NASA warned New York about hurricane danger six years ago
"The point is that we have a terrible track record of dealing with long-range risks in this country. This is exacerbated by a presentist, science-phobic mindset on full display in the saga of 2012 presidential debates — which now, in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, looks utterly inane. The debates completely ignored climate change — and then much of Manhattan was flooded."
A recent study by Rosenzweig and Gornitz in 2005 and 2006 using the GISS Atmosphere-Ocean Model global climate model for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change projects a sea level rise of 15 to 19 inches by the 2050s in New York City. Adding as little as 1.5 feet of sea level rise by the 2050s to the surge for a category 3 hurricane on a worst-case track would cause extensive flooding in many parts of the city. Areas potentially under water include the Rockaways, Coney Island, much of southern Brooklyn and Queens, portions of Long Island City, Astoria, Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens, lower Manhattan, and eastern Staten Island from Great Kills Harbor north to the Verrazano Bridge.

Nerds rush in where angels fear to tread.
There's no real secret to these kind of things. "Polls" are not measures of the actual vote (absentee, early, or Nov. 6 in-the-flesh) but merely empirical valuations designed to achieve this or that goal, whatever their creator wants them to be.
This, as I've remarked before, reminds me of DWTS, where enough mirror balls, confetti, and trumpet flourishes can are there to entertain those who don't want to, or unable to, critically evaluate the actual dancing (or lack thereof.)
And, this year in particular, the "heat", to use a term from live entertainment, is not about actual issues but who's ahead. Again, it is like DWTS, where what matters is the popularity, not the substance (or lack thereof.)

I'm not aware of any problems with FEMA until Katrina, but someone older may remember other events. Nah but they will say that the reason Mitt lost is because he wasn't a real conservative. I'm also expecting some of the socons to be upset because Mitt hasn't been a huge cultural warrior directly. From what I read, Santorum was able to do better than Bachmann in some part because he paid a lot of attention to the social issues that the socons like.

I also remember his moronic comment about the mandate. Coming from a man who once voted (With the minority thankfully) to uphold sodomy laws. That was very fucking stupid and intellectually dishonest. And here's another reason I don't believe Mitt Romney is going to govern as a moderate especially on legal matters. He has Robert F'ing Bork as his legal adviser.

Flow Yoga Center said it was throwing open the doors to its Astanga Mysore, Pilates, Prana Flow and Vinyasa Flow classes next Tuesday "to help our United States re-unite again."
"You just need to vote first, and then bring along your 'I Voted!' sticker or equivalent to get a free class," said

Major Retailer Urges Workers To Take 'Civics Course' With Anti-Obama Content
If you live in the Midwest and you're working on a home-improvement project, you're as likely to do your shopping at a Menards store as at a Lowe's or Home Depot. With 270 stores and 40,000 employees, Menards is the third-largest home-improvement chain in the U.S., and one of the largest privately held corporations in the country. But Menards stores sell more than just lumber and building supplies; their employees are sold a bill of goods in the form of right-wing ideology.
This January, as the Iowa Caucuses were underway, Menards began encouraging employees to take an at-home online "civics" course that characterizes the economic policies of President Barack Obama as a threat to the success of businesses such as Menards, and by extension, to the employees' own well-being.
If you are interested in worker rights it is a good read.

Did not find the video particularly funny. Nothing partisan, I just found it too in your face, I think more sublety would have been a lot more effective.
I guess it is also because it fuels the "we aren't going to accept this outcome" line of thinking that we are bound to see, regardless of who wins. The outcome is going to be too close and nothing but a major landlide on either side would be accepted as irrefutable proof of a "mandate".
And chasing down voter fraud is like going after Saddam's WMD's, there are known unknowns and unknown unknowns, etc...
Voter fraud/intimidation/miscounting is something that can be done in small increments over broad areas by people who are related only through their ideology and not through any organization or chain of command that can be traced.

MSNBC is doing a very nice job of smoothly relating their storm & aftermath coverage to their political leanings...
The Ed Show has lots of footage and descriptions of the ongoing rescue work -- mostly cops and firefighters, a bit of national guard, the treetrimmers, the public transportation that evacuated people in time, the schoolteachers who are staffing shelters -- and then "these are the middle class, these are the people whose collective bargaining rights were at stake in the Wisconsin budget fight and Ohio's bill 5 and (some other state's thing), these are the people whose wages are stagnant and pensions and healthcare benefits getting cut to offer more tax breaks to people who make 20 times as much, but who do we count on when shit happens..."
Rachel's playing up the awesome pre-planning -- that part of shutting down the NYC subways was disconnecting a lot of electrical equipment and moving it upstairs where it wouldn't be ruined by the floodwaters (saving about $4 billion worth of gear), that FEMA prepositioned federal search and rescue teams and electrical lineworkers in Jersey with all their supplies and equipment so they could get to work immediately when the winds died down (no wonder Chris Christie is so happy), that investment in NOAA is why the predictions were so spot on that all this pre-planning was effective and BTW did we mention that Romney wants to cut NOAA funding or maybe privatize it....
now I have to watch Lawrence and see what angle he used...

Yep, personally I don't find it funny at all, just offensive and needlessly crude. I understand what Michael Moore was aiming for, a sort of camp vibe, but in my opinion he missed the mark by a mile. The threat, even joking (is it really a joke?), to "burn it down" if the Republicans "steal the election" is repulsive to me. Sounds just like the Freepers saying they are bringing out their guns if the Democrats "steal" the election.
I'm honestly surprised that anyone can like that ad, but I guess everyone has their own tastes about humor. When I watch it all I see is a lot of ugliness with a superficial layer of incongruity based on setting and characters that is supposed to make it farcical. It doesn't work, at least not for me...

No political ideas could have prevented this storm.
But a lot of bad political ideas could have FEMA and other emergency services providers facing severe budget cuts, if not outright privatization or closure.
And a lot of bad political ideas look at that storm and don't see the connection between it and climate change, and they'd refuse to consider our actions in that at all.

Let us not pretend that this isn't a taste of things to come. It is. We can pretend it is just weather and do nothing, or we can start to own up to the consequences of a century of fossil fuel consumption.

Hurricanes are controlled by the US government. As you well know.
But wait! Actually, it was caused by gay marriage and of course abortion.
I want to clear something up. I am not saying this super destructive hurricane was because of the homosexual act. The Holy God of Israel will judge individuals for their sinful acts.
What I am saying is the judgment is for the government promoting homosexual “marriage” as an ordinance. Once a nation legalizes sin, like abortion and homosexual “marriage”: that nation falls under the direct judgment of the Holy God of Israel. God does not destroy a nation right away but first warns.

But the last-minute nature of the call for donations left some in the campaign concerned that they would end up with an empty truck. So the night before the event, campaign aides went to a local Wal Mart and spent $5,000 on granola bars, canned food, and diapers to put on display while they waited for donations to come in, according to one staffer. We've got huge problems ahead for NJ with all the damage around here. OT: got a FB problem that's bothering me. I'm FB friends with a guy who my better half went to college with. I've mentioned him before; completely lost-his-ability-to-see-reality type of conservative. Literally thinks Obama hates success and wants to punish people for it.
He posted a political cartoon the other day of Obama with his arm around an Arab-looking guy with the words "Al Queada" on his shirt. The "terrorist" is wearing a sheep-skin hoodie, like the Big Bad Wolf" with the phrase "Muslim Brotherhood" on it.
Obama is offering the guy the sage advice to lay low until after the election, the implication that Obama knows these guys are trouble and is endorsing them. AKA, working with Al Queda.
Do I drop this guy? I'm not comfortable with the idea of un-friending someone with political views I disagree with, but to me, this is beyond that. This is using your possibly-pathological hatred of Obama to accuse him of treason.
You don't like Obama, fine. It's a free country. Just base your opposition to him with reality. This is the side of the modern conservative/GOP movement that scares the living piss out of me.
There were plenty of people suffering from Bush Derangement Syndrome, but very few of them had any really sway in the Democratic party. Not so with today's GOP. And quite frankly, I'm not really sure if I want to deal with people this out-of-their-minds.

Hartman says the tree was planted on the green in 1909 on the 100th anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln’s birth. He says the remains likely belong to one of thousands of people buried there in Colonial times. The remains will be evaluated by the state medical examiner.

There were plenty of people suffering from Bush Derangement Syndrome, but very few of them had any really sway in the party. Not so with today's GOP. And quite frankly, I'm not really sure if I want to deal with people this out-of-their-minds.

re: #257 Reverend Mother Ramallo
It's not the loud-mouths that bother me.
You see what you get with Christie.
It's the quiet sneaky ones, like Kasich, Walker, and R. Scott. that concern me.
Keep in mind that the following is written with the understanding Christie's doing a decent job dealing with the hurricane.
It is true that Christie is a you-get-what-you-see person. He stuck it to some unions here, but he didn't make a grand spectacle of it like Walker in WI (the fact the Dems went along with it helped immensely).
Part of it is me, I guess. I had to deal with bullies on-and-off growing up, and can't fucking stand them. Plus, the teacher-bashing he does results in everyone shitting on teachers around here.
The whole "It's not the teachers we hate, it's the unions" speil is incredibly disingenuous, because quite frankly people aren't that smart. They're not going to be happy until teachers are making $12,000 a year max, and then wonder why the schools suck worse.
I'm also sick of everyone who's even slightly conservative from other states telling me what a genius he is because he can't restrain himself from trying to physically fight some nitwit who yelled at him on the Boardwalk. Let's get the NJ unemployment rate down to manageable levels first.

More looting news...
Superstorm Sandy swipers: New York homes and businesses hit by looters
New York home and business owners have yet another thing to worry about, just one day after Hurricane Sandy ravaged the east coast. The city has been hit with looters hoping to cash in on pricey goods left inside abandoned buildings.
Police have arrested at least 13 people in connection with looting.
The stealing is not out of necessity – in fact, no acts of looting for food or water have been reported. Instead, the thieves are swiping clothes and electrical goods in New York’s hardest hit areas.
One of those areas is South Street Seaport – a historic part of town located near Manhattan’s financial district. The storm knocked out plate-glass windows from several stores, providing a playground for looters looking for easy merchandise.
“I saw two people walking by the Ann Taylor store and reach in and take some shirts that were just laying right there by the mannequin,” a local man told the New York Post. “It’s really messed up, man. They’re really taking advantage.”
Looters also scored fancy gadgets at a nearby Brookstone store before police arrived to stand guard in the area.
Perhaps the biggest kick in the face to the victims is that the looting suspects seem anything but ashamed of their actions. Many even used Twitter to map their looting sprees.
Area police have vowed that the thieves will not get away with their criminal acts.
“We will not tolerate these scumbags looting. We will arrest them on sight,” a police source said.
And in Coney Island a pharmacy was looted...
Thieves broke in to the badly damaged Mega Aid Pharmacy on Mermaid Avenue and reportedly stole more than 10,000 pharmaceutical items, including prescription drugs.

You know, because elections trump actual emergencies.

Your Palestine news...
Our Town: Keller girl wins state fair ribbon for local photo
PALESTINE — If you visited the Texas State Fair this year you may have recognized a photo of a Palestine landmark that took first place in the junior photography competition, ages 12 to 17.
While visiting Palestine during the Dogwood Trails Celebration in March earlier this year, Dylan Palmer and her parents, Mark and Julie Palmer of Keller, toured the Texas Theater.
Dylan and her mom took lots of photos around town that day. Dylan’s photo of the theater seemed a good candidate for the Junior Black and White, Architectural Features/Buildings Monuments competition.
Dylan was excited to make it into this particular competition as she just made it into the age bracket, turning 12, only three days before the start of the fair.
Her parents talked to her about the stiff competition in the photography category, but Dylan shined through — winning a blue ribbon or her entry.
Dylan is the granddaughter of former Palestine residents, Jerry and Marilyn Palmer, who now reside in The Woodlands. Her father, Mark Palmer, also is a former resident of Palestine and remembers going to the Texas Theater as a child.

What do you think disaster relief would be like if it was provided by for-profit corporations?
Since disaster providers would be contracted to the government, and would thusly be public knowledge, as soon as a disaster hits, everyone involved would be snapping up those companies stocks. So, the companies would profit as would the investors. The only ones losing out would be the people who the disaster befell. Because, as has been shown in Iraq and New Orleans, private contracted companies do not do a good job. Profiting on the backs of disaster victims is despicable and should not just be disallowed but outlawed.

My 6 y.o. shouts (with his lisp), "No ! Don't pick it up ! It's Mitt Romney -- he's evil !"
And I'm all like, " Shhh! Don't say that so loud!"

This isn't New Orleans, this is New York City we're talking about. There will be some looting, but a great many of those who try that will be arrested, and those arrests will dampen the desire of others to steal. Let the thieves enjoy their stay on Riker's Island. The NYPD knows how to keep order.
13 arrests for theft in a city of 8,000,000? That's not even a smoke break for the NYPD.

The congressman, who is running for his sixth term, was outspoken about -- among other things -- the need to pay for any spending on disaster relief, an issue he has dealt with before. In 2005, he voted against a bill to help Hurricane Katrina victims because he said it cost too much at $51.8 billion. King was one of only 11 members of Congress to oppose the bill.
King said last week that his vote against Hurricane Katrina relief was "a good vote" and "a principled vote."

Less arrests than normal no doubt. Plus since everyone stayed home it cut down in traffic deaths. That's the irony of hurricanes in such. It probably cuts down normal every day "casualties."

"Just grab something."
As supporters lined up to greet the candidate, a young volunteer in a Romney/Ryan t-shirt stood near the tables, his hands cupped around his mouth, shouting, "You need a donation to get in line!"
Empty-handed supporters pled for entrance, with one woman asking, "What if we dropped off our donations up front?"
The volunteer gestured toward a pile of groceries conveniently stacked near the candidate. "Just grab something," he said.
Two teenage boys retrieved a jar of peanut butter each, and got in line. When it was their turn, they handed their "donations" to Romney. He took them, smiled, and offered an earnest "Thank you."

That's why Katrina used debit cards instead of cash. That pallet of currency was likely stolen with the connivance of at least some of the people supposed to be guarding it. Israeli Defense Chief Says Iran Postponed Nuclear Ambitions
By RICK GLADSTONE
Published: October 30, 2012
Israel’s defense minister said Tuesday that the country had interpreted Iran’s conversion of some enriched uranium to fuel rods for civilian use as evidence that Iran had delayed ambitions to build a nuclear weapon.
The assertion, by Defense Minister Ehud Barak in an interview with The Daily Telegraph, a British newspaper, amounted to the first explanation from him as to why he and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu softened their position in September over the possibility of a military strike to thwart what they called Iran’s drive toward imminent nuclear weapons capability.
Their tough position on Iran, which they consider Israel’s most dangerous enemy, had generated tensions with the Obama administration, which has contended that Iran is many months away from the ability to make a nuclear weapon...

[D&D crossover]
You can't cock punch Mitt Romney or any other practicing Mormon for that matter. He has Special Item: Magic Underpants that automatically protect his penis against any melee attack. Moreover attempting a cock punch on Mitt Romney not only fails to injure him but also allows him to use Transmute Soul as a Free Action:
Transmute Soul: Usable at any time, takes 2 turns to recharge. +1 Difficulty to use
If the attack succeeds, target takes 6D^ Physic Damage and must make an immediate Saving Roll to prevent further damage.
1st Failed Saving Roll: Target takes an extra 3D6 Physic Damage.
2nd Failed Saving Roll: Target's soul is sucked out of their body and transmuted into a large gold coin called a Soul Coin. The Soul Coin is worth 10,000 Gold.
See Fate of Transmuted Souls for more details on Soul Coins.

More seriously, she will have to find a bunch of kids to room with. There is probably nothing in Manhattan for her now. (I lived a short walk from the Library when I made $35 per week. Friends around the corner at 1 Park Ave weren't making much more, but they had about 5-6 girls in the small apartment and given month. That's all over now.)
Just checked some listings. 1-2 bedroom apt in Crown Heights going for around $1K/mo

The P-38 did very well in the Pacific, where its long range and twin engines gave it an endurance and survivability edge over other US fighters. Towards the end of the war the P-47N had begun to challenge the P-38 in terms of range, but having two engines was still a critical advantage for long flights over water.

re: #389 Dark_Falcon
If I were a governor, I'd answer that with legal action to punish any teachers taking part for in such a wildcat strike in violation of their contracts allied to aggressive police enforcement for trespassing and disorderly conduct laws to handle picketers. I'd also see if such a coordinated labor action in violation of contract could be dealt with under my state's version of RICO.
Which tells me you don't even really know the law. A wildcat strike is not one done "in violation of contracts". "No-strike" clauses in contracts are, at best, interesting.
A wildcat strike is a strike done without the involvement of the union officials.
Interestingly, if there is no union it still cannot be a wildcat strike.
The sum total of action that can be taken for this strike is the teachers can be fired. That's it.
Can they be charged with criminal trespass? That depends on where they put the picket line. And the really fun test cases come when the property is (nominally) public - such as school grounds.
Can you hit them with a state RICO? Need to show they're conspiring to commit a crime - and striking is not a crime.
It is not illegal to negotiate for better benefits, nor is it illegal to take your case for benefits and conditions to the press.

Excerpted from Here Comes Trouble: Stories From My Life by Michael Moore
My dad had noticed for some years that I no longer wanted to shoot guns. He had taken note of when we boys in the neighborhood had stopped playing War. I didn’t know much about his time as a Marine in the South Pacific during World War II. The only clues my sisters and I got was when he would name our dogs after battles he was in: Peleliu, Tarawa, etc. In our attic he kept some war souvenirs: a Japanese flag, a sword, and the gun he had taken off a Japanese soldier. One day, without explanation, Dad decided he no longer wanted these items in our house. He quietly went and got a shovel out of the garage, gathered together the Japanese spoils of war, and went out to the large weeping willow tree in our backyard. He dug a hole — a very, very deep hole — and buried the gun and the sword and flag under the shade of that tree. When it was all done and the earth had been restored, he stood there alone, looking down, deep in thought or prayer or who knows what. I watched from my bedroom window.
Continues.

It's been awhile since I've done this:
[D&D crossover]
You can't cock punch Mitt Romney or any other practicing Mormon for that matter. He has Special Item: Magic Underpants that automatically protect his penis against any melee attack. Moreover attempting a cock punch on Mitt Romney not only fails to injure him but also allows him to use Transmute Soul as a Free Action:Transmute Soul: Usable at any time, takes 2 turns to recharge.
[/D&D Crossover]
It's worth the risk.

Frank’s father had served in the Marines in World War I, and his uncle Tom had been a doughboy in the trenches in France during that same war. Having been gassed by the Germans, Tom was of ill health and thus lived with Frank and the family in Flint. Frank got to see up close the effect that nasty war had on these two good men. Neither could explain to Frank why America had gone to war in 1917, and so when the drums began to beat again, Frank wanted to know exactly what this one was all about. Yes, it was enough that the nation was attacked — but was there something else we should know? Anything? Something? OK, well, those bastards destroying our fleet was certainly good enough for Frank. He was ready to go fight.

Worth noting is that I used the term 'walk-out' instead of 'strike' deliberately. First, to cover cases where teaching isn't unionized, second, to pointedly not invoke striking and picketing.
I'm talking about walking the hell out. Getting up from the desk, telling the kids to report to the gym or wherever the largest assembly location is to await bus pickup and transport back home, and walking out -- not to return until this nation grows the hell up about how it treats its educators.

Mitt Romney isn't evil. He's a decent leader and an extremely capable organizer with a strong eye on the bottom line. He'll make a good president should he win.
And what proof of this do you offer? The Olympics where Romney got unprecedented federal funds, while saying feds shouldn't do anything? What kind of leader? Where has he led? In business, tearing down other businesses to make solely make money?
Here's a concept...what does the government of the US make and sell? Why would a business person make a better president? My proof? Hoover and Bush.

Sometimes, I get to feeling like this country could benefit greatly from a nice, hard teacher's walk-out. Not for a pay raise or working conditions betterment, mind you, but to stop teaching until people stop treating teachers like shit.
Oh those horrible greedy teachers, indoctrinatin' our chillen? Alright fuckwads, educate your own brats for five to ten years, and when they come out retarded and unable to perform basic functions in modern society, blame yourselves.
Sometimes I think this should apply to all those Job Creators who are oh so important. One week of every worker in their company taking off and let's see how job creatory these people are.
It's not that I take anything from entrepreneurs, its the ones who think they did and do everything, because from teachers to streets to what is actually produced, even in business, it is a collective effort.

“I believe the preservation of America depends on pastors,” said Robert Jeffress, senior pastor of the 10,000-member First Baptist Church of Dallas. “This is no time for God’s men to be passive. It’s time to stand up and push back against all the evil in our country.
“Tell your people that they have a choice: to cast a vote for righteousness or vote for unrighteousness.”
Jeffress urged the capacity crowd at the A La Carte Event Pavilion in Tampa to use their pulpit time this Sunday to stress the importance of voting for the candidate who supports the “biblical values” of the sanctity of marriage, sanctity of life and religious freedom.
Stay silent, he warned them, and you’re no different than German Lutheran pastors who didn’t speak out against Hitler’s growing influence in the late 1930s. That lack of action led to the Holocaust, he said.

Agreed. He's been that way from the beginning. Chris Christie is prepared to do his part for the party, but not at the expense of his duties. And frankly, that's what New Jersey needed in 2009 and needs now more than ever.
In times like this, in the aftermath of Sandy, people need men (and women) of action: President Obama and Gov. Christie can pull it off, Mitt can't.

Finally, Mitt Romney gets some positive press coverage about his Jeep-China message of hope...
Romney’s lies about Jeep and GM are no less egregious than the lies he tells about his views on women’s freedom and equal pay, healthcare, middle class taxes, Medicare, Social Security, and so much more. No less egregious or ruining of reputations than when he smeared 47% of the country as lazy victims who felt “entitled” to food and shelter. But heck, it was okay when he was smearing those people. If it wasn’t exactly okay, it was up for debate. Were they not paying taxes, who wasn’t paying taxes, why and how much – these were issues.
But when he started smearing corporations and hurting business, well that was enough of that. Mitt Romney can make enemies anywhere at any time. That much is clear. It seems Mitt Romney has just met two corporations that are not people. They are much bigger than people. Even Mitt Romney will not be allowed to lie about big corporations.
GM and Chrysler didn’t deserve to be dragged into Romney’s mud, but then neither did union members, women, the gay community, single mothers, veterans, people on Social Security, Britain, and the rest of the global community he’s taken aim at in despicable acts of stupidity and desperation. It’s one thing to have an ideological position and another to tell egregious, harmful lies about the other in order to get votes and money.
Okay...maybe it's not 100% positive, but people are paying attention to what he's actually saying...so that's good, right? Right? Bueller?

'The bro and his ho' bumper sticker left at Democratic headquarters
A derogatory bumper sticker placed on the window of the Democratic headquarters in Sumner County shall remain right where it is as a symbol, so says the vice chairman of the Sumner County Democratic Party, Maria Brewer.
The bumper sticker was discovered by campaign workers on Monday and reads, "The bro and his ho gotta go."
Gallatin police are investigating although they have no suspects. Officers have also stepped up patrols in the area.
"I saw it and I thought it was offensive," Brewer told Nashville's News 2 Investigates. "It is a racial slur about the president and his wife, especially disturbing. I don't think politicians should have to worry about their families being attacked, especially for the color of their skin."
She added, "It's a slur against women as well as African Americans."

Empty-handed supporters pled for entrance, with one woman asking, “What if we dropped off our donations up front?”

Totally OT, but I just learned my niece has landed an internship at a place in midtown Manhattan (42nd St. near the Library & Bryant Park), starting in January. We know nothing of the city. Can anyone help with suggestions as to where she should look for housing? Ideally it would be affordable, convenient and in a safe neighborhood, but I'm guessing we may not be able to get all three of these. Ideas?
Assuming hurricane repair is quick enough -- Hoboken is right across the river, with PATH train convenience (the commute to midtown is shorter and easier than from the Bronx). Cheaper than Manhattan, riverside has city view...
Or Staten Island, she can ride the ferry every morning and pretend she's Melanie Griffith in "Working Girl".

Lucasfilm, Disney News: Could 'Star Wars' Be Coming To TV?
As your brain tries to absorb the news of Disney's purchase of Lucasfilm, wrap your brain around this: George Lucas has been amassing scripts for a live-action TV project for several years.
It's far too early to say when a "Star Wars" TV show could be on our screens -- possibly on Disney-owned ABC -- but a drama set in that universe wouldn't have to start from scratch. Lucasfilm has dozens of scripts for the project already in the hopper.
"They are working with writers on scripts," a Lucasfilm representative told me for a 2010 story on "Star Wars" on TV. "They won't set a production date [for the show] until the scripts are done."
As I wrote then, "This isn't a project that George Lucas has gone out of his way to promote -- word has leaked out in dribs and drabs at various conventions and in a few interviews … But work on the unnamed show's scripts appears to be at an advanced stage -- which isn't surprising, considering the writing of the live-action show began" in 2008.
Two years ago, the Lucasfilm rep confirmed that casting had not yet begun (every so often, rumors of the project hit the Internet and get fans stirred into a frenzy). But here are a few things we do know about it:

Red Cross... founded by Clara Barton
Clara Barton (1821–1912) had a career as a teacher and federal bureaucrat when the American Civil War broke out. Barton liked teaching when she was younger. All of her older siblings became teachers. Her youngest sibling was 12 years of age, when Barton was born. Her brother David was always like a teacher to her. She taught her first class, at age 17. She also expanded her concept of soldier aid, traveling to Camp Parole, Maryland, to organize a program for locating men listed as missing in action. Through interviews with Federals returning from Southern prisons, she was often able to determine the status of some of the missing and notify families.[
After performing humanitarian work during and after the conflict, on advice of her doctors, in 1869, she went to Europe for a restful vacation. There, she saw and became involved in the work of the International Red Cross during the Franco-Prussian War, and determined to bring the organization home with her to America...

Romney/Ryan don't want to touch SocialSec for current benefit receivers -- that is, the people that are actually likely to vote based on SocialSec as an issue.
They just want to fuck the rest of us in the ass without so much as a reacharound. And they are counting (as they are tactically right to do, going by the data) on current benefit receivers to be their complicit accomplices in fucking the rest of us in the ass for their own benefit.
