Romney at Private Fundraiser: Obama Thinks Businesspeople Are ‘Evil’

As his wife blows the racist dog whistle
Politics • Views: 26,793

Today, Mother Jones’s David Corn has posted another recording of Mitt Romney at a private fundraiser; not as dramatic as the now-infamous “47%” video, but still very revealing of Romney’s (and wife Ann’s) true feelings — as Romney tells the audience that President Obama considers businesspeople “evil,” and his wife says Obama isn’t a “grown-up:” Romney to Business Crowd: Obama Sees You as an ‘Evil’.

Ever since I revealed Mitt Romney’s 47 percent rant, tips and tapes have come through the transom—including this and this. And another source who asked not to be identified just sent me an audio recording of a private Mitt Romney fundraiser from earlier this year. At this event, Romney didn’t decry half of the nation, but he and Ann Romney each expressed disdain for President Barack Obama, with the Republican presidential candidate asserting that Obama considers businesspeople “a necessary evil” and his wife suggesting that the president was not a “grown-up.”

This isn’t the first time Ann Romney has used that “grown-up” dog whistle, either. There’s a long history in this country of infantilizing black males, and the Romneys are simply carrying on this racist right wing tradition.

Anybody who didn't think Ann had a racist dog whistle (pure platinum, by the way) probably also believes Mitt Romney is a closet moderate.

Yep, that would be the sentiments I hear from the Repubicans in my life. Because the whole purpose of life is to make money.

NO one ever seems to ask "why" or "for who"?

"People" never seem to enter in the thought process.

Not all business people are evil but there are some business people who are evil: Trump, Koch, Waltons.

NOT evil: Bill Gates.

I'm hypersensitive to this issue, as a businessman in a very high-tax state (California). In fact, we're making plans to exit the state within the next two years, moving business operations elsewhere.

Californians don't even hide their contempt for business. You see it in the "prop 30" campaigns, saying that "millionaires" need to pay their "fair share"

[Link: www.couragecampaign.org...]

That being said, I've NEVER seen or hear Obama repeat the anti-business and anti-success rhetoric I hear from California progressives. Never. He's very even handed, and even wants to do things like lower the corporate tax rate a few points.

The Romney campaign is simply making this up.

I am not a business owner. You are, I want to ask about the auto bailout, was that overall, a wise move for the government?

11 Charles Johnson  Mon, Oct 29, 2012 11:03:04am

Any second now, someone will chime in and say, "There was nothing racist about that."

Just like they said for the last 97 incidents of right wing dog whistle racism.

I find it interesting in cyberpunk sci-fi how Artificial Intelligences are quarantined and regarded as somewhat demonic in nature, as their interests aren't exactly served by being subservient to humans. Businesses are like that. So yes, I'd say business has a higher potential for evil the larger they become.

I've heard more paranoia about Executive Orders and such. When I show the numbers of EO's from each administration showing Obama is just doing what any POTUS does, the information is ignored.

He is systematically dismantling the Constitution under the table, with out Congressional or Voter knowledge or approval --doncha know? /gah

14 Hercules Grytpype-Thynne  Mon, Oct 29, 2012 11:03:51am

Just to be fair, there's a difference between calling a group of people "a necessary evil" and calling the individuals in the group "evil". The former doesn't actually attribute moral turpitude to members of the group.

I really have no working knowledge about all of the things that go into running a business, but I read my fair share of commentary about the bailout, but never discussed it with a business owner. Just curious to know your take.

Doubt it. They'll double down if Romney loses and say that they didn't go hard enough after Obama. And they'll spend the next four years pushing for impeachment or at a minimum a complete obstructionist agenda until 2016.

My brother is "stuck" in Tel Aviv. He flew El-Al, and they don't have a lot of partner deals, so they're not quick to re-route him on another airline. He says they many not be able to get him back to NY until 11/4.

He's worried he'll miss the election. So if Obama loses NY by one vote, you'll know why.

29 Shiplord Kirel  Mon, Oct 29, 2012 11:07:38am

I was glad to hear that Glenn Beck no longer recognizes his country. I've been aware for some time that many rank-and-file conservatives were objectively disloyal, and it's good to hear one of their seditionist ringleaders state it so plainly.
From their glorification of secessionist slave-traders to their willingness to fight federal troops in the streets, to their hatred of immigrants and their every-day rejection of the Enlightenment principles that guided the Founders, they have manifestly demonstrated that they have no idea what this country is really about.
Get out, Glenn and the rest. Somalia and northern Mali beckon.

They have another 4 years to set the stage for a big conservative take-over in 2016.

Regarding the lunatic evangelist who is already blaming Hurricane Sandy on homosexuality -

It's currently being reported that the central landfall is likely to be in the north-central New Jersey (Atlantic City) area.

Does this mean that it is more accurate to speculate that the storm is God's punishment for "Jersey Shore"?

Ann Romney has very little idea of what it means to be an average adult. I may be wrong, because I'm pretty much speculating, but when you don't even take care of your own horse, let alone do your own housework, how can you know what it's like?

Obama may be rich, but he's dealt with people who aren't all his life, especially in Indonesia and Chicago.
