman reached Yemen but was told by al Awlaki's aides to abandon her suitcase which had been bugged with tracking devices by the CIA without her knowledge.

Storm told the newspaper, "both of them would be killed in an American drone strike" if the CIA plan had succeeded.
...
Storm says even though the CIA plot failed, the marriage was a success.

Following al Awlaki's killing last year, Storm says the young woman wrote him to say she wanted to go on a suicide mission to avenge her husband's death but that al Qaeda leaders had decided against it.

The report says she now works with the al Qaeda on-line magazine "Inspire," which frequently featured the musings of her late husband, al Awlaki.

I have to post the stuff at the other end of the link, because its funny-good:

How to Talk to Your 38-Year-Old Son About Birtherism:

Sit your 38-year-old son down in a setting where he's comfortable, like the bar at Applebee's or a driving range.

Explain to your son that, despite what he may hear from the cool kids at the office or read on Facebook, President Obama was definitely born in the United States.

Be specific: mention the birth certificate, the hospital records, the newspaper announcements, etc. Don't worry about overwhelming your 38-year-old son with details, because, after all, he is 38 years old, and he should be able to handle it.

Be firm, but don't shame or chastise your 38-year-old son. Remember, he may very well determine whether or not you end up in a shitty nursing home.

Don't threaten to take away his Gameboy. He's 38 years old. Plus, we don't even think those exist anymore. It wouldn't make any sense.

Tell your 38-year-old son that you're still very proud of him. Give him a hug, then offer to take him out for ice cream. When he says that he wishes he could but he's "just really swamped right now," go get ice cream by yourself, because now you really want some ice cream anyway.

Credit to Dan Amira for a funny smackdown of an idiotic DERP!.

Not really. She's pretty open about her support for terrorism and her desire to become a suicide bomber. She's still active in Al Qaeda today so I think she's a fair target.

The above revision is not meant hostilely at GTJ, but as a way to amend that silly line to make it true. Islamists hate our freedom, our democratic society and civil rights. That we are Americans is secondary at most, because they hate all free societies, as they consider what we call proper freedom 'ungodly'.

As do our conservative Americans.

Depends on where you define "start". She opened herself up to be a person of interest by her willingness to join al qaeda and engage in "dangerous things". Once she traveled to Yemen and actually joined I think she becomes a fair drone target. Especially if she's in close proximity to al qaeda leadership. I don't see any reason to declare her off limits.

No. Anwar al Awlaki had directed a number of terror plots and was already responsible for a good number of deaths. If setting her up to die was the price of ending the clear and present danger he posed, then I have to call the price acceptable. It was extremely unfair to her, but in this case I find the wrong done outweighed by the greater wrong of letting al Awlaki live.

His reports are credible
The Danish biker and the trail that led to al Qaeda's most wanted

Among the evidence he's produced: recorded telephone conversations, passport stamps showing multiple trips to Yemen, correspondence with Awlaki, and a recording of a conversation with an unidentified American - who acknowledges his role in the pursuit of Awlaki.

His story is credible and he has evidence, the CIA isn't denying his story and they don't seem bothered that he's talking. I assume he has permission.

...and yes, this was an operation under the Obama regime's CIA
[Link: cphpost.dk...]

Working in close connection with the CIA in 2010, Storm helped to arrange the sending of a woman, ‘Aminah’, to Yemen as a bride for al-Awlaki. ‘Aminah’ was to unwillingly help locate and track al-Awlaki, who would then be targeted for assassination, with tracing equipment placed in her suitcase without her knowledge by PET. According to Storm, al-Awlaki was at the time looking for a wife who was more ‘Western’ than the two wives he already had.

Actually, I'm a bit older than that and I can't remember hearing "fruitcake" used as an anti-gay slur. "Fruit", certainly, but not "fruitcake", which to me has always meant "crazy person" (as in "nutty as a fruitcake"), not "gay person".

Maybe this is willfully ignorance on my part, but I don't think so. I could certainly list a whole passel of anti-gay slurs that I am aware of (but please don't make me). It may also be that, for whatever reason, I just don't travel in whatever circles use "fruitcake" this way.

This is not to excuse Chick-fil-A, by the way. Given the recent controversy over their support of anti-gay causes, and the closeness of "fruit" and "fruitcake", they could easily have figured out that they were treading on dangerous ground, even if they originally intended "fruitcake" entirely innocently.

I'm old enough, by the way, to remember the early episodes of M*A*S*H when there was a black character nicknamed "Spear Chucker". That didn't last long.

Chick-fil-A is a restaurant chain. If the 'fruitcake' remark was made by a politician or political activist, then I could see it as a slur. But what profit would a restaurant chain gain from flinging a slur like that? It does not make sense. The simple explanation is that the term was meant in the traditional "nutty as a fruitcake" sense and was not intended as a slam against gay people.

Greets and saluts from the NYC metro area. Got to travel and see friends this weekend, which meant going on the NJ Turnpike. Noticed the usual assortment of campaign ads (as well as anti-evolution nonsense on the PA turnpike extension into NJ).

Also noticed that between exits 9 and 8A, someone posted a sign saying "Vote American - Romney/Ryan 2012". Subtext of Obama not being an American; un-American; anti-American; birtherism. Take your pick (any/all).

True, but I saw the TV show long before I saw the movie, so (however wrong it may be) the TV show always feels like "the original" to me.

So, a quick Google search came up with this. Because I'm completely hopeless at tech stuff, I can't just post the picture, but if you scroll down to the bottom you'll see an Episcopalian ad from around 2003 that says "You can't fill that empty space with fruitcake." Anti-gay slur? You be the judge.

With Chik-Fil-A's recent history, they might want to be extra careful, but I don't think they're exactly being overtly homophobic here.

re: #301 Dark_Falcon

Chick-fil-A is a restaurant chain. If the 'fruitcake' remark was made by a politician or political activist, then I could see it as a slur. But what profit would a restaurant chain gain from flinging a slur like that? It does not make sense. The simple explanation is that the term was meant in the traditional "nutty as a fruitcake" sense and was not intended as a slam against gay people.

Their CEO inserted himself into politics by letting the whole world know his positions on gays and gay marriage.
This is the civil rights issue of the day.
Therefore, he has forfeited the benefit of the doubt.

I'm not in advertising, and I'll never be in advertising, but even I'm clueful enough to know that the first thing one would do after coming up with a slogan or tagline for an advertisement would be to check for unintentionally negative meanings. This isn't casual conversation -- these are words that you're going to spend millions of dollars repeating. You want to make sure that they're not going to bite you in the ass.

This isn't rocket science, folks.

This is Chick-fil-A we're talking about here. Their founder/CEO is a hardcore fundamentalist who donates money and sponsors known rightwing hate groups like the American Family Association and Family Research Council.
During this past summer, they made it a point of pride about their anti-gay political/social views, including having dedicated promotions to that effect.

'Fruitcake' isn't an attack on anyone's race or gender, its calling someone crazy.

It's also a well established slur against gay men. CFA donated to anti gay rights groups directly from the company checkbook. CFA's franchise agreement requires its franchise partners to be church attending heterosexual married Christians. At best some corporate marketing asshole is being too clever by half, playing tongue in cheek reference to the recent controversy.

In other news, 'Atlas Shrugged Pt. II' dropped this weekend. Here's part of The Stranger's review, 'Return to Asshole's Paradise':

There was no standing ovation at the end of Part II. And how could there be? Even the most ardent fan has to admit that it's a boring, aimless movie. But I bet the people in the theater will recommend the movie to friends and promote it online. They're not doing this because it's a good movie, or because it's especially well-made. They're contributing their time and effort and money to a pursuit that is not strong enough to support itself financially, which is to say that they're supporting this movie out of charity. Which is exactly the opposite of Objectivism. Even Ayn Rand would admit that this thing is a piece of shit, and she'd be disgusted at anyone who tried to convince her otherwise.

Candy that I thought was gross when I was a kid (and is still totally gross):
in no particular order
1. Black licorice
2. Mary Janes (peanut butter nougat)
3. Good 'n' Plenty
4. Necco wafers
5. Bit o' Honey
6. Peter Paul Mounds & Almond Joy
7. Chuckles
8. Jujubes
9. Joyva jelly rings (see above)
10. Whitman's sampler jellies they snuck between the cremes & caramels.

It's not "being able to handle it", its that it a no-win scenario for him. If he plays it cool, then he looks like he's getting hammered by his political critics, since the liberal hosts of the show will not credit him with a point even if he scores one (MBF: conservatives would be just as unwilling to concede anything, likely moreso). If Mitt snarls back at Joy Behar, by contrast, then he just looks like an asshole for going after a woman.

It's smart at times for conservative women to go on "The View", but conservative men should avoid it unless they possess William F. Buckley-level verbal skills, which Mitt Romney does not.

In other words, he's not able to handle it.

Candy that I thought was gross when I was a kid (and is still totally gross):
in no particular order
1. Black licorice
2. Mary Janes (peanut butter nougat)
3. Good 'n' Plenty
4. Necco wafers
5. Bit o' Honey
6. Peter Paul Mounds & Almond Joy
7. Chuckles
8. Jujubes
9. Joyva jelly rings (see above)
10. Whitman's sampler jellies they snuck between the cremes & caramels.

I hated candy corn until about age 15. Now I can't have it in the house, because I'll inhale it in a single sitting...

It has come to mean that, yes, but the original meaning was simply "nutty as a fruitcake". And coming from most anyone else, I might leave it at that.

But I am not really willing to give Chick Fil-A the benefit of the doubt on this one.

A less inept, socially stunted politician than Mitt - even a conservative - could score big with women, which is the show's prime demographic.

Cain went on, as did Netanyahu. But Mitt does not have the social skills of a misogynist like Herman Cain, and he knows it. He's scared of a bunch of women becausae they might make him look bad worse.

That's easy. He's got to do more than pander to his base if he wants to win. He's got to sell himself as an actual living/breathing humanoid. He'd be engaging with an all-woman panel on a popular show that leans more to the proverbial left. It's 20 or so minutes of acting human. He can pull it off.

Considering Mitt's tendency to 'change his tone' depending on the audience he's addressing, you'd think he'd be able to handle the view fine. He'd go on there and spout off about how he's for "100% of women's rights" then of course his campaign would put out a footnote an hour later with an 'except in the case of a woman's right to choose, right to fair pay, or right to marry her other woman friend" but - you know, they're well versed in that type of backpedaling by now so its not like its a particularly difficult path for them.

It's not a matter of arguing your case, going on a talk show is about appearing to win the argument while looking good on television. No matter what Mitt Romney said or how well he did, he'd be attacked and those attacks would be used to create DNC talking points to be aimed against him. Every time Obama goes on a talk show or does an interview, guess what happens? He gets attacked for it and the RNC creates talking points to use against him. Big fucking deal. IT'S PART OF THE JOB. Being POTUS means having every word you say picked apart and scrutinized and attacked.

to gain? a demographic in which he's weak. See, it doesn't really matter how the hosts "score" him. It's how he comes across to the women who watch the show and hence see him. He doesn't have to score "points". He just has to show he's not a boogeyman, that he's reasonable and willing to discuss (instead of lecture) issues relevant to women.

Of course, to me the tell tale in his prior remark isn't that four hostesses are liberal. It's that they're "sharp tongued". That comes across to me like an old joke. (He's assertive, She's a bitch.) It reinforces the belief that all things considered he doesn't think of women as full partners.

Bait and switch to get Ann Romney on the show, most likely. She actually can make gains for her husband on the show, as she's non-political enough to inhibit major attacks.

Bait & Switch: That's his MO for everything.

I think Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, and the other women from the View should be in the audience at tomorrow's debate where they can ask Mitt those tough questions like, "Why are you afraid to come onto our show?"

452 efuseakay  Mon, Oct 15, 2012 10:51:25am

Hey, they're pretty close to Hofstra. That could be done, unless the invitation process is exclusive (as it has been for past debates at that venue).

What gives fruitcake its bad reputation are the jellied fruits. They're disgusting.

Personally, I prefer these at Christmas. Or these.

My grandmother had a recipe from the Depression days for a gumdrop fruitcake. Now that was incredibly tasty!

No, he's not. He takes actions based on expected gains, and his decisions are firstly matters of calculation. But right now a calculating problem-solver seems more our need.

Are you the target of his calculations, or is he the target and you're just hoping his wealth trickles down to you?

459 darthstar  Mon, Oct 15, 2012 10:54:18am

A solid, friendly Obama tomorrow night connecting with the voters in the town hall and not being put off by Romney's shallow insults will solidify this lead.

If the GOP has taught me anything in the last few years, its that voting for any of them enables the worst of them.

Indeed. My problem in 2 years will be that Mark Kirk will be up for re-election... I really don't know what to do about that if he still decides to run, given what has happened to him. He has been great for my district.

Mark Kirk won't be up for reelection till 2016. He was elected to the Senate in 2010 for a full 6-year term. He's also not a wingnut, and he voted to end DADT.

Here's what I found out about the latest wingnut bozorage about the Israeli flag from several Tweets:

Images.

A. Driver pulls up and appears to be taunting Arab-American students with large Israeli flag.

B. Student throws soft drink contents onto windshield.

C. Contents of soft drink spread over window.

Clearly a case of incitement by the driver. Imagine if you will driving into a Jewish neighborhood with a large flag of Palestine and saying who knows what to the citizens. And again, I'll bet you 100 dollars that this is just some white Christian dude.

Also, the Islamophobic group is claiming their "rights" were violated because some kids threw water bottles at them as they attempted to "convert" Muslims at a Dearborn Arab-American Festival.

What would Pamela have to say if THESE EXACT SAME ASSHATS visited a "Jewish-American Festival" and tried preaching to the Jews who were attending.

Never. They'll either have some weird epiphany and figure out they were being assholes(I know, doubtful, but I always try to see the lining in the cloud,as much as possible),or they'll die mean and alone. Most likely the latter. This is what happens when stoking fear and lies becomes acceptable. I wonder what would happen if the Muslim schools started flying Israeli flags, just to fuck with the haters. Sometimes I think the only way to really counter this is to fight back and make these morons look more ridiculous than they already do.
