• Exhibit A: Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney with hate group leader Pamela Geller

Mitt Romney and Pamela Geller

About Pamela Geller:

Pamela Geller is the anti-Muslim movement’s most visible and flamboyant figurehead. She’s relentlessly shrill and coarse in her broad-brush denunciations of Islam and makes preposterous claims, such as that President Obama is the “love child” of Malcolm X. She makes no pretense of being learned in Islamic studies, leaving the argumentative heavy lifting to her Stop Islamization of America partner Robert Spencer. Geller has mingled comfortably with European racists and fascists, spoken favorably of South African racists, defended Serbian war criminal Radovan Karadzic and denied the existence of Serbian concentration camps. She has taken a strong pro-Israel stance to the point of being sharply critical of Jewish liberals.

Continues.

• Exhibit B: EDL’s Tommy Robinson, Robert Spencer of Jihad Watch and Pamela Geller

Tommy Robinson, Robert Spencer of Jihad Watch and Pamela Geller

About Tommy Robinson:

Geller invited the notorious British anti-Muslim group English Defence League (EDL) to her September 2010 anti-mosque rally in New York. The previous May, a report by the British newspaper The Guardian revealed the EDL as thugs who hold anti-Muslim protests intended to provoke violence. Because of its racism and history, the EDL’s leader, Tommy Robinson, was denied entry at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York and sent back to England.

About Robert Spencer:

Proving yet again that nothing is beneath him, anti-Muslim propagandist Robert Spencer has put himself firmly in the camp of open white nationalists with an article published yesterday in Crisis magazine, a conservative Catholic publication. Replete with fawning references to the superior accomplishments of Western culture and the Catholic Church, the piece, titled ‘Is Multiculturalism Evil?,’ proposes that Western civilization is superior to all others and that multiculturalists (aligned with ‘Islamic supremacists’) are colluding to bring it to its knees.

• Exhibit C: Mitt Romney Campaign Senior Foreign Policy Adviser John Bolton and Pamela Geller

Romney foreign policy adviser with hate group leader Pamela Geller in numerous meetings.

About John Bolton:

John Robert Bolton (born November 20, 1948) is an American lawyer and diplomat who has served in several Republican administrations. Appointed on a recess appointment, he served as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations from August 2005 until December 2006. He resigned in December 2006, when the recess appointment would have otherwise ended, because he was unlikely to win senate confirmation.

John Bolton and Mitt Romney

Bolton is currently a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), frequent op-ed contributor to the Wall Street Journal and the National Review, Fox News Channel commentator, foreign policy adviser to 2012 presidential candidate Mitt Romney, and of counsel to the law firm Kirkland & Ellis, in their Washington D.C. office…

The reader should be reminded of the connection between Anders Breivik and Pamela Geller. There is also a connection between Anders Brevik and Robert Spencer. Tommy Robinson’s hooliganism and right-wing extremism is notorious and too extensive to cover here. You can however find many articles covering his organization, the English Defence League, which has been covered extensively at LGF including his connection to Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer.

There is no vast conspiracy at play here. However, it should be disturbing enough that the senior foreign policy adviser to Mitt Romney, John Bolton, has the ear of anti-Islam extremist, Pamela Geller. Her connection with the EDL makes this plainly obvious. This my friends is the post-modern conservative movement, where we find odious characters in the Republican big tent whose lives are intertwined; in this case from Mitt Romney to Pamela Geller; Tommy Robinson (EDL), Robert Spencer and Pamela Geller; and most importantly, the close relationship of John Bolton and Pamela Geller.

I'd like to think this were really only about stupid politicians glad handing, photo ops, etc.

Unfortunately while there is certainly some of that, the real story is about bad judgement- if not by Romney himself then by the people around him who advise him.

Bad, bad judgement.

Obama had his Tony Rezko moments but he also had enough sense to head for the hills when it hit the fan and not look back

Romney seems to be doubling down.

Mitt Romney's supposed moderation is mostly a mask. If you look at the people he associates with and who help form his thinking, he's about as extreme as it gets. W. Cleon Skousen. Glenn Beck. John Bolton. Kris Kobach. It's like a who's who of the radical right.

I doubt Pamela Geller has any particular influence with Romney, but there's a reason why she's hyping him -- because when Romney starts talking about Muslims and Islam he's pretty hard to tell apart from Geller or Spencer.

Great page Gus! Congrads!
You know when I first arrived here on the scene I didn't know Geller until Charles started posting about who her peeps were..Very disturbing about the venom of bigotry she has. Her marching about the mosque in NY sealed it for me. What if Baptists fell out of favor here in the USA? Could we ban their rights to practice religion? We as Americans all have the protections of the Constitution or none at all.

I disagree. I think he's just doing what he needs to do to further build his cred with the far right. I really believe Romney is pretty much just following instructions from his campaign team on where to go, when to go there, who to photo op with, etc. I can't fully explain why but he strikes me as a man who has a hard time thinking for himself in certain situations.

From Barthnotes:

WND Still Promoting Debunked “Obama Wears Muslim Ring” Conspiracy

...Also more or less on board was Andrew Bostom, who declared that Corsi’s and Gabriel’s evidence “appear to be” sound, as was Pamela Geller:

She said Obama’s “anti-freedom, pro-jihad foreign policy has given the global jihad a new lease on death, and clearly he is happy about that, as this ring indicates.”

Robert Spencer, meanwhile, was slightly more cautious:

[Spencer] said that should the ring on Obama’s finger prove to include an inscription of an Islamic prayer, it could explain his foreign policy attitudes and actions regarding freedom in the Middle East.

...

UPDATE: I wasn’t aware of just how deeply Geller invested in this. On Wednesday 10 October, she wrote:

I’d like to see one member of the press corps ask Obama about this. It certainly jives with Obama’s islamophilia and his pro-sharia foreign policies, and with his extensive Muslim background, as detailed in my book, The Post-American Presidency: The Obama Administration’s War on America.

The implications of Obama’s ring aside, the level of his dishonesy is breathtaking. Jerome Corsi over at WND has this blockbuster story.

That entry in her Atlas Shrugs blog has now been deleted – and, as expected, she has felt no need to offer her audience either an apology or an explanation. Robert Spencer behaves in the same way (see here and here for two examples). I’ll repeat what I’ve said before: any blogger dealing in current affairs is likely to make a mistake from time to time; but what separates a serious person from a charlatan or demagogue is how one attempts to put a mistake right (H/T The American Muslim).

At creationism museum, visitors exhibit strong faith in Romney

[...]

Mr. McGonigal, a Baptist from Pennsylvania, says that his belief very much colours his voting preferences. “It’s important that our leaders adhere to biblical principles,” he said. “That’s the only way they can be moral men.”

For him, that means voting for Mitt Romney.

“But does the fact that Mr. Romney is a Mormon trouble you?” I asked him, referring to the candidate’s faith in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

“Yes, it does trouble me,” he replied. “I wish he had accepted Jesus Christ as his saviour.” (Mormons believe that Jesus was a teacher whose exemplary behaviour should be followed, but that later prophets and writings, such as the 19 th– century Book of Mormon, also offer truths to be followed.)

“But I believe that his beliefs align more with the Bible than [Barack] Obama’s do,” Mr. McGonigal said. “That’s good enough for me.”

39 CuriousLurker  Mon, Oct 15, 2012 6:28:53pm

The really effed up thing politically is that the majority of Muslims are fairly socially conservative and therefore a natural, built-in constituency for the GOP.

President G.W. Bush knew that and tried to reach out, then we got thrown under the bus (and they backed up and drove over us again repeatedly for good measure). They've also alienated Blacks, Hispanics, women, young people, and any middle class people with two brain cells to rub together. They drove everyone straight into the arms of the Dems.

The U.S. Muslim population is still fairly small, but it's expected to double to around 6.2 million by 2030. I think it's safe to say the vast majority will be joining the others in pulling the "D" lever in elections for the foreseeable future.

Way to go, GOP! Keep doubling down and pretending that demographics don't matter.

This one is pretty cool.

Nice. Could be a short Qur'an verse. I can't read it easily when it's calligraphy and the letters are on top of each other and/or have fancy flourishes. There are a dizzying number of different styles.

VMWare?

Here is a little down low skinny.. Everybody uses VMware on their blades.. Problem is Hitachi biggest competitor EMC bought VMware.. So I think they will drop a couple billion to buy a programming company to develope a new VM program to drive the new blades..The best in the world. They are blowing companies away with new SAN's and blades. They will be the most powerful cloud in the world soon..

Yeah, even people who can read & write Arabic can't read it, especially the really elaborate stuff. The only people I've met who can are those that have studied calligraphy some. Even then, some of it would require a professional calligrapher to decipher.

Along with the repeating geometric patterns & stylized arabesques of things from nature, calligraphy & manuscript illumination are at the top of my list of favorite things. I love any kind of calligraphy--Western, Asian, Islamic, you name it.

Right, we don't have a server failing in midstream, so there's no need to put the whole site in maintenance mode. In theory we should be able to set up the new box, copy everything over, and jam.

The actual process of moving things over is a lot simpler than with the database. No data needs to be imported -- just files copied.

So an Ohio man sent in a letter to the editor...

Ohio Man Demands State Revoke 'Bisexual' Buckeye's Status As State Tree

“The buckeye is our state tree and most of us gladly wear the nickname, "buckeyes." But it is shameful and unacceptable that a bisexual tree should represent us! We are flaunting the Holy Bible!

I urge everyone to contact their state representative and demand legislation removing the buckeye as our state tree and condemning the use of the term "buckeye" as a nickname for residents of Ohio.”

In the article it explains of the Buckeye tree that "it bears male, female and bisexual flowers on the same tree."

Sigh...please let it be a poe...

See #125. Women didn't just magically get to their professional positions today. Many men were literally forced to change their attitudes about women in "traditional" male roles. It wasn't done voluntarily in many cases. In one sense, that military has been good for that not only for women but blacks, etc. There's more to this obviously. There are also people that would want to go back.

My take is that the underlying object in Afghanistan is to provide some kind of stability until the mines are up and running. There are an estimated trillion dollars in reserves of all sorts of precious metals, rare earth metals, lithium, etc.. in Afghanistan. The contracts are being doled out now, mostly the Chinese and Indian mining companies, but even the nations that have no involvement in the mining profits will benefit from lower market prices from the increase in supply from the new mines in Afghanistan. Yeah I wish I could say we are there to provide freedom and protection for the Afghan people from the Taliban, but I think that's too idealistic. There are dozens of other Nations we could go to war with over human rights violations, but we don't. Afghanistan is different.

Just a theory I've been tossing around;

Historically, all military organizations can be broken down into one of 2 basic camps, which I call the warrior and soldier camps.

The warrior camp generally approach combat as a challenge, either physically or spiritually. Their fighting style, goals, and strategy generally revolve around the mythos of a single combatant archetype fighting for his own glory. Examples would include your Celtic tribes, Vikings, American Indians, etc.

The solider camp treats war as a profession. The enemy is a problem to be solved, either by direct or indirect means, by the group. This culture is more likely to engage in "war by other means", such as economic or cultural pressures, but generally tends to have well organized militaries working along side such efforts, such as the Romans, the Ottoman Turks, and the modern US military.

A warrior culture would decry the use of drones as a cowards weapon, a failure to engage the enemy on equal footing. A soldier culture looks at drones as the easiest solution to the problem of dealing with enemy targets in remote locations.

Just a theory I've been tossing around;

Before the war Ryan C. Crocker and David Petraeus wrote a brief for the Bush administration that spelled out how if the Government in Iraq were to be toppled, it would set off a horrific sectarian war and bring utter chaos in cities and villages throughout Iraq. Correction from my earlier post.. It wasn't Petraeus...

According to the book, Soldier: The Life of Colin Powell by Washington Post reporter Karen DeYoung, as the Bush administration was preparing for war with Iraq in late 2002, then Secretary of State, Colin Powell ordered Crocker and then Special Assistant to the Secretary of State, William Burns to prepare a secret memo examining the risks associated with a U.S. invasion of Iraq. The six-page memo, titled "The Perfect Storm", stated that toppling Saddam Hussein could unleash long-repressed sectarian and ethnic tensions, that the Sunni minority would not easily relinquish power, and that powerful neighbors such as Iran, Syria and Saudi Arabia would try to move in to influence events. It also cautioned that the United States would have to start from scratch building a political and economic system because Iraq's infrastructure was in tatters.

ROFL. Paul Ryan's fail has even made it to the land of metal heads:

Did Paul Ryan Steal 'Bean' Story From Kurt Cobain? -

Did Republican vice presidential nominee and Tea Party darling Paul Ryan steal the story about his first child being nicknamed "Bean" from NIRVANA's Kurt Cobain? According to The Pulse Of Radio, that was the buzz on Twitter after Ryan told his version of the story during Thursday night's (October 11) debate with current vice president Joe Biden. While dodging a question about his extreme anti-choice views on a woman's right to have an abortion, Ryan related that he and his wife nicknamed their first child, Liza, "Bean" after noticing that she looked like a "bean" when they first saw her at an early stage during an ultrasound exam.

As a number of people on Twitter pointed out, the late Cobain told a similar story while he was alive, even making his daughter Frances' middle name Bean after seeing her on his wife Courtney Love's ultrasound scan. Ryan has stated that he is a big fan of NIRVANA, as well as groups like RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE and TOOL.

Astronomers discover planet with four suns.

An international team of amateur and professional astronomers has discovered a planet whose skies are lit up by four suns - the first known case of such a phenomenon.

The planet, located about 5,000 light years from Earth, has been dubbed PH1 in honour of Planet Hunters, a program led by Yale University in the United States, which enlists volunteers to look for signs of new planets.

PH1 is orbiting two suns, and in turn is orbited by a second distant pair of stars. Only six planets are known to orbit two stars, researchers say, and none of those are orbited by other distant stars.

"Circumbinary planets are the extremes of planet formation," said Yale's Meg Schwamb, lead author of a paper presented at the annual meeting of the Division for Planetary Sciences of the American Astronomical Society in Nevada.

"The discovery of these systems is forcing us to go back to the drawing board to understand how such planets can assemble and evolve in these dynamically challenging environments."

US citizen scientists and Planet Hunters participants Kian Jek and Robert Gagliano were the first to identify PH1. Their observations were then confirmed by a team of US and British researchers working in Hawaii.

PH1 is a gas giant with a radius about 6.2 times that of Earth, making it slightly larger than Neptune.

It orbits a pair of eclipsing stars that are 1.5 and 0.41 times the mass of the Sun roughly every 138 days.

There are a whole lot of people who avoid responsibility by claiming individual 'rights'.

On a more serious note, that is one reason why politics has become so divisive.

Religious people claim everything they want as a 'right' and non religious people insist on lesser or no 'rights' for people of faith.

And there is everything in between.

This is the crux of the recent debate on health insurance and birth control: churches & religious groups have the right to continue to denounce it as immoral, but we are not infringing on their "rights" by making them obey the law in providing it.

Hard drugs, especially the highly addictive ones , are problematic because they start to influence behavior beyond just an "illegal smile" at 4:20.

And there is an entirely different dynamic to their lobbying efforts than the alcohol industry.

Whether Hollande really gets all of this done is open to question. But his homework position is not original; some school districts in the United States did the same thing going back more than a century. Early in the 1900s, the influential Ladies’ Home Journal magazine called homework “barbarous,” and school districts such as Los Angeles abolished it in kindergarten through eighth grade. In fact, some educators said it caused tuberculosis, nervous conditions and heart disease in the young and that children were better off playing outside. The American Child Health Association in the 1930s labeled homework and child labor as leading killers of children who contracted tuberculosis and heart disease.

Today people who oppose homework have different objections, among them, the research that suggests it doesn’t really help young children learn.

Russia Plane Crash Pilots Were Drunk, Says Probe
MOSCOW -- Russia's investigative agency says both the pilots of a plane that crashed last month in Russia's far east, killing 10 people, were drunk.

The Investigative Committee said Monday that a forensic study found the first pilot of the local flight was lightly intoxicated and his co-pilot was moderately intoxicated when their An-28 slammed into a forest on the Kamchatka Peninsula on Sept. 12. Ten of 14 people on board, including both pilots, were killed.

Investigators say they are looking into who was responsible for letting the pilots board.

Russia has had a series of deadly crashes in recent years, rooted in lax government controls, poor crew training and neglect of safety rules. Investigators determined that the pilot of a plane that crashed in June 2011, killing 47, was also drunk.

Citigroup CEO plans for succession, but doesn't plan to leave now, WSJ reports
Citigroup (C) CEO Vikram Pandit is taking steps to ensure that the company has a worthy successor upon his retirement, though he doesn't plan to leave for several years, the Wall Street Journal reports. A lead contender to be Pandit's successor could be Mike Corbat, the head of the company's operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, sources say.

Violentacrez Fired: Michael Brutsch Loses Job After Reddit Troll Identity Exposed By Gawker

Actions have consequences, which is something Michael Brutsch is just starting to learn.

Brutsch, aka "Violentacrez," was Reddit's biggest troll until Gawker exposed his true identify, revealing to the world the man behind questionable forums, such as r/creepshots -- a space dedicated to pictures of women unaware that their photographs had been taken.

We as Americans all have the protections of the Constitution or none at all.

It's been well-established by the Republican Party in this nation that the United States Constitution™ only applies when they think it should apply, and only grants rights to people they feel should have those rights.

It shouldn't be as easy as it is in this country to just fire someone, but that's thanks to the weakness of our unions and worker's right's laws.

That last is a debate for another time. For right now I'd argue that even if 'at will' employment was discontinued, any proper 'for cause' replacement would cover firing someone who had engaged in behavior such as that of Michael Brutsch. His moral turpitude would have tarnished his employer and lowered the moral of his co-workers had he stayed. That is cause enough for termination in my book.

Because of one of his sites, I think it would be easier in Germany. Even without that one, he's easily met standards for dismissal in most nations.

Trolling is borderline (if not full) incitement. It's intended to disrupt, to evoke reactions so strong it derails normal behavior. And he ran several such sites.

He doesn't just have creepshots and jailbait. He also had n*****jailbait and jewmerica and hitler (the one that'd get him in Germany) and picsofdeadkids and a lot more equally bad if not worse. All were intended to troll - to offend and evoke disruptive reaction.

I am completely unsurprised he is losing his job.

The Romney campaign has given up on New Mexico entirely, and one poll had Obama up in Arizona, formerly a sure thing for Romney. I imagine that Obama supporters in AZ would be afraid to put it on their car.

I'm hoping to see the same out of President Obama tonight. It's town hall style, his best venue. He connects with people, shows compassion for them because he understands what it's like to struggle. He can sympathize with them and still keep a sharp eye on his opponent, who will feel like he's in a cage with hungry animals and will try to explain his way out...and that's when Obama needs to pounce, and call him on his bullshit. If he does that, it will be beautiful, because the audience (unless Romney was allowed to stack it himself, which is entirely possible) will shun him if he gets caught lying to them.

Well, this could have something to do with it:

If the problem with our economy is not inadequate demand, as Democrats say, but rather that the rich do not have enough money in their hands, as Republicans contend, then what were we to make of the record $2 trillion in free cash currently sitting idle with America's banks and corporations - a large portion of which I would submit is being sequestered so as to deliberately suppress the economy to Obama's disadvantage in order that America's plutocracy can get the compliant Romney puppet regime these oligarchs so obviously desire.

It's official...the Irish prefer native (Kenyan) son O'Bama to Ryan.

[Link: www.reuters.com...]

Ryan's pitch to slash public spending does not go down so well in a country reeling from years of austerity imposed after crippling bank debt forced the government to take a bailout from the European Union and the International Monetary Fund in 2010.

Despite the Ryan connection, few locals are hoping for a Republican victory across the ocean.

"It would give a boost to a nice small town like this, but I would forgo it. I wouldn't want to inflict him on the American people," said Margaret, a 64-year-old cashier, upset by Ryan's plans to cut welfare and Medicare health cover for the elderly. She withheld her family name to avoid angering her employer.

A straw poll of 20 people on a recent afternoon found 12 Obama supporters and none for Ryan and running mate Mitt Romney.

Ninety-six percent of people in Ireland who have decided would back Obama and Irish Catholic running mate Joe Biden if they had a vote, according to a September poll of 1,000 people by Gallup International.

"He's too far right-wing for this part of the world," said Martin Brett, the former mayor of the county's capital Kilkenny, who hosted Ryan's uncle when he came to trace his roots in the region a few years ago.

5 Facts You Should Commit To Memory Before Watching Tonight’s Debate

1. The deficit is largely a product of tax cuts and wars.
2. When US officials asked for more security in Libya, they wanted it in Tripoli, not Benghazi.
3. 72 million people would be uninsured under Romney’s health plan.
4. If the DREAM Act were passed, it would add $329 billion to the economy by 2030.
5. The “six studies” that Romney cites in defense of his tax plan are actually 3 blog posts, 2 right-wing reports and 1 op-ed.

Coulter calls for ‘Disown Your Son Day’ in response to ‘Coming Out Day’

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) is calling for people to wear purple in support of LGBT youth after conservative columnist Ann Coulter joked that “Disown Your Son Day” should follow last week’s “National Coming Out Day.”

In a post to Twitter earlier Tuesday morning, Coulter wrote, “Last Thursday was national ‘coming out’ day. This Monday is national ‘disown your son’ day.”

Out of the dozens of people responding on Twitter, not one seemed to find any humor in Coulter’s joke.

re: #361 Obdicut

And considering that Anonymous has a long history of harassing teenage girls, this is pretty hypocritical, too.

Anonymous has a long history of being internet vigilantes, for better or for worse.

In the first place, one has to understand that referring to "Anonymous" as some kind of organized group is a bit silly. There is no centralized leadership of an organized group, it's just random anonymous people, mostly from 4chan's /b/ board but not exclusively from there. Nobody directs them, it's just that one or two of them post up an idea and some number of people glom onto it until it becomes a thing. It's more or less anarchy. /b/ posters were calling themselves Anonymous and Legion long before groups of them ever did anything newsworthy.

From there, the things that 'Anonymous' does as an 'organization' -- again, to truly call it that isn't really correct -- can best be classified as some odd form of internet vigilantism. In the early days they did physical protest rallies against the Church of Scientology due to its very shady past and practices. Then there was Jessi Slaughter. Yeah, it was bullying a teenage girl. They justified it by reminding folks that she liked to put up youtube videos talking about how she was going to 'cap bitches' and such, basically being an internet tough girl, and their intent was to knock her down several pegs.

Not saying it was right (it wasn't), but that was their reason.

And now digging up information on Amanda Todd's harasser. To characterize them as inherently good or bad is to ignore their checkered history. It's more complex than just good or bad.

Anderson Cooper calls out Romney for claiming ‘blog posts’ are tax plan studies

“The suggestion is that these are full-blown academic studies,” Cooper noted on Monday. “Actually, three are blog posts, one is a Wall Street Journal op-ed. In the Wall Street Journal piece, Martin Feldstein, who’s also a campaign advisor, makes the math work but only by using a different definition of middle class than Mr. Romney uses in his own plan.”

“In another study cited by Mr. Romney, Princeton economist Harvey Rosen assumes the tax cuts would generate enough economic growth to offset the cost but for many, that is — that’s a rather large assumption. One that’s also by the way questioned by many conservative economists as well.”

Cooper concluded: “Bottom line, though, that word assume. Every one of these authors in each of these studies or so-called studies is making assumptions. As some may be solid assumptions, others dubious, but they’re all just assumptions because neither Mitt Romney nor Paul Ryan nor any of their surrogates have yet come forward with specifics.”

Bryan Fischer on CNN Likens Anti-Bullying Program to Poisoned Halloween Candy, Defends Gay-Nazi Claims

American Family Association spokesman Bryan Fischer appeared on CNN today and told host Carol Costello that the Southern Poverty Law Center’s “Mix It Up at Lunch Day” program, which the AFA is protesting, is “toxic” to the “moral health” of students, much like “poisoned Halloween candy” injected with cyanide.

After Fischer did his normal routine of arguing that Hitler was gay and that the Stormtroopers were largely comprised of gay members while making wild claims about the supposed dangers of homosexuality, Costello abruptly ended the interview, adding, “thanks for sharing your views, I guess.”
